Oh heavens, it’s the end of the Senate as we know it, they say.

Thank you, thank you.

Just now, at a Progressive Media summit (which I’m monitoring via the Twitter), Harry Reid acknowledged that changes would have to be made to the Senate filibuster rules in the next session — that’s quite a reversal.

When we started the public option campaign, when we asked people to donate money, we made a pact with our community to see it through to the end. If we have to whip health care, if we have to run a campaign to enforce the pledge made by members of Congress to vote against a bill without a public option, we will.

But utimately, I think the current bill will collapse under the weight of its own inadequacies no matter what we do. And until I see signs that it has any realistic chance of passing in its present form, we’ll continue to devote our energies in places where we feel we can make a difference.

Yesterday in Israel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared the stage with extremist Christian Zionist Pastor John Hagee at a rally for “Christians United for Israel.”

If he really wants a sensible health care reform bill that Republicans will vote for, Sen. Lindsey Graham needs to put up a bill that has several Republican votes or shut up.

If “The Left” wants to really go after someone who’s done more than anybody to stop health care reform from passage, they’d start working for his opponent in the primary, Connie Saltonstall.

Since Mark Benjamin has decided to claim–some 300-plus days after I did the first of many posts focusing on the details of waterboarding (to say nothing of posts drational did looking at these descriptions medically)–that, “the agency’s “enhanced interrogation program” haven’t been mined for waterboarding details until now,” I thought I’d make another point about the significance of those details.

It seems that President Obama’s former senior health-care adviser, David Cutler, is following in the proud tradition of Jonathan Gruber by conveniently ignoring potentially huge cost-saving ideas to make Obama’s health care proposal sound better than it really is.

At this point, well over half the incumbent Democrats in Congress know their circumstances for a primary with precision. And most of them will by default be the Democratic nominee in their respective districts. That doesn’t mean there’s no electoral leverage over them whatsoever, but idle threats about primaries just look silly.
