Also, while I disagree with the right on practically everything, there are indeed whackos on both sides. It is insane to proclaim that is not the case. In an economic climate where there is over 10% unemployment, people have lost hope. It is not surprising that some small minority of them have flocked to these sort of cult like groups.

In the early 1990s, I studied terrorism and terrorist groups in the US, they are not all right wing. A lot of them are, but not all of them.

You want to put people at ease, fix the economy. They’ll get over a black man being in the white house and tune out of right wing radio. Give them a roof over their head, food in their stomach and some sense of security in their world and they’ll be just as zombie like as most of the left is today.

Rather, as indicated, the funding for left-wing whackos has dried up. Since other than a bit of rhetoric the actual goals of extremists are pretty much consistent, they’ve probably just migrated to where the action is. The FBI has spent a lot of time looking for lefties that want to turn over the table for their own gain while hoping that righties are just blowing off steam. Most likely because there are lot more unhappy ex-military types in the right wing groups and even in the 60s they had quite a bit more firepower.

As others pointed out before these charges are a bit curious in that they do not include references about the intent to commit treason via violent means. This is not the first time that the government has not brought these kinds of charges under similar circumstances. In the not so-distant past a guy in Idaho was arrested for speaking about a “burning bush” in a bar. Now we have people parading around with tee-shirts with words that are much more provocative.
