And now it shakes back as Matlock himself unleashes Broderian outrage, to impose social order like Sally Quinn defending her crab puffs from Roger Ailes.
Emanuel, who left a leadership post in the House to serve his fellow Chicagoan, Obama, has worked loyally for the president and is not suspected personally by his colleagues of inspiring these Post pieces.
But, as one White House staffer said to me, “Rahm likes to win,” and when the losses began to pile up, he probably vented his frustrations to some of his old pals in Congress. It’s clear that some of them are talking to the press.
Oh, I’m sure no one would ever “suspect” Rahm of leaking stuff to the press, to make Rahm Emanuel look better, that would be f***ing retarded. It’s nice to see passive aggressiveness remains entrenched within the 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue — for 8 years I missed the passivity.
I will not take sides in a Broder vs. Milbank battle, other than to cheer on the war. But there is a point in Broder’s column when you cannot help but utter the statement, “WELL THAT’S RICH”:
From too many years of covering politics, I have come to believe as Axiom One that the absolute worst advice politicians ever receive comes from journalists who fancy themselves great campaign strategists.
That Broder, he’s the comeback kid.

About Firedoglake
If we spend less time fighting Rahm and more time organizing liberals to fight for real causes such as unemployment, poverty and putting pressure on Obama to wake up from his centrist slumber, we will be doing more for our causes.
Seeking scapegoats is an old biblical practice, we cannot afford while Democrats are in retreat almost everywhere.
Mr. Broder, the glue factory called — they’re looking to make a pickup.
Rahm wrote that story himself nobody in the WH might want to offend Rahm but come on these stories are obvious.
Anytime WH sources says Obama is going to piss of Lefties, go back on a campaign promise etc and the White House Spokesman denies the Story thats Rahm Leaking his own Private Agenda.
Anytime the press decides to do a vanity puff piece about a White House official for some reason the Press always chooses Rahm (its payment for all the leaked stories Rahm gives the Press).
Rahm work loyally for the President nope he’d not Obama’s Machiavelli he’s Obama’s Honest Obvious Iago.
Pissant Rahm is in obvious need of heavy duty anti-psychotic medication. Or maybe he just needs laid.
The Washington Press Mike Royko complained once has no idea about Chicago Politics Illinois Governor Jim Thompson a former prosecutor the Washington Press was saying had Clout.
Mike noted Jim at that time at least, never mind what happened later fought to clean up corruption Jim was Anti Clout.
Rahm is glory, headlines, and loves to be rude in public. Da Mayor does not leak personally he has guys like Rahm who do that.
Real Chicago Fixer Power is when you are so Hot on the Feds watch list that you don’t want to toot your own horn. Instead you get guys like Rahm to be the Public Face while the Big Guys really run things.
Rahm is a Patsy a loud obvious Public Figure who enjoys his Rep Publicly. Guys like Rahm are the Guys Da Mayor feeds the FBI and the local Prosecutors.
The Feds never get the big guys only the scapegoat Patsy’s.
The Washington Press I see still has no idea how Chicago works.
Rahm is engineering the destruction of the Democratic Party. He’s Obama’s Karl Rove:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sIAEhpg1L4
I don’t think the word “centrist” quite cuts it for Obama. If we go by the polls, a centrist would be in favor fo the public option.
Would a centrist hand trillions of dollars over to the banks and say “There ya go!”? I think not.
Obama-Rahm’;s secret meetings with insurance companies are not the actions of centrists. They are the actions of party traitors. I say this with love.
And we can’t pin it all on Rahm. Senator Obama voted for the Cheney every bill, which no Democrat, centrist or otherwise, would ever do. In a just world, he wouild have been tossed out of the party right then and there.
Rahm has Karl’s job but he sucks at it.
WaPOO is having a bad decade. Usually whoever was the object of their hatchet would have been out by now.

RedState thinks the GOP is too Racist? If the GOP loses Red State just what hope does the GOP have of bringing in Moderate Voters?
Both Parties are trying their best to lose big next election.
Rhambo’s “strategerizing” during the last year has managed to do more damage to the Progressive causes than has all the dilly dallying and delays that the goopers have managed to do. This WH has been in the grip of InsurPharma and the MIC even more so than the Clinton WH was and that is saying something considering Clinton gave us, between blow jobs, NAFTA that has been the cause of millions of job losses.
Rhambo is a whore. His motivation, it seems, is greed. He has obviously been promised fat bonuses from InsurPharma for his sweetheart deals but the real sadness is that this balls free president has happily joined Rhambo in his quest for money.
Does anyone know if Washington Post reporters get Stock Options?
http://www.google.com/finance?q=NYSE%3AWPO
Click the 19 year chart on the link Dec 10, 2004 $ 942.50 today’s price $ 436.52 I hope these Hack reporters retirement is all invested in the Washington Posts stock.
