AC/DC — Its A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock N Roll).
What’s on your mind?
hey ct — how’s paradise tonight?
I watched most of today’s “health care summit” on CSPAN. “Higher premiums!” “NO, lower premiums!” Blah, blah, blah, blah…
All of which assumes the continuing inevitability of intermediary “premiums” rather than health care per se. All of which is testament to the juice of the parasitic insurance industry.
“Premium” – Etymology: Latin praemium booty, profit, reward, from prae- + emere to take… a sum in advance of or in addition to the nominal value of something… a value in excess of that normally or usually expected.
Hi CT and Suz what’s shakin on your tree tonight.
Huge storm coming over the West Coast.
W00t! Made it to Late Late. It’s been awhile.
I like, Suz!
hey bb — starting to hit up here — had to bring in the bird feeder because we are supposed to get windy. no high wind advisory so far. you all battened down?
hey ecahn — always a pleasure to see your fonts this late at nite. how’s new york state?
Huge storm on east coast. Precip started yesterday and will go on until Saturday. Sump pump in basement going off every 3 minutes.
hey loohoo glad ya do. how’s so cal tonight?
Every time my sump pump kicks in the lights in the parlor dim.
hey vegas — didn’t see ya come in. how’s vegas tonight dood?
at least ya have a way of telling when its working instead of having to run down the stairs to check
Rolling stones explains how Obama’s campaign machine was sent to the DLC where it fizzled. With no grassroot to support HRC it was left to Rahm Emanuel to twist arms. He did but the wrong ones and Obama Populism died after the election. Without the people Big Brother took over. PO was never an option for WH. Just plain stupid Obama.
i am soooo forking pissed — nbc has planned the ladies ice skating free program so it is on during the daily show. if i am gonna watch tds, i’ll could possibly miss the winning skate
10am for us. It is massive on radar.
I can hear it too. But maybe I should get out my air matress, just in case.
sunny! how ya doing tonight?
Me too. But, I took a late nap.
Watching the crazy guys throwing their bodies into twists in the air. Nuts.
you could just sleep in your mae west
hey demi — lotsa folks staying up late tonight :) a good thing. how goes?
Enjoyed your comments today. Did you see Calculated risk a quote from the FED Reserve chair. Same as the Head woman from SF FED. Econ moving sideways for a long time maybe years without reemployment. Glad I am not coming out of college with a huge debt to pay.
Looks like we may get a bit more wonderful rain. My water bill was only $82 for Feb!
hey ce — how’s ohio tonight?
Heh. My pillow’s not big enough.
Jobs picture is NOT good.
well ya could use it as your pillow (laughing)
Shoulders a little sore from pruning the rose bushes this afternoon. T’was in the high 70′s, so I took advantage of the warmth. But, everything else is great.
Babe! (So, which of stephanie’s guys do like the best? Are you biased for the cop?)
demi, I saw yesterday you’re looking for a job. Have you considered census work? Ecahn mentioned it the other day, and the pay is fair.
Beautiful and snowy! Just about three inches, enough to cover mud and spread glitter all over (my favorite). High winds — our poor heater is cranking it out tonight.
i like them both — just as stephanie plum does
Yeah, maybe. I keep forgetting about the census, don’t know why. I’ll look at that tomorrow. If I remember. I’m still working at the gym, but only two days a week.
if the wind wasn’t there, it would be perfect. love clean glittery snow
Like the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other. Me too. Plus, the cop has a cute dog.
i think you would be great at it demi — you have good people skills and that is what they are looking for.
Invasion of the computer snatchers alert. Happened to me on Sunday night. Locked me out of most activities with faux warnings of viruses. Clicking on links, it asked me for credit card, which I was smart enough not to give. I was the first of 3 my computer consultant got this week, including one with sophisticated security. Was in the hospital for a day, but came back with no damage. Computer consultant said there is a 3 page instruction sheet for getting rid of it.
but there *is* his grandma. she’s scary.
Oh, thanks, hon. People do seem to like to talk to me. Shrugging.
She’s a trip. Seriously, who loves to go to funerals?
Link for you.
