Imagine, if you will, young Muslim men rampaging through an American community exposing people who act in what they view as a sexually licentious manner. Imagine that these young Muslim men acted as a paramilitary organization, terrorizing an entire city by protesting sexually promiscuous gatherings, photographing and publishing license plate numbers, workplace addresses and home locations. Getting people fired from their jobs and blacklisted for hire anywhere else in town.
Imagine these Muslim warriors created a map of the community, identifying as unholy other religions’ houses of worship, other faith centers, as well as locations where sexual immorality is practiced, in their view. And that they called this map their Spiritual Warfare Map, and they required their members to ‘witness’ the activities therein by actual physical protest.
environmentalists, breast cancer events that do not highlight abortion, Halloween, “spring break events,” and pornography shops
Imagine if these young Muslim men organized themselves into a group called Army of God. Or, if you will, Repent Infidels!
Imagine if this Muslim group had called for the boycott of their state’s largest city because a lesbian had been elected Mayor.
Shouldn’t authorities be worried if an American city had operating in it an Army of God whose call to ‘spiritual warfare’ begins like this:
I am a soldier in the army of my God. The Lord Jesus Christ is my Commanding Officer. The Holy Bible is my code of conduct. Faith, Prayer, and the Word are my weapons of warfare. I have been taught by the Holy Spirit, trained by experience, tried by adversity, and tested by fire. I am a volunteer in this army, and I am enlisted for eternity. I will either retire in this army at the Rapture or I will die in this army.
Oh — it’s okay for Christians to call themselves the “Special Forces of spiritual warfare?” It’s okay for Christian evangelicals to behave radically in the service of their faith, but not Muslims? We are happy to have Christians imposing their values through threats, violence, exposure at the workplace, and blacklisting? But not Muslims?
Armies of God are not the American way, unless this country has become a theocracy. We have one Army, the United States Army. And our Army fights for America, not for any single God.
This is the American Taliban, the American Hezbollah, the American Sharia enforcers. They seek to impose their religion’s strict codes on all their countrymen. They are not exercising free speech; they are imposing religious views upon others, through harassment, intimidation, threats of violence, and what they call ‘warfare.’
This is religious-based terrorism.
If our nation is now a theocracy and permits rampaging bands of thugs because they adhere to one religion but not another, we’re in big trouble. Because that doesn’t sound like the America I love.

About Firedoglake
teddy!
it sure as hell ain’t the america i was taught about in grade school. do ya remember that — the america that had separation of church and state?
It is so sad. That these sorry souls so desperately need the evil other to justify their own existence.
Not exactly new, from the beginning the KKK and other domestic terrorist groups have portrayed themselves as God’s messengers.
Does the U.S. have a double standard regarding Christianity vs every other religion? You betcha.
Why would God need an army?
Teddy!
Sad but true – there’s going to be more of this. And it needs SERIOUS pushback.
Teddy!
And some folks thought it was hyperbole when I called them Talibangelicals. I was not kidding. They are at least as dangerous as the Taliban.
Great read Teddy P, thanks for all the work you do, and extra big thanks for this one.
Between the corporate facism and the religious right army we’re all under siege.
Teddy!
“Amen,” she adds agnostically
I’m looking madly for a link I read earlier; gist is the guy who is the head of this execrable outfit also has a Q clearance since he works at a nuke provider.
God is omnipotent and omniscient but for some reason can’t use those superpowers to avoid conflict. It makes perfect sense when you don’t think about it.
Ah, yes, here we are again, with weaponized Jesus.
It’s a very disturbing trend, the militarization of religious fanaticism in America. For all the invocations of the Muslim world in this web log entry tonight as some sort of militant fanatical universe, let’s remember that Christianity and Judaism both occurred before 600 AD and they were the original monotheistic religious fanatics …
If these people are left unmolested to carry out their mission, then they will be emboldened to escalate the campaign further and further. There needs to be resistance of these groups and payback in kind for their callous disregard of people who are in no way harming them.
As several people have observed elsewhere in the past week, if a bunch of white Christians from middle America had flown a plane into the World Trade Center, it would have been just some “lone wolves” and not worth more than a couple of days’ coverage.
