While Democrats fret over whether we should investigate BushCo torture, Republicans move to investigate teh gay.
The scandal around disgraced ex-Rep. Eric Massa rocked Capitol Hill again Thursday as Republicans forced ethics officials to take another look at sordid charges of sexual harassment – and how they were handled. [...]
“Speaker Pelosi once promised the American people ‘the most open and ethical’ Congress in history, but she has broken that promise,” Boehner said.
And so it goes.

About Firedoglake
Pelosi looked like a deer in the headlights when Rachel asked her about Bush Admin accountability.
Mornin’, BT, pups
Pelosi is pathetic.
Well, I guess the good news is that we can now save a ton of money by abolishing the entire criminal justice system.
After all, it is a system that is ALWAYS looking backwards rather than forward, and obviously we are now too evolved and enlightened to ever need to look backward again.
Money-making opportunity: Invest in fortune-tellers!
Thought crimes.
This is just so dishonest. Just because the President said he wanted to look forward, the Congress lost all authority to investigate any of these outrages? No, I’m sorry. That just doesn’t pass the smell test. I am so ashamed of this country when I watch stories on Al-Jazeera about things like the horrible birth defects in Fallujah that can only be explained by the terrible weapons we used there- that affected civilians. There will be accountability- somehow, some time, whether President Obama and Speaker Pelosi support it or not. I fear for the American people.
Let’s just move forward. Because that worked out so well with the Nixon administration.
FUCK!
Massa’s a Democrat and not held up to the same “family values” standards that Republicans hold themselves up to.
Oh, but the threat of Nixon impeachment just tore the country apart, dontcha know. But not the Clinton impeachment. Spit.
I just left you a response on last night’s thread.
She side-stepped the issue of torture.
The problem Obama is putting us in is that it is tough to prosecute the previous admin for torture when the current admin is still blowing up entire families with unmanned Predator Drones.
Torture vs. Murder, the new Monsters vs. Aliens
Traitor, part of the overthrow of the constitution and that’s why she has her job.
Gee, I hope we can find more of this type to finish the job. Gutless, self-serving bastards. /s
This ‘move forward’ crap is such a pathetic excuse to ignore crimes committed. Let’s just pass a resolution in congress to remove the words “and justice for all” in the pledge of allegiance.
If the President and Pelosi want only to keep moving forward, may I suggest that they start driving Toyotas.
It also puts at risk the Congressional leadership of the time, many of whom are still in Congress. If I were Obama, ROFL, on Inauguration Day I’d have told Granny McConnell “single payer or I’m gonna turn DOJ loose on your ass for war crimes.”
I can’t watch the clip, ’cause there’s people sleeping on the couch. Soon as the bus comes, I’ll kick them into the other son’s bedroom.
I wanted to say you guys are too hard on Nancy, but I’ll wait until I view the clip.
Don’t suppose a thief or a murderer could use the ‘move forward’ defense. Though expect it to apply to corp executives who commit fraud any day now.
Don’t worry. It will all come to light.
Republicans are nowhere near as shy about prosecuitng their enemies as Democrats are. I’m sure the Jeb Bush Administration will vigorously investigate and prosecute the many crimes of the Obama Administration when they take office in 2012.
My scorn for the Republican Party is born out of expectation, my scorn for the Democratic Party is born out of disappointment. Sadly, it amounts to the same thing. :-(
And Obama took a job that involves more than looking ahead. That’s what the Col George Custer did too.
He swore to defend and uphold the constitution and faithfully execute the laws of the land, that would include dealing out punishment for those that committed TREASON, and Lying us into a false war with false evidence has to be the high crimes the constitution spoke of.
Good Morning, Ms. e.
Can I scream? I got an email from a company I applied to last week. It’s a company that makes custom woodwinds. OMG! I want it. I want it. I want it.
ROFL.
She says, no, we couldn’t prove Bush did anything impeachable and that’s why we didn’t impeach. But she also says all the evidence points to the culpability of the Bush administration. She speaks out of both sides of her mouth…RACHEL!…you should have called her on the contradiction!
Pelosi is pathetic. She and her Democrat Party cohorts voted for this war, funded this war, and continue to support warlike foreign policies, and therefore they cannot afford to dig into what really happened in the last 10 years because they will implicate themselves.
Well, what’d the email say?
I will say this, though. I don’t think she’s as pathetic as Boehner.
Good morning demi. What did the email say?
but, but I’m a lawyer:)
Said to call them to set up an appointment. I called last night and spoke to the owner of the company. He wanted to know if I’m a proficient flutist. He said they want an office person who really loves music. Said his marketing guy would call me this morning.
Jumping up and down.
Maybe Margaret’s good job karma will rub off. Touch me, Margaret.
Here’s their web site:

Did Bankrupt Runaway Prius Driver Fake “Unintended Acceleration?”
I’ll grant that. And not the least because she doesn’t have a spray on tan
Fingers & toes crossed for you demi. I saw the first mockingbird of the season today, so it seems like a good day, all ’round.
Far out. Break a leg at the interview.
I would have asked her if she understands that the Bush administration, and now the Obama administration, according to Geneva Conventions, are BOTH war criminal administrations!
