Featuring the music of Watermelon Slim and Timbre Timbre.
What’s on your mind tonight?
Update: R.I.P. Marva Wright.
Aloha, ES…!
Evening CT
I like that bluesy Watermelon Slim…! ;-)
I love watermelon, ES!
Hello, ES. Guy sounds kinda stoned or something. Not knocking it. Sweet gig.
He was in ES last weekend… comes through from time to time. I missed last weeks show.
Those outdoor by the water shows are tough to record. But, hey, it’s 4:20 twice a day everywhere…)
Check out the second vid. Timber Timbre. Coolio.
How are you ES? Still rained out?
very.
Eureka!
Snows gone.. had a beautiful first couple days of the week, so I couldn’t allow myself to just think about procrastinating my spring cleaning.. I had to do it… and now I am plumb tuckered out.
Fortunately it’s raining tonight and tomorrow.
Who’d have guessed? Lindsey Graham is a hero.
RIP Marva Wright – apologies if I’m revisiting an occasion already noted.
The clean feels good. I still have some to do, though I got the garden planted.
NPR posted two Timbre Timbre vids today. The other one “Under your Spell” is really good too.
Coolio indeed. Interesting mix of styles. Why little girls should take violin lessons. Or guys, whatever. But, what a nice addition to the other instruments.
Spell!
Hi Mr Why, I didn’t know…. R.I.P.
Going to put that up top.
Saw that. I wouldn’t go that far though. There were a couple times I like’d what he said or did. But, that was a while ago. A long while.
RIP Marva. New to me.
Joking that Graham is a hero. He’s a sorry excuse for a senator. Forgot the /s.
You knew that!
You So. Californians and your no frost life…) I have just started a few things indoors, but we don’t dare assume the last frost until April 15 or later.
We’re So Spoiled. Unless there are fires. Then, we’re toast.
I like’em, ES, thanks for the music!
Music is heaven.
Hey Margot…. we need a little (or more) heaven every day..)
One more thing. What’s frost, ES?
Howdy ES, I liked the Slim, he’s playing a round necked guitar style electric slide, left handed, backwards/upside down strung. I’d never heard of him!!! Wonder where that performance is from, the rock is a bit like Morro Bay’s Big Rock in CA/San Luis Obispo . . . . . ???
Here’s His Wiki, VERY Complex Dude!
Howdy Pups!
Gah! *s*
Seriously I love cold temps…. little gardens don’t.
Yeah, we might tend to take the warmer climes for granted at times, but come spring time and time to get stuff GROWING, we appreciate it!
About 50 basil seeds starting to sprout in starter box.
HOney has about 10 or more of parsley, sage, dill, oregano, thyme started in a box or two.
Three maters in the lil 2 x 12 ground, with yellow squash, an orange bell and a chili serrano.
More basil seeds in the ground, too (see if they come up)
Three other mater’s in 5 gal tubs on patios.
Two other tubs with yellow pear mater’s from seeds to be done.
And honey’s flowers, seemingly everywhere and taking up too much room for the edibles!!!
Spring’s here!!
Don’t know where that is… the youtube page didn’t say.
I don’t do freezing. Call me a baby.
Just what I’m used to.
Thanks for the tunes. I’m pooped. Emotion always wears me down.
Hugs to all.
Very interesting dude and history . . .
Pesto-rama. And little yellow pear maters. Mmmmm MMMM
Oh crap! I lost my password (WHY???) and spent the last hour trying to get a new one. My problem is that my email for FDL is work, and I have to link into it to get a new one.
Night Demi
Hi CE, what a bummer.
Hugs Demi, sleep well.
I didn’t realize you guys were still looking at frost. It’s been warm here, sleeveless like. Gonna have to start watering again, which is an expensive proposition these days…
Wow, we should send him thank you notes with patriotic themes.