“And it needs SERIOUS pushback.”
I’m with ya on that as long as I don’t have to go to Amarillo.
PS: I once hitchhiked from Arizona to Pennsylvania. Guess where I got picked up by a gay guy?
Funny how they seem to have missed that whole line about “our wars are not of this world, but of the next.”
Depending on the casualty count it might have received more attention but their kooky religion would not have been blamed.
Here it is; Plutonium Page covered the nuclear aspect I mentioned.
Security. Or was.
I’ve sometimes pondered the commonly held assumption that God is omniscient. Omniscience would preclude the ability to be surprised, without the element of surprise I suspect even a deity would go stark raving mad from boredom after a millennium or two.
I think that is what you might call a bit of a security issue.
I gave up pondering, or caring, about God (if there is any such thing) about 45 years ago.
Indeedy.
See here’s the thing. A lot of people won’t notice or care if these Amarillo types beat up, or even kill some gay folks. But the deal is, they don’t mind killing YOU if you’re not one of THEM!
This is Left Behind territory, and they’re acting like it without the “benefit” of the rapture.
IOKIYAC.
Hi eCAHN – not tracking; what’s the “C”?
Yeah, but they are not restricting themselves to bedevilling the gay folks. they have also target the swingers and other upstanding, probably Republican, citizens. The Rabbi Yeshua has gone into permanent seclusion over the horrors his “followers” have perpetrated.
Gee, even I figured that one out.
Sadly true. Where are the lions when you need them?
In addition to other fringe groups… such as women.
All this arising, and the Prez trying to stay out of trouble and avoid a JFK.
Right – the bedevilment doesn’t stop until they kill. And they WILL kill, and it won’t matter to them WHO it is that they kill.
*gentle reminder re fantasy violence*
Duh – now I did.
My more fundamental Q is: WTF are these ‘tough’ guys worried about? For example, they demonize gays. Now let’s pick a group that, as a group, has never threatened or done harm to anyone. Gays are probably the only group you could find with that record. Yep, gays are really really scary. The AOG must piss in their pants whenever they encounter gays. Total fearful chickens. Dangerous ones too.
‘Christian’
You are absolutely correct. These asshats (the radical Xtianists, the white supremacists, the “patriots” & militias, and all the other assorted rightwing whackjobs) are the real threat to America, not Islamic extremists. The latter will leave us alone if we refrain from invading their countries for no good reason and do not support the slaughter of innocents in Palestine.
when you are aggressively suppressing your own homosexual urges, gays are VERY threatening.
And it’s not as if sexual promiscuity is unique to 21st C U.S. Hard to find a society without it. Sexual promiscuity is a normal part of the human condition, which is not much removed from the close human relatives, the chimps. Oh, silly me. Evolution is also scary for these chickens.
Fuckin a bro fuckin a… This is surely not the nation I served years ago.. WTF is the divide between church and State gone or something?? since when does one Brand of Religion hold sway over all other brands of Religion??.. Damn We must stop this nonsence!! For if we don’t our grand kids Are doomed… if not sooner..
“And our Army fights for America, not for any single God”
Not according to Major General Smedley Butler, they’re not,
Yeah, he’s been a security guard at a nuke plant for more than twenty years, it’s terrifying.
Why hasn’t our Department of Justice stepped in to stop this insanity?
(Sorry I’m late, was over at Lisa’s for the Oscar liveblogging and lost track of time with her guests. Worst Oscars EVER, fun liveblogging tho!)
You are not playing fair. I’m talking about threats that are effectively thwarted by violence. In the case you cite, a threat to latency, violence probably inflames the condition.
All religious fanatics are insane. I only selected Muslims to make the contrast easier to understand in the current environment. But you are right.
I’m a little too tired to deconstruct that statement rationally but something doesn’t seem right. Heterosexuals haven’t harmed anyone as a group either. As individuals, certainly, or in bands. No action by any individual or collection of individuals is representative of the entirety of heterosexual humans. It is too large a group to categorize.
I saw very few Oscar nominees this year, so didn’t bother. Did look at the haute couture horror show at msnbc.
