Early Show: Fool’s Gold “Nadine”
Late Show: Jason Collett “Love Is A Dirty Word”
What’s on your mind tonight?
Nadine!
Yeah, cool!
Wild. Nadine is monophonic… she never changes chords
On to the next tune!
Evening.
Yow on “Love Is a Dirty Word”…
I have so much to say, much to LLN’s chagrin.
speak!
Some people think love is always a verb.
I know that apartment hallway. For realz.
1/2 of the Dixie Chicks (Courtyard Dogs) just released a new song recently, and sang it at South x Southwest. It’s called “Ain’t No Son”
~~~ModNote: link fixed.~~~
Moyers is outstanding again. Bryan Stevenson and Michelle Alexander spouting the truth about racism and the new Jim Crow.
OFG, how’s your shoulder?
Thanks Lurk, or whoever is on duty.
Delete the duplicate comment if you like.
waiting for the vidcast now.
he will be gone soon, and then what…
Amy will be all alone. At least as long as Link TV can pay it’s bills. I urge everyone to contribute to the last bastion of democracy. There is no better cause, IMO.
That’s true. Positives and negatives:
Alone means a lot more light on her worthy work.
And alone also makes her quite the target.
Honey, is that you?
Ces’t moi!
Jeez, I loved this Aretha piece that Suzanne dropped the other night!
Ohhh Nadine, is that you?
Newton, tip o the hat:
But when was the last time a President, following a ‘major win for the people’, had to go stump for it AFTER the fact?
early am, I’m out.
Hi ES, Pups near and far!
Loved the Nadine tune ES! Thanks!
*G*
I kid you not, wait till you meet Myra. My Myra. She is so cool… We gotz some songs cooking
hi/bye sunny
h/t back
tease!
Yep, it tore me up as it was REAL close to when I saw ‘Retha for the only time, and King Curtis N The Kingpins were the backup band . . . . Palo Alto, Stanford Memorial Auditorium, some time post June 1 of ’71, and pre August when Curtis died . . . great cut, great clip, great catch.
No, she’s great!
I have spent considerable effort looking for that complete show on video. nada so far.
Kick down a sample, then!
Ohhh Nadine, is that you?
(shoulda been my reply earlier, keeping in the lyrics)
Have NO idea why I replied to muhself . . . sigh.
“You done started back doin the same old things you used to do!”
I think the reich is hoping most of America continues to ignore her. That could backfire bigtime in this incendiary climate, though. If there ever will be liberal boots on the ground, she’ll be at the forefront of it. She doesn’t scare, but I wish I was as sure about the majority on the left.
The fact is people are going to have to stand up for their rights all over again, just as they did 235 years ago. I don’t think the people have the stomach for it, but pray I’m wrong. Personally, I don’t want to live if it’s in the kind of world we’re sprinting toward.
Which show? The one I was at?
I don’t ever recall any vid there, that I saw, sure it was almost 40 years ago, but . . . .
If there was vid of it . . . I’d be surprised.
Well, it’ll be this, but with a bona fide singer!
[I love her!]
This one.
You deserve a crooner.
Nice.
I don’t think it’s a matter of stomach. Not by any means.
It’s a matter of reality, destitution, and fatalism and understanding that it’s fight for change or die with what ya have.
So, aside from ascribing to violent response, I think it’s a matter of natural course where the many will ultimately decide the few can’t rule their lives.
History has proven that.
WHEN that will happen? No clue, but sadly, the longer I love, the more I believe this total collapse might come in my lifetime.
Ten years ago, I NEVER imagined it would come in my lifetime.
Never.
Now? The collapse seems inevitable in my lifetime, regardless of how it comes.
Frankly, the few can’t subject the many to less, for too long.
And though it took longer a century ago for reality to bring forth, we live in a time when it’s all speeded up and can happen overnight.
This shit’s unstable, and can’t work for long.
Yeah, got that one. Not the one I was at, unless the venue WAS the one I was at!
Have no way of knowing if that was it . . . don’t think so. Don’t recall the backdrop, or the staging.
N look at that EV-71 mic she was wailin into . . . a nice vocal mic in them days, but the EV RE-20′s were the BOMB in those days. I think. Hmm, I wonder if the EV RE-20 was invented in ’71?
I used EV mics, and the RE-20′s, a LOT in my time with recording in the later 70′s and early 80′s in broadcasting.
