I’ll just tell you this, if this passes and it’s five years from now and all that stuff gets implemented — I am leaving the country. I’ll go to Costa Rica.
As Lisa points out, it’s funny how when progressives talk about leaving the country if, say, Dubya gets re-elected, it’s because they’re Dirty Hippies Who Hate America, but when conservatives do it, it’s obviously because they’re Concerned Patriots Who Can’t Take Anymore. Because only a dirty hippie would ever suggest that Rush doesn’t love America with all his tiny, plaque-encrusted heart.
But here’s the problem for Rush: If he’s going to leave the U.S. because our health care system has become too socialist… where’s he gonna go? Not only does Costa Rica have socialized medicine, but the health care system of every single country above them on International Living’s Quality of Life Index is more socialist and universal than ours.
(Note: In an effort to facilitate Rush’s departure, I’ve been working my way down the Quality of Life index, trying to find the nicest possible country that has health care less socialized and universal than the Senate plan. I’ve researched almost 90 countries now, and so far the best matches I’ve been able to find for Rush are the ones which are too poor to fully fund their public health systems. But hey, if he wants to move to El Salvador, I’ll fill out the paperwork myself.)

On Countdown, Markos suggests Somalia — they love guns there, have no government run health care, no crippling government regulations, etc.
Oh yeah, Somalia would be a libertarian paradise. Or Afghanistan.
What, he can’t get his refills for vi@gra and penicillin in the Dominican Republic any more ?
I like Markos but he’s delusional if he thinks he can raise significant amounts of money to primary Kucinich.
I almost want to suggest Afghanistan but we’ve already inflicted so very much on the Irakis
Try cross-matching against sexual tourism destinations that specialize in child prostitution.
Kucinich is the closest thing to a liberal progressive in Congress and DKOS hates his guts and wants to get rid of him. So in reality, what kind of progressive is Markos? I’d say he isn’t. Just another fake celebrity in love with himself.
As for Rush? He’s nothing more than a mouthpiece making money. He doesn’t have to go anywhere. He has enough wealth to buy whatever he wants whenever he wants.
Is Rush a secret Lefty I mean the Obama plan sucks Costa Rica however.
http://www.internationalliving.com/Countries/Costa-Rica/Health-Care
Still why would Rush go there I thought he didn’t like Brown People? Unless of course he’s on Viagra.
Not all of DKos wants to get rid of Kucinich:

Whoa! You’re preaching to the choir there! I never claimed Markos was a progressive. In fact, I’ve generated more than a little ire at the Daily Kos by asserting that Markos is a partisan Democrat and NOT a progressive.
Not only does Costa Rica have socialized medicine, but…
damn man, did ya have to say that right out loud? shhhh….
It’s so much easier for us progressives to find a better country to live in…
Jeebus Crispies, I might move there.

Sorry Eli my 8 I did not even finish reading your post before I felt I had to mention that just like Sarah Rush wants better Socialism than Obama is giving.
That and he wants brown at discount prices.
Belize is nearby and they speak english.
Rush… Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)…!
Isn’t his house for sale? Shouldn’t be long now…
One thing’s for sure! If Rush Limbaugh leaves the US, he wants to do it on a cruise ship, because if he takes an airplane, he’ll have to pay for two seats or even three if you add his bloated ego on to his obesity!
Sorry if you took that the wrong way Margaret. Fake progressives like Markos destroy all credibility of REAL progressives and liberals and well…ticks me off ;-)
Understood and endorsed! Partisan Democrats are only better than Republicans in that they are a bit closer to reality.
I just feel sorry for the people of Costa Rica.

Rush will love the place.
Markos Moulitsas is a self-serving operator who has turned his web site into a money machine for himself. He is now a party hack, appearing on TV. The man’s views (as he is willing to publicly state them) on Dennis Kucinich are what the high-level operators running the Democratic Party from the White House want said on TV about Dennis Kucinich.
I gave up Markos and his web site shortly after the Dean For America epoch, when it became clear that Markos puts his own career ambitions well in front of any supposed values he holds.
Plus, his web site years ago became overrun with idiots. It rapidly became no pleasure at all to be there, reading posts where people were basically repeating slogans handed to them through the web site’s operators.
