hey eg — how ya been?
somebody said there’s no snow here, but must’ve been suffering beer-blindness.
nice!!
musta been talking about upstate
Just got back from an awesome BBQ, down a bit further on Banyan Drive…! I’m amidst a draft diary on the recent news in the AfPak region…! I swear it’s De Ja Vu, all over again…! 8-(
Toons, what can you say. I’ve always loved animation but, Who Framed Roger Rabbit changed my whole outlook on cartoons.
Go
DevilSaints!feeling like that movie groundhog day dood *shaking head in disgust* its like no one ever learns the lesson
Cute toon, Suz!
hey drouse — i never saw that movie in full — only clips. maybe that is why i still like toons. how ya doing tonight?
hey sunny — how ya doing?
LOL!
howdy Suze & pups.
The latest foolery to annoy me is the proposal to change the name of Mount Diablo to Mount Reagan. *gags*
It’s raining quite nicely here. I love it for the green, and for the green I save!
thanks loohoo — glad ya liked it
Hahahaha! One of the best toons ever. Can’t you just picture Mel Blanc alone in a sound studio with just a script and his imagination? Thanks, Suzanne. *g*
hey ndfg — i saw that at lisa’s… that is so forking wrong.. i grew up at the foot of mt diablo — how ya doing?
hey emerson — glad ya liked it — how ya doing?
That is an amazing attempt. Maybe we should just become the United States of Reagan.
How are the peeps?
Up in Napa for 5-6 days. Doing OK.
Snow and Ice, gone! Been reading Palin’s e-mailed schedules:
“LOCATION: FBKS
3.16 Sun Speech – Alaskan Independence Party (AIP) Statewide Convention. Has been REGRETTED as you will be in JNU.”
In case anyone’s still going to be up then, in a little less than 2 1/2 hours the last Shuttle mission is due to launch. You should be able to view it here.
I’m doing just fine. As for as the movie goes, I recommend that one should view it as science fiction. After all, it did win an award as best SF movie of the year. Failing that there are the take away lines that are just so good. Like “I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way”.
They do it to annoy us.
I start of with Santayana…! ;-)
hey fenestrate — is it gonna be carried on the cable news channels? how ya doing?
I hear from the DC folks there is record snow in Vienna – over two feet. This is after having another record when I was there for Christmas – 20.5″
California is looking mighty fine today :)
its weekends like this that make ya glad ya moved to the west coast :)
Doing fine here Suzanne, hope you’re doing the same :)
I don’t know from cable. I decided to get DSL instead of cable (I make Scotsmen look like spendthrifts).
The MSM of late haven’t been covering NASA missions all that much. But this is the last flight of the shuttle so maybe they will.
Indeedy. How are things chez Token?
is kinda what i was thinking so i asked. i’m doing fair to middlin thank you.
When I was thrown out of the army back in ’84, I swore that I would never live anywhere else but in the bay area.
This being the central theme…
D’oh…! 8-(
token is spending his time going back and forth between under the wood stove and on the sofa. is about all that is happening here and i like it that way :)
i love visiting my sis in antioch because of the lovely view of mount diablo from her family room & deck.
*eyes rolling*
i lived in the sf bay area from 64 until aug of 08. moved there when i was 10. am enjoying learning about how wild the weather can be on the oregon coast.
“it’ll go great”, he nemesized
lived in pleasant hill from 6th grade until i was 18. used to go up to diablo all the time — in fact my senior picnic was held up here.
Good evening my little puppies, been a long time.
Hi Suzanne.
hey busted — how’s your cold? better?
Oh, that’s right, I remember the thing about you trying to sell your house in Boulder Creek. Where on the coast are you? I’ve got family in North Bend.
Some.
I took a really hard nap this afternoon until I got woke up by the phone. That explains why I am up so late.
i’m up on netarts bay just outside tillamook.
Suz, ty for the toon, and hi to everyone!
My beagle is going outside a lot more than usual. Once she got over the snow, she went exploring for rabbits. Then she comes in and I cover her up with a blanket.
Hey, Busted! Long old time. Good to see you!
Wha?
I grew up all over Coos Bay/ North Bend.
Cooston,Empire, Charleston, all of it.
i was wondering (laughing) glad to hear ya are ‘some’. dayam sure better than worse or the same.
You too!
All of ya’s!
hey margot — token and bailey are happy that we have had no snow this winter. how ya doing?
Gut wrenching, to say the least…! 8-(
Hiya Busted!
Hi sweety!
hey ce — how ya doing tonight?
Did you read about the wild beagle packs?
Sad.
I sure hope our Janie has herself tucked away somewhere nice and warm, I hear DC is about to get pounded with two feet of snow!
