Prager asks indignantly,
Where is this mainstream conservative “explicit anti-gay animus?”
Funny he should ask, because the lead article today at Townhall, where Prager’s article and blog reside, is titled “Texas Gay&M” and begins:
Some time ago, I recommended Texas A&M University as a good place to get an education. Now that it has added a course in the English Department called “Gay and Lesbian Literature” I need to reconsider. Generally, when a school dedicates entire courses to homosexuality its days are numbered as a university to be taken seriously.
The article goes on to suggest an alternate course: ““Homosexuality and Other Bad Lifestyle Choices.”
No animus there!
And right below Prager’s piece today on Townhall is another titled, “Queer Theories and Theologies” by the same author, who writes of gays,
They do not seek to enjoy marriage. They seek to destroy marriage.
Can’t imagine where Frank Rich got the idea that Dennis and his wingnut buddies hate gays.
Maybe he reads Dennis Prager’s website. Or reads his articles. Or watches him on teevee.

Oh, but Prager and his ilk love the sinner. They just hate the sin. To an unhealthy extreme.
Thanks BT. I don’t give clownhall the hit so never actually get to see prager’s bullshit. It still alarms me when this level of bigotry is encountered.
Heh. A lit course focusing on homosexuality denotes academic decline. That funny.
Probably makes ‘em feel uncomfortable know know that so much thoughtful writing has been done throughout history about those inverts and their insidious desire.
I wonder how he feels about Leonardo da Vinci. Thanks for keeping up with this stuff. I simply can’t read these people, including the wapo and the nyt.
“Intolerance of others’ viewpoints will not be tolerated in the classroom…”
John Yoo is a Prof at Berkeley yet a lit course in homosexuality is decline! Ha!
Heck, he’s pretty much duty-bound to hate the entire Renaissance.
It has long been my observation that individuals who constantly feel compelled to posture themselves in such a sanctimonious way are the most likely to have nasty skeletons in the closet.
The homophobia in this country is so fricking backwoods – misinformation taken as gospel – wait, that covers a lot of problems in this country. Let me try this again – The homophobia in this country is soooo last century. Well, not much better….
“Hate the Entire Renaissance”
I’m pretty sure that’s a degree program at Regent U.
Are you suggesting that Dennis Prager is a necrophile who has defiled skeletal remains?
“Hate the Enlightenment” is a Master’s program.
I stand corrected.
Not until after he digs them up. Just sayin’…
Homophobia among the wingnuts? How could that be? Who could have anticipated?
It would be irresponsible not to speculate…
The GOP is normally proud of being homophobes.
The course has been around since Spring 2008. Looks like they’re digging kind of deep to try to find a controversy.
This guy doesn’t read his own blog?
Apparently not. Or his own articles.
More like poolboys in the closet.
Maybe conservative academia will get behind a conservative study like:
Intro to Chuck Norris Films.
Why after working so hard at being homophobes would the GOP try and claim they are not? Why would the GOP think they could could change anyone’s mind about their anti gay position.
Has Karl been looking at the polling trends on this issue? Is the GOP’s anti gay stance turning off younger voters?
Have the Log Cabin Republicans stopped picking up younger members? Has being Republican and Gay become impossible for college kids thanks to the GOP’s current stance?
This guy writes anti gay articles and he thinks the GOP is not anti gay?
Yes, apparently it goes something like, “Just because I want to deny a minority population the same rights as everyone else doesn’t make me a bigot.”
Prager is a joke.
Hell, all “Conservatives” are jokes.
Detailed Norris lore can be found here.
Magical thinking and the big lie. The Rs do it so well.
The GOP used to have Advertising Men run the show they would know that you can’t just change direction on Gays over night and expect to be believed by anyone.
The Rs do it so well.
And the MSM perpetuates it so well…
I’m thinking maybe the recession has forced the GOP to lay off their Advertising people this lie isn’t believable.
Maybe its more of a personal lie than one intended for the public?
