Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers with Stevie Nicks — I Need To Know, live from Gatorville, 2006.
What’s on your mind?

I NEVER would have thought of her doing that particular Petty tune.
She nails it!!!
Nice!

Howdy CT and SN!

Mwahh! (smooches!)

I honor your reasons. I still think he’s hot. What?
hey bb — how’s your bay tonight?
Hey, dood…! I’m putting the final touches on a new AfPak post…! ;-)
Did your Aunt Ginny die today too?
Wassup Kelly!!! Nice Post At Seminal, Hoss!!!!
sorry for your loss
A lot to be in a crappy mood about this week, Suz . . .
When’s it go up?
Home a bit early from work. Looking forward to elbow surgery in the early morning. I want that elbow and arm back!
Earlier than ever. [Some day I'm gonna get that initial "aloha".]
Sitting here watching the tournament, so I’m in front of my computer for a change.
Hi all.
Awww, dang, hugz demi ((((demi!)))
hope it goes smoothly and you recover fast et
Yehm Demi, me too . . . . wishin you and family as well as possible . .
Hey everyone. I’m still very tired from the time change, days ago…anyone else?
That’s a great song, Suz.
hey mauimom — how’s your island?
Good Evening everybody.
Just finished watching a documentary on the Japanese balloon attacks on the US during WWII. Amazing story which included details on the science and manufacturing of these devices.
A family was killed on the Oregon beach by one of these, the only mainland casualties of WWII.
The story ended by saying approx 620 of these balloons are unaccounted for and that very likely, their bombs are lost somewhere in the rugged mountain wildernesses, still waiting to be discovered, their bombs possibly still deadly!
One of the balloons tangled with the power lines to Hanford and shut down the reactors for 3 days.
thanks margot — how’s ohio?
Yeah, there’s a lot of that going around.
Quick healing!!! What’s the surg entail? Is it bursitis that inflamed it? Tendon torn?
hey starbuck — how’s it on your side of the coast range?
Smooch! Cheer!
It’s kinda cool. Has been raining on & off for days. Very unusual. But we need the water.
It’s not unexpected. The nice thing was I was having lunch with my sissy when we got the call. And, mom was with my other sissy. So we went to her house and we were all together when we broke the news. As the eldest, it was my job. Held her had and told her and then listened to a couple of hours of great old stories.
Thanks.
Nice and warm! Went into the gorge again.
May be out to the beach in about a week.
Are you having a tough time typing? All the best, ET.
We have buds on trees, dogs want to frolic outside. Lovely.
hard to be cheery when reading all the hatred, insults, name calling and pure spite nastiness going on here with my fdl family.
Suzanne, looks like you have plenty of good company. Best wishes for a great evening. Night night, all.
g’nite demi
Hugs, Suzanne. And some tears.
I guess they’ll go in there, try to see what makes the bursa keep on inflaming, and go from there. Normally pretty minor stuff, but sorta scary early in the week, when the elbow infected and started spreading to my heart. The antibiotics really seem to have worked though. i’m glad I talked my Doc into waiting until tomorrow, instead of doing emergency surgery on Tuesday. I think they’ll be able to see what ids going on better with the inflammation pretty much gone.
Reading the crazy right-wing responses to the way the Obama administration is handling the Israelis kicking Biden and HRC in the nuts and ovaries last week, I’m thinking it may be time for a re-make of a movie that doesn’t need one – Dr. Strangelove.
In short, all these people claiming Obama is out of line are saying that he’s stealing our precious bodily fluids.
It looks like I’m going to have to have a tube inserted into my, ironically, right ear drum… I made the journey to Rushbo’s favorite hospital, Queen’s Medical Center to see an ENT Doc…! It appears that my right Eustachian tube is plugged, not the nasal cavity itself, and the Tympanic cavity is filled with fluid by a vacuum-induced osmosis…!
Literally, I can’t hear the right…! ;-)
I do 70 wpm with 2 hands, 30 with one.
hey ce — how’s cleavland?
I don’t know about that. I’ve had to stay away from daytime FDL. I really want the bill to pass.
30 million people.
Now or never. And it can be improved, for sure.
Nite Demi!
oh no ct — well maybe that does have its benefits /s
hope it goes well dood
Well! I had the MOST entertaining night ever! We had a curator in from London to talk about “Safe Sex in the Eighteenth Century.” Way, way cool!