As Teddy says:
TROOPS
OUT
NOW.
You know, I wondered about all this talk before the upcoming operation. It might be big, but that’s still no excuse for telegraphing your punch. Do they want the Taliban to fade away before the battle happens?
Shorter…big op for big PR. Nothing to do with military strategy.
Long time no see — great to be here.
everything seems to be about marketing nowadays instead of performance
Wonderful — about four inches of snow (cake, in our neighborhood) and clear streets. Movies — Finding Forrester — with Sean Connery. Tears!
Lot to do with letting the population see that the Taliban can be pushed out of where they’re dug in.
Lol, I’m gettin’ old, just hit the big five oh and I am usually way passed out by now.
I sure had a good nap this afternoon, now I am wide awake.
D’uh…! ;-)
Yes I did, very sad.
*ahem* 50 is young to many of us dood
Hiya CTuttle.
I see you are at The Beach house too. Congrats my man.
What?
I didn’t mention any names!
Smooch.
Listen my friend, I’m looking on the sunny side of 60 — and not feeling too bad about it! I love being 50 and then some. The real downside is the health of parents, which is really poor.
Dang Busted, glad to see you, glad you’re feeling better.
(Psst go to the doctor ya stubborn coot)
LMAO! Cough, cough.
That I are dear.
I might add for the 5th time…! ;-)
Yep. I get it. They want PR, not a messy battle. Battle’s mean casualties, NATO and more importantly American casualties.
They want a big suckcess. Something to tell the folks back home how well they’re doing.
there is a term for those who do the same thing over and over again looking for a different result….
And the definition of insanity is……?
ha! like we were on jeopardy or something
Great minds think alike I hear.
:) who ya rooting for in the game tomorrow dood?
Me, too. My parents are suddenly not doing so well. I guess the lesson is to keep having as much fun as possible.
hey mary — how’s sac tonight?
The underdog, natch.
My heart aches for them. Mrce and I still have four living parents, and we (us!) are 57 and 59 years of age. We have been traveling these last months to see them, 8 hours away, over and over. They are just not well. And our hearts are heavy.
Betsy does tolerate my presence…! ;-) Btw…. She’s in the Big Apple now during this Nor’easter that blew in…! ;-)…!
oh geez — bad timing…
Well, Happy 50′s. You’ll love it!
is anyone going to a superbowl party tomorrow? or hosting one?
Hiya, Pups.
That’s one of my favorite Milt Franklyn scores. I love where the Tasmanian Devil doesn’t even recognize the bagpipes playing as music.
My mom’s been in poor shape for about ten years, but now my dad is flat on his back with sciatica. So sad to see this strong man (last year playing 18 holes) down.
100
Sanity is a madness put to good use.
-George Santayana
A little sanity would be nice…! ;-)
ooooo nicely done loohoo congrats
hey et — that had me laughing too — how’s alaska tonight?
I’m finishing up plowing the snow from our blizzard from Friday night/Saturday morning. I cleared out enough to get places, but there’s a lot more. Maybe I’ll watch some of the game to see if it is a worthwhile match.
And the bagpipes came to life momentarily!
how much snow didja end up getting?
Can you send me a link? I love bagpipes.
Question.
its a scene in the cartoon before he starts singing
It is very hard to see the end, and I know that this year will be the passing of our mums.
I plowed and shoveled during all but the last ten minutes of the CW’s speech. Then I checked out Lisa Derrick’s live blog. I’ve heard better speeches at PTA candidate forums. It wasn’t even word salad. It was word compost. Truly fitting for a crowd of 500, although estimated by Glenn Beck to be in the billions.
hey vb — how’s vegas tonight?
It is Suzanne’s Saturday night Looney Tune, at top.
my mom (75) has thought that about her mom (94) for the past couple of years.
OT late night rant. Skip over it please, or at least don’t yell at me.
I miss my dad. Old guy was a fairy pilot (yeah, I laughed too) back in WWII. Then he flew in the Berlin Airlift. The only real thing he ever did according to him. Lot of good stories from then.
He got out of the service, decided he hated civilian life and went to get back in. Problem. He never graduated so had to come back in as an enlisted man. Lordy did I hear a lot of stories about how life is completely different for officers vs enlisted.
When I was a young fellow, we had the missile crises. Dad was straw bossing putting the birds in silos in MO (Minuteman). It was the old man who explained things to me. Kennedy didn’t face the Soviets down, he made a deal. We took out our missiles from Turkey in exchange for theirs in Cuba.
He taught me. Them Ruskies aren’t dumb. They know pretty much all we have, were it is and who is working on it. When the government tells you something is secret, they don’t mean from the enemy, they mean from the American people. This was in the sixties.