*G*
Looks very interesting. I’ll listen later, as I’ve got democracynow going on another window.
The new investigation initiated by the Republicans is just a very small taste of what to expect if the Republicans regain control of Congress. They will roll up their sleeves and pummel the Democrats until the Dims crawl into the corners of the House and Senate chambers bleeding, bruised and whimpering. When you do not uphold the rule of law you eventually become a victim to the barbarians.
Great note back there by the way.
Interesting.
Can you freaking imagine how totally awesome this could be for me? Getting a groovy job with groovy people all because I play the flute?
I hope they call early in the day, because I’m going back out to Whittier to see my dying aunt, again. My poor cousins. Talk about the deer in headlights look. They are all dumbstruck right now.
Go easy now.
Pissed me off.
Me too but I don’t have the gift you do.
Take a deep breath, slooooowly. Now breathe out, slooooowly. Repeat.
I’ve wondered that since I first saw the story. How can anybody be stupid enough to just accelerate and accelerate and not snap to just turn off the engine? Okay, at first somebody may be that rattled that it doesn’t occur to them but this guy had several minutes and was able to dial a phone. Clearly his panic hadn’t prevented him taking cogent action. I didn’t know he was bankrupt but “balloon boy” did cross my mind almost immediately.
I don’t base this on pure speculation either. I had a 1964 Impala when I was 18, and one of the motor mounts broke. The acceleration caused the engine to torque to the left and that caused the throttle cable to stretch, thus opening up the carburetor to full and out of control acceleration. It took me about two seconds to cut the engine.
I hope so demi! Make sure you wear the skirt and the hose. It worked for me!
Yes. The good thing about my being with them is even though I love her to pieces, I’m one step away, so I’m not as freaked out. I talked gently to her about the good times and yesterday I gave her a nice head and neck massage.
Now wouldn’t it be ironic, given that Mr. Bipartisan is following in the footsteps of the Decider, that should the Republicans regain Congress in 2010 they bring Obama up on charges of war crimes.
I don’t think those things have keys, it’s a button. But you are right, I called bullshit yesterday morning.
heh glad you liked the note.
A flute job eh? If you get it then you can have a flute of the bubbly!
I got my official offer letter yesterday demi. More money than the maximum range the job advertised with a tentative start date of the 29th. It’s good job karma weather. Good luck! Floutist.
But he did bring it to a stop in the end by cutting the engine, AFTER the cop he called told him to.
I was on a big dirt bike that was racing down a hill once when the engine stuck. I was heading toward a fence and panicked. I was down shifting and breaking and never thought of hitting the kill switch. As the fence was approaching, I finally just layed that sucker down. Ouch.
How do you turn off the engine?
I’m so happy for you! I’m thinking that because these people are musicians, creative types, maybe I’ll go with something a little more artsy-fartsy.
Bein’ a stick man and not having driven an automatic where I needed to do this but can you shift into neutral at high speed with one of those gawdawful console jobs.
Good morning. I just read your comment, and responded to it on that thread. Hopefully, in a helpful way. We all want the same results, SD, we’re just having a debate about tactics.
Read this,it’s great!
I always wanted to be a musician but sadly, that isn’t where my talent lies so I’m content doing science, my other great passion. For this reason I admire Wendy Carlos and others who can combine the two but I’m a lesser person than they.
Yeah, the stupid, antiquated civil justice system also insists on looking backward instead of forward, doesn’t it? I guess we can do away with ALL the courts now. So glad I got a law license.
wow! What an idea. then Obama could counter sue and perhaps they could all magically cancel each other out!
Hi ya, Matt. First I have to get the interview. But, yes, if I were to get the job, I’d buy a whole case and share it with all my firedog friends.
You can pronounce it either flou or flu. Flou is more of a European pronuncation.
so I guess some have keys and some don’t, not sure which this guy had but he is also the member of a Corvette club making his story even more unlikely.
It’d be typical.
Geez.
The story keeps getting thinner and thinner.
Just like a fuckin’ computer.
Answers my question as well.
LMAO! I hang out with a bunch of acoustic musicians and one day the conversation turned to the correct pronunciation of the word. I’ll take your word for it because in our group, the nearest thing we have is Boomer who blows a harp but not a flute.
Can’t say as I’d feel comfortable with a car that turns off by pressing the same button that turns the engine on.
Obama wouldn’t do anything because he always wants to look forward.
Pelosi is a national disgrace. Bush committed mass murder (invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, criminal neglect in 9/11/2001 and Hurricane Katrina), treason (complicity in outing Valerie Plame as CIA, murdered prisoners of war), violations of the Geneva Conventions on torture, stripped away habeas corpus, violated FISA and the 4th Amendment (to which he publicly admitted), stole to consecutive presidential elections and violated hundreds of campaign laws in the process, and a litany of other high crimes. Yet Pelosi allowed him to get away with it all and still moves to protect the fiend and his accomplices from prosecution.
At the very least Pelosi should be drummed out of office in a landslide. At most she should be in prison (alongside Bush & Co.) for aiding and abetting known criminals.