I haven’t loaded “Daily Kos” probably in 5 years at least.
Stupak is being a primary challenge.
WooHoo! Now that I would donate to.
Some of those people are probably DLC operatives. They don’t have anything else to do.
Please don’t send that gargantuan boil north to our lovely paradise, mmkay ?
Eli !
He meant he would go to Costa Rica for Haealth Care….like the 10′s of thousands of Americans who currently go there for Medical “Vacations” each year.
I think it’s funny to watch the sycophants hit the “recommend” button over and over on just the least little peep of a front page writer in the comments section. I mean, all one of them has to do is come into the comments and say “you all suck” and the next thing you know, there are 30 recommendations attached to the comment. Too funny!
Petro !
His house is for sale nobody sells in a down market like this unless they have too . Rush has people to manage his money renting even at less than the home payment for 5 years makes sense better sense.
Provided you don’t need cash now and unlike us Rush I’m sure got talked up by hedgefund managers playing Credit Default Swaps all the time.
To hook a whale like Rush Drugs, Strip Clubs trips to the Dominican Republic would all be normal. Remember than Bush Brother who caught that sex disease in Thailand. The guy does not speak Thai but he sleeps with some girls who just showed up at his room.
Thats how the big guys do business.
Anyway I think Rush is hurting financially now.
Me too, except my comment didn’t make sense, grammar-wise!
Rush wants to go to South America because he wants better Health Care than we will get with the Obama plan. Plus cheap drugs and boys.
Please not Afghanistan! They have enough to cope with. He would be much happier in a place with the kind of government he approves of…Israel, Pakistan, Hell.
Rush only *thinks* he would become a powerful warlord.
Don’t worry Rush would overdose in a second on real heroin and not his Oxy hillybilly heroin. Rush would also feed packs of endangered wolves for a month.
M’eh, no biggie for me. I just found out that when I named my cat three years ago, my grammar was wrong. I named her Neko Kuroi but the proper grammar would be Kuroneko. Oh well, she’s still my wonderful black cat. :-)
Rush would become a happy meal, anywhere but the United States.
What country would Rush want to go to considering his political views? Someplace White with no taxes on the rich, someplace with an open mind about drugs, with great healthcare because guys like Rush need it.
Someplace where he can get Brown, Women or Boys for hire the jury is out on that. Someplace without any Hate Speech Laws.
Is that Japanese for black cat? or maybe black beau Jus’ curious.ty?
Rush is actually 10,000 happy meals I used to make them.
ewwww…although I suppose the snow leopards could use a little something too.
Yep. Nihongo for black cat. But I’m just a student and not fluent yet, hence my grammatical error. Oh well, live and learn!
fuck Molasses!
I say we airlift him.
Okay. That should have been “happy feast” but that’s not as funny. :-)
Hopefully they won’t get Mad Cow disease.
Delusions of grandeur and still jonesing for his glory days as President Cheney’s mouthpiece.
Agreed :)
Not sure what Markos has ever had against Dennis; calling him Naderite misses the boat completely. Maybe he thinks there’s only room for one slight, high-voiced male operative in the Democratic party? Anyway, he’s never liked Dennis.
Sadlyyesoveyich !
and little Marcos self love/importance reminds me of little Rahm
my dearest Petrovonoviche!,ive missed you
*mwaah* … right backatcha !
Their animal instincts will steer them away from the most rancid parts.

Palm Beach island has extremely expensive homes….old Rushbo has THE most expensive home property on the island
he aint going nowhere
Mebbe he’s leaving Murkah and moving to Hawaii … CTuttle sure could use the company. *g*
Let it be Oahu…! Puh-lease…! ;-)
Oh, you’re here … *g*
I imagine Costa Rica is working on some “immigration reform” legislation RIGHT NOW!!!
PS – CT, did you feel the earthquake on the Big Island yesterday?
Tex Betsy needs some healing vibes now, Petro…! 8-(
Why, what happened to Betsy ?
Rush s compound
http://assets.nydailynews.com/img/2009/03/05/gal_limbaugh_home.jpg
How does he manage to fit his ego into that tiny little space?
