Gov’t Mule — Slackjaw Jezebel, Rockpalast, Germany, 2005.
What’s on your mind?
Aloha, Suz…!
Token!
aloha ct — how’s paradise tonight
oy!
He’s a star…!
hey sunny — i’m so forking proud of the little guy :) his card turned out wunnerful!
how ya doing tonight?
hey ce — how’s ohio tonight?
72°F | °C
Current: Cloudy
Wind: SW at 6 mph
Humidity: 64%
Muggy tonite…!
i took that pic of him on his 4th birthday — a year ago this month — his b/day is the 24th and he will be 5
still looks like a puppy tho
Just snowing now — tell me about Token.
A star, he is!
Hey Suz!
snowing! good snow or bad snow?
token is snoozing half under the wood stove (head half under tail half on his posh pad next to the stove) after munching down on some diet dog food.
he’s back on a diet again
le sigh
hey newton — how’s the bay area tonight dood?
Nice here. Clean from on and off rain, cool but not cold.
Evening Suz and pups. We had our visit with Dr. Dean today. He says we will get health care reform through reconciliation. We have 4 bad apples in the Senate, they have 41.
Hello, Suz. Evenin’ pups. Token is sure a cute little fella.
evening, Suz
Oh, I miss having a pet. Elvis has been gone a year now, and people at work have been trying to give me local kitteh strays (and oh, so darling). Our parents, now all in PA, now need us a bunch. And we travel too much to have a pet.
been off and on sunny here — weather dood said rains headed this way and we should get a good storm tomorrow
My real hero, Dr. Dean.
I seem to recall the slightest breeze being reason for worry about your toobz, back in the Bear Creek days.
hey bg — most excellent news — are you going to diary it? how ya doing?
hey ppd — how’s the south south bay?
hey pastfedup — if his head gets too much bigger he’s gonna topple over (laughing) he really is and has a cute personality too — he does a magnificent grumpy old man
Great picture! The piece of red is perfect.
All’s good here.
i freely admit that the tillamook peoples’ utility district does a much better job of keeping the power on than pge ever did. ditto for charter cable vs comcast.
its paradise in a non tropical way dood
Hiya! How are you?
There will be a lot of film of the event up tomorrow sometime, I think.
I got an e-mail today that is circulating in our town from the drummer of Tower of Power to one of our city councilors. Apparently last weekend at a fundraiser that ToP played here, this guy (the cc) came into the dressing room, said some stoopit sh.. and then helped himself to some drum sticks as a souvenir.
he had just come home from the doggie beauty shop — she always sends him off with a bandana — that one was red with little brown paw prints on it iirc
oooooooh that was not smart of the fool
ditto.
pretty good, thanks — how’s everything up north and out east, Suz & CE?
hey sunny — is that next storm that is gonna hit dc gonna fork up your thawing out?
can’t complain :) token goes to the doggy beauty shop again tomorrow — he’s gonna get his vd/birthday do. that’s about all the news i got other than its gonna rain. again. but i’m cool with that.
token made me play this
Though the snow seems light and not serious, mrce and I are headed through PA and all the mountains on Thursday. It should be ok here in Cleveland, but the unknown(s) on the Ohio and PA Turnpike scare me. Crap, I hate driving.
have ya checked road conditions and/or forecasts online?
and this one — anyone figure out the connnection?
Yes, we look online all the time. mrce is way braver than I. I guess I just hate driving anywhere. Funny that, I don’t mind flying (but I refused to watch Frontline about the airlines tonight…)
Allyson Seconds with Bag O’ Kittens
Allyson has just released her first CD and here she is on the local Sacto Morning show (about 7 AM if they seem a bit sleepy)
hey c’ape — how ya been?
Nope. We were saved from this one….. and we’re good 4 days out, according to the NWS. :))))))
Did you know that one of the guys in the Tokens is Neal Sedaka. I think he first heard the song from Pete Seeger, who heard it done in Xhosa by an African group.
