About Firedoglake
Good morning, pups. MoDo and Frank Rich are off today, so it’s just Friedman and Kristof. The Moustache of Wisdom says “The Fat Lady Has Sung,” and that President Obama’s calling is to lead nation-building. He clearly understands this but he has yet to give full voice to it. Mr. Kristof, in “I Cost More, But I’m a Specialist,” poses a question: What if the news industry were like our unreformed health care system?
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got French toast made from challah, with a bit of cinnamon. I’ve been slacking off because I’m an Olympics junkie, so I have work to catch up on, and I’ve got to get it done before Olympic coverage starts or it won’t get done at all! Have a great day.
Thanks, Elliott and Marion. I did see Lysacek’s gold medal performance, and it was beautiful, also saw the Chinese couple’s awesome performance. These are worth watching the Olympics, certainly.
Watching Chris Matthews saying Pres. O can’t say what he thinks, because the country is anti-liberal. Guess he doesn’t believe the polls.
Yeah, I had to laugh at the line “Will Obama Push His Agenda, or Move to the Middle?”. If he moved to the middle it would be a big move to the left.
Tweety is one of the most destructive forces in the media.
Tweety now speculating that Pres. O. isn’t going to run for second term, promoting Hillary as Dem Great White Hope. Destructive is putting it mildly.
So many neo-cons are needed to defend the wars and banksters and corporations. Fortunately mass communication is under control of the new world order. Here is a list of some of today’s neo-con shills. Or is this the list from last week or the week before…Same old toxic lies, without any dissenters or peaceniks or hippies.
Evan Bayh, Susan Molinari, Matthew Dowd, James Baker, George Will, Matthew Dowd, Colin Powell, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Haley Barbour, Bill Kristol, Mara Liasson, Stephen Hayes, Juan Williams, and Peggy Noonan.
These milionaire propagandists, are the enemy. We also have “Ted Morgan”,
The Battle of Dien Bien Phu was a tragedy for colonialism and war mongers. It was a victory for the people of Viet Nam, to not be ruled by corporations as we are. It may be his 19th book, but the title itself is pure neo-con as Dien Bien Phu did not lead the US into the Vietnam War. It was the False Flag Op of the Gulf of Tonkin, cooked up by Strange McNamara and LBJ. Morgan may not be a neo-con, but his cousin John Negroponte is an Irak War Criminal.
Im guessing Mr. Baker needs to appear to honor his old friend and colleague A. Haig. Just a thought.
Love, love, love Gov Schweitzer, just telling WashJournal that Perry used recovery funds to rebuild the gov’s mansion while claiming theyre going to leave the country because don’t want stimulus.
morning from raining and thundering N.TX, RevBev
Thanks. Some morning rain here as well. Our local paper endorses Kay Bailey..nice. That Perry….the same one who doesn’t want to be stopped for speeding…
Glad to hear it, Perry’s ad claims he has billions in reserves, which really raises the question about why we’re cutting schools and police?
Morning all. Snow for us in Denver.
Pity we can’t play Johnny Weir’s Long Program performance. It was beautiful and brilliant. That poor boy sure got screwed by the Olympic judges. And by NBC, too.
Good morning from NW Indiana, where it is gloomy and gray. This is the part of the long Indiana winter I hate, with piles of dirty snow left from a week ago, unremitting gray, and a new winter storm watch that includes heavy wet snow mixed with freezing rain. I keep telling myself that March is just around the corner. Maybe that’s too much hopey changey?
Much too hopey-changey. You really expect March to be any different than February? March is gonna be way too busy cleaning up after February to change anything!
And why is it that David gregory never has a REAL liberal on his show?
Would prefer seeing Jane replace tired, hackneyed E.J. Dionne, the corporate media’s idea of a progressive. One reason why these talking head program’s are so unwatchable and uninformative is they generally recycle the same “experts”, “opinion makers” and “politicians” over and over and over again. How often do they put on a Bernie Sanders, an Alan Grayson, a Naomi Klein, etc.? The programs are beyond stale they’re moldy.
any you’re especially lucky if you can watch the Olympics without the NBC commentary.
D’you suppose it’s because they’re too unsure of what these real progressives would say. They might actually speak the truth instead of the tired old platitudes. What a concept!!
Turn off the sound!!
Not having cable if I were a little closer to Canada I could watch CBC, generally better coverage (less jingoistic) but with the Games in Canada it might be different this time.
Good Morning!
I think that has a lot to do with it, that and they don’t like to go out of their comfort zone.
Where is perris? Isn’t it about time for the breakfast liveblog?
That said, I’m gonna go out to my local spot for breakfast this morning. Not Panera, although there’s one here, just a place that has good eggs, hashbrowns and sausage for not too many pennies. My reward to me for finishing my taxes yesterday!
No liveblog, tho. No wireless there. BBL.
They have their responses to the dependable dialogue all mapped out, I suspect – can’t imagine Gregory being able to adapt to real thinking.
And I was going to say about commentary; see “mute”.
I think they know exactly what they might say and the last thing the producers of the corporate media want is an alternative reality that challenges the status quo.
yeah, you’re both right. no rockin’ the boat allowed, prolly in their contract
McConnell whining about reconciliation on FNS
has to toss out all the luntzians: “Cornhusker Kickback, Louisiana Purchase, Gaotr Aid.”
