Louis Armstrong and Johnny Cash — Blue Yodel No. 9 from The Johnny Cash Show, October 28, 1970.
What’s on your mind?
Aloha, Suz…!
aloha ct — how’s paradise tonight?
Man, I had to head down to the lobby to get that zed…! I guess the rainy weather is creating sucky wifi…!
rain? ya must be happy that ya finally got some rain dood
hi suz–drive by on way to bed. how are things in OR?
Our brown grass was screaming for it…! Dayam, The great Satchmo and Johnny…! Who’d a thunk…? ;-)
hey spur — windy and wet — how’s the bay area tonight?
was wondering if anyone was gonna notice … i stumbled across it — and loved satchmo’s joke before they started the song
I can picture you wandering around the lobby, laptop extended … as do I!
pre- wet and windy. (nice today, but supposed to rain tomorrow.)
hey ce — how’s ohio (or are ya headed to pa)?
ya had a nice break in between rains — always a good thing
There’s about 4 of us on laptops down here…! ;-)
Isn’t it funny? It was 40 years from the ’30 Satchmo original piece to the ’70 Johnny Cash show, and 40 years from there to here.
Kinda funky time symmetry…
Snowball comes zinging through the air towards the coast of Oregon from DC Snowmageddon….snowball realizes the thrower isnt in DC at the moment…heads on north to ET territory
oy — but a nice way to get to know your neighbors bonding over sucky wifi
We will try to head out tomorrow, about 9:30 am. Eight hour drive. Driveway is now clear (huge, super horrible driveway). Will let you know when we arrive.
true. anyway we needed the rain. well, off to bed (wimpish i know but i have to get up early). happy hunting, and hope to see you at the next meetup. nite
Well, the better half just got back from the Women’s group at the Salvation Army…! Fingers crossed that I’ll have some wifi upstairs…! If not Caio…! *g*
egregious (yes i used your full name)!!! that forking snowball bounced off my storm clouds and it zinging back to ya via the homing beacon
hey kelly — how’s denver tonight?
thanks ce :)
g’nite spur
fingers and toes crossed dood
Holy cow — Louis Armstrong and Johnny Cash?! Cueing it up to listen now…
Hi Suz, hi pups. We survived two blizzards in the space of 5 days here in DeeCee.
hey ll — glad ya survived. watch out — eg is tossing snowballs
I used to walk all around the town of Lewes, DE, looking for any wifi!
Success so far…!
It’s freakishly warm for Feb! Porch therm says 29, and it was about 45 today.
Supposed to be the same for at least 4,5,6 days.
If it rains before March, I will totally freak. Not.Supposed.To.Rain.Till.April.
(((LL)))
Aloha, Long time…! *g*
woohoo
Suz, as I said in an email to a retired coworker: the tour from hell is over!
*wings a snowball over to eg*
Good lord Suz, what a fine FINE pick . . . Satchmo . . . please, he wrote the book on it all.
With The Man In Black? Wow.
Great pick.
And they are doing a Jimmie Rodgers song, He Being The Singing Brakeman, The Man Of The Train.
Here’s some Jimmie Rodgers, doin his thang . . Yodel #1
Great pick Suz . . . really delightful . . . snif, IGBOBLAB.
we finallly got a february storm up here — never did get any real january storms — they headed down to ca last month. today was the first day in almost a month that it was only 43 for a high today. 40′s were the lows in jan
Aloha ((( CT ))) !
hey larue — how’s sac tonight?
hi LL, was your work a nightmare?
I was surprised at how much available open wifi there is in Hilo town…! All kinds of hot spots…! ;-)
Suz, that video is a fantastic find — loved Louis mopping his brow at the end ;-)
only thing worse than getting snowed in is getting snowed in at work
per the utube description, it was one of his last performances….he passed july of 71
Hey Sunny! Well, it was, er, interesting ;-) Involved hotel stays for most of us, especially over the weekend; nobody could make it home during the first storm. I elected to tough it out this last go ’round and didn’t have any trouble getting back and forth. Work was a bit crazy though.