Best, mic, evah, for most purposes (don’t recall them used for drums, but I’m not a recording eng, either).
Good evening poodlers, just walked in the door.
Now Kelly, if you know the hall, we want details! (I think /s)
evening, ES … firegods
Freaking Soros… If he’s going to take the hit for being the “Financier and ideological force of TehLeft™, he (we) might as well get some bang for the buck.
Newtonusr. This CD is that show... and it’s got to be one of the best all time recordings known to man and woman.
It’s my number one Sunday album…has been since the first day I ever listened to it.
That reality has been here for nearly 10 years now. The robber barons have already looted their countrymen out of their life savings, jobs, houses and homes. There was barely a whimper that resonated. When (if) there is an uprising, Americans will not be met with National Guardsmen or law officials, they’ll be confronting battalions of Blackwater operatives who love blood.
That’s a real difference. That and deafening noise machines meant to paralyze crowds. I don’t think there’s anything like 10 years to right the wrongs. If a Thug is elected in 2012, we’ll have martial law during that term. Or the people can get serious about organizing for the sake of democracy.
I found two things on the internet today. One, was that Song, “Ain’t No Son.”
And I found the other bastard who hurt me.
One is in Los Gatos CA, one is in Santa Fe NM.
I argue with myself about publishing further. The youngest is 70, the oldest is 82.
They’re both beyond the reach of children. I am furious.
you’re a damned crafty search engine. i’m forwarding all my req’s to you from now on!
thanks
LOL no search needed… that CD is in my DNA.
Thanks for that ES! I saw her that summer just a BIT down the road!! *G*
And when you come across the video, drop me a note
I’m sure he is already. The problem is the other side out-Soros’ us 1000-1. I’m sure we out-number our foes as donors by a similar margin, but their bank accounts and contributions dwarf ours. So, while we send as much as we can afford to hurricane refugees, they’re investing in Halliburton and Exxon to further destroy democracy nationally and internationally.
Howdy From The Choir!
And freedom?
Find the cost of freedom . . . CSNY.
*G*
How’d they hurt you? Being twice yer age?
Shit, that didn’t come out right . . . who and how were they, and why?
Never mind my first thoughts about anyone who hurts my friends, and my instincts to react . . Grrrr.
Hey peeps!
When Ray Charles steps in… man that never grows old. WOuld still be among the best all timers even if he wasn’t a part of it.
Hi Mary, I knew all was right with the world when you and Hugh topped the diary list today.
Hey Mary!
Oh, thanks. That last comment was a little surly but I think I took care of it ok.
Nice work, Mary!
But didn’t you know that nurses were just scut-workers?
I thought you looked familiar. I hope there’s a lot of youze guys on our side.
Sigh, history, sointly.
I saw so much of the good stuff back then, SF Bay wise, hippie to jazz to east bay grease funk, and folk and grass.
Sadly, it’s not like that on our radios, tv’s, or even in our stores to buy cd’s.
All too limited, watered down, and not played on the airwaves.
N then, there’s the intertoobz, the streams, and download opportunities for live shows . . .
But it’s not the same as the 60′s, for sure. Sigh.
I’m old, I sound grumpy. I SWORE I wouldn’t do that . . ;-)
Hi Mary-long time.
I just cannot stand it!!!!!!!!! Nurses work so hard. Everyone in hospitals do.
Yes, but they’re only as powerful as we imagine they are. There are 325M of us, and less than a hundredth that many of them.
A lot of people will die. But we’re all going to die someday anyway.
Might as well stand up and give one’s life for a good cause.
I will add that cause is not to overthrow or replace the US government. That’s like fighting over a rotting corpse. The path to renewal is for us to create something new.
.
(P.S. Since it’s the weekend for it, try reading the Declaration of Independence as an Easter story of death and resurrection. It is.)
Hi emerson. I have been trying to get to bed earlier. Less time to eat.
Yep. And for the types you were dealing with, they are to be treated as glorified candy-stripers.
Edit: taking absolutely nothing away from candy-stripers…
You know my daughter who got her masters in nursing in September still cannot find work. She is so frustrated. She does live in the bay area which is the hardest place to find work as a new grad.
I know, I know and agree. Your gen got to say and record bring forth into the light and see so much first. It’s damn hard to beat a lot of the original stuff.
Dammit, THAT’S what I’m doing wrong!
You have company.