((Chris))
Yeah baby on the pesto!! EVERY spring and summer I try and grow more and more, so I’ll have pesto frozen for the winter. Never happens. I hit the stuff daily for salads, soups, seasoning . . I’ll make some pesto, gone too fast.
Can’t get enough of it, so, THIS summer, more than ever from seeds galore, and we’ll see what happens.
Had 35 plants all told last year, expect 50+ this time!! And may very well add 20 starters monthly as I pull plants for pesto and try to FREEZE IT NOW, instead of at end of season . . who knows. It’s fun trying!!! *G*
Wish I had more room for buckets or in the ground, I’d LOVE to have my own fennel!!! Love that plant!!!
Miss my mind.
Niters Demi, CE, perhaps chance will favor you WRT the password . . . gotta be a bit heart pounding . . .
Speaking of honey, Larue, I had to call out the cable company because I had a huge bee colony in my cable box. Apparently there’s a really high-pitched sound the electricity makes that tricks the drones into thinking there’s a queen in there…
They don’t call my neck of the woods Eureka Springs for nothing… goodness… we have so much water.
Hi openhope..)
Bummer.
Sweet smelling dreams to you, dear.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Hi ES we got to get you a green house so you can harden the sprouts off before setting them. Maybe scrounge some old green house opaque and some scrap wood. Clean is good for better organization. Now I am going to enjoy the show.
As if.
Years ago I had a swarm arrive in the backyard. It was a bag of bees just hanging on a branch — amazing! Our BEE MAN sucked them up and added them to his hives. Wonderful!
He did the smoke trick?
Evening, bb… it’s high on my wish list. I really want one good enough to produce tomatoes thru winter as well. I don’t want a summer greenhouse… no need.
It’s tough to freeze basil in the middle of the season. I started doing small batches of olive oil/butter infusion, adding chopped basil and freezing it in 2 inch by 6 inch “turds”. One turd here, one there, pretty soon you’re set for the dark days of winter when you need a basil break.
I’ve still got a few left and they taste fresh. I add the garlic, pine nuts, etc. in the cooking process.
No smoke,
He just sucked them up in his box with a tube-like vacuum cleaner!
Hmmm. Pesto. I keep some growing in my kitchen window. I’ve been told that when I want to take some I’m supposed to pitch off the top instead of taking off the bottom leaves. Is that correct?
It is — I have huge basil plants in the front yard. Pinch off the suckers and the top flowers.
No, LooHoo, I want to thank Lindsey. I’m thinking of postcards. OOOh, how about Michele Bombshell Mcgee in her awesomely cute Nazi photo. Probably a bad idea, Lindsey hates women.
Maybe the standard American Flag and praise him for holding strong for his country in the face of a 2 pm meeting shut down.
Heh, time for bed.
Yes, but harvest the big bottom leaves, too.
2009 basil crop, bottom and top leaves, was really poor. Sad.
Wow!! And look at all the work eCahn goes thru for HER bees!!!!
I never woulda known that was possible, yer another FDL revalation!!!
;-)
I gotta scoot Pups, be well and warm!!!
I have discovered I have a need for predatory nematodes to debug my beds. They eat the eggs under the soil so by by pests. Tender little sprouts gonna get a chance to grow into succulent produce. My farmers market tomato expert clued me in. So cool 5000 for $27.00 plus sip and handling.
That’s a neat trick OH!! Thanks for sharing . . guess I’d better what else I mighta missed before I ZZ out . .
Yep, it promotes new limb growth, and ya get more leaves over a longer period. And, if you top it all regularly, it won’t go to seed and flower and die near as fast!!!
Any secret on how to get them to be bigger? Or am I constrained by size of my pots? Never had any in the ground, but THIS summer, I’m trying . .
evening, ES & firegods
Ok, gotta run . . . zzzzzz to all, once again . . . happy planting and picking and eating to all!