Chimps are pikers. Our other cousins, the bonobos, come much closer. The reality is that humans are the “sexy ape.” We like to have sex, a lot, and are not real particular about with whom or what. Social (basically promiscuous and indiscriminate) sexuality is hardwired into the species (though we are capable of at least limited monogamy). Male orgasm in humans is much more intense than in most other mammals and female orgasm is uniquely human.
Teddy, today is Iraq’s veritable Oscar night and the sectarians lost out to the seculars…! Sanity returns seemingly…! I posted a diary about it…! ;-)
Since the majority of humans are hetero, one can name countless groups dominated by heteros who perpetrate violence. Homosexuals, none that I’m aware of.
I did not say these people were either rational or intelligent.
The majority of humans are best described as “flexible.”
Yes. The pushback is really, really important.
Or else this will spread through our culture even further.
Myth of Monogomy. But what I really want to know is how you know that
If it doesn’t walk, act, minister, love, and talk like Jesus, it isn’t Christian. No matter how many crosses or fish symbols it may surround itself with. The “christians” in America today, are for the most part – not. These are them that Jesus warns in Matthew 7:23 “I never knew you; go away from me, you evildoers.”
Link?
They demonstrate at breast cancer events if Abortion is not on the menu, since, you know, women who abort their precious babies get breast cancer. Even though there is no scientific link.
Time for me to type what my wingnut son once said: What does Christianity have to do with Christ anyhow?
These rebiblicans need to be watched very closely. They are showing alot now. It’s their 7 mountain thing. They are psyco. I wont even do a job for any of them even in my small community. Would not want one even for dogcatcher.
Teddy, the veneer of civilization is slipping a bit here, and the monstrous is showing.
Exactly. They seemed to have lost the shepard and are out crusading on their own.
I’d mention Sparta or the other city states of Ancient Greece but I suppose they were bisexual.
Anyway, my point is that I don’t think the sexual orientation of the oppressors is a significant factor. It’s all about power and control. The people who possess it almost invariably use it to the detriment of those less powerful.
Not right off hand, but based on about 10 years of professional research on the topic. You might try Kinsey as a starter. He is a bit weird personally, but nobody has really refuted his work. Wilcomb Washbourne, a pioneering anthropological primatologist, characterized primate sexuality generally as “not merely promiscuous, but positively indiscriminate.” Human sexuality is not strongly directed, but can be shaped by cultural forces in a variety of ways. The available evidence indicates that most of us are neither gay nor straight (and that is only a small part of the variability), though most of us are more inclined toward heterosexual relations. However, under the proper circumstances, even melons or carrots can look attractive.
congrats, a rational wingnut.
They hate science and actual facts.
A very good question indeed. Most of them are actually Paulists.
Hi K
As is most of the Middle East, where homosexual prostitutes traditionally were common.
Isn’t that typical of Christians throughout a lot of history? In fact, funny that you should use the word crusade. Almost finished reading Destiny Disrupted, a history of the world thru Muslim POV. Book points out that from the Muslim POV, they were swatting crusader flies, but the crusaders acted with slaughtering horror when they conquered Muslim territory.
I’d be interested what these proper circumstances may be? Under some ‘proper’ circumstances man will turn into a cannibal.
Only on the rare occassion. But those are worth their weight.
Is there such a beast…? Akin to being a tad bit pregnant, per chance…? ;-)
Actually typical of most or all “world religions,” even buddhists (strong tradition of warrior monks and then there is the Shaolin led attempted overthrow of the emperor).
That too. History is a funny thing, especially when you are American and know nothing about it.
Let me just say that I have known a few folks who have been intimate with members of the vegetable kingdom on occasion.
These clowns are largely a bunch of flaccid disaffected losers that imagine themselves some sort of latter day Jesus-cum-Rambo. They are more hot air than action. However, they do bear watching. If their rhetoric is ever backed up with anything other than balloon juice, then they need to be stomped on. I would think even words which could be taken as incitement to violence would be fodder for intervention.
That they could even fathom Christians using vigilante violence to further their cause kind of excludes them as Christians. They are simply thugs.
HAHAHAHAHA!