Harder to eat if you are asleep. I have actually lost 15 lbs by sleeping more, eating a little less and walking 3 miles everyday. Have 15 more to go. I figure it will take me another three or four months.
Or let Patti SMith read it.
That’s how I see it, too. If there is no quality of life left collectively, there really is no point to being a bystander.
Well, I am feeling hungry so I guess I will go to bed. Night!
Hah! The term “projectile snoring” comes to mind.
15 lbs gone is great, Mary. Hope the next 15 go painlessly. Didn’t really think you needed to lose that much, though.
Technicolor snooze.
Not only that, but the think tanks that convince people that their way is the way to go.
I remember when George Lakoff first brought that up in some talk I heard from him. While they spend money on the institutions and infrastructure to keep them going, we are spending our money on Hati. We brag about how little money go to the infrastructure of some of our charities, they use their charities to fund each other. It’s all log rolling.
Speaking of lack of money on the left for people vs. the money spent on the right for stuff…
I had this amazing dream the other night. I was speaking to a group of people, almost all women. About 400 in a hall. I was telling them something to motivate them that was funny and true. (About how unmotivated I feel these days.) I led them in a song, I didn’t know all the lyrics, but I went around to groups of women and encouraged them in ways that made the song sound better.
Afterwards they applauded. As they filled out the evaluations forms I went over to the people from the National Speakers Association who had also been giving speeches to this group. It was clear that I did a great job and had embarrassed all of the professional speakers. They clearly had greater “platform skills” and were more dedicated to being professional speakers. There was a “who do you think you are” vibe from them. As we waited for the results of my evaluation to come in I heard them talking about the gigs that they would have bettween 1-24 gigs speaking across the country. I felt like I couldn’t keep it up with that kind of pace.
The people with the forms came back and the reviews were glowing but the one I remembered was, “We want to hire your for three speeches this year.”
At that point I knew that even though the others were more professional and did all the right things, the women really liked me enough to pay to hear from me. And that the NSA group weren’t going to let me in but were going to mock me as an interloper.
I woke up and felt good all day.
Locomotive breath?
Well trip to the big city tomorrow for me. (pop 38k)
Good night fighting firedogs
Great dream, Spocko!
I agree about the think tanks and constantly wonder why the left seemingly doesn’t try to garner at least some of the slogan market. We’re much more creative and much smarter- how can we concede the verbal battle? For instance, why do we call thugs the “Party of No” when a simpler “No Party” delivers a stronger, more direct message and does so on many more levels.
Words matter.
Nite ES. Thanks.
nite eureka
i’m out too
Hey, doing an “It’s All About Me” drive-by without reading the comments.
What’s On My Mind: We’re in a community driven [a.k.a. the Grapevine] lockdown because we have a fucking nutter with a gun running amuck. He’ a self-described “Minister” , sociopath in common usage.
He threw 5 gallons of gasoline on 2 men who where attempting to collect money for services rendered. Men who are stand-up guys in our community. He threw the gas and fired a gun which missed the gas soaked men but blew out their truck window. He went on the run and the community “grape-vine” has been humming with information.
2 hours ago he torched the house and work truck of the man who was trying to collect. My son is the victim’s son’s friend. As the family was cloistered in a community building for safety this fucking nutter torched their property. The son had knowledge it was happening, alerted my son, and he and 2 other men worked to keep the fire from being a major neighborhood disaster when the propane tanks on the work trucks in the burning garage caught fire. He has video of them rolling the trucks out of the garage.
While 3 citizens were fighting the fire?…..we had the fucking Swat team and their transport awesome vehicles parked 2 blocks down. First time we rated fucking Swat!!! While my son and 2 other local men brought the fire ubder control. Because Charlie was out there. They all knew that.
Fuck!!!! We’re being defended not by Pussies. We should be so lucky.
We’re being defended by Limp Dicks.
Charlis is still out there as I write. He’s a fuck.
Words DO matter. So do narratives. Did you know that Lakoffs rockridge institute had to close down?
The dream is about the disconnect I feel between blogging and acting in the “real” world.
And how I have blog successes and real world successes and I can work them together. right now I feel like a kid fresh out of college whose brilliant idea is dismissed. Kos has said we are “crashing the gates”. There are a lot of very serious people who find it unseemly to kick the right wings butt right now. They still think that if you just don’t listen to them they will lose power. Or they figure they are just entertainment.