And we used to be happy with a cold six pack. /s
Here’s something creepy you all should know. Remember how I posted that comment the other night about how the new metaphor the right is using is rape? As in Obama as rapist. And how the “America was raped” and the House was a rape room? Well the radio host who said those things had some spies here who reported into the host. (Waves to his spies).
The host, instead of acknowledging that it is repugnant to use the rape metaphor on this bill, decided to embrace and extend it. He relishes calling Pelosi the House Ma dam. (Get it!?)
I guess he didn’t want to be accused of flip flopping. And I’m pretty sure he will push the metaphor hard, because that is one of the things they do.
One thing that Atrios said a long time ago is there really isn’t anything that these people can say that will get their management to get rid of them. That is why I have always focused on the advertisers. They aren’t as willing to defend and accept their sick comments.
Evening PPDCUS
Hell in a bucket.
Yeoman’s work you do, amigo.
We had a few harsh basil years. Last year we had sun!!! Tons and tons of it. I found that the Thai Basil does better than Sweet Basil for endurance in our climate.
So, my Italian is becoming Fusion because it’s adapt or buy. :>
I protect plants with raised beds of redwood that is toxic to bugs, and use physical barriers like gorilla hair under them. I use diatomateous earth under and around as a barrier. it is amazing what our farmers do to get us a good product that is table ready.
After a hard days work. G)
I like thinking growing and soils. I am happy man today as a friend turned a big corner today. Ain’t it great.
I don’t know what you’re talking about exactly but I also got “mod edit” for using the term implying group forced sex as a national policy. I like the mods and admire the incredible job they do, so I respected the limits they set.
However, I’m a rape survivor and feel I’ve earned the right to equate. Rape is rape. Just wasn’t in the mind frame to bring it front and center.
Diatomaceous Earth only works on real small bugs, correct? Or will it kill spiders and such?
So happy you are back here openhope. Are you hope e?
Indeed it is, bb.
There is a reason I don’t use my name, his minions report back to him.
I do stuff that I don’t talk about here all the time. I wish I could, because I think you would appreciate it, but I have to keep it quiet until something happens. Right now I’m working on one advertiser that I know is upset at what he said on the show. They should be contacting the station in the next few days. What is sad is that often the advertisers just leave and don’t acknowledge why they left. Its good that they leave, but if they don’t give a reason I can’t count it as a win. It also gives management an opportunity to just throw up their hands and say, “Advertisers just go away.” Here is the actual quote from his boss.
When this next advertiser goes away I’m going to try to get them to say why they left like I did the last two I got to leave.
I’ve found that when the money stops flowing they tend to notice. And they are happy to lie to their boss why the money stopped flowing.
Lindsey and Miss Mcconnell…
I use it as a barrier not a killer. My spiders definitely hate it. It is also a good filter in swimming pools so is relatively cheap strategy to control pest populations as it dehydrates them so they shun it..
Oh, by host I meant a talk radio host. He was the one doing the equating of the bill to rape. And he was the one who called the House a rape room.
That disgusted me. Today he added “political” rape as if that makes it better.
Thanks for the hosting and music. Good night
Agreed, one of the shortcomings of activism in an open forum. You teach more folks than say so i would imagine.
Well, in my experience you’re better off going on patrol with a mild ammonia solution in a spray bottle for the first 4 weeks of young starts. In a bad year, 6 weeks. The ammonia gives the plants a nitrogen bump through the leaves and stops the harmful pests from settling in.
1 tablespoon to 1 quart water.
It’s kind of traumatic if you have a hate to see things suffer and you spray an adult slug. They suffer. The little guys just disintegrate quick.
I grow organic and it’s the only pest control I use. But you have to go out and spray at sundown regularly when every bug goes home. Most just leave because they can’t nest in a hostile environment. Then the battle subsides.
I have a serious brown recluse and scorpion problem… especially under my house. I really don’t like using poisons.
Time to try Diatomaceous Earth.
