Ah, the above is what passes for the wit and wisdom of Howard Kurtz. Washington Post’s village meme-enforcer and Michelle Malkin’s enabler. And with the hiring of Bush torturer lover Marc Thiessen his words are as accurate as ever.
But the new hires are one thing, it is in the long-standing columnists of the Post that you truly find “liberal” in full-flower. And the “liberal” consensus is “let’s get us another war on!”
Anne Applebaum realizes that Obama is just not going to start another war with Iran for all manner of really logical reasons — so we’ll just let those crazy Israeli’s get us into it with the crazier Iranians.
I do not think Obama would restore the fortunes of his presidency by bombing Iran, like a character out of that movie “Wag the Dog.” But I do hope that this administration is ready, militarily and psychologically, not for a war of choice but for an unwanted war of necessity.
At the same time, America’s Concern Troll will not be out-trolled!
It may be time for Barack Obama, ever the soul of moderation, to borrow a tactic from Richard Nixon and fight crazy with crazy. The way things are going, it would be crazy not to.
Yes, it’s finally come to that, Richard Cohen channeling Peggy Noonan’s phrasing.

Someone should air out the gym locker at the Washington Post. They’ve been huffing Desenex again.
Those ‘liberal’ editorialamists are the reason their latest creation, teabaggage, has no knowledge of the issues they are protesting – now by flying planes into buildings. Bill Maher did a great job of making the point that what you have is a cadre of the ignorant, protesting about issues on which they are either uninformed or misinformed; “Freedom means Guns, Diplomacy means Weakness, Elitist means Reader, and Socialist means Black.”

Ahh, look at all the crazy people – where do they all come from?
Anne seems jumpy. Hope she’s worked things out with the Russians. What does she mean, “Contrary to Palin, I do not think Obama would..”. Is she saying Palin is a dog. That’s not nice. Anyway, people are losing their minds, or our agencies are working overtime. We do need jobs.
War of necessity? It seems as if I’ve heard that somewhere before.
It does feel good to be back in the saddle again though, doesn’t it. Progressives can focus again.
So if Israel attacks Iran it would be “necessary” for America to rush in and help the crazies? If Israel attacks anyone, including Palestine again, it is far beyond the time to tell them to take their warmongering ways and stuff ‘em.
Morning,
Attacking Iran,a necessity George Custer could understand.
The mighty mules of the Washington Post are straining as one to drag us in, just like last time. They don’t call ‘em the 20 Mule Team for nuthin’.
So there is a place called Palestine after all. Good to know.
Good morning, pups. It’s Brooks, Cohen and Herbert today. In “Into the Mire” Bobo writes about another compromise from the White House, another Washington gimmick as the health bill remains (barely) alive. Mr. Cohen, in “The Narcissus Society,” says it’s time for self-absorbed Americans to recognize one another through universal health care. In “Where the Bar Ought to Be” Mr. Herbert tells us that in Harlem, an educator is expecting the best, not the worst, from students at her charter schools.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got a variety of bagels with cream cheese this morning. I’ve got kittehs telling me most firmly that it’s time for breakfast, so I’m off to fill cat dishes. Have a great day.
And to counter a wholly-unrelated threat from that of China in the 1970′s, Richard Cohen brings to the table the brilliant ideas of…Richard Nixon?
And how, Mr. Cohen, did that tactic work out for Mr. Nixon?
Turns out Richard Nixon really WAS a crazy mutha.
if obama were a republican the left would be going bat shit over what he’s pulling, pretty funny they call for him to become more “moderate”
if he were to become more moderate we would be happier cause that would move him to the left of where he governs right now
After we bomb them back to democracy, the Iranians wil greet us with flowers.
well, they will wait for us to begin torturing them, they LOVE that SO much, it wins their hearts and minds
I do hope you mean the Israelis
Good morning citizens, sezme street is brought to you today by the the letter “C”. C is for crazies. Can you say cray-zees ? Good! See the crazies with their signs boys and girls? Good! C is for Constitution. That’s a big word boys and girls. Can you say Con-sti-tu-tion ? That’s wonderful boys an girls! All right,do you know what the Constitution means ?
OK Howie, what do you think ? Do you really think it gives you the right to write anything you want, even if it is totally devoid of fact ? Or do you have the right to print the truth and an occasional opinion, and maybe a little misinformation, but not solely misinformation and call it true.
What about you, Peggy Sue what do you think it is all about ? Do you think the Constitution is an invitation be as savage as our enemy ? Fight crazy with crazy ? Or does it give us the moral high ground by loving our enemies and treating them with kindness and respect even as we kill and capture them. We don’t torture or poison. We are not cruel.
All right Anne what do you think about it ? Does it allow the soldier/citizens to stay at home with their families, work their farms and practice their crafts. Or Anne, do you believe the Constitution favors war when possible ?
Richard, you have had your hand up, go ahead. ” I agree with Peggy and Anne.
What Who said: “It is unfair to crazies” Now Michelle, I told you as long as you distort everything I am trying to teach to the kids, we don’t want to hear from you, now go sit in the corner ’til you stop that!
I missed the memo where the word journalist was supposed to be interchangeable warmonger, maybe it was internal to WaPo. Perhaps the rising tide of anti-Iran rhetoric is in some part based on the concern that the US military, being dependent upon a functioning economy in order to borrow more money to pay for present destruction is headed toward a crisis point. Wipe out the “threats” to Israel before the current games warning buzzer blares. Between this and the completely misunderstood idea that the US economy came out of the Depression because of the actual act of sending troops into WWII we seem to have altogether too many people that see killing large numbers of people in order to remake the middle-east in our image as a rational solution.
Arguments from the neocons and fundamentalist, rightwing factions like the Oath Keepers are becoming more stridently apocalyptic. They seem to want to bring about the end of days and are more than willing to make sure that they use the rest of as cats sent into the afterlife first in order to pave their way.
