Early Show: Pato Banton and The Now Generation “Heal This World”
Late Show: Punch Brothers“Rye Whiskey”
Poodles!
Even if I’m not first, can I claim a dail-up zed?
I will gladly defer.
I guess all us old hippies must need their sleep. I remember a time not so long ago when there would be twenty zeds by the time one could type it and hit submit.
You never were a big fan of the zed, eh…? ;-)
Aloha, ES…!
I was always a ‘dez’ man myself.
Hi ES, CT, Newt, Drouse and all.
Krugman is now demanding the Public Option! About time but I’ll take it.
“Well, the main answer is stronger regulation; but it would also be a very good idea, politically as well as substantively, for the Senate to use reconciliation to put the public option back into its bill.” Something to smile about.
Dog is raining in our homeless folks again. How are you all tonight.
hey bb
Heh, zedz, zdez, and more.
Ya chase the tail that catches yer attention.
WRT to second vid, I saw Punch Brothers at a fest last year or year before . . . . .
This vid ES is much better than anything they did on stage.
But it don’t load up full and starts and stutters in the vid, likely MY bandwidth issues.
That Fesl? All classical, no bluegrass, and it was Chris Thile’s tribute to his loss of wife and family.
Snore.
Next!!!!
I don’t know much about anything but one thing I know fo sho, without a doubt…Ain’t Love Strange
“Let’s get together now…and heal this world…change the weather…love one another brother” Great mug shot of Frank Sinatra teenager. Kool stuff on the wall. A wind section a rythm section and all vocal ensemble. What’s not to like about Pato Banton and the new generation? Really great video for my taste easy tempo to relax by.
Very nice!
Yep, Love IS Strange . .
Really Strange, No No, Yay Ya!
Druze, as a recent dial-up emigrant (and my wi-fi leaves much to be desired), I feel your pain.
Is sumpin up with the reply function tonight?
Off to check out ES’s music gift.
hey sunny
i noticed a slight lag in page loading tonight too. and i have pretty fast toobz.
What’s on my mind?
:)
Just got the joyful word that the Obama Stimulus just created one new job.
Mine.
I start a week from Monday, 3 years to the day from when the same employer laid me off in the wake of a Medicare contract cutback.
The Director of HR called me at home tonight to make a formal offer. For more money than I’d been making, with full benes (I had been prepared to deal down).
I was starting to think that I was now forcibly retired (I’m 64). Wow.
It’s consulting with outpatient medical clinics to convert them to electronic medical records systems (same work I had been doing, though this is a new 4-year federal contract, “CMS Regional Extension Centers”).
Wow, wow, wow.
They like me. they apparently really, really like me.
I’ve been conking out sitting up here. We got several snows/ices/snows, so I’ve been shoveling for a week or so. Just a dab at a time, but I’m not used to it so I am tired. Today I got down to some ice and took my hoe to it. That’s one way to get in shape…:)
Thanks. Couldn’t get the “replying to” function… now I can :)
Oh my God, that’s wonderful! WHOO HOO!
I am so relieved. Gonna make the separation from my wife a lot more bearable.
Way, way cool!
Bravo!
Thanks, y’all. No more sleepin’ in ’til the crack of noon.
I am SO ready.
I don’t know if they like ya, but they hired ya.
Congrats, and blessings for gainful employment!!
I’m a hootin and hollering for ya!!!
wOOt!!!!!!!!
evening, firegods
Thanks. Beyond just my good fortune, this is in fact Obama stimulus money. A national set of 4 year contracts for health information technology. My old/new employer is hiring a bunch of people, as are other Medicare QIOs who got contract awards.
My HR Director told me she’d gotten more than 400 resumes (for about 10 slots).
I am so lucky.
Hi PPD, please send some of your weather my way, will you?
I’m down with the dyslexia. Spell-check is now a necessary evil to the point that I no longer know how to spell anything.
I added ‘gawd’ to my spell-check library exceptions.
May this spread to us plebians . . *G*
hi Margot — OH?
Well I’ll be dawged.
There it is.
Yessir.
Terrorist: Glenn Grenwald has an interesting piece on how that term is manipulated to justify all kinds of bad behavior by that label. http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/
Might be worth a short read although I passed on the 600 comments. “The Boggie Man” syndrome or painting people with the tar brush to justify the killing of civilians in Gaza, Iraq and Afghanistan. He covers a multitude of bad behavior that is done in the name of fighting terrorists. Enemy combatants defending their country are “Terrorists”. So I guess the Founding Fathers by that definition were terrorists. Getting very weird in wingnut world.
After 9/11 one of our asshat NV legislators introduced a bill defining “terrorism” as “any act that interferes with the legitimate activities of law enforcement.”
Not kidding.