They lost just a little more than half their cash in 6 years.
Rahm was a player I heard on NAFTA. Thats the only Big Win I can find in his record. There seems to be nothing else Big he has won. His Rep is built on one success that is now so politically toxic even Rahm’s Press Groupie’s don’t mention it.
The GOP was doing a great job pushing away Hispanics with Lou Dobbs and Glen Beck, People were losing their Homes and Jobs we knew and wrote that if Obama went FDR on the problem the GOP was finished.
Instead Obama listened to Rahm.
I read a couple of weeks ago that Israel is preparing its next war against Lebanon (gotta have doovers until they get it right). Maybe we can convince Rahm to reenlist in the military he belongs in to help out.
Good morning all.
Morning all.
Sometimes the nonsense is overwhelming.
Politico reporting via Morning Joe that the RNC playbook has been found and that the game plan for the GOP is to use fear and labeling of DNC etc. as socialist.
Gosh there is a novel idea.
Who could have anticipated…
at the Holy Land Foundation trial in Dallas, heard the ultimate Israeli agent swearing that he could ‘smell terrorists’ – and the jury took his word for it. Just scary the amount that the worst administration ever carried out Mossad aims.
They are admitting what we have been saying here for years J.C Watts was the Last GOP Congressman who was African America and he left when Newt was in charge.
Ooops!
Good morning, pups. The prior comment reflects my inability to edit… Ms. Collins is off today, so Mr. Kristof is flying solo. In “Divorced Before Puberty” he says it’s no coincidence that Yemen is home to child brides — including Nujood Ali, who fought for and won a divorce at 10 — and terrorists.
Here he is.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got blueberry pancakes. I forgot to set my alarm this morning, so I’m running quite late. (Thank you, hungry kittehs who woke me up!) Have a great day.
Wouldn’t be a bit surprised. More alarming is that the U.S. is a client state of Israel. A decade ago, would you have thought that an Israeli soldier would ever be in charge of the WH?
He was my congresscritter and I met him several times.
He left to avoid some real estate scandals.
How long ago was that its kind of bad that the Last African American Republican in Congress is not even a memory for many kids who voted for Obama for the first time. Now I’m feeling old:)
Progressive means anti-semitism and sexism. Those things would be different from traditional liberalism. That’s all I got. What else. Help me out.
?
thanks, Marion. Child brides were common in the U.S. in rural areas not so long ago, see “coal miner’s daughter”.
Rural areas? You mean like in red states?
Some of us recall Adam Clayton Powell in congress, embracing every stereotype.
Also blue ones, actually. Cretinism as well, a result of extremely close intermarriage.
aka The “real america”.
????
Bullshit. What do you base this statement on?
My feelings exactly. Looking for a 5 words or 5 sentence or 5 paragraph definition of Progressive that is different from Liberal. That’s all I got so far.
Marion & nolomos, ya owe me drinks. I’ve had my coffee, so OJ would be loverly.
Help me out.
I have no idea what your point is.
Sorry for snapping at you. My guess is that you’re conflating Israel (a political entity) with Judaism (a religion). If I am opposed to Israeli policies this does not mean I’m antisemitic. As far as your adding in sexism, I’m just gobsmacked and I have no earthly idea what brought that on. Explain, please?
I’m asking for a definition of Progressivism. In earnest. How can I be more clear.
‘How can I be more clear.’
by leading with your question rather than an offensive accusation which is based on no evidence ??
Fresh squeezed or chemical in a box?
Yes. Thank you. That makes perfect sense. Would seem that would be possible without the flying anti-semitic innuendos I see on a site like FDL, no less. Same with sexist language from commentors. Do I need to catalogue every instance.
Being concerned with the little guy, for starters. Or maybe just wanting the legislature to do the voters will, as a low bar for the definition. Early in the morning for an intellectual undertaking.
That, offensive. That’s rich. Thought my original question was clear.
Since its virtual juice, I’ll stick with the best: valencia oranges, fresh squeezed. Thankyouverymuch.
progressive = continuing, continuous, increasing, growing, developing, ongoing, accelerating, escalating; gradual, step-by-step, cumulative.
I’m off to read until the guy comes to assess the sorry state that is currently my driveway, aka mud puddles. BBL.
We try and help everyone not just the rich like the GOP does we think Government can help people more than free markets.
Social Security is a good example, National Healthcare is a better example in countries with National Healthcare it costs less than our Private Free Market Healthcare and the people live longer.
The Righty Blogs seem to think racial purity in Europe explains it however Asians and Hispanics live longer than Whites the Righty Blogs seem to think otherwise though.