He supported Nixon. He said he liked Nixon’s idea of a single payer medical program. (Kennedy voted against it because it didn’t go far enough).
He supported Reagan. He liked that Reagan signed the Geneva Convention against torture and got the Senate to ratify it.
He also liked Reagan’s idea that terrorist should be charged as criminals and not as military adversaries. An honor he wasn’t willing to give them. It don’t remember the exact language but that’s the gist of it.
He was also into the market. He did ok, not great, but ok. He told me, anything you read in the papers, heck…everything you read in the papers, remember…someone paid good money to get the information to you. They want you to know that. The broker you got to is not your friend. The bankers are not your friend. On wall street everyone is hanging out, behind every rock and bush, just waiting for you to bend over. Believe nothing you read with out first asking yourself, why do they want me to know this.
Dad was a paranoid’s paranoid. Conspiracy folks of today don’t hold a candle to him, they don’t have the imagination.
He even supported Bush II. He believed Bush when he said he wasn’t into nation building. Dad died before the Iraq war. But I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt that good republican that dad was, he would have been dead set against that war.
Dad was a conservative and a republican. I was a pinko commie as far as he was concerned (actually I was an anarchist, Bakunin, non-violent, etc). Today, dad would be yelling at me (didn’t he always). He’d say there are no conservatives today. There are lefties and idiots. Given the choice, I know he would be backing the lefties, and bitching ever inch of the way.
I miss him.
Crossing fingers — I’m with you now.
excellent rant dood — sounds like my dad and your dad had a lot in common. i miss mine too.
Nah. They throw the Hitler/Stalin around, not us.
is all ya can do — and enjoy the time that ya do have
I’m not “throwing it around.” I’m asking a question.
Hitler started out as a red-meat “populist” as well.
she’s dumber than boosh and trying to ride the populist gravy train for as much $$$ as she can before it crashes
OK kids, empty beer can and full bladder.
TMI and you like me anyway;)
I think it’s nighty nite time fer Busted. Great seeing you all again and I will try and get back here more often.
I loves ya.
Busted
Sounds like a wonderful Dad, Fenestrated. May not have been well educated, but he sure was intelligent.
g’nite busted *smooches*
Thanks. I gotta believe, yeah, dad was nuts, but there had to be, no has to be, a lot of old codgers like him still around. Dad would go spa if he thought that Pat Buchanan was all that’s left to represent his generation.
Man, if any of these old time republican, conservatives are still around, I wish they’d speak up. Today’s conservatives aren’t going anywhere good and they want to take us with them.
I’m still a member of the infantile left, so I won’t tell all you progressives how to do things. Just remember, back in the day, left and right both made fun of liberals. After all, a liberal never had a position he wasn’t willing to compromise on.
Biting tongue, thinking about music and cooking. Sorry, don’t know where this mood came from.
More from Sarah’s schedule:
7-12-07 Federal Reserve Board Luncheon – Anchorage
Summer business cruise by the Fed?
Night, busted. Good to see you again.
Well, y’see, that’s what I’m wondering. Is she just a venal dilettante, or does she have neo-Hitler potential?
good gumbo — music and food :)
i think watertiger pegged her correctly as a grifter
Y’all may be right. “Grifter,” the apt word. I hope so. In the end, Bu’ush just opted to return to being the dilettante he always was.
I just continue to wonder (uneasily) about Palin.
We tried to finish her off. So sorry…
After this election and the terrible mess health care reform is in, I have to wonder…is everyone on the take but us chickens? Is everything rigged beforehand, and we just get to vote on the pre-approved choices? Is it worth it to vote? Do we get to feel all power to the people by pulling that little lever?
OK you got me in this mood, you get me out, dude!
Thanks for the music Suz (Dad was from Homa LA, I was born in Biloxi…..mom was a war bride, German).
Sooooo…food….pork loins here. Very lean so I’m going to brown them in butter. Open a can of pears. Put the liquid from the can, along with some Grand Marnier in the pan and make a sauce.
Loins are going in a baking pan, covered with the sauce and then the pear halves. I think I’ll dot the whole think with butter then, the loins are really lean.
Question, no brown sugar, will it still work? Maybe add some ginger?
the saddest song he ever heard
that sounds yummy. my dad was a cook in the navy for 20 years — mom from a hollah back in the woods of kentucky. dad’s familly was from kansas so i grew up with meat and potatoes, simple food.
I swear I’m experiencing the worst wifi interference yet…! Is it something I’ve said…? ;-)
didja reset the wifi to see if that helps dood?
Me? No ginger. You’ve got a good thing going with no brown sugar. What are you having with the pork?
Y’all did yeoman duty…
‘fraid I’m hearing the siren song of her e-mails :(
the pears should take the place of sugar nicely.
