About Firedoglake
I skimmed NYT article of obama-bot cheerleading – I missed the public option the big zee-r-0 is going to fight for …??
oh well – off to work soon.
rmm
Poor George seems to forget that the previous occupant of the WH had no compunction at all when it came to ramrodding his “policies” through congress.
A word search did not return the phrase “Public Option”.
But this was included:
YEAH! if I lose my job with over priced INSURANCE, I’ll get to still get ripped off – AND – with my taxes, I’ll support the companies waiting to rip me off while they rip off my neighbors!
The Big Zee-R-0 … how is that hopey changey thing working for us? I’ve never voted fascist, but, at least they’re straight up honest to goodness thieving liars working 24*7*365 to screw us all for the benefit of the rich scum …
what are the assholes on ‘our’ side good for?
rmm.
Yeah I think I am with you. I am seriously contimplating not following politics or being active with my money or my vote. I feel like we are going to get screwed no matter who is in office. *sigh*
If Obama has the gall to dump upon 120 Reps and 20 Senators by dumping the Public Option he is doomed to lose his base. He and his staff are showing to be deceitful corporate tools. Obama is so used to lying through his teeth that he has no compunction in engaging in Rahmsian thuggery.
These thugs do not even take concrete video clips showing Obama on Public Option and Single Payer as a barrier to denying the facts.
Steamrolling the logic of these 140 members of Congress – is possible in the Don Obama territory only by deploying the hit men like Emanuel.
They are deliberating ignoring the DailyKos / research 2000 post MA election polls about the PO.
This level of blatant ignoring information that does not suit their Corporate Bosses is plain shamelessness.
I do not believe that a Whitehouse where lies are truth and truth is considered a lie – is what Obama promised his supporters.
Will Durst in The Progressive had this to say.
“[OB] is a conscientious worker. No matter what you think of his policies, you have to admire his ability not to get involved in them”
The regulatory step sounds consistent with Rahm’s “never let a crisis go to waste” approach. And if Anthem was f’ing stupid and greedy enough to do this massive rate hike, so be it. Beefing up the regulatory side is a clear need, and this is a step.
But note that we also have the power to do this in the credit industry, and banks are charging what used to be called “userous” interest rates on credit cards–and congress just whistles a happy tune while banks do this. Regulation is a necessary step, but is not sufficient. I guess we’ll see what else the Prez. has for us in his proposal.
George Will is the ideal spokesmodel for conservative/libertarian Republican philosophy. A cold blooded, rich pampered, pompous, privileged, patrician. In a nutshell he tells his fellow citizens, “I’ve got mine, what’s wrong with the rest of you?”
Wishful thinking. It ain’t gonna happen. Our innovative edge is gone. Our best and brightest will do better emigrating to foreign shores to develop their talents.
Yep, no public option, rate hikes to be contained by a federal insurance authority, no attempt to apply actuary information to actual health care spending, the marvelous mandate stays and a reworked excise tax.
The rate hike authority approach would have holes that a truck could pass through and probably mostly a case of the fox guarding the henhouse. Attempting to strangle health care costs by trying to force thousands of separate health care entities to negotiate via a variety of uncoordinated insurance death panels. Just another excise tax variant.
Simple solution for the insurers continues to be easy-peasy. Keep premiums flat; reduce or eliminate coverages; increase co-pays: profit!.
This still looks like the Senate bill.
Mornin’, BT, pups
I’m in the process of re-reading Chomsky’s Profit Over People. Slim volume that many have either forgotten or ignored. A great overview of neoliberalism, the real philosophy of the Village.
I wonder if Rahm Emanuel still wakes up every morning thinking he’s a genius.
Krugman this morning. The Bankruptcy Boys
Heh, the Rethugs. The Party of No. No plans, no brains. No shit.
Immigration from the U.S. to foreign shores is likely to increase in the coming years as the U.S. flounders and continues it’s downward spiral. A corrupt, compromised, duplicitous and self-serving corporate media, a traitorous “opposition” party and weak leadership from the WH in addressing fundamental structural political/economic contradictions suggests an eventual implosion if not outright civil war.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Irak: 4,378
US KIA Afghanistan: 999
I remember when Irak hit 1,000. I’d like to spend more time being for something than against something. Get the fuck out of Irak and Afghanistan, assholes.
Iraki and Afghan casualties: estimates vary to over 1.5M
US MBS 2010: 6.448 and counting
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
Emigration certainly sounds like a better option than getting caught up in a civil war.
New post up top…
From Krugman
Sounds like a catastrophe is the desired outcome, so the haves can buy up the collapsed assets for a song.
I guess you didn’t watch 60 Mins on Sunday, there is plenty of innovation edge left in America, we outnumber the great technological powerhouses like Germany and Japan, we just go after the short-term profit over long term growth of market share.
There are still opportunities in transportation and energy markets we just have to have the political will either at the State or Federal level to get it done.
