U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., is using her call out as MSNBC host Keith Olbermann’s “Worst Person in the World” as a fundraising draw, saying she’s wearing it “like I’ve won a gold medal at the Olympics.”
Olbermann, well-known for his occasional “worst person” attacks, singled out Blackburn for her continued interest in permitting young people to privatize their Social Security contributions. He suggested the plan would allow young people to “get wiped out the next time the mortgage industry or some other form of legalized gambling wipes out a chunk of the economy.”
Why run on your legislative record, and what you’ve done for the people of your district?
Much better to run against that there teevee man, who says mean things about conservatives.

That’s one of those obvious things to do that will never pass the lips of Very Serious People. Ditto Cuba for last 50 years. The purpose of sanctions in not to change the regime, but to punish it.

In articles such as these, yes. The news most people get, however, usually adds that energy and food prices went up whatever at the end of the item. 9 O’clock NPR headlines just now a prime example.

The offical BLS release emphasizes the whole index, including food & energy, at the beginning. It’s the third paragraph where the ex-food & energy is discussed.

I’d like to see each month the inflation calculated under the pre-Greenspan rules – remove “replacement” that pretends there is no inflation if steak goes up but you replace your steak purchase with hamburger at the previous steak price, and remove the “quality improvement” that says you didn’t really pay 20% more for the same model car because this years car has a stereo that now plays mp3 format cd’s plus the air conditioning can get 5% colder and that improvement cost all the extra dollars you paid compared to last years model – indeed disk drives on new pc’s this year hold 250meg compared to last years 180 meg so the price actually went down.
There is a web site that does this – but then is it really inflation or are we just adjusting our standard of living downward?