Just finishing up helping Ms. ET make costumes for tomorrow’s Alaska Ski for Women in Anchorage. It is an event for women who want to get out of the house on Superbowl Sunday.
About 5 times as many women will participate – outside at about 15 degrees F – as are particpating in TeabaggerFest 2010.
Hi CT sorry about the interferece some RF around?
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/07/opinion/07sun1.html?hp
This is the best Ed from NYT in a while It’s the economy not the deficit.
It’s as we’ve always known. You have to be ever vigilant. It doesn’t matter if it’s politicians, police, judges, corporations.
Even unions. If you don’t have a union, then getting one is probably a good thing. If you have one, watch them like a hawk, they’ll bend you over as fast as management.
Didn’t, when you’re dealing with a billion people keep it simple, Mao recommend continual revolution? Didn’t our founding fathers expect another revolution in a couple of decades? We almost had one too….Civil War.
Thinking like my dad now, one of two things did us in.
In the past, every country that ever went to war said horrible things about the enemy. I have old Punch magazines from the late 1800′s. They tell stories of how inhuman the Prussians were. Something terrible happened in WWII though. All the propaganda, all the stories of just how bad the Germans were turned out to be true. Heck, if anything they erred on the side of sanity. The Germans of that war turned out to be far worse.
Take away from that….maybe our propaganda is right. Maybe it’s not just a story to get us all to fight.
Then, then….we came up with the BOMB. The game changer. The ultimate weapon of terror.
Add them together. Our propaganda is right, the enemy is evil, and there are weapons that can end life as we know it.
The cold war ended. Or did it. The old man, my dad the ultimate paranoid, thought that our generals and pols met with the Russians and agreed to the whole game. Whether or not the cold war was real afterwards, he thought it all started with an agreement between Stalin and FDR.
Ultimate paranoid. He was totally, well somewhat…maybe a little wrong. But the cold war ended. It didn’t take them long to come up with a new global enemy, did it?
If Osama didn’t exist, they’d have to invent him.
I just wish I could ask dad….what’s the point? Other than holding power, why? Just how much wealth does anyone person need?
I still believe in America. I just think that we haven’t had an unabashed American stand up yet. If we did..said to say…the MSM wouldn’t give him air time.
But hey, I can hope. It might not say anything about dreams in the Constitution, but it is certainly implied.
hey bb — how’s the bay tonight?
she gonna take pictures again this year? i loved the ones i saw in the past
Have you read them all? I just chose a dozen or so to read from ET’s links at the Seminal. I haven’t seen serious analysis of them yet, have you? Maybe they’re waiting to see if she runs.
He must be the only man who can sing it as well as Hank.
My buddy Gryph catches the CW looking down to read cheat notes off her hand during the Teabagger Q&A.
I hope so.
yup. dad liked hank sr and country — mom liked rock and roll. car trips were interesting.
Yes, and yes, I have noticed a new white van parked nearby recently, tho…! ;-)
must be pissed that we’ve neglected our nsa handlers. everyone turn and give the peeping toms in the white vans the traditional one finger salute
***salute*** *g*
Oh good doG. Does that bring back memories. Sunday road trips in MO. Remember that? The old folks thought it was a good thing to round up the whole family, stuff them in the car, and drive….to basically nowhere. Just drive. Kid’s bored out of their minds. Parents arguing about any least damn thing.
I had a near psychic experience once. I was reading Kerouac. He was talking about just such a family outing, and about staring out the window of the car. He imagined he had a great sword that was cutting off the telephone poles, trees, fence posts and anything else they passed.
Dang. Don’t you know, as a kid I had the same fantasy. Was it something all humans have, or at least all young boys. Do all young boys stuck in the back of a flipping Renault, sniffing carbon monoxide from the no-good rear engine power plant with the poor exhaust system, think about a sword held out horizontally, cutting down trees and what not? Or was this something only Kerouac and I had. Some mystic connection.
You know what I did….come on…..think about it.
I went and chewed up some peyote, washed it down with good American bourbon, put a teletype roll of paper in a typewriter. And, locking myself in a bathroom, proceeded to write the next great American novel. Only to wake up the next day in a pool of “I don’t want to know” and with a dehydration headache.
But still, yeah. Was ours the only generation that had to endure the Sunday family drive?
Just beginning.. Starting by reading her schedules. They’re quite engaging, actually.
once i was old enough to drive, those sunday drives took on a whole new pleasure (well as much as ya can get driving). saw a lot of the area around the sf bay area when i was a preteen and teen. and my folks thought nothing of using a 3 day weekend to drive to visit kin down in la. we used to drive to auburn, north of sacramento, to visit kin. hell, our vacations were in the car visiting kin — only had to stay in a motel the first and last night out — dad was the middle of 11 and mom the oldest of 11 kids. we had kin all over.