Hi Chris!
sounds like a fun topic ce
Did they discuss not using lead on the hair??
Hey Margot,
OMG the most beautiful, warm and sunny day in March in memory. Lovely.
Mahalo, Ma Cheri…! He said it would be only a temporary tube and the ear drum would/could heal quickly…! ;-)
Wow, wishing YOU well soon, too!!!
Great crowd, wonderful lecture, super images. I didn’t know that James Boswell, diarist of Samuel Johnson, had the clap, and perhaps…more.
That’s great, CTuttle. Hope the healing goes well.
no
Sorry, was on the phone for a bit.
Wow ET, and CT – elbows and ears! Hope you guys are healed up quickly.
Oh
I so wish I couldn’t hear them either… Fuck I
might have to read some of their fonts…sigh… back to lurkdom…
hey nahant — the mod squad has been taking a beating this week — waving g’nite to ya you lurker you
…are you sure you haven’t been watching too much Glenn Beck?
Wassup Nahant!
ms julie sends her love Suz…
Sounds like we have a nominee for new national anthem, Suz.
Now that everything is on a need to know basis.
Oh man, this has been a horrible week. Geez, Suzanne. My sympathies to the Mods, goodness, what crap this week.
hey ppd — how are ya?
hey dude how goes it out there in Sacto??
….snoozzz
There have been some serious non Pup goons beating hard on Mz. Hamsher, Jon Walker, FDL and the Pups, no doubt. Jason just got POUNDED again today, too . . . .
Outside agitators, Rahmian like . . . and of course, the HCR issues has some Pups on both sides of pass it don’t pass it . . . you folks behind the scenes are doing a GREAT job but I know it takes a toll . . . hang tough and thanks for all you and the others do for us readers.
token sends tucker a woof (but is jealously guarding the doggie treats)
Nite hoss . . . .
OK here, Suz — how’s everything up north?
the mods get to read each and every comment — remember those you read are nothing compared to what the mods have to read
hiya, nahant
It has been rough.
I’ve tried not to be a dick and make more mod work, but if I have, sorry about that Suz.
What did I miss?
sunny 69 today but down to 38 tonight
If you just call me
I guess I can vaguely imagine how ugly the stuff we never see is . . . The Orange Satan lets a lot of that stuff go by, so I guess that’s a decent example of what you folks monitor and spare us from . . again, bless you and all mods for the work you do.
Me too.
I agree. This is not a time for recrimination, but it is a time for progressives to understand why the press and the White House treat them with contempt. And why the Blue Dogs, with far fewer numbers, have far greater influence, and will have proportionately more influence going forward.
Seems to me Kelly, given all you’ve dealt with, you done good. And I recall a couple of really GOOD Troll Spankies that were nice and polite . . *G*
Some seemed to be former contributors turned sour. It’s easy to do, considering the massive, uniform course reversals going on. The march of the lemmings is deeply worrisome.
So is FDL at war with DailyKos?
yup Tucker big friend Tucker Bear(100lbs) is visiting with his master.. they have been getting plenty of BBQ!!! very happy pups indeed! We have been doing all maintenance on the house… Today the chimney cleaning.. shit what a lot of labor..damn stove..
oh yeah thats how we stay warm..
hey wigwam — how are ya?
Good question.
no
This wonderful blog has gone through a lot of changes in the six years I’ve been a firedog. This is a stressful time. But fdl always seems to emerge from each trying period a bit stronger.
we cracked 80 today!! first time this year!!! gorgeous!!
Sure seems like it, and I hate it.
LQQK — love ya.
Oceanafiredoglake has always been at war with Eastdailykos
LOL!
Rough, perhaps. But We finally learned what Halloween costume Obama will be wearing between now and the 2012 presidential election.
If you thought shape shifting imitation of Bill Clinton was bad, just watch the corporate contributions flood in.
Imagination at work … at least full employment for the Villager Idiot Class will remain a top administration priority.
Greenwald, for me in that linky, blurs the progressive label between elected offals and voter progs.
I think it’s obvious to EVERYONE that House Progs caved from campaign financing pressure from WH/Rahm and the Dem Machine.
Prog VOTERS however are as antibill as is, as ever cuz it’s a POS giveaway/gateway that will enable gutting of SS, MEdicare and all government provided services such as public ed. This Senat Bill is vehicle to open the floodgates to fully corporatized government and likely repealing Roe v Wade and who know WHAT else.
