“First Senator from the Tea Party” Marco Rubio got hammered last week when it came out that he ran up large personal expenses on the Florida GOP’s credit card — and that was just the tip of the iceberg.
U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio admitted Friday that he double-billed state taxpayers and the Republican Party of Florida for eight plane tickets when he was speaker of the Florida House. Calling the billing “a mistake,” Rubio said in a written statement that he will personally repay the party about $3,000 to cover the flights because the trips in 2007 were for state business, not politics.
And Rubio still isn’t coming clean.
His campaign said Friday it had not identified any additional expenses that need to be repaid. The credit card records, however, indicate that at least some of Rubio’s personal expenses were covered by the party. [...] Rubio’s campaign would not provide a list of all the personal expenses he repaid.
And here’s why. One tidbit that has emerged is that Rubio spends an embarassing amount of money on his hair.
Needless to say, Charlie Crist is having a lot of fun with that.
“What’s up with getting a $133 haircut? What is he a model? I don’t understand this kind of behavior and this is the guy that says he is going to spend less money? I spend $11 on a haircut,” said Crist.
George Will praised Rubio for his “spending restraint.” Guess that didn’t apply to his hair care.

About Firedoglake
Even when I had hair, I never spent more than $20 for a haircut (and that included a tip)
Hair today gone tomorrow.
I’m sure I can expect every one of those right wing blowhards that berated John Edwards for his expensive haircuts to come out just as publicaly against Rubio.
Right?
Right??
I think the IRS might take interest in these. Unreported income, perhaps?
I can’t claim to be any expert in masculine tonsorial elegance–Madame cuts my hair, so she makes all such judgments on my behalf. But even I have to ask, is the do he has in the photo what he got for that kind of Party money? Really?
you forget, IOKIYAR
I was wondering that. But I’m in no position WHATSOEVER to make any remarks about anyone else’s hair. Because he does, after all, actually have some.
So thanks for saying what I felt I couldn’t. Although I’m no expert either.
Look what Edwards got with his haircut, no wonder he had to pay more.
Think I’d rather let mine grow.
Yeah, but not with the IRS.
Probably breaks down to $13 for the haircut and $120 for the Brazilian wax.
Nothing says conservative like a smooth bikini line.
Florida Perspective
I have some friends in the lobbying business. They describe him as as flexible as a snake. He’ll take any position that will make him a buck. Among the buck-hungry republicrats of the penisula he’s a real leader… by a buck!

Gotta hand it to ya RF, you CAN come up with ‘em. (Even as I’m wiping tea off my monitor. Again.) :>)
Looks like my work here is done. :-)
As you and Tonto ride off into the sunset…… :)
Shhh! Bob thinks I’m the sidekick…
Does Rubio still get carded for drinks?
Well, I don’t have much hair left either but it STILL costs me ten dollars for a hair cut.
Good, Lord, RF, a Brazilian wax is that much?
You know, when someone has the sort of arrogance as this character, you have to wonder whether he, like John Edwards, just doesn’t believe the rules apply to him.
So, there may well be a treasure trove yet to be discovered about Rubio
I believe it’s time for the “Congressional Haircut Price Index.”
I’m sure it will equal the “Congressional Vanity/Hypocrisy Index.”
If you shop around you might be able to find a better deal. :-)
When I lived outside Albany, NY, there was a place that charged bald men half price because we have only half the hair (Choices in Delmar, NY).
So whenever I go somewhere new, I mention this. I will usually wind up being charged something less than the going rate, although not half price. (Sometimes they’ll give me the cost of a buzz cut or something – basically, it becomes a game of how much I can shame them for charging $12 – $20 a haircut when it takes about five minutes to cut mine.)
It’s the BOB SHOW! with his trusty sidekick, Ratfood.:)
LOL
$130 salon bills? I thought Crist was the gay one in this race?
Oh, don’t go! I need your funny today! LOL funny!
He also appointed me executive producer. He wants food, I produce it.
Exactly. Though most gay men I know don’t spend that much on haircuts.
I freaking love long hairs. Still.
Yep, nowhere near that.
But for the right shoes…
LOL!
You guys are cracking me up.
Back in the early 90′s I paid a bunch load of money for haircuts in Bev Hills. But, mano, did my hair look great.
Seriously, folks, don’t miss Mark Aimes post on AlterNet regarding Ayn Rand.
Sorry, Ames.
Mine doesn’t grow long so much as it grows OUT. I end up looking like a foreshortened dandelion. Going to get it cut any day I can muster up the ambition. $12 Blue Light Special.
3 p.m., time to seize the day. See you later, msmolly.
Heh! There goes about half the teabagger vote.
I don´t care about John Edwards but you are correct because the right wing spin machine will stay far away from this issue and try to focus on some Democrat.
Book Salon a couple of flights upstairs with Moshe Adler’s Economics for the Rest of Us: Debunking the Science that Makes Life Dismal hosted by Max Wolff
IOKIYAR… or “Hubris be Us”…
Real fiscal conservatives get their hair buzz-cut by their wives, before they go out and mow the lawn.
He paid $133 for that mess?? He should demand his money back.
If it were styled with some gell and coloring, like one of those 80s glamor band doos, then okay, sure, 100 or so might be reasonable. But he looks like a prepschool kid. So did Jon Edwards… maybe they went to the same guy.
Look, they ALL do this. And when I say ‘they’ I mean politicians, and when I say all I mean ‘most’. John Kerry also had expensive haircuts (and an attitude to match). But it’s still good fun to call these guys out when they do that, and can’t answer for all their flights on Lear-jets (Buenos Aires perhaps?). Good for Crist for his SCORE on that… and he nailed him better than I would have ^_^
Meh: Teabaggers will run in circles and do whatever it takes to ignore this and pretend it’s no big deal or whatever. IOKIYAR.
Some say here we should make common cause with the Tea Party bc we have some issues/concerns in common. I’m not wholly opposed to that idea, but this kind of stuff is what makes me annoyed with the Tea Party (other stuff they do makes me angrier; this is just the annoyed level). They always have a double standard and cannot help themselves be anything but hypocrites.
Sigh. I suspect that many pols spend a lot of $$$ for haircuts. I don’t really give a shit about that. I’m just annoyed with the lying, cheating and double-billing, which is ignored by conservatives when it’s one of “theirs.”
That $133 haircut looks like a world-class combover. Give him a few years and he’ll have the Ted Koppel look going on.