But, It’s not just the NSA these days… …FBI wants records kept of Web sites visited…! ;-)
fuckers — everyone wants a piece of the pie so they can figure out how to many money off snooping.
All quiet on the western front. Hot yoga every day now. Wrote letters to Marine biologist and Surfrider Foundation for extending the marine sanctuary from Monterrey to PT. Conception tonight. And for testimony at our coming schedule with Ca Coastal Commission DeNovo hearing. Dr. Dan Wickham is a serious Marine Biologist from CAL Berkley Marine Labs. You need a lot of skills to work in that environment and he has spent a lot of underwater time studying the effect of pollution on shell fish. Does not like gravity sewers much. He has also spent a lot of time here at my behest. Hope he will testify.
Is that for real? Not that I would doubt that she’d cheat, but the marks on her hand could have been photoshopped,no?
Sounds like our car trips to OK to visit eleven sets of aunts and uncles!
after all, information is power
geez, i remember those horrible hours spent riding in the back seat with my bro and sister as we crossed the ok panhandle during the summer in a station wagon with no a/c
I love Auburn. Took the longest hike there, right out of high school. Camped near a river that we could both swim in and drink out of. Absolute beauty.
Ain’t that the truth…! And, the Truth shall set ya free…! *g*
video
Big Brother is watching you…the irony it is watching them too. Does freedom matter to them? Why not?
Well, yeah, I’ve driven all over CA. Highway 1 in particular is beautiful. And as a very young child we drove all over Norfolk…a county/shire in England. Again, beautiful. And both places and things to be discovered. Castles, monasteries and so forth in England, and in California road side attractions (what was his name….Tom Robbins?) and those old pull-offs for scenic views.
But Missouri?
Really…go for a Sunday drive in Misery? Is that something out of Kenneth Patchen?
Yeah, we got some dusky apple juice, and some sorghum syrup, and saw the Lake of the Ozarks. But we were stationed at Whiteman, you know….Knob Noster…Sedalia is over that way?
As teenagers there our favorite singer was Roger Williams….dang me, dang me, take a rope and hang me.
Sunday drives there was a hoot….well….in Warensburg there was a fire sell (as in inventory bought from business that had a real fire) that did have some really cheap and boss model airplanes.
Well, what else can you expect from a time that the national craze/sport was the yo-yo (remember Duncan)?
The bitter irony of this whole sordid ordeal is… There’s entirely too much data to process…! What an astounding concept, eh…? ;-)
we had kin in mo — dad’s family was all around the midwest whereas mom’s was the south and ca. kansas was where i learned there was no there there — that much flatness would drive me nuts. always wanted to drive around the british isles — take my time and meander whereever the road too me. tis on my places to see list.
I did see that, and it totally looks like she’s reading.
dang me
roger’s other big hit
Here’s an idea. Everyone, everywhere….post a lot, send a hundred emails today and again tomorrow. Put in every word combination you can think of that would trip their search engines. Talk about home made explosives. Mention terrorism. Kick the jams out.
Get all the college kids to do it. Pick a day even. Say, next Saturday is flood the NSA day. Everyone twit about mercury fulminate. Everyone post something on HufPo about dirty bombs.
This Saturday. You heard it hear first. Get them kids behind this and overload them NSA computers.
:D
CNN has picked it up.
I have used this term very, very seldom, but – what a slut.
Had she done this in my class, she would have been ejected from the University.
they would just use a terms of service excuse to get our isp’s to take away our connection
You mean Roger Miller, right? Dang me!
t.o.a.s.t.
time for me to head out folks. thank you for the conversations and music tonight.
g’nite all. go saints!
Night Suz, and smoochies!
Roger Miller did Disney’s Robin Hood too.
Not a good idea.
Of course they would….if it was a few, or ten, or a hundred….they’d cut us all off, or choke our feeds, or choke us.
But if you got 5, or 10, or 20 million college kids, old fart radicals, bored gamers to flood the internets with messages designed to trip the NSA et al search engines…then what could they do?
Dang, I remember all the young men in our part of the state sending blood (goat’s/sheep’s) soaked bibles to the Selective Service offices. What could they do? Come arrest all of us.
Heaven help me if you’ve ever heard of a smoke in. You know, a couple hundred, better a couple thousand, folks coming together to smoke pot. Like, what are the cops going to do, arrest all of us?
Wow, has civil disobedience fallen that far out of favor?