Hands on screen sending healing vibes to (((Tex Betsy)))
Good Lard, I just watched the Countdown sequence about El Rushbo followed by Markos.
Gag! Markos was using that trick of not saying a persons name correctly; he kept saying “KOOcinich” when he knows perfectly well how to say it.
Cheap. And also poor arguments against Dennis.
A 5.0 earthquake centered in Hamakua… I didn’t even feel it here in Hilo town…! Supposedly, it was a strong enough quake to trigger the tsunami network…! I tell’s ya, We’ve got it nailed to a tee… Eh, bra…? *g*
I saw Markos in passing, gaged and decided to spend more time engaging his idiots @ kos.
yeah, I know – good riddance and all…
Markos acted like a petulant little spoiled brat. The segment was pathetic. Bad on Lawrence O’Donnell, etal for allowing it.
Here is the absolute reality of the situation: Most Democrats don’t want health insurance “reform” any more than Republicans do. They would have to give up too much in campaign donations but as long as they can keep the fake “debate” going, as long as there is the perception out there that this kind of legislation has a chance of happening, the insurance lobby will keep throwing gobs and gobs of cash at them. Then the Democrats can throw up their hands in fake defeat, the insurance companies will have purged their rolls of those unprofitable sick people, the Democrats and Republicans get to keep their campaign money plus the huge windfall from this fake “debate”, both from the insurance lobby and from delusional people who are giving to them under the belief that they are trying to reform the system. It’s a win-win. Oh, except for the American people but when did we start to count?
Flat! Yeah, we’ve raked Markos a bit already about that.
this is more fitting……………g
http://premodeconhist.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/3058628-moscow_the_red_square-moscow.jpg
What did you expect? It’s never been anything else!
(And there are a lot of people who would cheerfully throw any of us out of there, just for being here.)
You realize that it was a put down on Jane too.
Markos said, paraphrasing, that he found Kucinich and anybody like him who would vote against the bill reprehensible, and responsible for the 40k per year dead, and so forth.
Then gave the standard WH/OFA line about “yeah, needs work, better than nothing, we’ll make it better.”
Peg! *smooch*
I think the Naderite tag comes from TPM, and Kucinich’s expressed decision to vote against the health-insurance bill.
We named our first dog, a black chow, “Kuro.” My husband’s last name is “Schwartz,” and when he had some Japanese clients, they got a real laugh out of Mr. “Schwartz” having a dog named “Kuro.”
Of course, at some point the system collapses because the insurance companies will have lost too many subscribers… I suppose this doesn’t matter to the main actors in this drama, who will “retire” with gobs of money…
At 6:38 they were running the “crawl” at the bottom of the tv screen “alerting” us to an earthquake. Sheesh!
Yeah and trickle down theory works…. Don;t piss down my back and tell it’s raining. How lame is that? Markos, parroting WH talking points? Like I said, he’s just a partisan Democrat and about as progressive as any DLC member. Markos: The next Lanny Davis.
You realize that it was a put down on Jane too.
Yes, I understood that at the time. What’s up with this guy? Blogosphere gone to his head? He ain’t all that…
But SUSTAINABILITY and common sense waved bye-bye during the Bush era. Now it;s all about the next quarter and fuck the future. They learned nothing from the banks except that the tax payers can be forced to bail them out.
I’ll bet. :-)
yup………..little twerp
I liked Markos. I met him in Austin several years ago. If I’d known what he was going to turn into, I wouldn’t have bothered.
The WH is picking off all the A-list Big Boy Bloggers.
Aravosis thinks Geithner is the cats’e meow now, Markos is all, well himself. Josh Marshall has been in the bag for a while.
Atrios was a bit distant about that blogger/Geithner meeting, but still a bit powersmacked.
They’re quite satisfied for Jane to be “that awful Hamsher woman.”
Screw them.
edit: the THEY is the WH/PFA/DNC power structure. Beat sweets for the boys, bupkis for the girls.
Oh yeah. I got offered that job Kelly. Nothing official yet but the interviewer said yes and that the company would call me soon.
Since when is Aravosis anything but an A list asshole?