Imagine my surprise when years ago, we found people parked outside our house, in cars, looking for free internet…
hey sunny — how ya doing?
evening, Suz & firedogs
hey ppd — how’s the south south bay?
good thanks – just another crummy day in paradise
Betcha it was crazy. We were wondering. You do dispatch, no?
Suz, this is just great, thanks for finding it!
LL so good to see you. I’m going to try to get out tomorrow using my handy roofing material for tire traction.
hey margot –thanks, how ya doing?
Yes I sure do, mostly for the fire department. We had the National Guard helping our guys and gals in the field, employing their Humvees to reach patients and get them out of the snow. First time in my career that I’ve ever heard “roger” over the fire radio ;-)
Hey Margot! So you’re socked in as well? Be careful when you try to get out…take it slow!
I was wondering about that, he was so frail looking . . . what a legacy he left us, from early 30′s forward.
His influence on music then was second only to the work of Scott Joplin in the 1890′s and early 1900′s.
The transition from classical to the New Orleans rolls . . . blues notes, and all that spawned the music that went up the river to the north . . . . lots of it influenced the country and grass and old timey from 20′s forward.
Satchmo was a leader, a huge leader.
I remember a Christmas Eve storm years ago when nurses were working a 12 hour shift in the ICU, and then they had to stay and work another 12 because no one could get to the hospital to relieve them.
Doing great, thanks. Wild winds yesterday, gusts up to 55 mph. Uber clear how lousy my insulation is.
lol — musta had some funny radio moments…
Heh, old habits die hard for us military folk…! ;-)
Roads are cleared right now, but it just keeps snowing. And there’s black ice, so that’s why I’m cautious.
we had gusts between 53 and 63 earlier but they are now back down to the 30′s and 40′s…. this old house is drafty
From what I hear, people around here with 4WD were really stepping up and helping out at the hospitals, ferrying nurses and docs back and forth — warms the heart :-)
It was funny at times — they have their protocols and we have ours ;-) But we made it work, and we’re so grateful for their help.
Roger that ;-)
Oh, and we had roof collapses at two of our firehouses — made things just that more interesting. One of our fire companies is living and running out of the bingo hall!
were they running outta your stations and with your crews ll?
Glad there was nat’l guard available to help. Roger’s cool *g*
yikes!!!
Eeek, dominating the conversation here…going to look for a utube to share ;-)
Fine Suz, and how are you?
its not dominating when we are all asking questions ll — but quarters in the jukebox are always welcome :)
warm and toasty inside while the house creaks like a wooden ship on stormy seas…. token is partially under the stove.. bailey curled up on ‘her’ chair back….
Here Comes The Sun
Dedicated to the sun, and to the start of the snow melting efforts around here!
aint no sunshine
i got sunshine
May You Never — John Martyn
more sunshine
music from the WH tonight was pretty good
i’ve not heard that before…
Wow that’s beautiful.
was it on pbs tonight?
One of my faves, Suz — I was introduced to him via the magic of my XM radio, else I’d probably never had heard of him.
Glad you liked it Margot :-)
Like that LL! Very nice.
Hi Suz and pups.
i miss kpig — it’s not the same listening to it online — got an hd radio but pickins are pretty slim here on the coast — easy listening, country, or classic easy listening.
hey emerson — how ya doing tonigh?
Hey emerson!
I was just checking my netflix queue and thought I would just stop by and say hi and I wish that all that crap dropping out east could be added to our snowpack. Three years of drought just plain sucks.
from WETA in DC
hey drouse — lotsa folks could use that snow indeed. how ya doing?
drouse, I’d gladly pack this all up and ship it to you, wherever you are… we are so over it!
back home today Suz. Then back to Napa Sunday. Spence doesn’t know if he’s coming or going. *g*
ha! at least he travels well — bailey doesn’t
That was an awesome tune…! ;-)
Glad you enjoyed it CT! :-D
Good Day Sunshine
true-doesn’t care much for the carry bag, though. Want to let him roam, but I know he’ll just park himself in my windshield.
