As KO pointed out, it is unfortunate that “global warming” was adopted as the original terminology, because it does lend itself to misinterpretation (and to being misrepresented). Climate change is a much better term, and there are lots of scientific FACTS to support it.

Climate change deniers rank right up there with the birthers and the rest of the wingnuts in my estimation.

In the mid-Hudson region it was was worst year for honeybees in a very long time. Torrential rains in June, the max month for pollen and nectar gathering, washed the pollen off & diluted the nectar. Of the couple hundred hives my beekeeper attends, mine was one of the healthiest. I had enough honey for the bees to live the winter, but not enough to harvest any. February is the diciest month. The queen starts to lay again, but there’s no new food, so they have to have enough honey stored to live off of until later in March when some flowers start to appear.

Most deniers appear to Believe that Gawd would not allow the world to be anything but subservient to them what Believe.

Yet, sometime, possibly very soon, if Sarah has anything to say about it (Jeb has been strangely cool on warming issues, but that will change if he sniffs opportunity), the Believers are going to be “Raptured” straight up to their Heavenly Mansions.

Would it offend the deniers to be termed “Rapturists”?

I suggested Beckers for his mindless fans, but I do not know if that is specific enough for you.

Deniers is what I am settling on, as in denying the truth. So the camps are starting to shake out on do you or do you not want to know the truth about various things. Truthers and deniers.

I put birthers in the denial camp. Beck and Palin are their public leaders and their agenda is … complex. The denier agenda is worth attempting to catalog.

Olbermann is about as earnest about politics as Beck. They’re both first class media shills. NBC wouldn’t have stacked up so heavily behind Obama in 2008 if they weren’t hitting strong demos and ratings. Zucker could care less about politics. KO was calling the game like a sportscaster which is his background anyway. Taking political cues from someone like Olbermann is like repeating after cheerleaders at a football game…2 – 4 – 6 – 8…who do we appreciate.

The choir I sing in is doing a pops concert with the symphony, and we’re closing with “Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In” and we are supposed to change from our concert dress to “hippie” clothes. That prompted me to dig out a photo of me from those years, and I was wearing a very mini skirt and a tunic that came nearly to the hem of the skirt, and patent leather go-go boots, and my hair was parted in the middle and styled in a flip. My then-husband was sporting muttonchop sideburns. SHUDDER.

As usual it’s the Dem’s fumble of the message.Sigh.

Fields’ son wrote a bio of his dad. Funny read. My favourite quote out of it but never seen outside of the book is when Fields was asked why he never drank water. From memory:

“Water? You wanna know why I don’t drink water? Cuz fish fuck in it, that’s why.”

To me a fact is something that is indisputable and without doubt and while I don’t know for sure I believe that AGW is still considered a theory. But your point is well taken.

Regardless, my larger point is you can’t deride those who point to a lot of snow as evidence that AGW isn’t real and then point to a lack of snow that it is – very disappointing and standard wingnut protocol.

So just the happy ones then?

Recently I went to a lecture by Keith Devlin (the Math Guy on NPR) who answered a question about why people were having such trouble grasping the concept of climate change. His answer was interesting: that people have trouble conceiving of exponential changes. He said that we notice incremental changes in our daily lives but in terms of additivity or multiplicity.

But I do not recommend nonexponentiators for your snappy name. I think deniers will do just fine. Sorta fits with the reality-based world vs the deniers of reality in general.

I would think that Harry Reid would have been nominated for worst person in the world as he knocked the pins out from under the Democrats and Obama’s strategy of painting the GOP as not cooperating or being bipartisan in one fell swoop.

His rejection of the worked out job’s bill took care of all that preparation and positioning that Obama has done since the Brown election. Harry left Obama with a toy gun in his hand at the OK corral.

This applies whether the jobs bill was good or not.

Non-religious conservatives *choose* not to believe in climate change because it’s an “inconvenient truth” (thanks, Al), and it might mean that they won’t be able to get enough money from the money tree. So they indulge themselves in mocking Al Gore & dfh liberals in an attempt to deny reality staring them in the face (some people I know if this ilk are even scientists).

Religious conservatives mostly go with the adage that whatever is happening on planet Earth is just “god’s plan.” If that ends up meaning that the planet goes to hell in handbasket – eh? so what. Because the fundies have C Street Family ministers selling them on the notion that THEY (and only they) will be raptured away before it gets intolerable for them and theirs. And because the C Street christiansist push prospertiy christianity on these money addicts, they also don’t want to disturb the money tree with any “inconvenient truths.”

I doubt that either branch of rightist will every go beyond the denial stage unless or until things get so amazingly bad – and they’re not raptured away – that they just have to pay attention. But that’s why crooks like Pat Robertson say the earthquake in Haiti happened because the people were devil-worshippers. It’s all part of the same theme. If anything bad happens, it’s because you didn’t obey “god’s law.” But obeying “god’s law” pretty much boils down to saying you believe in Jesus and sending some crook a ton of money. The end.

I was going to suggest looking up the definitions for the word “theory,” but I took a quick look at Wikipedia and see that they have a lot on the word and it’s usage. Climate change is, was, and always will be a theory, but it is not at all hypothetical. At least that’s the way it appears to me, up in the cheaap seats.
