Astroturf Express Calls “Tea Party” Candidate a Fraud

By: David Dayen Monday March 29, 2010 7:15 pm

Now, it’s extremely rich to see the Tea Party Express accuse someone else of being a fraud. The term could not be applied more perfectly to anyone but them. In reality, the Tea Party Express is composed of California-based Republican political consultants, cashing in on the name “Tea Party” for personal gain. In fact, over two-thirds of their PAC money, over $850,000, went directly to their political consulting firm.

Yoo’s Supervisors Didn’t Know About the July 13, 2002 Fax

By: emptywheel Monday March 29, 2010 6:30 pm

When Jonathan Fredman wrote the Abu Zubaydah torture team in Thailand to tell them they had gotten the green light to torture, he cited not the Bybee One memo which had just been signed, but a July 13, 2002 Yoo fax, for his discussion of intent.

FDL Movie Night: Yoga, Inc.

By: Lisa Derrick Monday March 29, 2010 5:00 pm

I’ve been doing yoga on and off since high school. PE sucked — all those nasty outdoor team sports — so when yoga, modern dance and self defense were offered as indoor alternatives, I jumped, or at least jette-ed, at the opportunity to avoid the evil yellow hurty thing in the sky and its companion balls: soft, base and basket. Ugh.

Dems More Trusted on Energy Than Any Other Issue, Continue Pursuing Polluter-Friendly GOP Ideas

By: Josh Nelson Monday March 29, 2010 4:20 pm

By: David Dayen Monday March 29, 2010 3:01 pm

The name on the reimbursement slip for around $2,000 in “meals” at a bondage-themed nightclub in West Hollywood is Erik Brown. Turns out the guy has a profile as a California political consultant.

Dusty Foggo’s Girlfriend, John Rizzo, and the Salt Pit of Death

By: emptywheel Monday March 29, 2010 2:15 pm

The AP story on the Salt Pit death makes it clear that–at a time when Dusty Foggo was Executive Director of CIA–he was involved in an internal review of the death. He also received incredible levels of protection during his last two years at CIA, protection that probably goes beyond what you’d expect of his senior position. With each new detail of his involvement in the torture program, it seems more and more likely that that protection extended at least in part from the role he played in covering up torture.

Hutaree: Ceci N’est Pas un Terrorist

By: David Dayen Monday March 29, 2010 12:45 pm

The multi-state arrest of members of the Hutaree and other Patriot militia groups, carried out by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, hasn’t yet resulted in the word “terrorist” being used in any of the stories about the raids.