I would be happy to start an anti-think tank weapon to use on the worst of these groups. But nobody wants to take them head on.
When I read some story
Wow. I hope your son and his friend stay safe.
LOVE Your Comment.
Love it.
End of story.
I feel we let our following gen’s down.
That’s my guilt.
Thank you for understanding, ES.
Yer a hoss.
I think I’m finding a tribe to follow . . . *bows*
Thank you, very much.
And now, to the sandman, once again.
My son responded to the “Grapevine” fire alarm a full 6 minutes before the official alarm went off. The volunteer fire dept. never fully responded, never left the Fire House, because a nutter with a gun and an agenda was loose.
My son and a man I’m proud to call a friend responded and kept a horrific event from happening. it’s not the shooter,/arsonist, it’s the fucking propane tanks on the trucks in the burning garage.
The nutter was probably waiting for owners to show up. My son and friend knew that. They still rolled those trucks out before a bomb went off.
While our “special units” were fucking wankers in big vehicles.
wow, had no idea rockridge was closed. Sure doesn’t feel like crashing the gates to me. Feels more like the late 70′s when we laughed at Limbaugh and Murdoch and said, “Who would ever listen to these assholes?” Now they own the air waves.
nite Larue.
Geez, where the hell is this?
I guess the crazy lesson I learned tonight, calling people we know saying ,” He’s headed for North Beach..now he’s headed for the Mountain. No, wait, he just torched C***8*88′s place, that’s 1 mile from you….”..
I guess we might be feeling a teeny, tiny bit of the angst our Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan brethren must feel.
So teeny as to be Not A Problem. No one we love is dead yet.
So, it’s not a real hunt, no matter how many supercool Anti-Personnel Vehicles vehicles they park 2 blocks away from the fire set by the guy they do/don’t want to get. Apparently, SWAT doesn’t DO fires with large propane tanks. Too rural? That’s for civilians to tackle.
Yow!!! On that note,uh, fuck.shit. They never asked for my son’s name. ….we can assume they knew from his friend’s desperate emails about his house on fire? Or not?
I should probably dial this back.
I am appalled.
It’s worth a post but I’m babbling in shock. And we need to make more calls to track this fucker.
Can you get any kind of media there? Might get faster results.
I’m so old I think emails are Text Messages. Sorry. The young world revolves around text messages. Way faster.
We just had all the media here with the Tesoro Refinery explosion.
What we have here in our small sub-community is a man, recently arrived, who proved himself an absolute danger and was evicted. Only to turn around and marry the most unstable woman in the community who’s parents are major landowners because of the Homestead Acts.
He’s a fundamentalist Christian Bullshitter. With a gun. And an agenda.
And his victims are coming to our house tonight for refuge.
FUCK. FUCK. What’s with this fucking hero shit I’m so into.????????????
I suppose that since I mentioned Easter I ought to follow up on that idea a little, so those who can see what’s coming can also see a little better why it’s coming, and why it’s a good thing.
In the Judeo-Christian-Capitalist tradition, at mid-life Christ dies to his humanity to live into his spirituality.
(Short aside: Capitalism is the religion that follows Christianity, the one that finally elevates man to the same level as God. That’s why when one replaces “Free Market” with “God,” “Fed” with “Church Leaders” and so on, the op-eds in the WSJ, NYT and WaPo sound the equal of any fundamentalist religious screed, and also why the US is returning to the Middle East – it’s the completion of a religious journey that began millennia ago in Mesopotamia. War is how countries have sex, so what’s really happening is the ouroboros discovering and devouring its tail – enlightenment, awakening, completion.)
And since this is the energetic stream in which we fish here in the West swim, whether or not we happen to know it or consciously follow it, we have no mythic map for how to proceed beyond mid-life. That’s why we as individuals have “mid-life crises,” where we look forward into the abyss of aging and run screaming back to try to hold on to the youth that’s passed. And since consciousness is self-similar, and behaves the same way whether it’s the size of a person or a country, that’s why the United States is behaving the way it is – it’s suffering a mid-life crisis.
And the essence of a mid-life crisis is the confrontation with one’s own mortality.
That’s why the US creates so much death in the world, because it’s life’s way of getting us to stop running from it and face it. Until we face death consciously it’s all we can create unconsciously. And it’s also why we’re talking as a nation about health care, the core argument in which is death panels and dying. We’re having to face that the nation we were when we were younger, full of energy and blind idealism and possibility, is over. We’re a middle-aged country now.
