Stimpocrisy
news flash to obama;
we did NOT “avoid a depression”, we’ve been in a depression for at least 7 years with a slight respite under clinton
and since he is clearly out of touch, we’re still in a depression, people are forced into lower paying jobs or no job, their assets have declined, their savings and their hopes for retirement
PLUS if he used his “stimulous funding” for actual job programs instead of his rediculous “trickle down scheme” there would be FAR more jobs and far more “growth”
Yoo heckled at Johns Hopkins. Sgtudents held a placard reading Try Yoo for Torture while he spoke.
She’s been on this kick for the past several days. Finally it appears that the democrats have noticed. I got this email this morning from the democratic party that started out:
“It’s a breathtaking display of public hypocrisy.
At least 116 Republican governors, senators, and representatives have spent the past year railing against the Recovery Act, while simultaneously requesting funds to create jobs in their districts and taking credit for projects at ribbon-cutting ceremonies.
As the independent PolitiFact put it, they’re trying “have their cake… and vote against it too.” They know the Recovery Act is creating jobs, but they think attacking it will bring them victory in the 2010 elections.
Not so fast. We’re preparing to meet every hypocritical attack with press conferences in states across the nation and a rapid-response program to fact check every lie. But we need your help to make it happen.”
And then, of course, asks for money.
I think Rachel will continue on this subject…the democrats have been a little slow. Also Marcy called out the Michigan Republican hypocrites in Michigan. The word is spreading!
Thanks for posting the video.
oops, I meant moving towards depression with slight respite under clinton and a clear depression for at least 7 years
in a rush to get to breakfast
Caffeine, stat!
he’s pretty good at not only ignoring those signs but acting as if he full expects them with no worries what so ever
his public face IN the face of those demonstrations is pretty good
yup
switched to green tea, seems to treat me better but does not do the same good for my mornings as coffee
There’s nothing like the self-confidence of an ideologue.
I recommend Constant Comment Green Tea — love the stuff. I was a huge coffee drinker for years, don’t drink it at all any more. Your body gets accustomed to the reduced caffeine in tea after a few weeks.
I will look for constant comment green tea
I have to say I am LOVING my physical reaction to non coffee
I am a man after all and I thought I had some prostrate problems (I did not) but switching to green tea gets me through the night as opposed to having to wake up a few times
for all the men (and possibly women but I don’t know about that)
if you can’t get through the night without more then a couple of trips, try getting off coffee, it worked for me, it seems it’s some kind of irritant to plenty of people who don’t even know it
Mornin’, BT, pups
I got a survey from the DNC yesterday. One page intro, 1 page of rate Obama’s performance, 1 page of prioritize issues and 1 page of fundraising. Went straight into the trash. Lame attempt to raise money.
Sodas with caffeine do the same thing. Never liked green or herbal teas. I drink either Oolong or Black tea from China or Taiwan, organic when it’s available.
Wow, is she saying that Republican politicians are hypocrites? What a scoop! Man, it’s a good thing that Democrat politicians aren’t hypocrites, eh?
I got one too. But I filled it out and commented after nearly every question and put it back in the mail…with no check. I know nobody will read it, but I felt better afterwards….
Do you think they even bother to read the survey should someone actually fill it out? Personally I think they merely rifle through the envelope looking for the check.
Good to know that Rachel is keeping the heat on the Republicants. Wish the same could be said for NPR. Listened to their “take” on Obama’s deficit commission and it had a blatant right wing bias. Any progressive, liberal or moderate that gives money to NPR isn’t listening closely.
Obama Second Depression not a possibility? Nope
Cantor says the GOP has offered alternatives to the Stimulus? Sure but tax cuts don’t create jobs or demand for goods after all who’s to say tax cuts won’t be invested in other countries?
GOP alternatives to the Stimulus suck.
My guess is they tabulate the responses from those who donated, the others go where mine went.
Rachel called herself a Commie I think her writers read the lake:)
I want more Stimulus!
It’s not just men, although of course men have prostates and we femmes don’t. But it’s age, too. I don’t drink coffee at all, and I don’t drink much of anything in the evening except a glass of wine on weekend nights, and I still get up at least once in the night, sometimes more. I think it depends on how soundly I’m sleeping.