I follow. Just trying to tease out how the Progressive approach to that is different from traditional liberalism. It’s not something I expect to accomplish in one outing. I’m not as cynical as I sound.
Your original question: “Progressive means anti-semitism and sexism. Those things would be different from traditional liberalism. ”
yes, it’s quite clear. And offensive.
Is something wrong with liberalism?
passing by: I think aoyama is from the east and probably is studying US politics. I suspect there is a language limitation at work rather than the usual troll. Progressive is a name used to include those politically liberal in the historic sense since the term liberal has been used to denigrate the political position. This would include those who consider themselves on the political left, labour, socialist, and others in terms the rest of the world would understand. In the US, there is a case to be made for political dementia rampant in the population.
Good luck on definition of Progressive for aoyama.
Yes I agree anti-semitism and sexism are offensive.
Nothing wrong with liberalism for me. There appears to be a desired differentiation in the Progressive movement. Trying to understand what that is.
I dream for the day rahm is out
FDR got us out of the Great Depression Hoover and Bush were both lets not have Government regulate business types. In other words are ideas work.
FDR set up America for the post WW 2 economy, under Reagan the Rich got richer the middle class staid the same.
so then accusing some one of them is intentionally offensive.
Aoyama, I have a mouse pad with synonyms from Roget’s thesaurus:
While rather heavy-handed in its intent, they’re actual synonyms from Roget.
I’m a liberal not a conservative. But those definitions seem biased to me.
there you go.
I think she’s maybe just having some trouble with English as a second language.
Or I could be wrong.
mornin’ all – hello, I must be going.
Have a good day, pups.
It was not directed at you personally.
what’s another word for thesaurus?
ok – I really gotta go….
I’m a he. And yes English did come to me as a second language.
No, it was directed at ‘progressive’ in general, which we here are in general, and starting with an insult is offensive, intentionally.
As you informed us recently elsewhere that you are Japanese, this is something I was aware of. Having been on Okinawa several years, am acquainted with the syndrome of unfamiliarity of a language. But do not see unfamiliarity with language as a reason for starting with an accusation of antisemitism and sexism.
Perhaps. We all react to things we see as unjust.
as unjust as an accusation of antisemitism and sexism?
Yes, when it applies.
I wonder if, because the very word “liberal” has been turned into a pejoritive by the likes of Newt Gingrich and his ilk, old-style “liberals” have taken to calling themselves “progressives.”
Since I’m at work I guess I should really, you know, do some actually work!
Is that the only difference. Fox and Republicans beat at the term Progressives every day. Should it be given up for another.
And your reason for saying it applies is…?
long time no see,howya doin?
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the number six million. The population of Jews in the US, or something else?
Mickey, six million eyes acros America are watching you. http://thingsthatarerectangles.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/goat-eye.jpg
The number six million does not ring a bell here?
i love this picture of Rham
http://www.napolun.com/mirror/web2.airmail.net/napoleon/Napoleon_Great.jpg
OK then, just google “six million.”
Where in this post did you see any reference to six million anything, and no, the figure of six million is not significant of anything racist to me, any more than it is sexist… if it has such meaning to you, then it would probably help for anyone you are addressing to understand that it does if you explain.
edit; why would we google six million, which is something you alone have reacted to by accusing us of antisemitism and sexism?
the passage you link is not from this post, tho I vaguely remember seeing it at an entirely unrelated one.
Do you or FDL take Ahmadinejad’s position that 6 million innocent Jews were not burned to death in ovens.
To help you with perspective, 6 million is about 10 times all the men, women and children currently living in San Francisco.
Six million does not mean anything to you, and you talk about war genocides in the Middle East here at FDL?
Oh, the irony. It burns as if that strange yellow orb in my morning sky.
Back to read other comments now….
Another unfounded accusation, this is really ludicrous. and no, I have not talked about war genocides in the middle east. I also have other things to do and suggest you deal with reality, this one seems to be a personal fantasy and none of us in this thread is part of it. Bye.
The image I get when I think 6 million is of Lee Majors. Ha.
Hey, Ruth. The bug pokers sure get up early around here. Hi ya doin’, hon?
Six million is my personal fantasy. Wait, you’re saying it’s a fantasy.
You know what. Let’s give California back to Mexico. It’s not like we were in California two thousand years ago. It really was Mexico’s land, well after it was the Native American’s land. While we’re at it, let’s get rid of that border with Mexico. Why is that border even there. It’s racist.
And our Native Americans who live on reservations. What if they started firing missiles at our neighborhoods and shopping malls. We wouldn’t do anything rash like send tanks or troops to stop them, right? Gosh no. That also would be racist. No, we would sit back and let them keep firing, no matter how bad it got.