Hint; doesn’t take roofies to get the job done, mate!
Humans are actually capable of true monogamy, but it is not “natural”. Even so-called monogamous species, like swans and penguins, will occasionally engage in opportunistic infidelity (based on genetic and observational studies).
gold’s going up’n up, lucky you.
Would make a good PhD thesis to compare violence among religions. Think that atheists might be another group, that as a group, never did violence to any other groups. But ratfood’s point is well taken. Homosexuals and atheists have never had enough power to do harm, so I suppose my examples are silly.
Had a friend who, as an adolescent, had a passionate “one nighter” with a hot watermelon.
If he’s gettin’ rich, he ain’t sharin’.
For those who aren’t watching, Bigelow won best Director and Hurt Locker Best Picture.
Hope it was vodka injected, at least.
Josef Stalin and Vladimir Lenin? Chairman Mao? (and I am a socialist).
What swan could resist an opportunity to get down with a penguin?
And what of falafels, Doctor…?
;>)
He was underage at the time, so I doubt it.
That kind of thing happens as well (seals with penguins actually reported).
Now you are getting perverse.
Seriously though, I’m quite worried.
I’ve taken some physical beatings/bashings over the years, seems to work out to 1 every 9-10 years. The last was in the late ’90s.
And now, since the whole fabric of our discourse even says torture may be ok, I’m more worried than ever before.
Perhaps I’m just missing my partner, as I haven’t seen him for over a week, but yesterday when I was shaving, I caught a good look at the scar over my right eye, from a numchuk, and my old rib injury hurt and I burst into tears.
“getting?”
Be strong, Kelly.
(KELLY)
Take care of yourself, bro. I already lost one friend that way and I do not want to lose another.
(((kelly)))
I am very broad minded, but even I have limits.
Moi,good sir?
…Well!
;>)
I must say you have perfectly captured the Republican zeitgeist there.
Teddy, Elliott, I’d argue that our army now fights for the corporate/facist oligarchy, not for any pretense of defending our country, its citizens, or ever right and wrong. Our armies fight for the profit of the few.
They lay a hand on you or anyone else around me, Kelly…and they’ll be going home in a pail. I don’t like bullies.
;>)
Got me. I’ll never type that again. My only defense is they didn’t do their violence in defense of atheism but rather in promotion of some other, religious substitute, ideal. But I quibble.
I wish I could say it will get better. I imagine a world in which no man, woman or child has to fear being physically assaulted but I’m afraid violence will always be with us.
It will be fascinating to learn how local law enforcement responds to this heightened publicity (not just here at FDL; this story is getting around) to the taliban in their midst. I would also like to know why the US Department of Justice doesn’t think it’s their business to protect the citizens of Amarillo, be they swingers or pro-choice activists or environmentalists, from this kind of harassment, threats, and violence.
You think that’d work as excuse to my better half…? ;-)
Our army has always fought for the corporate oligarchy. A quick review of our military interventions over the past couple of centuries easily reveals that sad fact.
Thank you. I try.
;>)
‘evenin’, all-
The fact that a group like this is officially tolerated is the scariest part of all, because these people are not kidding.
I AM strong!
I am more out, loud and proud than ever. But experience tells me, “Watch out, the shit is heating up again.”
I am not surpised that it took the threatening of male sexual freedom for them to finally notice the Army of
God but feminists have been dealing with, fighting with, and attempting to educate about our homegrown american religious thugs for a long time and we have been ignored and made fun of for doing it. Even as I went to write this comment, I see in the sidebar “Feminists must get over their obsession with abortion.” We are not obsessed with abortion we are asserting our reproductive rights. If men were in this situation they would be taking up arms. I have been arrested for resisting the invasions of these men into women’s clinics.
I realize most of the firedoglake crowd is prochoice but too many are not really clear on reproductive rights and history. That debate is still going on here and too many feeling it should just take a back seat as ever. Why is there no conscience exemption for anything about federal spending except abortion? Hows that equal protection under the law?
There’s real outrage and fear in Teddy Partridges article but did it take the threatening of male sexual freedom to bring that outrage out?
My favorite philosopher is Rodney King.
Hang in there Kelly.