You’re positively, down-right, outright… Evil…! ;-)
Too much to process in real time without slowing throughput, but there are ways of capturing (recording) traffic and analyzing out of band. I was a network engineer at a major financial institution until they sent my job to India, but while I was there, our security people (many former FBI & other intel) were installing devices to do that very thing. That was in 2004-5. The plan was to store six months worth of network traffic to enable forensic analysis of any suspicious activity. Awesome. Frightening.
I doubt it – IOKIYARS – It’s OK if you’re a Republican …….
I looked around and hadn’t seen it picked up by MSM yet, and thought maybe it wasn’t real. This is magical stuff!!!
Yes, certain behaviors will raise alarms over time, yet, Real time analysis is a foreign entity…! They didn’t even pat down the Khost bomber, until it was way too late…! Pause and reflect on that…! 8-(
They’re not fast enough to stop a determined attacker from achieving martyrdom, but they have ample resources to suppress and harrass ordinary citizens engaged in mundane activities. Naked x-rays of everyone’s grandma while the evil-doers go through the side gate.
Hey Hey Loo Hoo. I’ve seen a lot of post by you, and I really admire you. I mean that seriously.
Now, I don’t know what you mean when you say, “not a good idea.” Maybe you need to flesh that out a bit.
Maybe you mean, don’t do it because everyone else who says they’re going to do it wont. Or maybe you’re saying that because it would really work, and you want the NSA folks to do their job.
*sigh* I don’t mean that last. But guy, if everyone agreed to do it on the same day, then it would work. Maybe it wouldn’t be big. Maybe it wouldn’t change anything. But it would be a major pain in the ass for the folks doing security dragnets on the internets. And knowing that, it would be a morale booster.
It would give folks something they could do. It would give them a chance to connect with the progressives (and nasty lefties such as myself). It would give them a chance to strike back. And it would give them an opportunity to strike back non-violently.
Look guys, I’m just a hermit type guy. I mind my own business. I’m the ground hog who comes up once a year to check his shadow. Got the picture.
I see that something has to be done. I see that the usual vote for the least evil (saw someone somewhere call it the weevil) wont hack it anymore. Guys. If I see it, and I’m not the brightest, in fact I’m the gee…let’s wait and see…kind of guy. If I see it, it’s past due.
Now, like I said, I’m not the shiniest tool in the chest. So ok, there’s my idea. Pick a Saturday and everyone post, email, twit or whatever some outrageous, sure to trip a watch dog program, phrase.
It ain’t a ground breaking idea. So, I’m waiting, what’s your idea?
I just posted a quickie Seminal diary on it. I’m such a slut.
*heh* Or are duped from the outset…
Sad, no…?
Participants would be labeled “cyber-terrorists” and the event would be used by the spooks to justify clamping down on the internet. Net neutrality would disappear forever, and everyone would have to pay much more for a lot slower networks.
They’re going that direction now, but slowly due to resistance from Congress and concerned citizens. Nothing like a protest from the DFH quarter to convince them all that “muslims” could use similar tactics to cause power plants to shut down, missiles to be launched, and our precious bodily fluids to be poisoned.
So, I tried posting the NSA protest thing on HufPo. No, it wasn’t modded. But it took only a couple seconds for someone to say “that has consequences you know”
Of course it has consequences.
Ok, Loo Hoo. Seriously, since you seem to think the same way. Whats the hitch. Why is it a terrible idea?
Durn, I thought I was on to a way to at least start a change. You know, civil liberties, human rights, privacy, constitutional guarantees.
Yeah, I think more tactical than strategic. So you guys think strategic.
Ah, yeah. There’s that.
Ok….so, we can’t protest because then we’re terrorists, or terrorist sympathizers….but if we don’t protest, then things go on like they are right now……
Durn it guys.
There is no progressive party. There is no party that could form a collation with Dems on some things and fight them when they go too centrist.
There is no peace movement to speak of.
There is no one worried about warrantless wiretapping. At least no one with a game plan beyond endless FOIA requests.
There is no one with a snow balls chance of getting rule of law to be the law of the land. No one who can get any traction on war crimes. No one who can hold anyone accountable.
There is no one who can get the bankers and insurance folks off our necks. (And yes, I believe it’s insurance folks, not bankers, who really call the shots). No one who can get meaningful reform. Or heck, any reform, meaningful or otherwise.
You think the tea partiers are mad? You and the MSM think the right, the tea sippers are it?
Dagnabit, I spent a summer listening to the hell the kids in Iran went through. And yeah, I know it’s not done there yet. But….
But….
You’re worried that if folks did a flood the internets with key words to foul up the NSA’s snooping programs it could threaten net neutrality? Seriously?
Dang….get folks going on the former, foul up the snooping programs….then if they dare touch net neutrality, get those same folks to fight them.