So, the veal pen bleating about progs/libs being FOR the POS Bill is just that, bleating. Prog voters are pissed!!!
And I’m sorry, my manners, aside from my little quibble with Greenwald, it’s a great read, he always is and thank you for sharing it . . . .
Over there, they are saying that Oceanadailykos has always been at war with Eastfiredoglake.
If you’d just let me reason with the trolls, Suz…why, I’m sure we could come to an understanding.
;>)
congrsts on snagging the 100 larue
Yes, to all you typed . . .
hey db — how’s canada?
I don’t know . . . hafta ask Mz. Hamsher!!!
Some of the PUPS sure are, though!!!
*G*
Yer up! Thought ya went snooozzzzz . . . you don’t hire a chimney sweep?
The dogshit’s a-thawing in the heartland, S. Spring around the corner.
;>)
Oh, are you talking about unicorns again? Sheesh!
That it does, Et, that it does…! *g*
*G*
And roger that about FDL and it’s changes . . . most hard core Pups seem to hold well, thru it all from what I’ve seen.
And of course, there are ALWAYS minor differences to quibble over, but I’ve seen Pups unite quite handily this past week at times to cover each other’s backs, while putting the minor differences aside . . . been kewl to see that.
I know! I’m particularly amused by the term “firebagger.”
It’s just proof that one atom can fuck up the whole molecule when it comes to propaganda.
Somehow Jane is all in bed all the time with Grover Norquist, and the fact of just pointing out that it was about “Audit The Fed” just doesn’t get any play.
Saw one of these blooming today!!!
It’s spring!
It’s of epidemic proportions. The ghastly stuff with which we have to deal on the city level, even down to the neighborhood levels, is mind boggling. Anyone sensing that they have any power at all sticks it to those they perceive do not. Respect is out of the window, along with simple courtesy.
Hello, George!
Obama goes down in a year and some as one of the BEST Republican Presidents, evah.
The distinction between ending governmental fraud and malfeasance, and just ending the government completely is lost on those people.
Masterful! As always . . . . *G*
and i’ve seen regular commenters shiv other regular commenters
LOL I did it for you, ma’am . . . lol
thank you
nah1 I work on his puter and he helps me… great deal…
I’m pretty grumpy about seeing (almost) the entire left wing fold without a serious fight on this healthcare bill. They had all the cards they needed to force a public option, but folded anyway. Sigh!
Yeah, and Ron Wyden, D Oregon is called R N.Y by the libs here in Portland.
glad I missed that..
I loved your Palin in Calgary from March 6th. I’m beginning to think she’s even better as Gen. Jack D. Ripper.
Emarkos Goldstein is behind it all, comrade – I saw it on the telescreen!
;>)
OK.
I tried sex(Hogarth’s) and all and must go to bed. Night all!
Yeah . . . daytimes are brutal at times I’ve learnt . . . it don’t help when long time regulars snark it to the others on a continual basis without ever offering up a dialogue of information, just platefulls of snark. ;-)
No names, of course . . . ;-)
GREAT deal, saves everyone money!!
twas a good try ce — i’m sorry
g’nite
it is not just in the day times folks
Thanks Suz,
Another night. Goodnight.
Suz, that sounds like a plan. Let darkblack handle it!
I see him just as much as the Wizard of Koz, with Jane as Glinda, or maybe even Dorothy.
I just want to reach out and rub a little sense into some sweet noggins, Larue. In the spirit of comity, you understand.
;>)
Watching the entire House Prog Caucus cave in was brutal, and realizing the prog voters have NO representation.
As one VERY sharp comment went, the voters have no representation in our government anymore.,
Not just the progs, ALL the voters have no representation.
ALL our elected offals serve the corporate machine, and dutifully so.
EVERYONE of them progs that signed the FDL PO Letter, every stinking one of them.
Ya know that I grow fonder by the day of the notion I was born in Edmonton, and, not Calgary…! ;-)
maybe i can get db to sponsor me so i can move to canada
builds friendship also..
Well, 31 million people.
We’d have wanted universal coverage, but it’s not to be, yet.