Stay clear of regional carriers, CE (watching it now)
i’ve not flown since before 9/11 and all that tsa crap started.
i’m quite proud of it even though the original reason was i could not afford to fly.
yay! good news sunny
i did not know that. i love the interconnectiveness of music.
Yeah. We’re with Token on that one.
And for many I know, as well. We find, looking to care for our parents, flying is almost as cheap as driving. We fly abroad a lot, and find that the fares are not too horrible as we often fly in winter (and we LIKE it that way).
Busy…busy…and tragic…students at the local Cal State University campus are spilling into the aisles due to major cut-backs. I’m having to turn away students who need to have the courses to maintain their financial aid status, keep their campus jobs, graduate, get required labs. All the Professors and instructors are saying they are facing the same problem. Budget cuts are making the the system inoperable.
token was not named for music. his full name is token imitation male (TIM for short) but the guy painting the cabin was named tim so i just call him by his first name
oh geez that is horrible. arnold is drowning the state of ca in a bathtub of debt and tax cuts…. i’m so glad i’m out of ca
strange brew
Cute lil’ pup, he is. “Imitation Male”?
That’s funny… on lots of counts.
Around here pet names morph. The true name ultimately discloses itself.
Yup. And it all started with Governor Reagan. In the mid-sixties, tuitions/fees were inexpensive and graduates were considered an asset to the state. Post-Reagan, attending higher education was considered a privilege that had to be “earned,” at least by those whose parents were not wealthy.
neutered — he is an official ‘it’
We. who are still in CA, salute you, Suz.
how true! he’s morphed into token einstein gomer instead of the original name. sometimes he’s scary smart and other times he makes a rock look good
Man — what would we do without PBS Frontline!
what i like about oregon is everyone is struggling and its forking acknowledged. even by the state.
Funny how so many white guys donned perms back then. Doubt seriously that they were natural…though I did have a friend that had a real Afro and was, to the best of his knowledge, quite Anglo.
The guy on the drums is thee Ginger Baker, who immigrated to Lagos, Nigeria because he wanted to learn Afro-drums. He set up a studio there for the BBC…which was used by Paul McCartney and Wings for the Band on the Run album, and later by Mick Fleetwood (of Fleetwood Mac) to get the Afro drum tracks for TUSK.
hey wigwam — how ya been?
Digital Nation! Wow! I can’t stop thinking about it.
nowadays not to many of em have enough hair to do it again. some have not aged well (just look at pete townsend during the s/bowl sun).
i did not know that about baker sir paul and fleetwood. wow, more interconnectiveness.
Blind Faith — one of the greatest super pickup groups
There’s supposed to be a mass protest about the education cuts and other budget screw-ups in front of the Capitol on March 4th. Most of us are taking that day off as our mandatory furlough. I wonder if they can throw us out because we are “working” on the day we are supposed to be off work?
Wasn’t that an amazing program?
take your camera and then diary it with video c’ape.
Blind Faith, omg I haven’t thought about them since 1968. Youtube please?
can’t find my way home
Hi Suzanne. I both regret and apologize for my sparse attendance of late. Lotta stuff going on. Not all so bad. Ultimately, mostly time and attention consuming. But could have been a lot worse.
One of the most outstanding single albums by a group in rock history, my opinion.
no apologizes needed — just glad to see ya.
Oh, yes. Thanks, Suzanne, what a great song!
Hi Suz and everyone…
Strong winds here tonight.
Just like the federal government and the U.S. family and the banks and everything they touch. Remember, they say debt just doesn’t matter.
Well, they’re wrong. They are very seriously wrong and we have to stop them.
Amen!
hey margot — you got your hatches battened down?
Claim that it isn’t work, but rather an act of pure delight.
When, oh when, will this generation of Americans get the picture that the kids clamoring to get into classes today are the ones who will be running and supporting this nation when they are in their nursing homes?
hey mark h — how ya been?
