Yes, why oh why?
Alexander then went on to have a chat yesterday, the transcript shows that a third of it is him having to admit that liberals aren’t any more condescending than anyone else. Another third is a proclamation he is unaware of any prominent conservative referring to liberals as “un-American”. And finally the last third involved using ad hominem analogies like ‘liberals believe’ “AIDS was developed in a U.S. military lab and used deliberately to infect people” to deflect from actual statistics showing huge swaths of conservatives believe in literal creationism; deny global warming; think Obama wasn’t born in American; and that ACORN is full of people with Hitler mustaches wearing Mao hats.
Seriously, read it, it is ALL like that.
And how did this guy end up in the Post?
I can only tell you that the Post editor I dealt with searched me out, and were as encouraging as any editor could conceivably be.
A-W-E-S-O-M-E!

my bold fuck off Prove me wrong and lets see your record of being right!!!! vs mine!!!!
Oh wait Frackin The Elite want to lecture me ? Google my predictions on the economy see if I wasn’t right!!
Or perhaps that lefties like ME sometimes need to re-read our writing to make edits on occasion.
Mother fracker cherry trees got buds in seattle nobody said global warming would be constant or predictable last year we had record snow.
Not your fight last thread
When has brown ever been an elite? I’m not the only one here maybe Jane should broadcast that more FDL is not a white retreat Rahm can ‘t just brush off.
Oh wait Hispanic votes run against immigrants thats totally Rahm. Go ahead Rahm debate us or just me.
Guilty as charged. As long as the right wing tea party crowd insist on spouting such nonsense as that stated above in addition to giving even more to the ultra wealthy, allowing people to die because they can’t afford to live, starting even more wars, increasing an already bloated defense, abstinence counseling, and blah, blah, blah; they will receive my well deserved condescension, scorn, contempt, and fury.
You were a victim of a inarticulate and irritable commenter earlier this evening. That was then. From what I saw, there was a good bit of support from others for your position.
That detritus belongs in the rear view mirror.
Thanks:)
Ok idea red states have to give at least equal what they send back in taxes. If the Dems want to win they should make that point.
After all we are at war not that the MSM mentions that too often.
/me hands ThingsComeUndone a bucket full of commas.
I’m not condescending toward the Washington Post. I despise them.
And my life is better since I stopped reading or linking to them.
When conservatives talk about liberals being condescending they are pretty much talking about our entire main stream media(minus FOX News).
They are not talking about oh say…. Dean Baker’s Beat the Press commentary on all the mistakes, misunderstandings and outright orwellian articles being spewed out by main stream press (primarily The Washington Post and NY Times).
Anyway, I think this WP article is about mainstream media being in denial about the horrible job they are doing. They see angry teabaggers to thier right and equally angry progressives to thier left, both challenging the relevance of the mainstream media. It’s too many people to simply ignore so they try to discredit them instead.
It’s best to regard the Post as enemy propaganda.
I was sad to give the WaPo up, since it has leftovers from heyday as liberal crusaders for ethics and at least getting criminals out of the WH, but Hiatt has taken a firm stand for rightwing economic ideology, and sides unwaveringly with corporate welfare, so I have posted before that giving it any hits is encouraging them, even if it’s to contradict their obvious errors.
Condescending is another word for rejection of faulty logic, imhv = in my humble vocabulary. pardon all the syllables, sigh, they won’t understand.
It’s Gerard Alexander not Gerald and he’s an undeclared AEI flack.
http://www.aei.org/scholar/109
The AEI started out as a business friendly think tank, and I ran into them while working up plant closing legislation that mandated penalties for closing without notification, and they were solid on that in the 80′s, but the corporate welfare crowd took them over and instead of thinking they went to selling the talking points. too bad.
There is a place for a second great American newspaper based out of Washington. Once the WaPo falls into the abyss.
Good morning, pups. It’s Brooks, Cohen and Herbert this morning. Bobo has labored and has produced an opus titled “The House of Tranquility” in which he states that Barack Obama and Joe Biden once had a Felix and Oscar air about them. But in recent months, Obama has found a way to use Biden’s skills, while Biden has found ways to be of use. Mr. Cohen, in “The World’s Watchmaker,” says China has America about where it wants it. You can make your own calculation of President Obama’s leverage over Beijing — and it’s heading south. Mr. Herbert addresses “The Worst of the Pain,” and says those in the lower-income groups are in a much, much deeper hole than the general commentary on the recession would lead people to believe.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got a variety of bagels with cream cheese. I’m running late here, so I’m off to feed kittehs and try to get it in gear. Here’s hoping that pups in the Middle Atlantic region don’t suffer too much with the second snowfall headed their way. Have a good day.
Mr. Herbert addresses “The Worst of the Pain,” and says those in the lower-income groups are in a much, much deeper hole than the general commentary on the recession would lead people to believe.
Mr Herbert is giving his fellow commentators a nudge back toward the real economy that most of us live in, but gently because they don’t get out much.
and thanks, Marion.
Herbert is consistently the only one who seems to actually step outside the bubble and look around. (Without talking to cab drivers… /snark) Thank heaven for him.
Eugene Robinson also, imho.
Can you believe that Katie used a cabdriver wisdom fancy to question Pres.O. How he kept a straight face I cannot imagine.
Good morning all.