Who are the 5% not yet covered, assuming the bill passes?
we’ll see about improving the bill…last time healthcare was Hillary’s effort. Long time. Both Nader and Kucinich were on Democracy now a great show. Check it out at DN website. It is a horrible stinking piece of political gamemanship which will not help 45 million uninsured. Amy Goodman’s program was informational not spin.
Let’s dwell on happier days gone by, when we were all far more innocent.
;>)
nite..

Now that’s a reality show Palin deserves.
What did you say? Grin
After watching that GE piece, I’m not so sure. Obama’s model is St. Ronnie … not Lincoln, not TR, not FDR, not JFK, not Clinton.
The signs are all there:
1) High toned, jingoistic rhetoric calling forth the America everyone wants to live in, but to which only five percent of the country can afford the entry fee.
2) Absolute corporate hegemony, finishing off the unions & the real economy once and for all.
3) The military industrial intelligence complex advanced above all other national priorities.
4) Fiscal conservatism elevated to tragi-farce.
5) Wars, wars, and more wars to dominate markets & steal other peoples’ resources. I wonder if Grenada has any hidden petroleum reserves?
Gone by, indeed….
g’nite nahant
Hee!
Happy Spring!
You left Edmondchuk to get some sand in the mukluks, eh?
;>)
When Palin spoke to the tarry, oily elite in Calgary, a lot of progressive Alberta bloggers made the same observation. I wish Alaska had an Edmontonesque city.
Night nahant & CE
Good question, that 5% thing . .
I know you are counting on the bill to really be of value to you, and 31 million others . . .
I really hope it does work but the evidence gathered by Jon Walker, David D, and Greenwald and Mz. Hamsher and so many others suggests it won’t work as supporters hope it will.
At this point, with our House and Senate having caved so fully, any points of critique are almost irrelevant and we’ll just have to let time pass to see how it all plays out for the uninsured and under insured . . .
I read somewhere today, maybe FDL or Seminal, that Idaho legislature has already passed legislation demanding the legislature will sue the feds the minute the mandate kicks in. And 37 other states have similar legislation pending.
I gotta feeling this is all gonna drag out a long, long time before any care is actually realized, but I’m hoping for the best now that it’s over for all intent and purpose.
Time to start hoping for other changes to improve we the people’s lot in life . . . without elected offals to help us!
You’re right that some distinctions need to be made between political caste and the electorate, which seem to be significantly to the left of the left-wing politicos (politicians, reporters, commentators, etc.) The entire left-wing political class seems to have caved with a few rare exceptions like Michael Moore, Jane Hamsher, and Glenn Greenwald and the majority of contributors and commenters at FDL.
And Greenwald made an excellent point that I’ll take a bit further. It’s neither evil nor bad strategy to bluff. But it is fucking retarded to fold in the middle of a bluff when not all the cards have been played and when holding your ground is costing you nothing. Kucinich, for example, could have stood his ground for a more few days and possibly forced Pelosi to include a public option. You can bet she’d have added it, if that what it took to get to 218 votes.
Nader commented on DN today on the delays designed right into the legislation.
gentle persuasion! Heh
I love Amy. Link?
Network execs are as beguiled by the Crazy Woman’s charms as RNC bigwigs, apparently. The grift in the air is strong, like musk…Will they fall into the maelstrom of her narrowish eyes?
;>)
Yep. I’m with ya all the way . .
Whatever happened on Air Force One between Obama and Kuch must have been hairy.
I’ve read that Nader was sharp, crisp and spot on and Kuch looked like a sad and defeated lost soul.
Musk and Maelstrom in the same comment? Double BRAVO!
With Medicare they talk about fraud and how Medicare is corrupt because other people(!), private citizens are committing the fraud. Bizarre. Of course they want to kill Medicare whatever reason they can provide.
Living in The Departed World
Don’t be surprised if Rahm’s opposition research thugs working overtime come up with a few more Kucinich Comes to Jesus or Massa Cries No Mas votes in the house.
Nice seat you’ve got there, Dennis. Be a real shame if something happened to it, eh?
ooooow… maybe she’d find you some mounties to play with – *g*
hey markh — how ya been?
Why, yes…’When one has well-steeped insight, pour those who are without it a cup‘.
;>)
The network revenues are falling faster than her plastic surgeons are keeping up with gravity’s effects on her body, so she may be able to cash into the next level of multimillionairedom before time finishes off her value as an attractively vacuous commodity.