And that returns us to our national myths. Right now we have our national myth of the USA as Moses/Christ/Superman, the ideal perfect hero sent by God to save the world. The necessary end of this myth is why we’re now everywhere seeing Icarus fall back to Earth, in the form of Tiger Woods, or Obama’s seductions, or the leaders of the world’s religions (starting with the Fed, don’t forget) losing their image of infallibility – all returning to Earth, to imperfect, mortal humanity.
But that myth of Moses/Christ/Superman only takes us to mid-life. There is no global story that every knows and tells each other that explains how to live the second half of a life, how to discover that the second half of life can be even better than the first. All we have right now is the story that says when we get to the middle everything we know dies.
And that’s why there’s so much global upset. Yes, everything that came before is dying if not already long dead. It has to die to make room for what’s coming. But we as yet have no vision of the future other than blackness, the void, the unknown.
So the essence of this moment in time, what some of us are doing consciously individually, and what we’re all doing unconsciously collectively, is writing that new story, the one that shows humanity how to let die one’s imagination that one was ever perfect or invincible or God – but in return be delivered to one’s connection to spirituality and life and God to live out and celebrate while still in human form.
Christ dies to his humanity to live into his infinite potential. And what we’re doing, that collectively mankind has never done, is make the next leap – to consciously die to our infinite potential to live into the beauty of our complete humanity.
Call 911 and get your recording on the record, openhope. and tell them you are in immediate danger.
I thought war is how tired, old, world leaders in no personal danger get off. Then again, maybe that is what you’re saying?
But how can you be sure this is the collective mid-life death as opposed to the collective end-of-life death?
I am not in danger at this moment. We need to get the victimized family fed and housed for the night.
Every fucking response team was AWOL while my son and Mike fought the blaze. They fucking knew what was happening, they didn’t want to do a sniper. Period. My son and Mike trusted the Nutter not to shoot them while they fought the blaze.
I am still shaking at the decision. But proud.
Fucking Swat was parked 2 blocks away[ first time in our small waterfront National Security Area], never had the Big Boys, who couldn’t actually fit on our skinny little roads show and wouldn’t put out a fire. Our local volunteer fire dept. wouldn’t do it because there was a shooter loose.
So, my son and Mike did it. WTF!!!
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins, Blow and Herbert today. In “Of Jets, Voyeurs and Back Wax” Ms. Collins makes an attempt to discuss politicians who get in trouble for extravagant spending, without mentioning the R.N.C.’s expense-account party at that bondage club. She’s partially successful. Mr. Blow, in “An Article of Faith,” says for many on the right, President Obama isn’t simply the enemy of small government and national solvency. He’s the enemy of liberty itself. Mr. Herbert says “We Still Don’t Hear Him,” and that forty-three years after Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic speech decrying the Vietnam War, his message has yet to be heard.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got French toast made with challah. Time to feed kittehs and start on what I’ve got to do today so I can get to bed early. Choir has to be ready for Easter Vigil at 5:15, otherwise called “zero dark thirty.” Have a great day.
Well, since Marion came and left, I guess I’m here alone. Good Morning to anyone that stops by.
It’s going to be a beauty here in CNY….in the 80s with lots of sunshine.
Good morning solai. Wonderful day yesterday in mid-Hudson & looking forward to more of the same today. Daffodils & forsythia in full bloom. I have a ‘pet’ mockingbird, who, if he doesn’t find a mate soon, will lose his voice. He serenaded me almost all day yesterday as I sat outside & read.
That’s how I spent the afternoon, as well, and have a bit of a tan. Nice after a long winter.
Good for you. I had more ambitious plans, like outdoor spring cleanup or bicycle ride, but I started reading in the morning and that was it for the day. I have a view of the Schawangunk cliffs, and in the morning they are in full sunlight. Usually it’s too chilly to read then & look at them, so I end up looking at them in the late afternoon when they are in full shade. Yesterday was the first day this year when it was warm enough to read & look in the morning.
Nice view. What did you read? I picked up a copy of Wambaugh’s ‘Echoes in the Darkness’ last week at a library book sale and tore through it.
Saving for vacation, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest.
emerson, I responded to your questions in tomorrow night’s LLN FDL (Tom Slick in The Badyear Blimp Race).