I love this kind of snow. Most of my co-workers do NOT. As much as I miss the ocean, I have to admit that I love Cleveland’s seasons. Still, as beautiful as tonight is, I do miss the sea.
yikes — i keep up via brian krebs — he used to do tech blog at the wapoo but they canned him along. he and froomkin were the only ones i read over there and now they are both gone.
I like not Ranger ;-)
not her grandma — i like hers. joe’s italian grandma.
i love ranger. i’m not sure that he’s the guy for her tho.
Thanks. I bookmarked. Are all y’all tired of me talking about getting a job? Kidding. It’s nice to be cared about. Real nice.
The one with the evil eye.
yup — who can curse ya and it works
I’m not interested until I’m a victim. Was the first time. I couldn’t get into my address book (handheld PP kicked the dust years ago) so I had to call the friend who uses the same guy. Now I have a sticker on my computer with the consultant’s info on it. While he was at it, I had him install Carbonite which is a remote automatic backup for $4/month.
You’re right. She’s really a nice girl.
Now, how about her friend, what’s her name? The ex-ho? She cracks me up. A lot.
what i like is he puts up when patches are issued by the major players so if the software doesn’t auto update, you can do it manually. he includes links for those applications. explains what the microsoft black tuesday updates are each month and what they fix — and haven’t fixed yet. helps me keep my pooter up to date.
I hope it didn’t cost you too much to get the fix the other day. You said he had the machine for a couple days? Hope he doesn’t charge by the hour.
lulu? i love her outfits and i think she’s allergic to tank but hasn’t figured that out yet
i get newsletters from janet evanovich (signed up via her website) and also am a facebook fan of hers
more bagpipe rock
She is and in the one I read a couple of weeks ago, she figured it out.
Oh, gosh, I just got tears at that P& G Thanks mom commercial. I’m such a sucker.
$60/hour. But he’s fair. So some of the research time it took him to figure out what to do he’ll spread on clients who need the fix. It’s better for him to have the computer because he can do other things while mine it doing something. He tried to do it remote, got a way into it, but the bug wouldn’t let it happen. If he does it remote, he can’t multitask. I haven’t seen the bill yet, but expect a couple hundred.
I was watching ice skating until a bit ago. Whew, I’m exhausted.
hey margot — still not on here — they are doing biathlon now or something….
how ya doing tonight?
that one must not be out in paperback yet….
Doing good, thanks. Nice to see you all!
I want more Metro Girl/Motormouth. Bad.
OK. Think I’ve had it. Nite all.
Who knew? Thanks. Two bookmarks from one thread.
I feel loved.
Maybe not, but I got it at the thrift store. I’d give you the title, but I already gave it away.
i want more of everything she writes. her in between the numbers. metro girl. its not like she isn’t already writing 24/7 (laughing). i don’t see how she does it.
An incredible effort on your part. Really late there. Like, late, late, really late nite.
See yas tomorrow. Sleep warm.
‘back to figure skating with than than an hour of coverage’… i swear, nbc is trying to make folks miss the daily show and colbert — on purpose
‘uninterrupted coverage the rest of the way’ is what the talkover guy just said. forkers
And, stay up all night? Finally.
my problem is *not* staying up all night :)
nite all. Thanks suz.
I can’t put my leg above my head like that. It’s amazing, isn’t it? Incredible athletes.
Sleep well, Sunny.
g’nite sunny — my pleasure thank you
I got the yawnies, Suz. Thanks for everything.
I know, I’m being a wuss. :O
My problem is really weird schedules! Maybe I need to start setting the alarm again.
Nite ecahn and sunny.
i don’t have an alarm. if i need to get up early for an appt, i use my cell phone alarm
final group of ladies taking the ice
Goodnight ? Why, the night is still Young ! *g*
Petro! how’s canada tonight dood?
Toronto is getting a snowstorm … yaay for the kiddies and Snowboarders !
We’ll have 4-5 inches by tomorrow and a few more over the weekend.
sweet (if ya are a kiddie or snowboarder)
petro — is your media calling it return of snowzilla and making a big deal of it or is it just another storm that everyone handles well and doesn’t gridlock the city?