We all pray to the nonexistent god for that day.
What suggestions do any have as to how to undo these people and eradicate their vicious ideology? They are Klan offshoots and impersonators. We haven’t done much of a job so far.
Not a prayer in hell, bro. Don’t even think about it. As I tell my intro students, culture allows us to overcome even the most powerful instincts. Keep up the overcoming.
Local law enforcement in the places they are public are often sympathetic, if not among them.
Respectfully, you’re not quite right about this here at FDL.
There were huge efforts for phonebanking and such prior to the Stupak amendment passing in the house.
Particularly for myself, I’m on record saying that women’s rights presage how gay rights all work out, and that they are inextricably wound.
The wingnuts I’ve talked to are afraid…or a lot of things: of being in any situation where they might not be “king of the mountain.” Of being mounted. Of not being the ones in total control. Shit yeah they’re scared of gays.
They don’t like reversing Don’t ask don’t tell. When I point out women get raped by heterosexual soldiers, they shrug. As if, so? women get raped. Men, on the other hand…
*heh* I’ll take that as a ‘no’…! ;-)
Yeah, welcome. I think you’ll find this is a rather pro-feminist, pro-choice, pro-woman kind of place. This isn’t my first time at the American Taliban rodeo. But I hope you’ll agree that new allies, however found, are to be welcomed.
(And I looked at the diary in the sidebar you referenced. Have you read it? I think you misrepresented both its thesis and its title.)
Believe I will call it a night. Peace and tranquil dreams to all.
Thanks.
I am a woman, living in Manhattan, who has never felt physically threatened. But that is me. Few women are in my category. And strong women experience their own wacked out male relations, of which I’ve had one.
As for job discrimination, though, don’t get me started.
Fixed.
;)
But very true, Margot – their sense of sexual self is quite tenuous.
Dr. Dick, with a Ph.D in the study of the human existence, and a teacher of same (required to be updated continually) for decades and yer callin him for linky??
Srsly?
Nighters.
Nighty night RF~
And I’m supposed to devine this out of a sealed envelope?
Not a problem. You should be skeptical even of the experts as we are more than occasionally wrong and should be called upon to back up our statement. Unfortunately, at 10:00pm on Sunday evening after a bottle of fine Argentine Malbec, I ain’t up to the citations.
Wingnuts, in my experience, are afraid of their own shadows.
Hosting Ludwig on King of the Mountain on April 11. Please join. He’s charming & has a sense of humor. Should be a good one.
I still can’t figure out all this hip language . . . . is there a difference between a falafel and a loofah?
No more vasectomies and no more erectile dysfunction meds.
or electile dysfunction for that matter.
Don’t try to eat the loofah or wash with the falafel.
thanks DB. :-}
yep. And you and I are using our names.
(I almost didn’t hit the comment button.)
Yes… Just like Karnak…! ;-)
Don’t let ‘em put the squeeze on.
;>)
I certainly will, thanks for reminding me.
Bleeeeek!
Thanks.
My clicky friend, I wish for it never again for you and that the perps got their just dues in their time.
Sometimes words fail me . . . thinking healing thoughts.
I think it’s time.
Anonymity is/can be fun, and sometimes really necessary.
But in my opinion, now it’s time to be out, and who you are, and say forcefully what is wrong, and what you believe.
I am standing right beside you.
I thought one purpose of FDL was education. I know a lot, but far less than there is to know. I am not embarrassed to ask when I don’t. My probing often seems to sound sarcastic (or so I’ve gathered) but I mean it as a genuine request for resources to learn.
The Great Karnak…!
It probably takes a while for the DOE to get around to asking the DOJ to do whatever it has to do in such cases. Or at least it takes a while for the DOJ to notice that there’s a request to do something constructive.
It’s alright Mary, they used condiments.
;>)
Yeh, I know . . . . but thanks for reinforcing the point . . . I’m seeing more and more newbies here at FDL finally voicing concerns regarding corporate oligarcy and erosion of quality of life for we that people. And more comments at other sites regarding this apparent ‘new found awareness’ . . . . the tide’s rising as the injustices rise.
Not a good sign for empire.