Can you say…dysfunctionality. I knew you could.
Is Brown a shoe-in or could one of the billionaires still win?
Hi wigwam!
I’m good, but it’s snowing outside and the winds are really high tonight.
How is the weather where you are?
Thanks, Suze.
Hi Sunny. How you been?
winds gonna blow when the storm comes in tomorrow but it is the proverbial calm before the storm at the moment…
Hey so late, how are you?
My mom and sister live just outside of Philly, and they’re expecting to be snowed in for the next 24 hours.
winwood, baker, clapton, grech

hiya Margot – got your batches hattened down?
Been good. Enjoying Sen Franken?
George Harrisson, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Phil Collins and Elton John
Franken is one of my top political heroes. His books gave me courage of and documented support for my convictions. I wasn’t able to argue them coherently before I read his stuff.
I know. The old people I hear who won’t vote for school levies because “taxes are already high and I don’t have kids in school” are the ones at risk of having sloppy, unprepared ill-educated nurses give them the wrong dosages of meds and brush off their little sores, until they are bone-deep. It really makes me angry.
That sounds like a good band. When did they get together? Don’t bother pointing me to the youtube, my pc doesn’t do video very well and no sound at all.
I agree with Sarah Palin: it’s okay for Limbaugh to use the R-word … for the same reason that it’s okay for blacks to use the N-word.
Yessir. I have swept and shoveled about 5 times today just so the mailman could make it here, so I got some exercise in too.
not just medicine — we are condemning our future with cuts instead of putting money into education and jobs and infrastructure.
ah crap i forgot to pay attention again and got the 100
sorry folks
Nice tune du dut du du dut.
Do you figure Obama will get any credit for all the tax cuts he’s gotten passed? WTF is the matter with Americans who say they want tax cuts, but won’t even acknowledge them when they happen? Hypocrites, liars, idiots, loons or what?
I’m loving the youtubes coming out of DC. He never disappoints. Small wonder they resisted so hard.
hey bb — how’s your bay tonight?
the gop will never give bo credit for anything. did you see rachel’s take down of the gop’s hypocrisy tonight?
scarecrow diaried it with video
It’s so fucking ridiculously stupid
Agreed. It’s so fucking, ridiculously stupid! I can understand greed. This level of self-killing stupidity, I don’t understand.
Already, 200,000 Americans per year are killed by medical errors in hospitals. That’s four times as many as were killed in eight years of war in Vietnam. Seventy times as many as were killed on 9/11, PER FUCKING YEAR!!!
Yes, everywhere, but that is the example I use when I talk to them. They act like no one ever sacrificed for them.
Everybody ready for the Olympics? Ready for the dressage on ice? How about the bicycle race up a (slightly) frozen river? Maybe the outdoors volleyball in fur coats & mittens? Heh, er Eh?
And, he has only begun to speak his mind. IMHO, he’ll ultimately out-do even Grayson.
i hope it is effective with that group — hard to get folks to see reason when their emotions are involved.
‘fraid not. Did she rip off some bodily parts?
If there was any justice there’d be some people going to jail.
Say, why is it doctors who commit awful errors don’t go to jail? They got some kinda immunity or something?
If thinking gets any more short term, we’ll have to retire this native american saying
oh yeah (metaphorically speaking) check out the video i linked to at 107
Does anybody “here” know what’s up with NY gov Paterson and scandal? Is he going the way of the dodo or has he also got immunity?
the idiots would counter with that’s pre-9/11 thinking (spitting)
i’ve heard rumors but nothing that says what the ‘it’ is re any scandal.
Heh. Goooooood!
Have you ever heard this one: It doesn’t do any good to try and teach a pig to read. You can’t and it just annoys the pig.
I don’t know how effective it is, really.
Sorry I went into it here, it’s upsetting.