Oh yeah, and we were partying like crazy, while our Ladies beat your Ladies to claim the Gold Medal in Hockey.
The best part of the night was, as the Murkan players cried, the whole place chanted, “USA ! USA ! USA !” to thank them for a gutsy performance.
They’re warning people about the frizzin’ rain and high winds, which have already started.
But no, we don’t get into names like “Snowmageddon” and all that nonsense … we have more important things to do, like make Chocolate Martinis ! *g*
i’ll bet! i was happy for the canadians tho and loved them all arm in arm singing o canada with such joy
well you do have city services that actually provide needed services — the crews get the roads cleared quickly etc etc etc
The two teams are head and shoulders over the rest of teams in the competition. It could have gone either way, but our Goalie was incredible.
The Men’s Hockey Teams will most likely clash on Sunday in the Gold Medal game … that will also be an epic battle. But it’s always more special for the Ladies, because they don’t make a lot of $$$ playing Hockey; it’s all about National pride.
How ya doing ?
Hi Suz and pups.
Breaking out the good stuff … hold out yer glass …
hey emerson — how’s the east bay tonight dood?
I’m great. It’s cold here, too, and I have chili powder sent by a friend from NM. Food of the gods.:)
Pour my friend and we’ll toast the Womens Canadian Hockey team and another great export-Neil Young! *g*
Actually found myself pulling for Canada. They deserved it.
*wink* … hmmm, lessee if we toss some of that Chili powder into some yogourt and rub that on some Chicken, we could have a great late night BBQ. Skdadl will tell ya how fond I am of BBQs … *g*
Still in Napa Suz with Spence. Starting to feel like this is home. How are you?
I’ve been having a wonderful time tonight reading about Sally Quinn’s HUGE gaffe: her Washington Post column attempting to “justify” scheduling her son’s wedding on the same day as that of her husband’s [Ben Bradlee] grand-daughter.
Go from the HuffPo summary of the dust up
and click on the column itself [link within] and then to the comments to Quinn, which are a HOOT!!
hey mauimom — isn’t it just desserts in its gossipy tawdriness :) how ya been?
doing good — watching the ladies free skate and enjoying it immensely.
The US Hockey team outplayed Canada for the most part, but our Goalie was in the zone. By comparison, the US Goalie looked surprised when both goals were scored. Great teams, though … lots of great games down the road.
*Pours Double/Double of Highland Park for Emerson and anyone else who’d like some*
Hoping Quinn’s right about Rahm leaving DC this year. The sooner the better.
I’ve made chicken coated with yogurt, it’s great. Adding chili has to be good.
Oh, Stephanie Plum fans!
I’m a dyed in the wool Sue Grafton fan, but am acquiring a taste for the Stephanie Plum books. Listened to a couple of them on my laptop when I was snowed in in DC a couple of weeks ago.
and some thought HP stood for Hewlett-Packard (shaking head.)
i so want him outta the white house. now would not be soon enough (laughing)
Canada’s Joannie Rochette has been the most incredible story of perseverance. Her Mom passed 4 days ago, hours after arriving in Vancouver to watch her Daughter compete. Joannie elected to compete anyways.
Gorgeous starry night up here amongst the clouds…! ;-)
yeah, he’s more of an outhouse kinda guy.
i used to read grafton — but now am avid plum :) i love how the characters come back in new books like grafton’s do.
she’s on the ice here now — finally (i hate this delayed broadcast)
Yep, the yogourt keeps the Meat sooo tender and the spices give the meat some zing.
Okay, I’d better stop talking about food, or I really will go and fire up the BBQ. *g*
I read that. She’s a social climber, thinks she’s hot shit, she isn’t.
Number 6 is pretty-whoever she is. Is Wickenheiser Doug’s sister?
I cried tonight watching her perform. Very very good, elegant, moving.
His cousin, actually.
She was terrific … her ability to focus, despite the tragedy is a tremendous lesson for me.
G’nite all !
I’ve loathed Sally Quinn since the 1970′s when she wrote an article that DESTROYED a friend of mine. She is a slut, a back-biter, with an inflated ego and totally unjustified opinion of herself.