In fact, face it….they’ve got neutrality in their gun sights already. Best start organizing someone to fight it. And best start now.
You just can’t mess with security of the USA. Yeah, they may be overdoing in some cases, but only because the threats are serious, and because congress has passed laws allowing them to do what it is they’re doing.
Not saying that the patriot act isn’t overstepping, just saying that you probably don’t want to overstep as well. Guess who’d win that court case?
Good points.
You’re probably right. I just remember lots of folks moving to Canada not only to evade the draft but for some of them, because they didn’t agree with things here.
I remember a whole bunch of civil protest taken. I remember folks in England trying to shut down a pier because an American nuclear aircraft carrier was going to dock there.
Thing was….what we where scared of then wasn’t some fool kid wanting to explode is underwear and bring down a plane. We weren’t worried about some fools with boxcutters flying into a couple of buildings and killing thousands. We were worried about some fools pushing things over the brink and bringing about the end of the world.
Remember the kids who died in Kent State? Do you remember what the protest was about that day? Nixon sending troops into Cambodia. And yeah, the kids who died or were injured that day were just innocent bystanders, going from class to class.
The point is, back then we…and there were a lot of we involved….were taking on the powers that be when the stakes were life on earth period.
Now, you say….don’t do this…it might mess with the security of the USA. Tell me, you ever heard this place called the land of the brave?
We all know it’s no longer the home of the free.
Appraise war in terms of the fundamental factors. The first of these factors is moral influence.
Sun-Tzu
‘evening, all
I just wanted to correct something I saw upthread. The Shuttle that is about to launch in 10 minutes is NOT the last one. There are, I think, four more launches.
Update: Shuttle Endeavour launch has been scrubbed for 24 hours due to weather.
FYI, NASA scrubbed the mission tonight.
I suggested on a thread here at FDL a day or two ago that we could go to our Google search line and type in “The NSA are a bunch of nosy jerks”. I had done that a few times just to amuse myself. When I did it again the next morning, what came up on top but the very FDL thread where I had suggested it, complete with my ID. I’m OK with that, because the NSA ARE a bunch of nosy jerks and I have a right to say so, but if we were to push the envelope and start entering keywords which imply terrorist activity, there’s no telling what the response could be to us individually. It’s not like being one of a group of anonymous protestors marching down the street, with a potential to run for cover when they break out the tear-gas. They will have your name and address. And unfortunately, recent history provides examples of people who were essentially kidnapped and spirited away to some secret dungeon for “enhanced interrogation” on mere suspicion.
A lot of us are too old for that kind of stuff. Tear-gas and batons upside the head were bad enough back in the day. I don’t think I’m willing to be water-boarded to make a political point. How about you?
Evening, Ron…? I’m in the last time zone before the dateline… And there’s only 20 minutes left here…! ;-)
Oh, I’d be the first at a street protest of many things. Torture, Evesdropping, Banksters etc. But attempting a cyber attack ain’t in the deck.
Hey to the most polite man on all of the internets! How goes the teaching, Ron?
Someone should forward your Sun Tzu excerpt to Rahm & Obama in re: HCR.
Hey dude. I almost got my ass in the car and drove three hours to see the Shuttle go up live. Glad I didn’t, now.
Bring it on, I say…! Anything for my country’s salvation…! ;-)
(((Loo Hoo)))
Hey hon…pretty well. I’m acting as a guest lecturer on 20th century warfare this term-just finished a giant powerpoint and Imovie while waiting for my Shuttle launch. How are you? Are you going to NN this year?
http://ixquick.com/eng/power-search.html
but yeah, I hear you. Thing you’re forgetting, back in the sixties, they were taking our pictures, they were tracking up down. Not as efficiently as now, but they were doing it. Thing is, when there are millions protesting, then they can track all they want.
btw, I had my fun as an 18 year old in Chicago, and as I was born in 1950, that would make it ’68.
You’re right tho. No need for tear-gas and batons. But a progressive party needs to come about. Dems aren’t doing it and the Repubs are getting crazier and crazier.
Some action is needed to bring folks together. Then a party can be formed, changes can be pressed for.
But I really think some action is necessary and I don’t hold out any hope for a large march on DC. Bottom line, it was only an idea, but, you know, I haven’t seen an awful lot of ideas offered, anywhere.
If the proverbial double dip occur in the ‘recession’ I bet ya the Long march on DC will be all the vogue…! ;-)
The machine mutates and evolves with amazing speed to counter new threats as they arise. This makes creating an effective strategy that doesn’t take millions of $ very difficult, IMO. ymmv.
I agree something needs to be done. Let us furrow our collective brows and think deeply upon it for a time. Chess, not checkers…
I got a C note that says it’s going to happen…the double dip that is. I’ll believe the march when it happens.