Calming song:
Oil in my lamp
turn your lights down low
Siiiiigh. I’ve gotta get some sleep. Later y’all.
hat on
That’s the ultimate hubris, Suz — like 5,000 years of human world history was wiped out when the towers fell.
g’nite markh
unfortunately it *is* the mentality that we are dealing with
Wow! Rachel kicks some ass.
no shit! my jaw dropped — she was naming names (and showing their pictures)!!!
The “tort reform” campaign is about not allowing them to be sued.
I tell the MDs I know that if they don’t like their malpractice rates, they should decrease the rate of malpractice. If I get them drunk enough, they admit that malpractice is the real problem, and not our tort system.
I sent the link to everyone I know, calling it a “must watch.”
i’ll be all for not letting them *not*be sued if they are prosecuted criminally instead. negligent homicide (if the patient died due to malpractice)
ooo baby baby
It’s a profit-oriented system. The only way is to make it unprofitable. So far as I know, the assholes who understaff the the hospital floors cannot be held criminally liable for their managerial decisions. But, I’d like to see them personally sued.
Cold and damp…little sun peeking through now and then mild winter. Rereading 1200 page FEIR for our court case and quick reads of FDL blogs and others. Yoga is getting easier. Eating a lot less 7 weeks to go then maybe resistance training, aerobics and yoga. No law against self improvement. Mostly juicing diet and focusing on breathe when I remember. Lots of rest to recover. Getting the endocrine system up to speed. Have to drive to town every day. Life is good. Be well and happy.
weather dood said tomorrow it is going to feel like february — if so it will be the first time all month — january felt more like march — was the warmest jan in ages for portland oregon.
don’t stress your eyes doing all that reading — take breaks and rest your eyes to avoid eye strain
Oops! My bed-time.
G’nite, All.
g’nite wigwam
Wow. Thanks for that… I’d missed it.
night all – be well
g’nite ppd
Care for the well heeled…let the rest be sick. My winger sis is going on the “dole” for long term so she has to give what she has to charity to qualify except for burial money of $10k. I am sure these conditions were winger conditions or the R talking head would and do go bugfuck over “socialism”. No balance and no short term memory and to care for her all the money she gave to the churches over the years and the 5 decades of low wages in banks are a sentence to be institutionalized.
Would make a great movie..wish Ken Kesey was around and Milos they could bring the story to the hearts and minds of Americans that public option/single payer is the only humane way to implement universal health care. Just saying I can see characters from Katymine to my sis a dreamer. What a great and timely film it would make Jane are you listening.
i was watching it while eating dinner and my fork hung between my mouth and the plate for the longest time.
absolute stunning indictment of their hypocrisy — one they can not explain away or try to spin (not like that won’t stop them from trying)
Good advice thanks I do several eye exeercises a day for 10 minutes but closing the eyes for rest and the right foods have made my vision improve a lot.
I ralked to our local Housing Trust fund who use their funding more for other than low income tenants…so pisses me off when the CEO told me too bad if I lose my housing over sewer. Payback at the podium! 1/3 of the town is at risk because the County wants the cadillac sewer and the highest income residents are excluded. Steam coming out of ears, eyes red I look like the wolf the the driving school videos.
’bout time for me to head out folks. thank you so very much for all the music and conversations tonight.
g’nite all
Stunning is the word. Pity their supporters will never see it.
Today NYT long term healthcare faces little scrutiny http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/10/health/policy/10care.html?hp
‘nite suz. Thanks for all you do.
readerOfTeaLeaves wrote on October 15,2009:
I’ve been reading back over a lot of the discussion on financial regulation and the crisis. This is one of the most insightful things I came across.
The fractional banking system creates massive amounts of new money.
Then, the world decides Credit Default Swaps are a great idea and that too becomes an awful lot like money.
A product which is created from nothing (because insurance laws do not apply) is a serious challenge to the hegemony of gov’t to create money.
Now, even if we eliminate CDSs there is an existing pile of them to yet deal with.