I didn’t read Glenn today.
Some days a clear, sane view is a bit much.
Pennsylvania is ahead.
G20 protesters blasted by sonic cannon
I can’t believe anyone sat still for this.
Richard Holcombe was bragging a bit about the capture by CIA, Pakistani and American forces of the three Taliban leaders…while other sources say they are very quick to replace their leadership. So does that mean MIC thinks we are winning the hearts and minds of the “Middle East” places we are invading?
Maybe we should send the troops free CDs of Pato Banton and the new generation.
Funny I have had lifetime mild case and it can vary as to how difficult writing can be. So maybe with better rest and lower stress it will improve for you. Takes a lot of patients when you know what to say but it doesn’t come out right.
WHOMP!
There it is.
;-)
My eyes stink, and rest is certainly a factor.
But I suffer a lifelong affliction of, to borrow the phrase, “hotdog-fingers’ that contributes as well.
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen ES and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Just stopped in ‘cuz I can’t sleep and I don’t drink, so keep the tunes hot and the conversation hotter and I’ll run outta steam here in a couple a minutes…so it’s started in the streets in Pittsburg, huh? Maybe between the Teabag fascist airforce runnin into federal buildings and the storm troops called out for a couple a hundred protestors, folks will get pissed off enough to scare the congress critters into doin sumpthin in the next couple a weeks…waddiya think?
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THIS WAR IS OURS WHETHER WE LIKE IT OR NOT!!
Sadly, that was last September.
How the ‘authorities’ there still have jobs, friends and family, and liberty is beyond me. I saw that the day it happened and thought, “OK, now the ceiling is going to collapse on them.”
It never did.
Wow good link.
Kettling, Sonic cannons, mace, tazer, tear gas against civilian protesters. No wonder there is no anti war movement. Wonder if Amy Goodman and Jaun Gonzales saw that. Thanks for putting it out here.
They also have video cameras recording people. 1984 has arrived, Big Brother knows what is best for us?
I suspect Juan and Amy were all over it, although I didn’t see their reporting. But it is right up their ally.
The Patriot Act, indeed. Unleashed law enforcement is now the ground truth.
I’m sending over some California weather to Margot — sorry, you’ll have to live with Ohio’s climate.
Hoss, folks are about fed up.
But we got some new news about a Public Option, and recons.
Still holdin on, hoss, still holdin on.
When we the people STOP holdin on, the streets will swell with our presence.
And for DAMNED fuckin sakes, I wish someone would learn to spell patience, instead of patients.
I’ts pure ignorant.
Amy Goodman WAS arrested, and beaten.
End of story.
~~~ModNote: There are – I repeat – there are NO Spelling-Coppers on duty, and as there is a conversation pending about dyslexia…~~~
That was in Minnesota at the ’08 GOP convention, and not at the G-20 meeting in Pittsburgh, right?
reported on it: Pittsburgh Police Challenged over Use of Sound Cannons During G-20 and for Wrongfully Arresting Dozens of University of Pittsburgh Students
btw, the next mobilization i’m aware of in protest of g8/g20 actions is in canada in june. will be interesting to see how they (canadian police) respond.
I’m not generally in favor of book banning, but think an exception should be made for thesauruses and public officials.
My tolerance for euphemisms is past exhausted.
Citizen larue:
The time is about here, the folks at DFA and MoveOn and alotta other folks have been mobilizin’ the troops playin the game by their rules…time fo use the donor lists and petition signatures and addresses to ORGANIZE a million or two to meet in front of Mr. Lincoln if the dog and pony show doesn’t show some action on February 25th. The logistics are terribly 3 dimensional but with the internet and the grassroots groundwork already laid, there are enough folks out of work and “retired” that a couple a million would not be out of the question. I don’t know if you’re old enough Larue but when the next step is taken it’s a big one and it’s gotta be targeted right at the White House and the Democratic congress…we have it all over those courageous kids in 1968 ‘cuz we got nothin’ left ta lose. But there’s a lotta difference between talkin’ about mass action and puttin’ your ass on the line…think carefully and listen to your brothers and sisters, there is no turnin’ back when you take that step.
Outstanding. Thank you.
Hear hear.
can’t forget that one as jane and glenn were there reporting on it.
also, not over yet. recent email via listserv:
It is official. We torture and it is OK with Obama DOJ. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/19/justice-department-report_n_469608.html
Geneva convention and rules of war no longer respected. Senator Leahy firmed a committee to call witnesses on the matter February 26, 2010. Good for him.
Professor Loo said it is fine to slaughter a village.
—
UPDATE — 6:58 PM: Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) has announced that the Senate Judicial Committee will hold a hearing.
Citizen bigbrother:
Was the announcement covered on the nightly “news” or politics shows…MSNBC?