Firstly, I take issue with the notion that the following positions are “Liberal”:
In the “New Economy”, profit is irrelevant, all that matters is market share and stock prices.
In the future, housing prices can continue to gain 10-15% annually.
15-30% annual increases in equities portfolios are normal and the underlying mechanisms to attain them should be rewarded and reinforced.
Preemptive war.
You can get quality intelligence of another country without scant native language resources.
Military contingency planning is a luxury.
I would be condescending toward Howard Kurtz were I ever to meet him. The man’s an idiot.
I’m proud to be condescending to those all who drove our country into the ground. Except it’s called contempt.
I admit I’m just plain prejudiced. Mainly, against posturing opportunists that will sacrifice the country’s security, economic and otherwise, for their political ideology, a.k.a. morans.
what up sunshine?
That too.
Nice thing to ask as the rising sun is just now positioned to shine on the side of my face and my keyboard.
What’s up with you?
Nuttin much, taking care of LilBit post cataract surgery and workin fo da man!
Taking Cahnstance to the vet today to get her booster shot & for the great weigh-in. Think she’s gained some weight since I’ve had her.
What term shall we use when the “elite” cla$$e$ sink beneath “contempt?
One asks, simply because we are, already, “there” …
Hell, so far we’ve been very polite.
Even obsequiously so, considering what has gone on and continues to … go on.
Ah well, good morning, all you contemptuous, condescending (yet “f–king retards”), comrades of utter, if not complete, disgust.
I guess that makes us all uppity?
DW
Kitty?
Yes. I adopted her about 3 months ago. Vet sez she’s around 2 years old.
What kind of care is required post-cataract surgery?
Aww, good deal for her. Our pups are both rescues. The post op care involves an array of eye drops administered as much as six times a day for a month and then decreasing amounts and intervals. They actually could not replace hers lens so she will have better, but not the best, vision in that eye. She also has no tear glands so she gets those drops twice a day for life. Our vet-eye doc is a big deal, people come from all over the south to see her. Her office is bedlam, a big blind gray cat and 4 little yappers with various degrees of problems all running loose in this old house!
The vet’s office sounds heavenly. Mine has a 2 1/2 legged one-eared cat that has the run of the place, named Cap’n. He does rescue work too, which is why I go to him.
Of dear, sounds like a lot of work. Hope the pup tolerates it well. And the doc-s office sounds like quite the place. She must be very good.
As for Cahnstance, good deal for me too. *g* We got this mutual thing going.
As our regular vet said the other day “she is the happiest little doggie I’ve ever seen”!
Wonderful.
Going upstairs for a swim.
Swim is up…
2 1/2 legged one eared cat does rescue work? Wow! :-)
Good morning all.
See how effective my vet is? wonderful stuff.
Think tank is an inappropriate designation. AEI and their like are “belief tanks.” They typically twist research and logic into intellectual pretzels to fit their belief system. In that they are merely outlets for propaganda. They certainly have been effective in the dissemination of their propaganda but then there have been few, if any, in the “legitimate” media to challenge their assumptions and findings.
“Liberal condescension” sticks to liberals because there is some germ of truth to it. It does exist, and it helps fire up the other side. It helps them get their Victim On.
One of the great urban myths. Anyone that checks in where the conservatives, ultra-conservatives, neoliberals or neoconservatives ply their trade can see that condescension is a common trait wherever a majority share distain for those with opposing views. The only serious difference is that liberals and progressives tend to hedge their differences around more or less verifiable facts and try to maintain decorum. The folks on the other side are often so busy building up the case for anger and hatred that they generally lightly skip over condescension on the road to trying to smash those with whom they disagree.
Liberals generally stop at condescension when they are in disagreement so it becomes a label. Many of the Tea Party crowd begin with condescension and then let their anger lead the way. The conservative minded Gerard Alexanders of the world will never be happy until those they disagree with passively acknowledge that only their personal worldview has merit and those liberals cease their disagreeable chatter about things they do not understand.
When those that find liberal condescension so disagreeable also continually address the irrational anger of some of the tea party crowd who offer death threats to those they disagree with, then they will have some basis for complaining about the mean ole condescending liberals who refuse to fall in line with conservative thought.
OT, I recommend a series entitled “Blueprint America” in particular their documentary “Beyond the Motor City.” It chronicles the failed urban and transportation policies in the U.S. and how much the U.S. has to do to catch up with the rest of the world in improvements to infrastructure. The U.S. is being left in the dust.

I agree, but I also think that by twisting the purported activity of what they call think tanks, the wingnuts have discredited their own cover. I note that now when a rep. of AEI, Pepperdine, etc. is introduced on a standard talk show, the words “of the right” is used if think tank is even given as identification.
Saw the article in the Post last night– it was finally delivered now that the glacier covering DC Metro is receding. (Can’t believe Gerard is an associate prof at UVA. What are they teaching those kids down there?) Couldn’t finish the article– it was abysmal. However, I would be interested in a responsible, fact-oriented op-ed on this issue, especially after Rahm called Progressives The Word That Must Not Be Spoken. Funny he didn’t make the cut for the photo insets and John Stewart did.
Here’s a cool new site for newspapers
And here in Montana, most males are condescending to most women. Never lived in such a misogynist place.
This may help prove their point, but if the Post is really pitching to the teabagger demo with articles like this one, it should probably ix-nay the 4-syllable words.
