I watched most of today’s “health care summit” on CSPAN. “Higher premiums!” “NO, lower premiums!” Blah, blah, blah, blah…

All of which assumes the continuing inevitability of intermediary “premiums” rather than health care per se. All of which is testament to the juice of the parasitic insurance industry.

“Premium” – Etymology: Latin praemium booty, profit, reward, from prae- + emere to take… a sum in advance of or in addition to the nominal value of something… a value in excess of that normally or usually expected.

Invasion of the computer snatchers alert. Happened to me on Sunday night. Locked me out of most activities with faux warnings of viruses. Clicking on links, it asked me for credit card, which I was smart enough not to give. I was the first of 3 my computer consultant got this week, including one with sophisticated security. Was in the hospital for a day, but came back with no damage. Computer consultant said there is a 3 page instruction sheet for getting rid of it.

I’m not interested until I’m a victim. Was the first time. I couldn’t get into my address book (handheld PP kicked the dust years ago) so I had to call the friend who uses the same guy. Now I have a sticker on my computer with the consultant’s info on it. While he was at it, I had him install Carbonite which is a remote automatic backup for $4/month.

what i like is he puts up when patches are issued by the major players so if the software doesn’t auto update, you can do it manually. he includes links for those applications. explains what the microsoft black tuesday updates are each month and what they fix — and haven’t fixed yet. helps me keep my pooter up to date.

I hope it didn’t cost you too much to get the fix the other day. You said he had the machine for a couple days? Hope he doesn’t charge by the hour.

$60/hour. But he’s fair. So some of the research time it took him to figure out what to do he’ll spread on clients who need the fix. It’s better for him to have the computer because he can do other things while mine it doing something. He tried to do it remote, got a way into it, but the bug wouldn’t let it happen. If he does it remote, he can’t multitask. I haven’t seen the bill yet, but expect a couple hundred.

Toronto is getting a snowstorm … yaay for the kiddies and Snowboarders !

The best part of the night was, as the Murkan players cried, the whole place chanted, “USA ! USA ! USA !” to thank them for a gutsy performance.

They’re warning people about the frizzin’ rain and high winds, which have already started.

But no, we don’t get into names like “Snowmageddon” and all that nonsense … we have more important things to do, like make Chocolate Martinis ! *g*

The two teams are head and shoulders over the rest of teams in the competition. It could have gone either way, but our Goalie was incredible.

The Men’s Hockey Teams will most likely clash on Sunday in the Gold Medal game … that will also be an epic battle. But it’s always more special for the Ladies, because they don’t make a lot of $$$ playing Hockey; it’s all about National pride.

The US Hockey team outplayed Canada for the most part, but our Goalie was in the zone. By comparison, the US Goalie looked surprised when both goals were scored. Great teams, though … lots of great games down the road.

Canada’s Joannie Rochette has been the most incredible story of perseverance. Her Mom passed 4 days ago, hours after arriving in Vancouver to watch her Daughter compete. Joannie elected to compete anyways.

I’ve loathed Sally Quinn since the 1970′s when she wrote an article that DESTROYED a friend of mine. She is a slut, a back-biter, with an inflated ego and totally unjustified opinion of herself.

This article was the true “just enough rope to hang herself.” I’m sure there are legions of folks around DC rejoicing at her self-inflicted downfall.

Suzanne, my love for Sue Grafton is based on my familiarity with
Santa Barbara and “matching” all the streets & nearby towns with the names she uses.

Also, one of my best friends, who lives in SB, was interviewed by Grafton re a possible storyline. We’re still waiting for that book to come out. Since she just did “U,” there aren’t too many left!

So I saw on tonight’s weather — Sprayed my trees with dormant sulfur today in advance of tomorrow’s rains.

Suz, of the seeds I got, you’d probably do better with two in your climate. Asparagus and rhubarb. They take 2-3 years to mature, but oh, so yummy! I’ve had both here before, so I’m sure they’ll work.