Constant Comment is a Bigelow tea, and they’ve had it in their regular tea lineup for years. Has a subtle orange and spice taste, not overwhelming — but then, I’m used to it. Bigelow has a whole line of green tea now, including Earl Grey, Constant Comment, and some fruity flavored varieties I haven’t tried.
And as for the topic at hand, I’ve been a little bit surprised that Rachel (AFAIK) was first out of the gate with the hypocrisy stuff and I haven’t heard anyone, including Keith, give her that credit. Perhaps it was covered elsewhere earlier, but even in the blogs I read, nobody (except FDL) has said that she started it. Maybe she didn’t?
( minutes 30 seconds bashing the GOP for lying this is exactly what I want to see more of.
I agree. I heard the same slant this morning and it made me very annoyed. I have listened to NPR since at least the mid 80s, and it’s gotten really biased in the past few years.
Great work on the Rachael Maddow show… I send thses to my repooplican friends… You need to see their comebacks… OMG they are hilarious!
I did the same thing with mine and added a nasty comment on the fundraising page.
Cool repeat a message so it sticks in people’s minds.
I want better stimulous but I believe better direction for those funds might be kicking in this year
time will tell, I am still looking for a reason to believe he’s on the right track
CPAC is having its annual meeting starting today or tomorrow? I thought CPAC just had its annual meeting. How many annual meetings do they have annually?
Try Yerba Matte

Sometimes I get the same sort of questionnaire from the Republicans. Usually I just seal their postage-paid return envelope and drop it in the mail empty. Although sometimes the questions are so irritating that I just have to comment. I don’t know why I’m on their mailing list. Maybe everyone is.
Way cool!
Obama doing Town Halls on jobs why unless he wants another Stimulus bill? After all if Obama just wanted to defend his past record well Rachel is doing that quite well.
I think we might be getting a second Stimulus forcing the GOP to vote against jobs before the election would be a smart political move.
Hey, Dragon -
Two different conservative idjit groups…like one of ‘em ain’t enough?
Ha! I did the same thing with an RNC letter. I think I got it because I am registered as “decline to state” for party and they don’t know that my choice is usually between the Dems or the Greens. Anyhow, I had fun marking up the questionnaire to make the questions not so slanted and then in the donation boxes checked “Other” and wrote in “Go piss up a rope.” Made me feel better letting them pay $0.44 for my $0.02.
Whoa! We drink yerba mate at our house due to Argentine heritage and it comes with a warning: it has a bitter taste which we like, but not everyone does and it has a major caffeine kick. So if you are trying to lower caffeine intake, mate is not the thing. But it is easy on the digestion and has the same, erm, triggering effects as coffee in the morning.
Yup, it does feel good, and the postage adds up….although more noticeably than our 2 cents.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
icasualties.org is down. Using antiwar.com’s figure for Irak. Their figure for Afghanistan differs by -30 from icasualties.org’s yesterday.
US KIA Irak: 4,376
US KIA Afghanistan: 990
Iraki and Afghan casualties: estimates vary to over 1.5M
US MBS 2010: 5,952 and counting
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
I’m almost exclusively a tea drinker (one cup of coffee at work in the morning, that most times I don’t even finish), and sleep like a baby all through the night. If I go out to dinner and make the mistake of having coffee after dinner I whirl like a dervish all night long, can’t sleep, and make at least one trip to the loo. Yay tea!
Your absolutely right Perris;this is just another scheme of redistribution of trillions more from the US Treasury to the banksters.
If they truly wanted to spur the real economy, they could of sent every household with 100,000 net worth or less,a 50,000 dollar voucher, good towards goods and services, and we would have seen the economy come back overnight.
For the life of me,I cannot understand why these Democrats have continued on this road of shock and awe economics?
I thought about that but felt better throwin’ it in the trash. It shows their mailing list is out of date. I switched back to Independent after the primaries in 08.
I really like your idea tho I’d add one qualifier: 100% U.S. made goods or services.
This would be a fun survey as to how people would spend their vouchers, and how it would affect the economy.
Thanks for a stimulating idea!
karen
It’s so rare for Rachel to get combative like that. She’s the most level headed person on MSNBC and prides herself in being fair and level headed. I really kind of feel sorry for them. It’s pathetic how they are in their own little worlds.