Thats is a fact
Why can’t the GOP just admit on tv openly how they feel about Gays, Woman, Minorities? Its not like they would lose or gain any votes.
Everyone knows what the GOP is about anyway. People make a point of saying if they are GOPers that they are not Fundies, Social Conservatives etc.
The Fundies themselves always try and bring up the Bible, funny science etc to dress up their beliefs as fact.
Its almost like they are ashamed of themselves.
If you are “pro” traditional marriage, you are anti-gay!
Much as only liberals are wrong for being condescending, one of their other fatal flaws is that they think that when a person speaks as a representative of the rightists they should be taken by what they mean as opposed to a few disclaimers strewn about. Rightists (Prager seems to need to qualify everyone he disagrees with as a leftist) like Prager say that when gays seek marriage equality that they are endangering a divinely created institution. Though Paul might have had some disagreement there. The problem appears to come down to the issue that heterosexuals apparently couldn’t stand the stress of being able to choose between a same-sex or opposite-sex union. If gays can marry then there would be no reason for heterosexuals to marry or maybe it would taint the pool. Maybe it would make the creator mad. Certainly something would go wrong.
People like Prager continue to give the impression that they are so hot to fight this issue because they believe that many would find the alternative so compelling.
“The
ladyrightist doth protest too much, methinks.”(By the way, as a first impression, Townhall is an offensive and obnoxious site.)
They’ll leave no stone unturned in their efforts to generate fear in their flock.
By the way: Lt. Dan Choi, the openly-gay soldier who is fighting to end DADT, is now back on active duty: http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2010/02/09/Dan_Choi_Back_in_Active_Duty/
Looks like Obama’s working to keep a few promises.
I’ve never been to Townhall. Wow, what a lineup:
Cal Thomas
Chuck Norris
Phyllis Schlafly
Thomas Sowell
Dennis Prager
Pat Buchanan
…and Mike Adams, who seems to be fixated on teh gay.
Ugh. Not. Going. Back. Evah.
Townhall is an offensive and obnoxious site
They would interpret that statement as a compliment, I’m sure.
Its called being right about the war, WMD,the economy, the housing bubble etc etc for the last 9 years.
cream of the crop!
err perhaps dregs would be a better choice…
http://www.qrd.org/qrd/misc/text/schlafly.outing.reaction-KNIGHT.RIDDER
Its always about them
O/T: Speaking of “divinely-inspired.” Ya just can’t make this shit up…
They have all gone nuts!
“Where is this mainstream conservative “explicit anti-gay animus?”
so, prager takes offense that the GOP is seen as having “explicit anti-gay animus”?
the samples of his bigotry make me wonder why would he take offense at this charge? he seems proud to be anti-gay.
so… is he upset b/c it was supposed to be merely implicit animus?
it is the same pattern from the right wing: they take a racist, or homophobic, or sexist, or classist, or jingoist position on issues–proudly so–but when called out, they are shocked, SHOCKED!, that anyone would draw untoward conclusions…
Actually, I think that’s a guy who is an atheist deciding to yank a few chains. First saw somehting on it a couple of months ago.
Isn’t it funny that the Raptured will be willing to leave their precious pets they love so much with the un-Raptured heathens? Makes no sense.
Schlafley says.
Actually, it’s meant to shame you, honey.
She admits openly that her son is an embarrassment. What a horrible woman she is.
The Rude Pundit had a good rant about this today (2/9/10). I was unaware of or in denial about the existance of Townhall, but when I saw a list, above, of those who contribute to this site, I will blissfully go back into denial about it’s existence. Sometimes there are good reasons to be simply in denial.
I feel the same way about gay marriage rights as I do about abortion rights: if you disagree with gays getting married, then the simple solution is for you to marry someone of the opposite gender. Problem solved. Same for abortion: if you disagree with having an abortion, then, hey presto!: don’t have one.
