If you could play Aaron Copeland’s Copland’s classic tribute to the ordinary citizen using only one hand and your armpit — you might approach the intellectual quality of Megan McArdle’s discourse on public behavior.
You may have already seen this…Ohio teabaggers show kindness and affection toward an individual with parkinson’s disease, obviously influenced by noted humanitarian Rush Limbaugh:
To be sure, the people mocking the counter-protester come across as louts. But their behavior doesn’t exactly seem to be out of bounds by the standards of protest and counterprotesters…No matter how frail his condition, could the fellow on the ground possibly have been seriously endangered by having two bills hurled his way?
I’d certainly be willing to take such harsh treatment from the nice folks at Progress Ohio.
Yes, mocked, abused and patronized for a serious disability or illness is the price you pay for not being “put down” or something in Megan’s libertarian paradise. And among the right-wing, she was the classy one. Awesome.
Megan is willing to have people throw money at her in Columbus, Ohio? She could likely find the perpetrators of this abuse here — so have at it McArdle..

About Firedoglake
the days must get worse before they can get better
by the way, is your title supposed to be assfuck or assshit? neither one makes much sense to me
My hometown appears to be big on America. Americans, not so much. I’m not sure Megan draws a distinction between hatred and protesting or even worse cares.
I always thought that “two bills” meant 200$, not 2$.
Did they throw hundreds at him?
“I’d certainly be willing to take such harsh treatment from the nice folks at Progress Ohio.”
And give change, too. It’s the Objectivist way.
The tradition of despising the unfortunate dates back farther than teabaggage. It’s part of the mindset that that socialist, J.C. Xist, wrote about as ‘whited sepulchres’, who reserve the good places in their church for their paying clients.
Before you get too self-congratulatory with your dishing of someone else’s “intellectual quality”, you might want to spell the 6th word of your post correctly. Copland. Sheesh.
note to attaturk; your last link, to Mcardle, has been switched to what looks like a porn site.
Never seen cruelty as openly, unashamedly expressed in this country as it has been in the past few years. This little episode is emblematic of it – as is Ms. McArdle’s implication that it’s OK because only money was being thrown at the sick man. Money seems to make cruel intentions and ridiculing the sick socially acceptable to her. Sick.
I could not find “Sheesh” in the dictionary. Does “intellectual quality” include making up words?
comma in the wrong place in your comment….
Does this not prove the Teabaggers are essentially displaced Republicans? Attacking the victim is a Republican/conservative/right-wing thing.
Attu has been attacked early by a teatroll.
Actually, displaced not at all. It’s become the party of psychotics.
They shrivel up in the light.
So that really is a light bulb above their heads.
which generally appears to have burned out.
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins and Kristof today. Ms. Collins addresses some “Sex Scandals to Learn By,” and says when it comes to helpful life lessons, there’s nothing like a political sex scandal. (The last sentence made me laugh out loud.) Mr. Kristof, in “Access, Access, Access,” says great health care often is about just being in a position to get some.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got toasted Thomas’ English muffins and your favorite jam. As far as Megan McCurdle is concerned, she and the Pasty Little Putz are why I no longer subscribe to The Atlantic. I’m hard pressed to decide which annoys me worse… He’s a sanctimonious little prig (and I’m being kind there) and she’s an insufferable twit (not necessarily the word I’d like to use). Why either one of them gets paid to “write” defeats me. Have a great day.
Respect comes with being regarded as equal. I don’t think the man on the ground was looking for special treatment. In any case, the TP guys look like prickish people.
Thanks, Marion. Helpful life lessons … another description is ‘learning experience’. Seems like they usually result from behaving badly and getting caught.
Starting from the top down both in politics and in finance. The Reaganites set the tone early with the devastating “tax cuts” which were actually a tax increase on the poor and, vanishing, middle class. During the Clinton years that cruelty went to new heights (lows?) with the giveaways to the banking industry, farming industry and, of course, NAFTA that cost Americans hundreds of thousands of jobs. Greed was the mantra all along and to hell with the people that needed assistance to live in a capitalist cesspool.
Bush and his torture cronies and the multi billion dollar giveaway to the finance industry was just more of the same with an added FU included. Nasty people all of them….and the present occupant of the WH is not a lot better at this point.
Thought you were talking about Sullivan there for a minute.
The appropriate Christian response:
Matthew 25:40:
‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’
Bardic, a commenter at TBogg’s, says everything that needs to be said about Ms. McCurdle:
Good Morning everyone. I’m getting a sinking feeling that we’re losing the health care battle even worse than we feared. The special interest money is being upped and I fear we’re going to be very disappointed when this bill is released. Change that, we already know we’re disappointed, I think we’ll be devastated.
That women really is a dipshit. One wonders what she thought of the protesters from Lexington and Concord, the protesters in Tianamin (Sp?) Square, the protesters in Gdansk, the protesters in Hungary facing the Soviet tanks or maybe she means people who protest against the cruelty and greed she supports
One more thing to make my day perfect…The NBC website has an article saying Al Franken can be nasty. Seriously. Did we ever see such an article about all the real SOB’s in the Senate? No, they single out Franken.
Damn liberal media…/snark
Good morning all. Haven’t had enough coffee yet to enter the comments fray.
It is worse than the HC mess we have at the moment. At least now (most, many?) women can get an abortion on their insurance. Now poor people are not fined for not buying what they cannot afford. This POS bill is a large step backward.
TPM’s reporting that even Shadegg would support a PO. There’s no excuse for not putting it up to a vote.
