It’s been nearly two years since I posted what may be my favorite Late Late Night youtube of all time. I’ve been listening to it quite a bit as of late and had to share it once again.
Patti Smith recites the Declaration of Independence with German subtitles in an inspired forceful manner as an indictment of George W. Bush. Anklage von George W. Bush!
So tweet me when the revolution begins, twitter.com/eurekasprings. Patti has our script.
Update: Firedog Edward Teller has completed and posted his first draft of the final movement to his orchestral work, Hindu Kush. Listen to it here.
What’s on your mind tonight?

Aloha, ES…!
Happy Girl’s Day to all the Ladies of the Lake…! ;-)
nahant!
Hi, ES. Saw the vid last time. Wow.
I just posted one of my favorites.
Hey CT… rumor has it.. it is also Kelly’s b-day.
b-day?? happy b-day Kelly!!
Wow, what’s up with the elbow?
Saw that vid this afternoon…) gmta and all that.
water on the elbow. 2nd time I’ve gotten it.
Ooh, that Bites…! I’ve had water on the knee…! 8-(
I got that three times in the 90s though about 2002. Stopped when I gave up jogging.
Finished Hindu Kush with Peace Prayer Tuesday morning. We had our first rehearsal of the entire contraption Tuesday evening. Went very well.
Imagine that…! ;-) I wish the Army would’ve realized that simple fact…! *g*
ES, I’d not seen the Patti film. Wow, just wow!
Oh good. I’m glad you caught it this time.
Ironically – for you, CT – I finally realized I had to stop jogging, while running through the sands near Lanakai, headed south. It’s the way your heel digs into the sand that brought it out, I think.
Hello firepeeps!
Happy Birthday amigo…)
GREAT Patti Smith vid ES! Have never seen that.
She’s one of NY’s true original Rock N Roll Animals, along with Lou Reed. Artists that brought a sense of theatre to many of their performances, different from The Ramone’s or Talking Heads or Blondie.
Patti Smith was NY Beat Hip then, and now.
Thanks for reminding me of her!!!
Sure, just blame Hawai’i…! ;-)
Gracias!
Oy, today was wild. I made it through a talk I had to give in front of about 350 at a conference in Las Vegas today. I had a little rough start, but I managed to get my feet and then some laughs.
I had THE WORST case of butterflies, just gotta say…
But now I have some vino, so yay!
It’s incredible.
I wish I was there right now so I could blame it again.
When I helped a friend bring beat poet John Sinclair to Fayetteville and Eureka Springs a couple of weeks ago… his performance reminded me of this vid.
After listening to it several times since, along with all the daily news/blogging frustration, I just had to post it again.
And a big Sacto howdy to CT, ET, SN, and HIPPO BIRDIE TWO EWES Kelly Hoss!!!!!
*G*
Whats going on in blogworld? I’ve been off the air for 2 days now.
Smooch, mookie!
Wow. Way to go Kelly.
350! I would have giant Luna moths swarming.
Kelly, Happy Birthday!
First blooming crocus and some miniature iris blooming in the yard today.
*happy sigh*
Happy Birthday Kelly!
OMG, what audience of 350 did you speak to? I might have melted into my shoes. I only deal with groups of 40, or so. I can’t imagine. How’s the wine?
*kisses Loo Hoo’s hand in Continental Manner*
Merci!
Glad you did . . . she’s been a marvel all her years . . . Tom Russell has an album called Hotwalker where he chronicles a lot of folk heroes, telling stories, narrating them, singing songs, recalling old times . . . including hanging out with Bob Dylan and Alan Ginsburg in the Times Square apartment home of Dave Van Ronk in the early to mid 60′s.
Van Ronk had that NY thang, and Patti Smith has it, a generation apart, but that NY thang.
Geez that’s a great vid! Still buzzing from it! lol
Back atcha, hoss.
(slides down 20 Year Makers Mark, neat)
Slainte Mhath!