Loo Hoo, let’s see if this link to DN works:
From A Seminal Diary
The NSA is the world greatest oppo research opportunity, and Obama’s national security advisor, John Brennan, was one of the key people in charge of domestic surveillance under Bush. I wonder what they’ve got on Dennis. Hmmmmm.
LOL
I want to ask where you get your inspiration from for your work, but I’m afraid of the answer.
it worked larue
Yup
Not being any kind of expert, I’m guessing the feds will take up all state lawsuits at once.
This bill can only be improved once it passes. Soon, hopefully.
Please don’t encourage his wayward ways…! ;-)
*handing ya some of my tin foil* glad to know i’m not the only one who wondered about that…
I hope Obama’s pattern is better than Reagan since the start of that was quite rocky with that voodoo economics crap delaying real action to fix the economy.
This time around we’ve got a better reaction on economics, better chances on healthcare reform, better foreign policy than many and only a little over one year gone. Much more can be achieved if we can keep Dems in charge.
Perhaps the Reagan pattern is just the political and public relations aspect with re-election in there.
I Wrote A Letter Today.
Kewl!
Google Democracy now should have text.
it will be kicked to roberts and the supremes
they will rule how their corporate masters tell them to rule
“Hey, Dennis, that’s sure a beautiful wife you’ve got there. It’d sure be a shame if she heard about …”
and it was recommended
I can’t help myself!
Norquist’s Political Neutron Bomb
If Norquist’s life ambition is realized, it will signal the republic’s last gasp. When people accept that government is a failure, then it’s not long before the society those people live in is destroyed.
Yeah, there was discussion about whether the states COULD sue the Feds over the mandate . . . all to be seen as it unfolds . . . and this Supreme Court has proven ITS suckiness . . . and we might lose one more lefty on it, I read today, forget which one it was, he might retire sooner than later.
Dawg KNOW who Obama would nominate . . . and then there’s the confirmation process.
Must be that moose musk…! ;-)
Thanks!
I’m well, how are you? I haven’t been around here much lately, but I’m reading a lot of blogs. I noticed there’s a new collection of cooking recipes going up. That’s pretty neat. I’m even tempted to make some bread from one of them.
What’s new around here? Has everybody got health insurance yet? Heh.
It really sucks being in the minority in Congress. Whether you’re in the Republicans current position or the Progressives. Somehow the barest majority can find ways to really control the agenda and prevent the Public Option, er Interest from taking hold.
At least it’s not a republican reform bill to take us back to 1845. LOL /s
was it stevens? i’m thinking i read some rumor about him yesterday?
Thank you loo hoo.
maybe that is why she hunts from the air? to avoid that moose musk smell?
Moose Musk Rats! Well, No Moose’s
Hilarious! Now, that’s a different take on a TEA Party.
That’s definitely one tea party not meant for little girls.
L
Bingo, yep, thanks . . . .
seminal has been running art saturdays and food sundays — is that what you are talking about?
When her painted mask fades and cracks, but before America finally dispenses with her as it does with all of its broken toys eventually…perhaps she can go out on a high note touring the college lecture circuit with Jim and Dave – The Quitter, Spitter, and Shitter tour, tumbrels and stocks available after the chinwag for a nominal fee.
;>)
gasp!!! larue playing a pop song?
where’s my smelling salts?
NEWS FLASH — Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction have been found … in Ohio’s 10th congressional district.
Bind his hands — there’s nothing more dangerous than a hobbit with a sense of honor and decency toward others.
No tea like Hanni-tea.
;>)
Imagine if McConnell and Boehner were in charge.
It was meant as a sarcastic prop, nothing more, I assure you!!!! ;-)
congrats on the 200 ppd
Two questions — 1) Who says they’re not? 2) Oh, did you have something to say, Harry? I thought not.
too late
would not have believed it if i didn’t see it with my own two lying eyes — busted dood *g*
luck o’ da draw, Suz — congrats on a lively discussion tonight
What I saw today was the lesser of two evils strategy. Lose the bill and the mid term according to DEM strategist. The insanity of this broken process drives people mad and in the heat of anger stuff happens. QUE SARA! Tomorrow may be a better day…we have until Sunday for the deal making to end. Pelosi is having to give away the farm.
thanks ppd — i always worry and fuss and fret when a thread is not lively — i put these late late night posts up so ya’ll will have a place to talk about whatever ya’ll want to…
Pay no mind to that beachy ruffian, Kelly – Why, I hear they ran him out of the True North for igloo selling without a license and now he ends up in a tropical clime getting paid to look up in the dark…No doubt the proceeds from a youth spent cheating at Cribbage are aiding this caper.