What…? Tired of talking to yourself at the Beach Haus, M’dear…? *g*
Oooh, another fave :-)
most excellent choice pellora — not heard that in years! thanks — how ya doing tonight?
hi emerson, good to see your fonts! (tm suz)
Hot Fun In The Summertime
Sun is Shining, Bob Marley
Having a good night y’all?! Glad the snow has stopped in the east, that some rain is falling in Hawaii and Oregon. Hope California dries up a bit. Hope the Sierra get more snow.
Be Well.

I’m fine! Good to see you LL – been a long long time. Hi CT! Yes, I end up talking to myself a lot it seems. :( Was lurking here, but the sunshine brought me out.
g’nite pellora
That’s one of my favorite songs. Happy sigh
Hi sunny! Hope you’re staying warm back there.
Yikes, running out of steam here after the tour from hell…looking forward to three days off to recover. Thanks Suz, happy as always to chat with you, and thanks pups! G’night all!

Everybody take care and be well.
I am going to bed this time. Peace.
g’nite for realsies pellora
I’ve got kid art on my fridge! Third grade girl pal made me a huge valentine.
Didn’t realize how much I missed kidlet stuff.
More Sunshine for ya!
This may take a while to download, Margot, but it should work.
http://www.thefilter.com/Music/climax-blues-band/A-Lot-Of-Bottle/12255636-Brief-Case
i miss kidlet art on my fridge — the magnets seemed so lonely without it i ended up with a plain door.
a classic!
Enough of a break for me to cook up some spares for the group potluck tomorrow. Hoope it helps convince them to keep me after the 6th. :-(
sunshine on my shoulder
Memories of 7th grade-good ones!
hey that guy — fingers and toes crossed for ya dood — how ya doing otherwise?
Aloha, LL…! Always a pleasure to see your fonts…! *g*
Aloha, M’dear…! ;-)
Man — you know it’s over for California when you have to sit through sixty seconds of Meg Whitman running to replace the Governator.
so glad i moved
so glad i moved
so glad i moved
Great teevee version, Suz. Great song, too.
I’m getting to be pretty quick on that mute button thanx to Meggie, Constitution.
g’mule has a reggae version of it in addition to old school
The Beautiful Lie…!
Dans mon ile
what could be worse? On yeah, a Winter Olympic Games without snow
starts tomorrow with no snow in the forecast — gonna be snow on the runs and mud elsewhere :(
You know what I’m tired of? The “We need to run California like a business!”
No. It’s not the same deal. We are not employees of California. We are citizens. I know everyone hates politicians, but business people don’t have such a great track record these days either.
I WANT a good administrator. I want someone who understands that Citizens of the state are not just like shareholders. We have different needs and it’s not always about maximizing return to shareholders.
As Governor tell us how you would have handled the Enron Crisis? What did you do as a CEO that would be the same as deciding live or death decisions like death row pardons.
And I want to know how you would stand up to the people who are destroying this state–the Republican no-tax increases ever- people?
Will you take Warren Buffet’s advice to Arnold and work to repeal Prop 13?
Your proposals are nonsense when it comes to “cut waste” it’s time to figure out how to gain revenue.
hey spocko — how ya doing tonight?
Whitman is Wall Street’s wet dream hack to run the 7th largest economy in the world …. taking a cut of the action as she crashes the ship of state into the black hole deficit and finish what Schwarzenegger hasn’t yet wrecked.
i remember when ca was the 5th largest economy….
Thank You!!
fingers crossed here TG.
maybe I can commission a piece of refrigerator art for ya ;-)
yeah, but I like this better. I’m pretty impressed with bands appearing on the live teevee circuit. No editing going on.
You’re welcome. *g*
Do you really think enough Californians will actually vote to increase their taxes…? Mind you, it was a completely asinine popular referendum from the get go…!