I respect your decision, though some of us need to maintain a semblance of a veil for various reasons. Not that I try very hard (click the facebook link and my true self is revealed to the world). I think it is important as a teacher to keep my overtly political views separate from what I teach (though my politics inevitably affects what I teach and how I teach it).
There is corporate socialism in the US, according to the Globe, it’s the NFL.
Works kinda the opposite of NCLB.
I for one have never had that sense. See mine at 123.
Me too! Me too!
You mean this is a liberal blog?
Yea! You too Teddyman.
As Norske might sat. “Citizen Brother Kelly . . ”
I also believe the tide is rising of those like me and PUPS who just won’t tolerate the old ways anymore . . . I don’t promise full protection, but I’ll damn well go out on a limb and say that LGBT’s, poor, weak, ill, crippled, old and women in general have more folks ready to defend them when possible than ever before in this country.
Bless ya.
Yeah, socialism is only evil when it benefits average working people.
Our Department of Justice was profoundly but I hope not irretrievably broken during Bush. It’ll be a long road back, but something high caliber and public like this would go a long way to repair of the institution. Of course, that presumes there aren’t Regent left-behinds to spike any such effort.
And there are.
There is one amusing time…
I was living in Santa Fe in ’92. I was at the ATM just off the corner of the Plaza, withdrawing some cash. (I was leaving the 423 bar on Water street and figure I was followed by this punk.)
Anyhoo, in the middle of the transaction I get this poke in the back and a “Give me your cash and your card, bro”
I could see in the reflection of the ATM camera’s glass that there was this kid behind me. So I said “OK, it’ll spit out the cash in a second.”
And then when it did, I took the cash with my right hand, and then elbowed the little bastard with my right. Grabbed him by the hair, and smacked him into the ATM!
Put his arm behind his back and marched him to the ever present cop on the Plaza and invited the cop to look at the ATM camera film. Turned out the kid was cousin to the cop.
I went back to the 423 in the cop car, and couldn’t BUY a drink the rest of the night!
Thanks. I needed that.
Yeah and a lot of my students are conservatives. While none of them has any illusions about my political positions, I do not want to create a hostile environment for them (I actually have a reputation for being respectful in this regard in the classroom).
Anybody seen Peggy?
LOL! You go!
I think that is very important.
The mountains high, it’s steep, and the perils of all civil rights are a significant burden and being assaulted by many.
In the broad scheme of things, we’re all in the same foxhole fighting for the same things.
I’m sorry you feel women’s rights have been sleighted . . . . for ANY one woman to feel that is just not right, NO woman should feel that . . . . women, and all humans deserve so much better regarding feeling safe in life.
Until every woman feels safe, the battle must wage on by us all. Same for all others.
We hope, and we fight on, together.
Saw that, and appreciate it. Not universal here, though. Some have tried to demonize those of us who ask Qs about Halter. Just sayin’. And not stopping asking. *g*
Eventually, everyone loses their anonymity…Unless they truncate the activities that require the nom de guerre and fade to black gracefully.
Even then, there’s no guarantee that some snoop can’t unlock the mystery eventually.
For some things one needs to be more than lit pixels on a screen, I suppose.
;>)
Concern troll, it would appear. anybody who doesn’t know that this is a feminist blog is not paying attention. We just have a bit broader set of issues that we address as well.
My attitude is here and in the classroom, if I cannot support and back up what I say then you are right to question my authority.
I guess you weren’t around when Dr. Tiller was murdered.
Great question(s).
1) Deny their validity, in any way possible.
2) Insist your elected reps defend right from wrong.
It’s getting harder to do this as our country has slipped fully into a corporate oligarchy which promotes and supports racist, misogynist and homophobic behaviors and attitudes and actions.
Even our Supreme Court, along with our Congressional Reps, The WH, and State Legislatures have slipped into the realms of promoting and supporting these evils.
But on the other hand, never have so many been so united and communicating with each other about it all, either. That’s a good thing.
One of the things I tell my 10th grade World History students is,”I have no reason to lie to you. The truth is quite weird enough.”
