We are livin in San Mateo, CA, and ‘Retha is playin at Stanford Memorial Auditorium.

A jog down the freeway to Palo Alto, we’re there.

Two of the ONLY white people of some oh, 6K or so or more.

We get inside, show starts, King Curtis And The Kingpins are the back up band! Just like in that vid, from ’71.

Curtis died in August of that year, so I got to see him ONCE, and only once.

We’re standing up, a song or two in, crowd’s bumpin and groovin early on, I’m smellin the FINE smell of that smell in the air.

Reach into my boot and pull out my bag of prewrapped joys, light one up, and all of a sudden I’m everyone’s best pal!!!

Passin it around, all of a sudden someone else has one, passes THAT around, and we’re all dancin, groovin, smilin, and it’s a phreakin love fest with Queen Of Soul and King Curtis taking us on a ride that seems like it’s never gonna end!!!

Aretha looked JUST like that in the video . . . grand, beautiful, young and lovely. Sang her heart out, the band played their hearts out. One of the greatest shows I’ve ever seen. I’m talking soul, baby!!!!

Dang I miss that old soul sound, and yes, Suz, as you are showing us, there were LOTS of different elements of it, from Arthur Conley, Supremes, Temps, Miracles, 4 Tops, and more!!!

Evening all. I just saw David Letterman interview a woman from the Tea Party. He did a pretty even-handed routine with her. She loves her some Jim DeMint.

He asked her about Iraq and the cost of it. She gave the “fight them over there” “than here” answer, did not take on the money issue that he asked her, and he was on good behavior and did not push it. She brought up the evil Saddam, and said getting rid of him was a good investment, more or less.

I interviewed some of them last summer at an event where Harry Reid appeared with my senators, and I asked them what kind of health insurance they have. Most of them love their Medicare and when I asked why they did not want me to have it, they basically said, “Share? There is not enough to go around, so if you have it, there would not be enough for me.”

She was big on bootstraps not welfare. Just more of that American dream and the American pie to go around with that.

As for family, not so many of us can really manage the hospice route. It will fall to the few who have the time to be there. If no one has the time or can make it, hospice is not really possible.

The benefit of course is that the process of dying can have its rewards for those who can manage to be there.

There are a variety of sacrifices. Most of my family is groovy, just too far away to help much.

1) Ask real questions, not “gotcha” questions. They will most likely mess up anyway and a gotcha question will telegraph your intentions. Draw them out. Let them go into their most ill informed, racist, world view.

2) Stay calm. Mike Stark is a genius at his. Being calm is hard but it confuses them because they WANT to fight with some liberals.

3) Ask follow up questions. You are genuinely be puzzled by what they are saying.

4) Here is an excellent question, try and ask it as sincerely as possible.
“How do you know that?” This will get to their sources.

5) How do you define … questions are great too.

These are dark times, hard to keep a good perspective amidst the crazy. You do more than your share to keep after the evil, so you have to really watch out for yourself and take care not to beat yourself down or back, whatever.

I get into this “what’s the point if you aren’t making money” mood.
It’s something that is very strong in me. Grew up in conserative family where that was important. Chasing money almost killed me. Destroyed my brothers marriage, but I feel like I must go back to it. When the MOTUs hurt the employed they also hurt the contractors and freelancers. Laid off people swell the ranks and they are more plugged in and hungry.

I always wish I could have gotten some of those millions in revenue I cost the radio station. Then maybe my family would be more okay with what I did and do.

You do great work, Spocko. I just have to take a step back sometimes for my own sanity. I think we all do.

For me I am am sick of the excuses..the devil made me do it shit. A lot of people are hurting really badly because of his decisions to continue the BUSHCO policies. Offshore drilling big oil over alternative energy and jobs. Barack sucks. Torture, war, less middle class, more spying, no accountability so the powerful walk and the poor do time. People are losing their homes and their jobs. What’s to like about Obama. He does not stand for any values that I hold.
San Diego attorney has a energy system with a small foot print. And I have to tell you i have forgotten more about the environment than you will ever try to learn. Don’t talk down to me about SR. I really resent your comments on what a win the healthcare was. Maybe for you and the insurance companies most people will pay more now. You are in denial about that too. I hear ya. So much is about corporate power. On of my biggest ah ha’s was to turn corporations on the right wingers.
The corporations are the most powerful force right now. You can use them to fight the right wing when your goals line up with theirs.
That is what I’m going to do with starbucks vs gun people. I’m going to turn the insurance carriers against starbucks for hosting gun nuts.

I’m actually very agressive and a few groups I’ve approached said they didn’t want to upset their donors. And my agressive attacks on the right wing would make them a target.