I studied with a man named Franklyn Stokes who was the bass clarinet player in the LA Philharmonic. His son is a world renowned flute player. He’s the one who told me that. So.
My 66 chevy truck stops just fine!
Obama has delayed his Asia trip by “at least 3 days.”
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Irak: 4,382

Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
Alright. The kids went into the other room, so I’ve watched the above clip. I don’t think she looks or acts like a deer in headlights. And, I don’t think she was talking out of both sides of her mouth. Sorry to disagree.
New post up top…
I have to get my day started too. Good luck demi! :-)
I have a friend who’s bought a flute of theirs last fall. Nice tone, wonderful action. Hope it works out for you.
These are nice.
Good luck!
How hard is it to put the car in neutral?
They can’t. Not without implicating themselves too. They all expect it to all blow over.
Why not jump off?
Hi SD. Did you see my note above at #57 informing you that I read your final comment on last night’s “Durbin, Reid Whipping Against Public Option” thread, and responded to it? I hope you will read it at #249, as well as my comments responding to RBG at 230,231, and 246. I would also hope that the others who came down on me so vehemently last night would read those comments. I’m pretty sure most or all of you were making mistaken assumptions about my position, and I’ve attempted to clarify it.
Going forward, we should all at least agree that we want the same results, but are only having a debate about the best tactics to achieve those results.
Thanks for posting this.
Pelosi’s body language wants to say “it is not me” while we all know perfectly well it was her job. Watch her hands while she is talking to see what I mean.
“What you can demonstrate and what you can prove” she too was involved.
“One of the great tragedies” is her way of saying she is not going to accept any personal responsibility.
You and I view things from a different perspective. I can live with that.
How many other little “Dingleberries” does the BlueTexan have stashed away?
I can live with it as well. But it still sucks to be misunderstood as the basis for disagreement and ad hominem attacks, so I do hope you read the comments I referenced on last night’s thread. I respect you enough that I took the time to respond to you.
I read them last night.
I rssponded directly to your note that you brought to my attention this morning upthread. It’s the final comment, #249. Not trying to persuade you to my POV, just to show that the gulf is a reasonable one. No one person has all the answers, least of all me. But I believe that a civil exchange of ideas is the best way to make progress.
I have read them all, including the one this morning.
Whew.
Thanks for clarifying things for us rubes Nancy.
For the first three decades of my life I thought there were actually three seperate branches of gumnit. Thanks for informing us you guys in Congress only work for the Preznit and have no say in what goes on in the country.
Thank you. Peace.
What a spectacular weasel Pelosi shows herself to be. Thank God I’m not a Democrat anymore.
Most galling was her, “The President has decided to move forward” as a way of washing her hands of her responsibility for bringing accountability to this mess. She’s only the Speaker of the House, nobody important, so of course she has to obey what the President dictates. I suppose if she were the leader of a co-equal branch of government, she’d feel differently.
And to say she doesn’t regret taking impeachment off the table because they didn’t have the facts — you have the investigation to DETERMINE the facts, especially when you have a secretive, evidence-destroying gang like Bushco.
Rachel Maddow has done a genuine public service.
Fuck.
The.
Democrats.
Actually, I don’t hold Pelosi responsible for this. Obama and Holder, yes. Pelosi no. Without WH and Justice support, hearings would go nowhere and then the Congress would look just as weak or worse. Lack of accountability is at the doorstep of Obama. We have all learned in the last year, that Obama is not capable of confrontation with anyone. All he wants to do is make pretend friends in the campfire circle with people that want his scalp.
I have been appalled that Obummer “The Changeling” has been able to get away with allowing the worst criminals to get away with all of this and I have written to these politicians, screaming to hold people accountable, including Pelosi.
I have given up on repubs and demoscabs all together and I am beginning to think that until the food runs out, these bastards will get away with anything and everything.
What a bunch of chumps the Americans are!!!!!
BT, I enjoy your analysis, wit, and depth of reporting everyday. But, I’m confused by the commenters who trail off into the weeds discussing their private lives and issues. Your commenters provide a great balance and support your articles but weaving through comments about their job interviews, and what they’ll wear to best make an impression, is not productive in getting to your ideas. Am I way off base on this? If so, I apologize for trespassing and will stand corrected.
Many thanks for your work.
This is a community of folks who have grown to know each other over the years. On threads such as Book Salon where we have guests we adhere to a strict no OT comments policy. Other threads, not so much. After 50 or so the comments may tend to veer off on tangents. We are supportive of Margaret and others in their quest for employment in the same manner as we’re supportive of those who are suffering from illness and we mourn those we’ve been associated with when they lose that battle. Caring about others is one of the reasons we’re here. We should not be confused with any other blog.
Thanks for your reply SouthernDragon, and, I am sure you are right about how most threads get off on tangents after a lot of comments. My comment was to point out exactly what you say Firedoglake should NOT be confused with and that it is a social blog. A large number of comments on this post should be on Facebook or, at least, in personal email accounts.
Again, I apologize to the commenters here at Blue Texan’s forum but I do admire her work a lot and felt way-off topic input to be condescending to her serious intent.