Weirder than they can imagine. Much more uncomfortable as well. Had the experience this semester of a student who went off on some of the readings early in the semester on theories of race. I told him that this was not simply the opinions of the writers, but the result of more than 50 years of research on the topic and he needed to engage the material presented even if it made him uncomfortable. He is actually turning out to be a pretty good student.
Hosses and hossette’s riding tall in the saddle, side by side.
That was lovely Kelly, bless ya again.
So I know in the future, can you link to your academic website?
Teddy, are any of the individuals who lost their jobs filing suits?
Seems like one for the ACLU.
Isn’t that the truth!
No, you just cut him slack cuz he’s decently educated, you know him well enough and he’s been sharing his shit for long enough to CUT him the slack.
Which, you DID, as I continued reading thru your comments and his back and forth with each other.
Life is good . . . it was that one comment that jolted me a bit . . ;-)
This is me.
;-) Me, I’d cut you the slack anytime at this point . . .
Course, Echan, too, she’s proven HER mettle time and time again . . . some folks I just don’t question too much, less I disagree and need details . . *G*
Lotta sharp people in this place . . *G*
Is the ACLU even permitted to operate in Texas?
‘My motives are honest.’ *g* My language has often been misinterpreted. (Haven’t figured out how to prevent that yet. May not be possible in this format.) All is kewl.
Perfect. Thanks.
Sometime I’d like your opinion/stories about Heyókȟa
OK, time for me to toddle off. Way past my bedtime and the corrupting continues tomorrow. Thank dog tomorrow is all videos so I do not have to be coherent. I do have to be awake, however. Take care all.
You should always question me. I have recently had an epiphany on economics matters which has changed me considerably. Will write it up as a diary, but have to do a lot more work before then.
He can, but apparently he just loves conflict and violence. Actually, the God some Christian groups believe in is a pretty scary dude. I have always wondered what it would be like to grow up believing in an omnipotent and omniscient being that scary in his view toward and plans for mankind. No wonder some of these people are so warped.
True. There’s no doubt an ACLU posse.
Night Dr.D.
Nighters, dd.
NOT transgender (the Lakota male-bodied transgender is the winkte), though they are an alternative male gender role (more in common with berserkers than Brazilian travesti, who are transgender).
And I thought the YOUNG kids had wierd languaging . . . ;-)
*G*
How’s life in the isles . . .
Happy corruption tomorrow, Doc!
Aside from of what I interpret as probing sarcasm at times, you’ve schooled me on econ issues I never dreamt existed, and your stories of Wall Street elaborate and clarify much of what I’ve read or heard.
YOU, are a priceless commodity as a human here at The Lake.
I guess, it was just time for me to say that. ;-)
As I used to say around the backpacking campfire, after a good meal prepared by others.
“Salt and pepper to the kitchen! My condiments to the chef!”
God doesn’t need no stinkin’ scientific links! Next thing you know, you’ll be telling us Katrina and Haiti had nothing to do with religious sin and expecting us to believe that! Scientific evidence, indeed!
WTF is wrong with Texas? They take CSS (Crazy Southerner Syndrome) to new levels there.
Mary MAC!!!! Define liberal . . . /s
You home? Check the mail? Huh? Huh?
Appreciate it Larue.
Many precious peeps here at the Lake. What I love so much about it.
Hey, my good librul friend in Houston, involved in grass roots politics, deserves some respect. They are making headway there.
I love a good story and as much as I advocate and profess self defense and fighting back, I know sometimes yer just either outgunned or outnumbered or outclassed in size and ferocity. Having said that, you fight for your life in most instances when you DO have to fight.
In the case of your story, nice work, hoss . . . a cousin of the cop . . . geez. There’s always the old Billy Jack shit to deal with in some towns isn’t there . . . sigh.
I’m so sorry to hear that. Trauma heals to an extent but odd things can bring back the pain. Humans can be really cruel. How sad that some of the cruelest do it in the name of a guy who wandered around like a hippy telling everyone to love one another.

Didn’t get to read through the comments, forgive if I’m repeating things. Two things:
1) Think Progress is wrong. The equivalent name for ‘Army of God’ is Jundallah. Hezbollah is ‘Party of God’.