And I think we all know that the more the bill bows to corporate interests, the worse the CBO score. Go with single payer and we have a huge savings.
There has just been a rocket attack from the freedom fighters in Gaza. The Palestinians are fighting back against the genocide so there will, no doubt, be an over response from the war mongering Israelis, maybe OB will give them some drones to kill even more civilians.
It appears to link to what it is supposed to link to, a strip club.
Ah, a new day dawns. What fresh outrages will be perpetrated against the base?
Edit: and we should set out tea and cookies for the first time visitors.
Or even allow people to buy into Medicare either way billions of dollars would be saved by the American people, billions of dollars saved from obscene profits and not from Health Care.
*note to self, click on mcardle link*
Is it teabaggage or teabaggery? I’d always chosen the latter up to now, but your suggestion is also quite nice.
Odd… All of a sudden almost all of Attaturk’s post is in strikethrough. Is it just me?
Teabaggagery?
another html cockup!
You might want to change the third vowel.
probably left an open tag, I get the same thing
Fixed…HTML incident.
there are clubs for stripping?
how can I join such a club, this is an activity I quite enjoy and would like to be a member with other like minded in such a club.
It had crossed my mind.
@nomolos. Also good.
Tx. And, for what it’s worth, I don’t much care if you misspell Copland’s name as long as you link to his music. Love his work.
Allan, that vowel change would work better with my earlier suggestion.
Now Copland is missing the d.
There’s just no misspelling that will satisfy some people!
Really. /pickiness
What is this, a spelling and punctuation class? Buncha dang elitist libruls.
there are clubs for stripping?
how can I join such a club,….
I’d want some detailed information about the policy for hazing new members first.
heh. I said ‘members’.
You misspelled liberal. *g*
tee hee
We’re getting live thread at an impossible hour, folks. Let’s be gentle with each other, and with our noble host and emcee.
The composer is Aaron Copland, not Coplan or Copeland. And “Girls of Kahoots”??
*My work here is done*
See Attaturk’s 46.
Me, too, Marion. All of his work!!
Oh, we’re just havin’ some fun. And early hour? It’s nearly 7:30 here.
And “Girls of Kahoots”??
yes. This is a subject which requires more study and objective observation.
Road trip?
I was trying to explain Ms. McCurdle to Mr. Marion in Savannah on the way to work, and he had a suggestion. If she wouldn’t mind having dollars thrown at her he thought perhaps 2 rolls of pennies in a tube sock. You’d get sort of a David and Goliath thing going on…
did you get teh gorgeous weather up there yesterday?
Cop Land is a very good film with Sly Stallone, De Niro, and Keitel who is terrific in his role. Garofalo the Progressive has a charming bit part.
Stallone and good film in one sentence. Now I am really impressed
Yeah, he’s pretty good too. Understated but poignant, but Keitel is the reason to see the film. He’s never been better.
The guy sitting gets it. Very clear example of the value of non-violent protest.
Notice how the rest of the news report lumps all the protesters together as unreasonable, despite the fact that the Teabaggers are off-the-charts ridiculous compared to the other side? This guy knew he could expose Teh Crazy and there was no way it could be spun any other way.
Glad to see this getting so much play. That protester has done more to diminish the teabaggers than anyone has recently. Bravo, my man!
I’ve always thought Jeneane was a talented actress too. Wish she would do more work in the movies, but Hollywood casting the way it is..
Stallone’s a genius. Just ask him.
He doesn’t look once at the camera. Focused concentrated gaze at the target. Bravo indeed. I’m totally behind him.
Mornin’, Attaturk, pups
That’s about the swankiest strip club I’ve ever seen. Does McArdle do lap dances? I oughtta be able to round up some of those 10M mark notes from Germany during the depression to stuff in her g-string.
OK, OK so I forgot the /s. but I have seen better acting in a kindergarten class.
With guest appearances by Bachman and Perino
Do libertarians have a position on stripping.
Damn, I’m gonna have to get a wheelbarrow to carry all the marks I’ll need. Those Brazilian wax jobs are expensive I’m told.
You haven’t seen many movies. Check out Cop Land. He really is surprisingly decent in it.
missionary only.
Good morning all.
Swim is up…
Gosh, I never knew that you were keeping count. Is there anything else about me that I do not know?
If they win We The People lose.If the Democrats win We The People lose. For the last 40 years We The People lose.Every American in charge thought the middle class had to much and would not know when thay took there bribe.
I feel so ashamed to live in Columbus today.
Here is what I don’t understand. Don’t 40 ish white guys, like the one throwing the money, ever have health issues? Either their own or in their family? It stuns me that these people act as if the only people who can’t afford health care, have had their insurance cancelled, have “pre-existing” conditions, or any illness or imperfection at all are socialist, communist, unAmerican, usuperin mofo’s who deserve it. It seems to me that an angry, red-faced, 40-ish, somewhat pudgy white guy is a prime candidate for oh, say heart disease. I bet Mr Khaki money-throwing Dude is right in the front row of his local (insert Xtian Denomination of your choice) church every Sunday and thinks he is a fine Xtian individual. Apparently he doesn’t know his Mark 25:41-46.
This article shows just how rude, crude, abusive and ignorant the tea baggers and the rethugliCANT “family values” vigilantes can be towards the plight of their “fellow” Americans.
And what do a significant number of commentors to this article do?
Show their outrage for the way a double digit percentage of Americans think and act about the hardships of their fellow man? Nope…
They nit pick chicken shit details like spelling, grammar and punctuation and quote bible verses.
No wonder the right wingers kick our liberal asses so often – and so easily.