Sounds toxic. I would leave…)
Hope e? No, remember Pandora’s box? In most versions she opened it and all the evils flew out into the world. In the original, the last thing left in the box after all the evils flew out was Hope.
That’s where that came from 7 years ago when I chose this name. I’ve wanted to stomp on it many times since then.
No, not toxic. Washes away immediately in the next rain.
Ok I admit I laughed at that ending just a little. (bless your heart)
Well firedogs… an early day for me tomorrow so I shall bid you all a goodnight.
My favorite WS tune is “Skinny Women and Fat Cigars.”
Sweet dreams,ES. Thank you for being such a dedicated host. Now that my living room is free of teevee watching people I can play your music selection.
Wow, that’s so uptown after only 3 weeks of high speed. Doesn’t take much to forget where you were in the “old days” of internet access. No music, no videos, KO Special Comments in print form………
I feel like a traitor to all the other people who suffer in gorgeous rural settings with dial-up. I’m afraid I’ve left them behind. /s/
Why won’t the mainstream media use the term “Republican terrorists” when it’s appropriate. Even HuffPo’s headline read:
These people are Republican’s egged on by the Republican heirarchy. And their behavior is the Democrats #1 campaign opportunity for the Fall.
No, trust me, use the poisons. It’s just not worth it. My friend was bitten by a Hobo spider, less toxic slightly[?] from a brown recluse. After 4 days of a nasty “bug bite” she went to the doctor. The first doctor had no clue and sent her home with topical ointments. She developed excruciating pain and went to the ER. Luckily, the ER doctor had experience with insect bites. Most doctors don’t. He gave her the good news; he could save her leg. Had she not been diagnosed within another 12 hours it would have become serious.
Kill Them. Just my humble opinion. Kill Them Now.
It’s a shame nobody plays these tunes anymore…
Dr Hook
Climax Blues Band
Atlanta Rhythm Section
Did You tube just crash…? ;-)
I’m a new high speed internet person. It’s pretty amazing how many people are conversing on FDL at one time, all the time. I had no idea. People are talking all over the place.
Rock on, FDL. I’m proud to be a monthly subscriber.
*aaargh* Senate will have to return health bill to House
Now, they no longer have any excuse for not permitting a vote on adding a public option.
howdy, Pups! Home from work, and it’s nice to see folks still up.
Aloha, M’dear…! I’m up the mtn, tonite…! ;-)
One could hope, however, I’m not holding my breath…! ;-)
So, what does that mean?
Isn’t it good to return the Senate bill to the House when it comes to Pell Grants? I’m so confused.
The Senators are the Elite Children of Robber Barons by and large, right? Never had to have government handouts because their families had already confiscated large amounts of natural resources for a couple of American generations.
The House contains over-achieving Upper Middle Class children who strive to be Robber Barons. Except for a handful of Dreamers from both sides. So, they need to show support for Pell Grants while destaining them, right?
Basically, there goes the Pell Grant fixes…! Apparently it didn’t clear the recon hurdle…
Lido Shuffle…
Fuck. I was afraid of that. Oh, well. what’s the point in enslaving more youth into financial bondage with the carrot that Edukation=job. Sign up now for a cataclysmic loan that’ll destroy your early adulthood. And MORE!!!!
The Senate bill must go back to the House for a second vote. There is no reason not to include a public option at this point. If the public option is added and it doesn’t pass it can simply be removed.
The Senate has adjourned for the night and will reconvene at 9:45 AM. The are planning to pass the final bill around 2 PM.
It is critical that everyone email/contact their Senator between now and then and demand that they offer or co-sponsor a public option amendment.

Please do this now.
Thanks.
bmull-
deep bow. your diary made my day.
I’ve known Watermelon Slim from the time before he became Watermelon Slim. A friend even has some tape of me and him noodling around together back in the day. He’s worked very hard to become the great bluesman he now is.
Neat, I’m still listening to the video… good driving stuff.