43F, with icy rain drizzles all night, two GREAT hours of downpour this afternoon, and a few hours of same yesterday. It’s COLD here right now!!!!!! *shock*
What an amazing video, thanks, ES.
And happy birthday Kelly!
Room service swill, mediocre, yet welcome. Heh.
A corporate gig. We have our major resellers gathered together and I was talking about our customers. Me and a Senior director were the only non-VPs addressing this group.
So I had to run through my preso last night with the VPs and the C-level crowd. It was like oral boards for your an davanced degree, I swear to god!
But it’s over, so I’m glad.
Curious… which album? Do you see it on this page, por favor?
Hey Margot.
Sounds like you did well, so congrats on THAT, also . . . sorry yer not home with yer honey . . . when do you get to get back?
SO glad! Don’t you just hate the anticipation?
Hi M! Thanks!
Yep!!!!
I’m tellin ya, and all other pups, if you want a history lesson of American Folk/Beat Poets And More, this cd is one you HAVE to get . . . . it’s narration, story telling, songs, and you just can’t beat the stories he tells of the likes of those I mention above, and of course, Edward Albey . . . . gotta add, it’s more of the seamy carnie like underbelly of American Life perspective . . . the story of life no one else ever covers or gets published . . . . like the narratives of Studs Terkel, and HST, and such.
I’ll get home Friday late afternoon, but the way it works out, I don’t see Belch again till the 19th.
It’s just the way my travel, and his remodeling of the folks house is working out. [sniff]
“For using the rhetoric of freedom to justify tyranny” …
that is all I need to abolish tyranny and reestablish a right government that led from the American Revolution to the US Constitution under the rule of law…not political tyranny by corporate crony capitalism.
Refreshing but no fulfilling. Sigh
Well, LOL which album is it? I wanted to check it out. *s*
Ah well, life intrudes and you are both doing essential living . . . time will fly . . . can’t wait for your next foodie video!!!! *G* LOVED the one I saw last weekend!!!
Oui!
If you are still here, fyi, I added a link up top to your big release.
Hope ya do, I think you’d like it!!! *G*
Mais, ca va bien, et bravo!
Doh! Tell me the album name… he has so many listed.
Oh yeah, ET, sorry to hear about the elbow and such! Hope it heals soon, know you are in the middle of a LOT right now . . . a new music project, yes?
Sorry, dude, I linked it above in my #42!!!!
Didn’t realize you didn’t see that!!!
Geez, two ships passing in the dark . . . . my bad!!! lol
Happy birthday and congrats on pulling off the speech.
Had that experience once – a boring technical topic no one, including I, understood…. can’t say I got any laughs.
Yep!!! I see it now. Thanks…)
Hey, if you give them all of your money, the Republicans will surely trickle down on you. And, what more could an average bloke ask for? Know what I mean?
Thanks SN!
So gang, what’s the going’s on in blogworld? I’m a bit out of touch.
Thanks, ES. I consider it to be more of a modest release, as proud as I am.
Cassie (Snarkassandra) got admitted to Princeton!
Yes.
That is so wonderful, and yet, not surprising!
What is interesting to me, after all the trillions of largesse lavished on the banksters they have systematically cut personal and business lines of credit while raising interest and creating new ripoff fees. The system is broke in more ways than I can count. Please read Matt Tiabbi’s 7 page piece in the ROLLING stones.
Elizabeth Warren: “My first choice is a strong consumer agency,” the Harvard Law professor and federal bailout watchdog said in an interview with the Huffington Post. “My second choice is no agency at all and plenty of blood and teeth left on the floor.”
My kinda lady!!!
Good for her! Wow.
Hi Bro. What’s the link on this one? (I try to read everything Taibbi writes.)
She deserves that. And far more. I imagine she’s looking forward to getting out of town with mixed feelings. As good as Texas universities can be in some ares, she might end up actually changing Princeton.
I remember the day she got inspired to comment here.
I have high regard for the People’s Republic of Austin.