I wish self-righteous rightists would stop expanding gov’t into my bedroom. They *claim* (a big fat ole lie) to be against gov’t expansion, but the last 9 years disproves this b.s.
Maybe the author of this trash needs to visit that airport bathroom in St. Paul (or wherever it was) and hope to tap his tootsies next to Mr. Wide Stance… or Ted Haggard… or both. I always feel that these kinds of intense protests against some activity usually indicate projection.
And finally: yeah, it’s weird how these rightists get all self-righteously indignant about being called what they are: homophobic, sexist, mysogynisitic, racist bigots. Hey folks: let your rightist flag fly freely. Sheesh, we all know exactly what you are & how you think & how you act; it’s no big secret. It’s not like you hide it or anything. All this protesting about how they’re not racist or sexist or homophobic… I mean: who do they think they’re kidding? I would have a tad more respect for them if they were just honest about it. The victimization card is wearing very thin anymore.
Clearly it is something she did wrong. She turned her son gay! It must have been all the working outside of the home.
She should have taken her own advice, shut up, and gone home to cook and clean.
Agree completely: Phyliss Schlafy is the most horrid of the horrible. And a big fat old two-faced, lying, phony, con-artist, grifter hypocrite of the lowest and most crass and debased kind. Now let me not mince words and tell you how I REALLY feel about this creep… ;-)
Yeah, does sorta leave a taste in your mouth like the bottom of a coffee cup with cold gritty remains in it. Blech.
Ha! Yeah. It always slays me how these nonsensical, brainwashed rightists worship at Sclafly’s lying feet. She tells all women to shut up, stay bare foot & pregnant & to get back into the kitchen. What a cretin. Doubtless, she just wants no competition for her nasty screed, and yet these idiots buy her S***.
As a card carrying atheist, that really is an offensive website.
And he certainly is a long-winded old coot.
If IIRC from what I read, the guy who set it up did so totally tongue in cheek while at the same time, figuring if someone were really gullible and serious about it, he could make a few bucks on the side.
Kinda along the lines of the folks who ask the Rapture believers, “Can I have your Mercedes and McMansion?”
it is a tricky calculation for the rightwing
big govt BAD: if it attempts to level the playing field, regulates the market in anyway, or sets up a safety net for the unfortunate.
big govt GREAT: if it polices what you do with your genitals, your body, invades your privacy, reduces your civil rights, or your love life/relationships… or declares wars for corporate/ruling class profit
Tea meet bag.
The address is in Indianapolis (Westfield), and it is registered to Charles and Sahron Lasker.
I wish I had the guts to gouge “believers” that way. Could use some money in my bank.
*Curse you, CONSCIENCE!*
Actually, it is Sharon, not Sahron, and if you google Sharon Lasker you find her Linkedin profile and she is in the Indianapolis area.
And yes, I am goofing off at work, why do you ask?
Her “embarassing” son works with her hand and glove. He’s “openly gay” because that’s the way people live now — thanks to the success of a movement his Mom despises.
Generally, when a school dedicates entire courses to homosexuality its days are numbered as a university to be taken seriously.
Generally, when a politician dedicates an entire newspaper opinion piece to anti-gay polemics, his days are numbered as a politician to be taken seriously.
Seriously, if this guy has a college education, did he not in his required English Lit course encounter at least a quick comment re: Shakespeare’s sonnets? Certainly I would not expect him to be completely versed in the history of criticism which slowly awoke to the central position of “Maurice” in Forsters oevre and important socio-historical perspective it provides, but did no-one direct his attention to Cavafy’s vast influence on 20th Century poetry from Elliot to Heany is an unavoidable fact?
Or perhaps we should start back in the classics…?
Of literature, he sought not to enjoy,
but rather, dumb and simple, to destroy.
He doth protest too much. One is forced to suspect that he’s one of those closeted gay guys who hate gays because he is one but he’s got issues.
Er… um…. isn’t “animus” surely a high-falutin’ term used only by the ELITE????