BTW, way back when I went to a Peoples Constitutional Convention in Philly….anyone remember that? Nothing came of it, just wondering if anyone remembers it.
Anyway…you guys know all this political stuff way more than me. Best I’ve done was watch some Alinsky tapes at Antioch, and that was an horrendous number of years ago.
But, here’s the real important, what I want to know, question of the day……
I’m cooking some pork loins with peaches and Grand Marnier…I have no brown sugar, and the snow is too deep……should I add ginger?
*heh* You’re asking somebody who has ginger growing wild around…? What’s stopping ya…? ;-)
In FL we eat the peaches, fry the pork loins, and drink the Grand Marnier. It’s an old family recipe.
That would work. But it still stands, do you need some ginger, and if so where? On the pork, with the peaches, or in the Grand Marnier?
I hear you CTuttle…I’ll use some ginger. Baked pork loins, in peach sauce with Grand Marnier and ginger. Sounds like a winner. :D
What a novel idea…! ;-)
Yes, I’m going to NN. Are you and the Queen?
Whoops, meant to say to Fenestrate that I look forward to a giant march as well. After Downing Street is suggesting July 4th.
??
as in huh? or say wah? come again?
I am absolutely going to try. I haven’t made it yet, and I’ve been wanting to see the galaxy of kitsch that Las Vegas appears to be for quite awhile.
Is Vegas the next NN host…? When is it…?
No on the ginger. Salt and pepper would be much better in my opinion.
July 22-25th. Great room rates.
Pshaw… Belay that…! Ginger works well with pork…!
Truth is, I think you’re right….without the Grand Marnier and no brown sugar then ginger would make sense…..but I think the GM is both sweet enough and strong enough that ginger isn’t needed. But I wasn’t sure.
Now I am.
I’ve seen rumblings for a DC march on July 4th in many places. But nothing definate. Any links for any organizers, or is this kind of a national flash mob thing.
I’m good with a national flash mob btw just curious. Like I’ve said, I’ve seen the idea and the date bandied around in a lot of places.
on a side note, and just to be cute (i.e., silly) a girl friend from back in the day was prone to grab me in front of witnesses and proclaim “squeeze and/or kiss.”
Told you it was silly.
Gotta fade.
‘night, all. The best of all possible tomorrows to you all.
Planks for a Progressive Party.
Single Payer Health Care.
Mandatory public funding for campaigns. No lobbyist money allowed.
Open up debates and what have you to more than just the two dominate parties.
Human rights, total compliance with the Geneva Conventions
Accountability, both for war crimes and for white color (i.e., financial) crimes
Trim back the defense budget….10% will do for now, more later
End the filibuster…it’s just a Senate rule, it’s not in the Constitution.
Constitutional amendment declaring corporations to not be persons as covered by the constitution
Full bore effort to wean our nation from fossil fuels.
How’d I do? What did I forget? Where did I overstep?
Seriously guys…just what do we stand for?
Niter’s guy, nice to have met ya :)
Closing Time
Well, she used to tell me that I never knew when to shut up and leave well enough alone. You know. She was right.
Winter Lady
I miss you more than I can say.
There might be someone coming by who is older than me.
Brother can you spare a dime?
check the photos, don’t just listen to it….
Young folks, this is what it used to be like when I was very, very young.
All You Fascists Bound To Lose
I know, it’s a short one.
I’m having fun till the mod’s shut me down
Jambalaya
what, you expected Hank?
My dad used to listen to Hank all the time.
I remember this from so far back….dang.
Long Gone Lonesome Blues
(For the record, her name was Sue)
Ok, I’ll leave you good folks alone now.
But, this guy was one of my dad’s favorites. I got a feeling you’ve never heard him.
Hobo Bill’s last ride
Again, you gotta look at the pictures.
Anyway, if anyone is following all of this, Good night.
Oh…..last summer I heard/read something. It’s what I use instead of the golden rule. It goes like this:
Take care of one another.
Protect one another.
Be kind to one another.
The other thing those folks said is good too… You are not alone. Don’t be afraid. We are with you.
I’m glad we’re not having a revolution in this country. Maybe we need one. But I don’t think their any fun. And if it takes thoughts like the one just above to get through them, then we don’t want one.
This here is America. The neo-cons, right wingers, Beck and Palin followers aren’t the only Americans around. We were once a great people, we stood for a great dream. I know in my heart we can again. Please, don’t let them drag us down.
Now you know why I’m mostly a hermit. Thank you kind folks for at least hearing me out and not just shooting me down. Of all the liberal sites I’ve visited, you’re the only ones who have been so kind.
doG bless you all, and if you don’t believe in her, then good luck in all you do. :)