Oh wow.
I wish we had educational institutions in Alaska that came close to the best Texas has to offer. We don’t.
“Blood and teeth,” brother. This lady has showed up for a fight.
EW has been on Bill Moyers for years — just think the world of her!
Damn few do. Austin is awesome. Pardon the aliteration.
But, “… blood and teeth”? Damn!
Excellent!
That is VERY kewl!
And yes, VERY Gift To Be Simple/Ode To Joy . . .
Trippy, because back in the early to mid 70′s I learnt to play appalachian dulcimer, and a couple of buddies on guitar and tenor guitar and I would DO those two as a medley, weaving in and out of them . . . coffee house open mics, omlette parlors on Sunday afternoon kinda thing . . .
Really like what I heard! Thanks for sharing!
You have to see her speak, what a wonderful scholar. She giggles!
evening, firegods
You should consider reading scarecrows latest at seminal now… and leaving a link with Warrens quote in that thread, imo.
I know we need her where she is, but dang I’d sure vote for her!!!!
Evening PPDCUS
hiya, ES
She’s the Halter I’m looking to support!
I’ve not seen her in person; only on TV. I’ve suggested that the Democrats should nominate her for president. She’d have my support over the incumbent.
Hey PPDCUS – I’m fading, and perhaps losing my battle here. I love, love, Elizabeth Warren.
Elizabeth Warren is the only person in all three branches of the federal government whose name I know that I actually trust.
Period.
Sorry, including Cheney’s fourth branch, too.
Gotta ealry day tomorrow.
Keep your torches lit, and your pitchforks sharpened!
*poof*
Goodnight all, and please tell me why Bill Moyers is going off air. Even my most progressive friends don’t know about his show on Fridays.
ditto.
Night Birthday boy.
Night Christine. (I had no idea about Moyers – that’s just wrong)
night CE – be well
Hi Bro. What’s the link on this one? (I try to read everything Taibbi writes.)
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/32255149/wall_streets_bailout_hustle
GREAT read, thanks for the heads up!!!
*G*
I know I’m not in Arkansas, can’t speak for you folks, but IMHO, anything is better n Blanche . . . ;-)
Heh, in a NY Minute, here, too. *G*
I just saw President Obama on HuffPo say I don’t care about the political healthcare is the right thing to do! Turn that horse around dude!
Sure hope it is medicare for all.
Well, I gotta run also, thanks ES and all Pups for the chat . . .
We do it all over again in the morrow, only different . . *G*
Nite pups. I’m out too.
Thanks eureka, et al.
Hey, ES. I’m with Larue. Thanks for the heads-up on Scarecrow’s latest. Great stuff!
He’s on fire… as we all should be.
Good night departing pups.
Hi Bro. Thanks, that’s the latest one I’ve seen, but when I read it, I found out that I’d missed a previous one back in Oct. about the same topic.
IMHO, Taibbi’s stuff it absolutely essential for anyone trying to figure out what the fuck is going on in the nation. To anyone who missed the article Bro linked to and/or its predecessor, please read it. You won’t be disappointed, for the entertaining reading if nothing else. Matt’s the best since Hunter S.
EW gets it, and everyone should. I’ve been trickled down on ever since 1980, and I’m fucking tired of it, as everyone should be.
Oops! That “EW” refers to “Elizabeth Warren,” not “Emptywheel.”
Yes thanks for the new Taibbi heads up. I try to check his blog at least once a week.
Well pups, time for me to turn in.
Good night!
Froomkin’s took F*cking Retard Rahm to the cleaners today, too.
night ES
Please, GO ELIZABETH!
We shall see if Elizabeth retraces the path of Brooksley.
With Summers, Geithner & Bernanke selling the snake oil pretending the ship isn’t lying broken on the ocean floor, I’m not expecting the massive breakthrough required for fundamental, sustainable economic restructuring.
Just saw Patti 2 weeks ago – back here in Detroit – she’s always inspiring!