*guffaw*
“I’m going to go there in good faith.”
“Will Obama move to the middle?”
He’s ALWAYS been in the middle!!!!
Tweety’s questions are always so profound.
Up or Down Vote.
Or in my case,I voted this morning with my remote.
MTP — blergh.
If you define center by poll results, O’s way to the right.
It’s being carried on the CTV Network this time around, and the Canadian TV coverage has been Head & Shoulders above NBC.
We actually talk about the Athletes from other Countries with reverence, and cheer them on, whether they win Gold or crash out competition.
If Boob Costas was any more self absorbed, he’d be a Sponge.
Obama is way to the right by any measure. As Senator, he voted for the Cheney energy bill. The man is a flaming neocon.
Tweety wants HRC in the Spotlight, so he can bare his misogynistic side …
Elliott !
Any Dem appearing on Faux Snooze disqualifies them as being coherent or sane. It’s not news, it’s propelling the propaganda, slinging the monkey shit. What moron doesn’t know this?
Petraeus on MTP saying DADT is being discussed in process now, one issue is how it ‘will affect troop readiness …and recruiting’. Now there’s your problem, Gen P, everyone will be scared away from serving. riiighhhht
Not if you’re Nate Silver … /s
Didn’t know about the energy bill vote. Thanks.
Shorter Betrayus: teh Gay is more destructive than IEDs !
Right, and don’t you suspect that his guests know to bring her up so he can get his rocks off looking like it just came up in conversation.
What’s his problem? Just an O tool?
The Dem Nomination race showed how deeply chauvinistic the MSM really are.
Pawlenty on MTP, ‘we;ve learned our lesson’, and ‘these are serious times’ – they’re running against themselves, folks.
Petro!
indeed
My guess is, he’s like Ross Douchehat … trying to move Lefties further to the right.
Unfortunately for them, that Hamsher gal won’t have any of it …
That’s what I remember about previous coverage by the CBC. The corporate media in the U.S, however, has an agenda as an instrument of propaganda in promoting the “uniqueness” and “exceptionalism” of all things “U.S.” As far as Costas, I’m once again reminded of Upton Sinclair’s quote, “you can’t expect someone to know something when their paycheck is dependent on them not knowing.”
Nice, Gregory even pushed Pawlenty on the stimulus jobs in his state, asks if he didn’t appreciate them… is the world coming to an end?
!!
Interesting.
NBC has been a huge disappointment, it would be nice if they did cover ALL the athletes, spotlighting the best of the best from around the globe.
Although the word “disappointment” suggests I expected anything else, I didn’t.
And why-o-why are they time delaying the west coast, almost cruel.
No, Gregory sees Maddow over his shoulder.
I think that’s actually seeing her ‘way over his head.
How impolite of him.
Do you think Pawlenty will refuse any further invitation to appear? I wish.
Heh.
Fox News AllStars start right out bombing Iran
Noonan thinks Pres O ought to have presented more centrist ideas to create ‘bipartisanship’.
oh for crissake
Funny I don’t remember her talking about bipartisanship during the Bush administration.
Mornin’, Elliott, pups
On Critical Times on WMNF this morning, Mabili played a segment of the interview of Michelle Alexander on Washington Journal yesterday. Her new book is titled The New Jim Crow. Well worth a watch. I’ll be ordering her book from my indy bookseller next week. A Book Saloon candidate?
On CNN, discussion about healthcare summit ends with Molinari whining about talk before it begins about reconciliation…willfully omitting her own Party of Nope’s plan to vote no before it begins…..
And the spin goes on….
oo,
I’ll suggest it, thanks!
But now the worst president in history isn’t a conservative anymore… (and I’m posting about that next hour at the Seminal/FDL).
Saw that, and it was as worthwhile as you say. A caller mentioned something I never had heard before, that the census counts prisoners in the rural, middle classed enclaves where prisons are located, which gives them benefits that their actual neighborhoods need more.
no wonder the electorate is disoriented.
Bullshit Baker spinning even harder than Molinari on GPS. On of the few times I’ve ever turned off that show.
Lots of Malcolm on my rad-eo this morning.
“They don’t hang you because you’re Baptist, they hang you because you’re black.”
Sorry you can’t all be watching TX teabagger for gov. candidate Medina, who thinks the question she got about 9/11 conspiracy theories – that she said raised good questions – was a plot by the other candidates. Seems like a padded wall would make a good background for her interview.
I’ve heard that discussed before. Got to keep the brown people down.
Messina = Medina
oooops, I see now it’s accepting my change.
She’s scheduled for March 27th!
Whoa, she must have already been scheduled.
Howie’s really swimmin’ in the sludge that is the for-profit Tigerpenis sex scandal industry this ayem. Buh-bye, Howie…
Time to go clean the dog poo outa the snowbanks. Might as well be able to do something about some of the shit anyway….
he does appear to suffer from penile envy
Matthews is such a pompous asshat. I hate the commercial for his show where he brags about supposedly shutting people down and humiliating them on the air.