You want to talk about the conflicts in the Middle East…my advice…go study up on that six million number first, then go back about five thousand years and study the history of the region, working forward. Once you’ve got that under your belt, then you’re ready to talk about the Middle East, with no hypocrisy. There are no easy answers there. Stop hurling your easy condemnations until you have some history under your belt.
I don’t think anyone here is a holocaust denier. Some people feel strongly that the nation of Israel, in it’s treatement of Palestinians, has used some methods reminiscent of those to which European jews were subjected by the Nazis. Additionally, some resent what they see as undue Israili influence on American government due to dual loyalties of some American jews. Not all who comment on FDL are in total agreement.
The Progressive Movement was a more or less spontaneous and gradual reform movment, beginnning in local government in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. In general, it stressed a role for government in regulating private enterprise to improve public safety, fairness, and standard of living. |It involved both Republicans (like TR) and Democrats (like Wilson). With FDR and the New Deal, the movement tended to morph into liberalism, which incorporated a greater role for government in promoting the general welfare, or common good. |Republican linguistic tactics in the second half of the 20th Century successfully linked the word “liberal” with a stupid naivity, which stole from the worthy to give to the lazy. So, many liberals began to call themselves by the older term of “progressives.”
Somehow, I think you know this and don’t understand what you’re getting at through the disengenouous Socratic questioning.
Thank you. That’s helpful. When did the we come to embrace the modern term Progressivism in our electoral politics. I don’t recall Gore or Kerry talking up Teddy Roosevelt. What I remember is that the term became a significant movement as Bush’s bad wars began to take its toll in the Middle East. Starting with Dean in 04, then 06 and 08. If you take the subject of the Middle East out of most Progressive blogs, I honestly don’t see a clear platform articulated. Obama was the Progressive candidate, no? If he does not stand for Progressivism, then who does, and again what specifically does the movement stand for. Please direct me to any Progressive blog that articulates that Progressive manifesto with clarity.
And please, something more than anyone who did not vote for Obama in the primaries or general is a racist.
I think some people began to call themselves “progressives” rather than “liberals” earlier, more closely associated with Newt Gingrich and the Republican congressional seizure of Congress in 1994. It corresponds with all of the Frank Luntz linquistic tactics like “Democrat Party”, etc..
Most commentors on FDL do not consider Obama to be progressive, because they believe he wants to make only minor changes in the “free market”, limited government apporach of conservatives. Many did not favor Obama in the primaries and, although they did vote for him, indicate that they will not in the future. I am not one of those and find myself lurking more often and commenting less for that reason.
If I understand your last comment, I truly have not seen any knee jerk statements on FDL which suggest that criticism of Obama involves racism. On the contrary, comments have become about as critical of Obama, and sometimes as demeaningly sarcastic, as those of the conservatives.
That’s it for me.
Thanks again. No, I meant the reverse…the Obama campaign and its agents accusing anyone who would not vote for Obama as being racist…race baiting or guilt baiting, and I wasn’t suggesting that that took place on FDL, as I’ve seen on other Progressive sites.
Cite some examples. With links. Put up or shut up.
Study up on that six million. I have no interest in cataloguing all the comments on your site. If you can’t see the trends, I can’t help you.
http://firedoglake.com/2010/03/02/a-con-queso-dip-of-fail/#comment-2094480
So a comment by a reader poking fun at Mickey Kaus with a reference to three million goats keeping a close eye on him makes FDL and progressives anti-semitic?
Get a grip.
Cut the crap and stop hijacking this thread troll. No one wants your help with anything, and NO ONE here needs history reminders from you.
Not three million. Six million. Keep studying.
you linked to a comment about three million goats.
You want to have fun. Try this. Ask any of your Jewish friends, or just find one Jew anywhere, and ask them what 6 million means to them. When you find one Jewish person who says he or she doesn’t know, then report back. OK?
Oh I see, so just using the number six million is anti-semitic — I’ll alert the PC police.
In that context yes. I’m sorry if you missed that lesson on the Six Million Jews where you went to school. There’s also the larger context of being aware of the history being discussed in the Progressive blogosphere in general. Maybe you can work up a post about the state of education including history in America.
Like I said, get a grip
Like I said, study before you post.
This is the post of the week at FDL! Demonization of another inevitability results in some sticking to the demonizer.
six million?
the number of times rahm has referred to progressives as effing retards.
peas!
You think NAFTA is a big win? You DO realize THAT is where our jobs went? And why Wall St corporations can do well while Americans are put onto the street? And it is also why people in other countries are starving, the ones who used to grow their own food, just fine, until NAFTA prohibited it?
Dahm Rahm.
I’m not a Rahm supporter, but seems he has a point with you.
[modnote; please do not insult fellow commenters, thank you.]