W00t!!!1!!!!1
Aravosis thinks Geithner is the cats’e meow
That pretty much sums it up for this guy. Anyone who thinks more highly of Geithner than something to be scraped off a shoe is a couple bubbles off the plumb…
This has certainly cut down the amount of time I spend on other blogs — so many now “disqualified” because of their deserting progressive ideals.
dont take much…huh?mediawhores
me too..meh orange satan is now dead to me
Aravosis was never progressive. Markos may have pretended to be at one time but Aravosis is an ex Log Cabin conservative Villager. Aravosis told me shortly after W was “elected” the first time that I was delusional for saying that he was going to start a war with Iraq, (This was before he was inaugurated). Aravosis would still be on W’s team if Rove hadn’t used teh “gay” as a wedge issue.
Sanders, Woolsey, Krugman and now Kos are deemed to be inadequate.
Is it possible that well informed progressives could in good faith conclude that accepting flawed incremental HCR is better than killng the bill?
Is it possible that well informed progressives could in good faith conclude that accepting flawed incremental HCR is better than killng the bill?
I’m too cynical to believe that they are serious with this attempt, much less that they would would then work to improve it in the unlikely event that it happens. This is welfare for the insurance companies and has nothing to do with actual health care. At least that the opinion of this well informed progressive.
Is it possible that well informed progressives could in good faith conclude that accepting flawed incremental HCR is better than killng the bill?
Of course that’s possible. However, such a position does not confer license to badmouth people like Kucinich, etal on national TV. I just can’t get my tiny little pea brain around that part.
Hard to say what HCR reform as written will look like 5 or 10 years out, but I do think it fair to say that it could have had a better start…
I don’t know if that’s the preferable approach, but I think it’s workable. From my perspective, the things that are good about the current health care bill could have been all done on their own – expanding Medicaid, fixing the Medicare “donut hole”, and, umm, I’m forgetting the other thing. Anyway, nothing that couldn’t have been done as separate bills. What needed to be done together were mandates, insurance reforms, and the subsidies. Other than that, most things were separate issues.
[edit: It appears I misunderstood the context of this question. If you mean "pass a crap bill now, fix it later" I think the answer to that question is no, I don't trust Congress and the President enough to do that.]
Is it possible for a well informed progressive to come to the conclusion that since the 4 named above have reversed their positions, that they aren’t operating in good faith?
The other thing is obviously the pre existing condition fix. Oh and the Limbaugh leaving the country thing.
No, pre-existing conditions wasn’t one of them, because there’s no means of enforcing that ban. Limbaugh leaving was a nice extra, but, like pre-existing conditions, no one’s going to enforce it.
I’ll think of it eventually, I suppose.
EDIT: Increasing Medicare tax withholding beyond $200K was it, I think.
I wish I’d said that. :-)
Limbaugh leaving was a nice extra, but, like pre-existing conditions, no one’s going to enforce it.
Yeah I wasn’t fooled into supporting this bill by either of those either.
Does Rush count as a pre-existing condition?
Well it’s bedtime in my corner of the world, though I imagine Mauimom is just getting started and flat might have another visit to the porch before bedtime. Goodnight pups. Oyasumi nasai koinu. :-)
Lisa Derrick is upstairs!
Late Night: Phelps and Free Speech
You know if anyone really wanted to get rid of Rush Limbaugh they could.
But the people who make money from him will protect him until the day he dies.
I outlined some methods to do this a while ago. I also outlined the questions to ask him that would make him squirm
By: spocko Friday October 30, 2009 1:28 pm From a FDL diary.
Here are my questions for Rush this Sunday on Fox.
When you came back from the Dominican Republic in July 2006 you were caught with a prescription bottle of Viagra with one pill missing. You said it was yours but filled under the name of Steven Strumwasser, your drug treatment doctor, to protect your privacy. Smoking Gun Link
* While in the DR did you have oral, vaginal or anal sex with one or more people?
* What were the ages and genders of these people?
* Did you pay the people or did someone pay these people for you?
* Did you use some sort of barrier protection during your sex act(s)?
* Do you remember the names of the people you were involved with?
* Have you been in contact with any of these people since that time?