2) ‘Army of God’ is also how Eric Rudolph signed all his notes for his bombings in Atlanta and Birmingham. That any group whatsoever would use that moniker and glorify him is more than disgusting.
No offense to Texans (my great-grandpa was an itinerant stonemason whose work is in their state capitol) but I think the mindset has something to do with being their own country, if only for a short time. Unlike every other state (except California, which has its own uniqueness issues) being your own country implies, somehow, that they chose to join up.
I had a boss detained once in Texas for many weeks, incommunicado, for what turned out to be one joint on a hitchhiker he picked up. I will not set foot in the state. It’s frightening. But I have a great deal of respect for the progressives who live there.
Oh, and 200!

Women’s rights have been “granted” more than they have been accepted as natural fact, unfortunately. I think that is getting better with younger generations, but unfortunately many of the youth don’t equate abortion access to women’s rights. They think they won’t want or need one, and since ultrasounds became common, many have come to think of the issue differently, so it isn’t that big a deal to them until it is too late. They are ripe for arguments that abortion rights are not being denied, it’s just that abortions are not being paid for. They don’t have the history to recognize that the Catholic Bishops’ goal is to take away all birth control and family planning and that making them more powerful is a bad slope to take a step on. Kind of like so many don’t seem to get that the health insurance companies want all of our money so mandating insurance without any other options and making them more powerful is a bad slope to take a step on.
What astonishes me is that so many seem to accept the basic premise that there must be a choice? What?! To think that it was Democrats who set it up as a choice between abortion access OR increased access to health care (insurance really, more than care, but I’m putting this in the best possible light) should be unthinkable. And yet, I haven’t heard much outraged refusal to accept that there even is such a choice, just bickering about which choice to make. The fact that so many argue on the side of choosing to make women take one for the team doesn’t surprise me at all. We’ve been granted rights for so long by these benevolent people, we should be grateful they are only taking back this little bitty sliver, see…
Make that mandatory vasectomies and you’ll get better results. After all, if you don’t like abortion and birth control because a fertilized egg is human, the only alternative is to make sure none of those eggs get fertilized, right? Most of the men I know who have been snipped didn’t want to do it. That’s so much worse than going through a pregnancy or having one’s tubes tied, of course, poor babies, so we should just take care of it all.
Not the America I love either, Teddy. Religious fundamentalism of any stripe is not good for a society when it’s allowed to infect politics and government. I am sick of hearing that America is a Christian nation from people who don’t know a lick of American history or have even a basic understanding of the U.S. Constitution.
I had not realized that Osama bin Laden of al Qaeda and Mullah Omar of the Taliban had established a right-wing religious fundamentalist terrorist sleeper cell in and around Amarillo Texas.
Sure, sure, they cloth themselves (falsely in my view) in the name of Jesus Christ, assuming a righteous mantle like bin Laden and Omar, but I can spot a right-wing religious fundamentalist terrorist cell from a mile away. I had not realized that insanity was so common in conservative circles, especially religious insanity.
The only solution is to dispatch predator drones to Amarillo to identify, target, and assassinate these religious extremists. That’s in the US Army playbook approved by the Obama Administration, right?
If ever we needed a president that would stand up to hateful and violent religiosity, and for, the separation of church and state, now is the time.
I’m not encouraged.
To those who have defended the folks here around women’s rights. My post had more to do with my history of struggling with the right. We were besieged here by nearly a year of Operation Rescue and other wing nut including one man arrested later for the murder of a provider. And I saw many progressive men thinking it was clever to “coopt” the language of the right by speaking about family values ostensibly from the left. But these clever measures of using the other sides tropes generally turn out to support the more popularized notions put out by the right. We have a harder job being clear given the corporate media bias. I’m glad to see an understanding here of the need to affirm reproductive rights as basic bodily integrity.
When we fought to keep the ERA here from Phyllis Schafly we were also targeted by the Army of God. They are not new they’ve been building and I submit too few men paid attention as long as they were attacking women’s clinics and women’s rights. I’m glad people here are recognizing the danger and I hope we will get it together before they have a lock on the law. Law enforcement is much nicer to these folks than anti-war protesters.