Another day, another same old stuff. Republicans are hypocrites? Wow, thanks for the heads up Rachel. Who would have known without you getting paid to point that out? Isn’t it time these media talking heads, actually do REAL reporting? I mean, come on, sure Fox and the other corporate stooges are Republican hacks, but is there really a need for Dem hacks? Why don’t they start reporting unbiased news. I know, it’s a novel idea, but it is to the point I don’t watch any of these shows anymore or their clips. Ya, we know. We know already. If these hacks think that by pointing this exact same stuff out every day, is going to influence anyone, they are sadly mistaken. The ones that don’t get it, don’t watch these shows. At. All. Same with Keith Olberman. Wow. Worst persons segment has been almost the exact same people for 8 years running. We get it.
Let’s see, in Feb, the BLS announced that the data on the numbers of Jobs LOST during during 2009 was wrong. By 617,000…… http://news.firedoglake.com/2010/02/05/job-loss-goes-up-jobless-rate-down/
That brings the total to what around 4.8 million for 2009? And many say that’s UNDERESTIMATED ….. http://www.businessinsider.com/trimtabs-heres-why-the-real-jobs-loss-number-was-5x-worse-than-what-the-bls-reported-2010-2
But the politicians and Bankers have saved us right? Quibble over the stimulus. Overall, it didn’t work. Indeed the OVERALL jobs picture is what is important. A massive amount of debt is being produced. The Government of the Oligarchs is fighting to convince the people that what they do for themselves is good for us. Another version of the trickle down scam. They use such far fetched concepts as spending having a “multiplier” effect. Really? The only thing that multiplies is their wealth and their power.
Oh yeah, one other thing multiplies is the number of lobbyists in DC feeding themselves and the special interests they represent at the cost of the taxpayers. Last year, over $1 Billion was spent for Lobbies. A great deal, especially since they actually write the legislation and get a HUGE return from the effort. Nothing has changed. In fact it’s even worse.
You are absolutely spot on correct.
I found that recovering from Catholicism helped my “prostrate” problem. ;)
Republicans are right. Part of the stimulus was tax cuts that we can’t afford and are not creating any jobs…
Most voters don’t even know what that word “hypocrisy” means. We should use the word “liar” and I don’t think it would be even slightly inaccurate. Plus just about everybody knows what it means. I think we liberals often make the mistake of overestimating the intelligence and civility of conservatives. You know they would never use a big word like hypocrite, they know how ignorant the average voter is and they do not hesitate to take advantage of that ignorance. Neither should liberals.
I got an email form Tim Kaine titled “Breathtaking Hypocrisy” which should have been titled “Bold Faced Liars” and it would have been no less accurate but much easier for the average voter to understand. Think about it…
Obama OBVIOUSLY meant the stimulus saved us from a second GREAT depression….if you think we’ve only had 2 “depressions” in the history of America then you’re ignorant.
This whole idea of “Obama looking to the past” when he criticizes Bush is just a Republican’s way of worming out of the conversation so they don’t appear at fault. We HAVE to address history and mistakes previously made because we need to make sure that they don’t happen again.
The economy took about 6 or 7 years to decimate….and these so-called “fiscal” conservatives think we can be back to where we were in UNDER a YEAR?? Do EDUCATED Americans ACTUALLY take these people for their word? Or are all Republicans high-school and college dropouts?
Obama is absolutely NOT out of touch, as a matter of fact, he’s definitely the SMARTEST man we’ve had in the White House in DECADES. He’s the only President we’ve had in years who knows what the hell he’s talking about.
Imagine if Dems. had used filibuster over a hundred times, blocked nominees from gaining office (which, in turn, delays public offices from helping citizens), or had thrown all their beliefs to the curb to prove some sort of point…..they would be labeled “unpatriotic” and definitely be accused of standing in the way of the business of the people.
It’s time for Dems. to start giving them a taste of their own medicine…I thought Republicans were the ones who were all about “questioning” their gov’t…..why don’t they start with their Republican representatives? Or is it NOT TRUST anybody but those in their own party?
The stimulus comes down to Econ. 101 people….if you’re debating the route this Admin took to stifle the depression, you obviously didn’t graduate high school.
I wish I could understand Republican mentality, but the more I try, the more I realize that it’s more of an ABSENCE of mentality than anything and an abundance of negative emotions that is their driving force.
I love Rachel…I wish she’d run for senate.