Meg is pretty proud of her record. Can’t figure out why.
oooooooooo thanks sunny
yup — i love to look for stuff that is live — i’ll feature a music video if that is all there is or if it is an exceptional video. lotsa the old tv stuff is lip synced :(
Good. Today I began the process of fighting some right wing Nuts
Not sure what to recommend, Spocko … the system is so corrupt with choices like Whitman, Feinstein, Boxer, Campbell, Maldonado, even Jerry Brown.
They’ll all run campaigns on steering the USS California away from those nasty icebergs, when it’s been wrecked and on the ocean floor for the past five years.
I guess it could be worse — Palin makes Schwarzenegger sound like a genius.
most excellent spocko
yeah, it’s a drag when there is great youtube audio, but the vid is off a beat.
i find great songs with lousy video and/or audio when looking for live stuff — certainly nowhere good enough to front page
I’ve been fighting them on a football website, which has me a bit worried. Just couldn’t stand any more stupid comments.
Which record, emerson?
Her record of not voting in any elections for the past twenty years — yeah, people should cast their vote for someone who knows the value of a vote. She’s a graduate of the Joseph P. Kennedy School of Political Science:
My rep George Miller is one of the better ones. He only pisses me off once a quarter…
Miller’s a rare exception — a progressive who represents his constituents, mostly.
Why she’s Little Ms. Goldman Sachs, isn’t she?
I like mine too… Mazie Hirono…! ;-)
Yeah, I refused to post vids about 3 times now for the same reason.
Suz, do you know if FDL filled that Asst. Editor position?
i was glad to trade anna escho for kurt schrader
i’ve not heard anything — as far as i know apps are still being taken
thanks.
Recently in the UK, Gordon Brown told the truth about their elected government’s role in doing to their constituents what they do to their mistresses.
http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2010/02/government-hedonism/
Is Brown moving a little left, or is that just me?
the jobs page for asst editor doesn’t have a closing date (at least one that i noticed during a quick scan)
Thanks, Suz.
He’s adopted say anything to keep his PMship alive politics.
Tomorrow, it will be something else.
time for some sleep — night all
g’nite ppd
Figures. When he criticized torture, I thought they must be getting close to elections.
Suzanne I know you have some background in this area. Right now a bunch of people are getting together to show up with their handguns at resturants to honor the 2nd amendment. The guns are unloaded. The gun is on the left side the bullets are on the right. They know it is all legal in California. They did this last week in Walnut Creek. They are doing it Saturday in San Lenadro.
Peers coffee said no to them. Starbucks came out with a statement that said they comply with all laws. They were pushed into supporting these people. They threatened someone staring a “boycott starbucks because the hate the 2nd amendment”
campaign.
I’ve got to actions in motion. One is to help starbucks with their “soft” answer ” Starbucks is about people feeling comfortable in the location”. Direct them to use their own mission statements.
The other is Im going to find their insurance carrier and alert them that if Starbucks keeps this up they will find themselves paying more money”
finally the goal is to mess up their media message. I’m gathering info. One is to show how LEO don’t like it and how this is not something the gun community likes either. (like the way Fox uses blue dog democrats to critize I’ll find NRA members who disagree with this show off of their guns deal. I’ll also help the business community to not have to be afraid to offend these people.
g’nite United.
wow — another reason to not like starbucks
time for me to head out — i’ve got the yawns and my typo ratio is getting way outta hand
g’nite all and thank you for all the conversation and music (and snowball) tonight
Thanks Suz, that was fun. Think I’ll turn in as well. G’nite pups.
The thing is that Starbucks got sucked into supporting these people. What they don’t have is a good response. This is where I work a two part solution. If they are smart they will take my advice and disassociate themselves with the open carry people. If the don’t take my advice I will let the know that their insurance rates will go up.
I will also ask them if the really understand their demographic. This is Starbucks not “the Texas gunclub and coffe hut”
will they scare off “latte loving liberals” ?