Olbermann had Jon Turley on to discuss.
You can imagine Professor Turley’s reaction.
Can anyone tell me how to delete a broadband connection I created in error?
It’s called broadband connection 2 and pops up periodically when I’m connected via wi-fi. (Win xp, Firefox)
on edit: this was not intended for bb, just a generally inquiry.
Citizen newtonusr:
No dear heart, I mean Leahy’s “hearings”…I think there are some theatrics that can be leveraged beginning with these “hearings” if nuthin’ comes outta Obama’s playtime with the Republicans on the 25th. When were the hearings announced and were they covered on the news shows…a late Friday dump means Leahy’s just goin thru the motions most likely.
Selise Thank you for the link
I watched the show like Kent State a bit restrained against killing. Our government against our constitutional right and the student chapter of the ACLU did a good job.
Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Nite all…I’ll check the replays in the AM…looks like we’re gunna hafta replay 1968 ta get some change we can believe in.
A couple of years ago I turned off Big Brother propaganda machine. No TV. Rhetorical question? Edited for inappropriate information for john Q Public.
Pardon…
Control Panel. Internet connections. Click to highlight the connect you do not want and remove or delete. Works for me. Good luck.
My dear Pally Wally Norske, I’m 57.
I was there, and I’m waiting to be there, again.
In the streets.
Can’t make it to DC, but Sac? No problem.’
When the masses swell, I’ll be there,
Thanks for all you do for the cause of progressivism and for the betterment of the we the people.
I’m with ya, in the foxhole, hoss.
I’m just savin my ammo and effort.
For the end game.
And it’s comin soon, doncha think . . . *G*
thanks
Was Seattle before or after PA?
Was Amy arrested and beaten in PA or in Seattle?
Guess I am mistaken?
the worst domestic type stuff like that i’ve personally witnessed was miami 2003 for the ftaa protests (bad, but nothing like kent state). democracy now! did a fantastic job, best i found, of reporting accurately what i saw and experienced while most were reporting the police lies as fact. so i absent other info, i go with democracy now! with amy goodman, juan gonzalez, jeremy scahill, et al. reporting for that kind of thing. imo they are a national treasure.
Awesome. MSNBC got it. Fox?
Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzolez (sp) are heroes, end of story.
My worst experience was in Palo Alto, 1970, for an anti war demo.
I was 17, I saw heads cracked.
End of my story.
Amy was arrested and assaulted Sept. 1, 2008 at the Republican National Convention in Minnesota.
oh well, night all. thanks for the late night company.
Yeah…
But Norske was right, although for different reasons. I have no idea what Leahy has in mind – bury the hearings or whatever. But I have watched and listened repeatedly to the USA firing hearing hearings, including Gonzales’ 3 appearances in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2007, and we all know where those went.
nite selise. sterling research.
Thanks, I knew I had something, but I had it wrong . . . again, thanks. ‘Preciate that.
In my mind, Minnesota was MUCH worse than Seattle was . . .
Again, thanks for the timeline deatails . . . . always love your input.
Yes. Absolutely.
When selise resurfaces tomorrow, ask her about Seattle.
nite you guys
I’m out too. Sweet dreams all.
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins, Blow and Herbert this morning. Ms. Collins, in “The Wages of Rages,” says politicians often get into trouble when they’re trying to sound more furious than they feel. Mr. Blow, in “Spirit Quest,” says young adults are looking for spirituality but not necessarily through organized religion. Like they’re the first generation in all the history of mankind to do that… He succeeded in making me want to go out and find a young person to slap, though. Mr. Herbert, in “Falling Further Behind,” says ignoring the sad state of our nation’s schools and infrastructure will hurt us. Will hurt us? Last time I looked bridges were already collapsing.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got waffles with warm maple syrup for breakfast. Three spears of asparagus have poked up, so they may be telling me that there will be a spring this year. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they’re right. Have a great day.
Hi, sposed to get warm today!
Good morning all.
Oh, you’re just fishing for a response.
Kidding….morning hip chick bee lady.
Waving to demi.
What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods?
Bill Moyers has written another good one:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bill-moyers/what-are-we-bid-for-ameri_b_469335.html
He says “Our government is not broken; it’s been bought out from under us, and on the right and the left and smack across the vast middle, more and more Americans doubt representative democracy can survive the corruption of money.”
Good Saturday morning, you earlybird pups! Where’s PUAC? Did Deveria sleep in?
It’s been above freezing for several days, got up to 41 yesterday, but windy, so not bicycling. If it’s less windy today, I’m heading out on the wheels. How about your weather?
Rainy. I prefer sunshine. Tapping my foot, waiting for spring to sprung.
Hey, Moll. Yeah, where is she?
PUAC is up.