;>)
Well, fret not ma’am!
Unfortunately, stuff just gets lost somewhere in the loop.
Off to bed.
i come from a long line of worriers
g’nite starbuck — give me a call if ya head to the beach
Rahm’s Rules of Order
When citizens can’t run for office and win, then honor their oath to act in the best interest of their constituents, the social contract between the governed and their government is destroyed.
Heh!
[gingerly passes the ball back to Ctuttle!]
laughing — ended up in a tropical clime getting paid to stand in the snow looking up at the dark
A mistake, I make ONE mistake . . . ;-)
Pretty soon everyone will have healthcare INSURANCE. Wish it were simply a universal package, but here we are. A much better place if the bill were to pass.
time for some sleep – be well, all.
And ‘going commando’ doing it, as his lusty breed is known to do.
;>)
g’nite ppd
Teddy Offers Yet MORE Reason To Sigh
bwahahahaha
Niters, thanks for the chats . . .
another recommended diary — i’m so disheartened by this administration and congress
Go figure, eh…? ;-)
What are the odds…?!
I liked the cribbage winnings part . . . too funny!
Time for me to crash.
G’nite, all.
Yes! Hearty congrats PPD!
In answer to the post title and text question…
I’ve been thinking about financial reforms and then just this evening I saw a C-SPAN show where Sen. Shelby (R-Alabama) and Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Maryland) spoke to a group from the American Bankers Association. Most were probably lobbyists, but many were also probably bankers.
Sadly, the bankers applauded Shelby who used the occasion to promote Republican sloganeering and constant implying that he and Republicans understand bankers and will reform according to their desires. It was sickening. Those idiots actually believe the Republicans who were in charge and created the Great Recession are somehow smart about this stuff. How many hammer blows to the head does it take for people to realize it wasn’t the Community Reinvestment Act which deregulated and set up the regulatory environment incentive structure, so that Wall St. bankers could run this con to destroy and profit all at once and the Republicans are as guilty as those bankers. Ooooh, long mini-rant sentence. Sorry.
Anyway, almost as sad, Hoyer gave a decent speech without really addressing specifics of reform. He talked about the success of Dems with the economy and failure of the Bush era. The audience, suffice it to say, did NOT applaud. They still don’t get it.
Worst of all, I’ve given reform some thought and I don’t think the Dodd bill hits the sweet spot at all. I think the problems are much more far-ranging and will require a long long time to solve. More than that it will require Dems getting back 60 votes in the Senate. Who knows if we can achieve that.
What are the problems and what reform is needed? Well, primary is NOT a Consumer Protection agency.
This blog has discussed economic issues at great length and I reviewed a lot of that discussion to see what the consensus was. Nowhere in there is a Consumer Protection agency. Mostly the Dodd bill hits on about 4 of the reforms this blog produced and there were many more which weren’t of a critical nature related to our most recent crisis. Our Congress isn’t as in touch with this crisis as bloggers here at FDL.
I suggest Jane and some other regular economics posters from this blog should get in touch with Congress and set them straight.
I’m not sure where in the Obama administration we’re occasionally getting crap, but the DoJ is one source for Repub holdovers and somewhere in Treasury there must be a few more. We need to speak for the public interest which in this case includes suggesting some reforms Treasury and bankers will not especially like, but which are very important.
Here are the ones I’m currently suggesting:
* Ban off-the-books financial entities which hide losses & debts
* Fix mortgage lending rules
* Ban splitting of assets in Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDOs)
* Ban Adjustable Rate Mortgages
* Create an agency for winding-down bankrupt financial firms
* Require Congressional approval of any new financial innovation or product
* Merge the SEC and the CFTC into a Federal Markets Commission
* Ban non-productive speculative commodity trading
* Require all derivative trades be transparent on a clearing house
* Ban naked shorting
* Reinstate the uptick rule for shorting (The SEC limited rule is okay.)
* Ban naked credit default swaps
* Regulate CDSs as insurance
* Ban split-second market trading
* Create a New Federal Insurance Commission
I hope this blog can utilize the knowledge developed over months of observation and discussion to push our Dem legislators in a better direction.