This article was the true “just enough rope to hang herself.” I’m sure there are legions of folks around DC rejoicing at her self-inflicted downfall.
she’s a conniving backstabber who is gonna finally get a taste of her own medicine.
So, at least the Women brought home the Hockey Gold, Eh…? ;-)
I guess Quinn got the info re Rahm from his [Quinn's] “intended,” since she’s Rahm’s yoga teacher. ["Quinn" = Sally Quinn's son, whose name = Quinn Bradley.]
Suzanne, my love for Sue Grafton is based on my familiarity with
Santa Barbara and “matching” all the streets & nearby towns with the names she uses.
Also, one of my best friends, who lives in SB, was interviewed by Grafton re a possible storyline. We’re still waiting for that book to come out. Since she just did “U,” there aren’t too many left!
CT – I’ve gotta go outside & look at the sky. Earlier tonight it was cloudy here, no stars could be seen.
wow, that was exciting to watch. don’t think there will be any controversy over the ladies’ medalist positions (unlike that whiny russian guy).
that is so forking cool. i love reading books where i know the locations.
If you’re not atop Haleakala you’ll only be looking at clouds…! ;-)
I need some serious jams to keep awake, this is my second night in a row…!
how about this ct?
I’m at about 2500′ on the side/slope of Haleakela
Rahm and yoga in the same sentence just sounds wrong, doesn’t it? *g*
one of them oxymorons like gov’t intelligence
Ah… Upcountry Maui…! ;-)
I was so happy to see the Canadians win. Thought of my of our Canadian friends here at FDL.
Oh Yeah…! Jimi…! There must be someway outta this place…! ;-)
thought that would appeal to ya (laughing)
Margot, I bought seeds from Victory, a non bio-engineered seed spot. Bought habineros and serranos along with jalepenos!
my landlady and i are going over our survival seeds packet and figuring out what to plant now and what to freeze and store for future gardens.
Alvin Lee blast
oooooh that’s a good one emerson
try some of this fine cream ct
Well “Rahm” + “ballet” don’t go too well together either in my mind.
I just haven’t been able to figure out why this story is important. I’d never read her past the first time many years ago. Is she like the page 6 of the WaPo?
Help me understand this Sally Quinn.
hey ppd — how’s the south south bay?
Ewww-Rahm is a ballet dancer? Worst ballet news I’ve had since I got tickets for Barishnikov and they announced 10 minutes before curtain he wouldn’t be doing any leaps since he had pulled his groin! He basically spotted.
she had an affair with her boss, caused his divorce, married him and then cattily called folks who had affairs names.
Good thanks — how’s everything up north?
they worked at the wapoo together — he was the publisher or something. she then became the queen of the social bees in dc — heralding what was acceptable or not.
hunkering down for the rain rain and more rain headed this way :) 3 lows circling around each other out in the pacific
ppd — ct needs jam music — second night in a row up on the mt
So I saw on tonight’s weather — Sprayed my trees with dormant sulfur today in advance of tomorrow’s rains.
Suz, of the seeds I got, you’d probably do better with two in your climate. Asparagus and rhubarb. They take 2-3 years to mature, but oh, so yummy! I’ve had both here before, so I’m sure they’ll work.
what’s CT doing up on the mt?
am a novice at gardens. my landlady is taking me under her wing on this one. she does most of her gardening at her portland home. i’ve done potted gardens but nothing beyond that.
excellent. you all battened down?
working — spotting for the lasers
spray during flowering before leaves pop stops fungus later
quicksilver at monterey
We’re expecting less than an inch in the valley with 2 to 4 inches in the mountains, Suz — some wind, though
But leaves come before flowers.
speaking of monterey
some wind here but so far no high wind warning ppd
Whoa! Great find, Suz!
not this year — trees were fooled by the warm rains
thanks emerson — hard trying to find stuff that will keep the aloha dood awake
maybe this will get his toes a’tappin
time for some sleep – night all
holy moly look at the time. time for me to vamoose folks
g’nite all and thanks for all the music and conversations tonight
Night Suz, thanks again.
One last tune for CT
Mahalo Ya’ll for some mighty fine tunes…! ;-)