Please answer the above questions as if you are under oath. I say this because I know the answers to all the above questions and I will expect you to answer them honestly. Because, as you know, in American we don’t care about the sex we care about the lying.
The reason that I ask these questions is that as one of the leaders of the conservative movement your behavior is important. When people listen to you and agree with your views they have a right to know what kind of person you really are.
Just as we have moved on regarding Michael Vick, since he has great talents, I believe that the people will move on when they find out what you did in the DR and with whom you did it. Your sex life is important to the American public. We don’t care about it on the left, but the people on the right have shown time and time again that the sex life of entertainers and politicians is important and worthy of coverage.

To defeat Rush you don’t look at what he says, you look at what he does. And what he does that is illegal. You don’t just look at what he does in the US you look at what he does in other countries.
You don’t look at what he says about taxes you look at this finances to see where he lied about his income or dodged taxes illegally.
I would hire 1 private detective. 1 tax attorney and one savvy computer researcher. Together we could provide enough damning information that could be used to put Rush in jail. I would also work to find out the information about the people AROUND Rush which I would not use, but I would let people know I had it. This is done so that they won’t spend a lot of time standing up for Rush but running away from him in his time of need. Make Rush pay for his defense, he is not beloved, he’s a cash cow, and when he stops providing the CASH they will want to walk away.
Given their long term commitment to progressive causes, I do not think so.
It is possible that they are wrong.
Night Peg!
No porch for me, I’m in San Diego at this damn hotel. Working on a powerpoint for tomorrow simultaneously.
I’ve always found it ironic that he avoided the draft by having a boil on his ass. He’s always been such a boil on ours.
Goodnight, Margaret. Great news about the job, BTW.
Commitments should be to principles.
If one changes ones vote based on winning rather than principle, neither does one win, nor is one’s principle or commitment upheld.
I was toying with “Don’t Let The Door Hit You On The Cyst On The Way Out” as a possible title for this post…
Rush should consider moving to Somalia, a conservative/libertarian utopia. No unions, weak central government and totally unregulated markets.
a) I can’t remember: is there a “fix” in either bill that eliminated pre-existing conditions; and
b) isn’t the belief that insurance companies will just comb policies for the slightest “irregularity” and charge “fraud” as a way to enforce what used to be called “pre-existing conditions”?
Finally, can someone point me to a link — perhaps of something by Jon or Marcy — that’s chapter & verse on how bad the Senate bill [that the House is being asked to pass] is?
I’m getting flamed over on HuffPo for my comments about how the Senate bill sucks, and would like to add a link to my home-grown claims/analysis.
Yup, sun is just setting. Quite lovely tonight.
Nice “talking” to you, Margaret.
I would date it back to 1973, the year in which the elites decided to create the neoliberal world economy…
Way late to the thread Eli, but that’s a classic, Dan Hicks And His Hot Licks-
“. . . . but you won’t listen, you only stay and stay,
how can I miss you if you won’t go away.”
*G*
Are you really that old?
Cuz you have GREAT musical taste!!! *G*
Mauimom –
My best understanding of this is in the penalties. Take a look at the penalties that will be assessed to insurance companies for not paying off claims. Can you find anything there that will really deter them from denying claims?
Unfortunately, it’s full of dark-skinned people who won’t bend over and grab their ankles for him.
I don’t like this article… in fact I hate it.
What is with your weak position here??? WHY when a dangerous, psychotic drug addicted sadistic FREAK like Limbaugh who gets wayyyy to much press by the liberal side- flaps his fat gums about how much he hates America (again) WHY you must whine about the “double standard” between conservative and liberal??????????? There is no such thing unless you put it there. By asking this question, you are conceding that they are right about everything. You are the reason such a double standard exists because you created it.
I do not whine when I hear this guy groan. Nobody should. He’s a freak, a traitor, a racist, a fascist, a sociopath, and a terrorist. These are the only words that I speak. I STAY ON MESSAGE. I do not whine about the rules of the dirty game of politics.
He’s just another right wing liar who does what they all do every day, they complain and complain and complain and complain and complain that America isn’t good enough for them. They can LEAVE.
Take a stand, call this man out for what he is. SET the rules of the game if you don’t like them. Stay on message. Never ask why.