The other (flare-up) issue which makes me think is Israel-Palestinians, but I’ll not go into that now.
g’nite wigwam
ya gotta be lugging around some bad karma dood….
It must be the kilts, dood…! ;-)
Them drafts can be serious bizness, ya know…!
Yeah.
Art Saturdays? I’ve been missing that. Saturday is my ‘day off’ and I don’t even turn the computer on.
I love good art, whether it’s musical or sculptural or architectural or sporting or even political. Painting is just one activity which can produce works of art.
No intiendo. All Harry and Nancy have to do is keep it up. Go for it and continue to ignore Boehner and Miss McConnell.
if only the powers that be would listen to jane and the rest… its not that we haven’t tried…
they do not want to hear what we have to say
ooooooh check them out — sem is loaded with all kinda art posts of all kinda art every sat. gonna have to turn on the pooter — tis well worth the effort :)
That’s evil to even suggest. I’ll probably have a nightmare…in gray & orange.
Good night all – gotta go. Smooch!
g’nite kelly
Return regulation, such as Glass-Steagall . . . separate banking from financing/investing.
Your’s is a good list.
The use of phantom stock, short and naked short selling, hedging both ways against traded stocks . . . all of that is evil.
Aloha, Kelly and wigwam, et alia…! ;-)
Niters hoss.
If you haven’t read the odyssey and tale of Deep Capture you’ll find it incredibly informing and damning, while it exposes all the ways of corruption that exist on and about The Wall.
Lengthy, in depth, and riveting once you get started on it.,
On healthcare they listened in one big fundamental way which is easily overlooked.
They’re doing reform on healthcare.
Before that was the #1 Democratic Party agenda item it wouldn’t have happened. It was the more Liberal members of the party who set that agenda and if Jane had been in the room it might have had more detail attached to it.
As it is the Crisis came first, as they always do, and healthcare reform was next.
That’s not ignoring the base. The process was very messy, as listening to a lot of voices always is, and a lot of ideas were considered. Many related directly to personal stories which came to the Congress because Liberal groups pushed it into their faces. Congress couldn’t ignore the human element. And, that’s not something small and insignificant.
The single-payer system wasn’t chosen, but reform, messy and all, IS being done. That’s a victory for the base in the gross big granularity sense.
If you were a Dem leader your next thought might be, “What does the base want next?” Who else are they going to ask for ideas, bankers?
It’s important for the Liberals and the base activists (of all stripes) to know what’s going on in the world and what must be attended to and to communicate that to Congress directly or through the party. They have to respond when the facts hit ‘em up side da head.
‰ightio, Larue. This bill need fixes. I still want it to pass.
Niters LH, sleep and be well, the sun will rise again . . . ONE thing we can count on still, huh . .
I got the list from sorting through discussions of this blog, so it has goodness oozing out of it. :-)
But, somebody has to tell Congress, so they don’t putz around with stuff that can’t pass.
I know economic stuff isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but if activists like Jane don’t get involved, then who is going to get the attention of Congress?
More earthy would be concerns over pesticides and carbon pollution and plastics and the like or maybe banning nukes, but soon financial reform will be on the plate, so it’s time to grab Congress by the throat and gently persuade them, no horse’s heads please, on issues the base knows about.
Read it.
Well, even those protecting America in vain from the depredations of wanton foreign astronomers bent on sand, surf, and Sirius need rest – but ‘I stand on guard for thee!’
;>)
‘night, FDL.

Maybe Jane would consider having an environmental specialist as a front pager. If you post a diary, folks will decide!
*heh* No sacrifice too small, dood…! Aloha…! 8-P
Aloha, Suzie-Q…!
I don’t think Congress will be listening to anyone who talks about real econ reform anymore than they listened to anyone advocating real healthcare reform.
So, I see any efforts to EDUCATE Congress to be a folly.
Now, to try and PRESSURE Congress with our votes as November comes closer?
That’s a whole ‘nother ballgame . . . but sadly, it’s also a game that takes a lot of money and the support of the MSM . . . which the progs don’t have.
These are dark days hoss, on all issues, and the corporate oligarchy is fully entrenched and in control of it all.
Well, I missed DB and Suz . . . but, I’m outta here too.
Thanks for the chats, Pups, we do it again soon.
