What’s on your mind?
R.E.M. – Everybody Hurts
Suz! Nice find!
hey mr why — love that song — how ya doing?
is everyone watching lost?
hey newton — how’s the bay area tonight?
Terrible! It’s raining frogs!
*anyone think that will tear Suzanna away from her teevee?*
better get your galoshes dood (i’m a mom — i can multi-task)
Got distracted, hi Suz, love Butterfield.
Mr. Why, I don’t think I’ve ever really listened to that song…like it very much.
Sweet! Love “Walkin’ Blues”…
Hey Suz, hey pups :-)
hey margot — how’s ohio?
ll! how ya been?
Fine thanks, Suz, been all wrapped up in work and work-related activities lately, but it’s all good. How about you?
doing good — watching lost — its ohmygawd wicked good — and i am so not missing work related stuff (laughing)
Three more years…three more years…my mantra :-) Then it’s no more public safety stuff, ever again!
Same old, little snow on the way. Hope you’re not getting rain or winds.
LL, good to see you!
tis a grand thing ll – no alarm clocks and your time is what you want to make of it.
had a band or two of showers move through earlier — 80% chance of rain tomorrow per the weather dood but its just a normal rain.
Hey Margot! It’s snowing here tonight. Very beautiful outside, the trees are gorgeous with the limbs all laden with the snowfall.
I can’t wait!! :-D
best thing i ever did was retire from the pd — i enjoyed my time there but it was good i left when i did.
Ok, got MY attention, didja!!!
*G*
Nice pick.
mission accomplished — hey larue — how’s sac?
We had a retirement party at work on Sunday for a coworker — she’d been with the county for 32 years (!!!) — I’ll make 27 and change by the time I go.
Aloha, LL and Suz…!
aloha ct — how’s paradise?
Still listening to a lot of Dead lately —
please enjoy Peggy-O
Aloha CT!
I hope Virginny’s retirement plans are in better shape than Calpers…! (ducking…)
Reunion Jam, Original Band
dammit ct you trying to give me heart failure — whacha hear about calpers (my pension)?
74°F | °C
Current: Partly Cloudy
Wind: N at 0 mph
Humidity: 68%
(ducking again…)
I hope so too! (fingers crossed)
le sigh
le ducking won’t save ya dood
Fine, I’m digging now for some sourcing of Paul B and his bands over the years . . .
Thanks for the pick du nuit, on his second album, it’s a classic. I like the pick you chose, I like the original better.
Yer such a delight . . . always . . . you make me stretch outside what I like and know, and leave room to come back with the old school . . *G*
Hate to run, but I gotta — working some overtime at 1100 EST, and with the snow tonight I’ll have to get out early to clean off the car…thanks Suz, glad to see you and the pups even for a little bit :-) ‘Night all!
thanks dood — i just try to find music and such that ya’ll would like.
I can try, right…? Btw, I posted a new diary…! ;-)
trombone rock
it was another good one dood — recommended
Aloha, LL…!
g’nite ll — always good to see your fonts
Mahalo, M’dear…! *g*
What do you think silly.
We be LOST!! no spoilers to good to mess it up for others. The youngest isn’t watching cause he hasn’t seen season 5… poor kid..
hi suz and pups.
Icy rain last night and today. I declared it don’t pay bills day – no mail box access.
hey nahant — i can multi-task
I survived.
Going to seriously fall the hell down now. Hugz to y’all.
Nice tune honey.
G’night.
holy moly sunny — you got enough supplies stocked up to see ya through until its safe to go out again?
Hiya, Suzanne, pups.
Just home from work. I posted a Seminal diary earlier today, during a break. I hope to bring Sarah Palin a BIG bouquet of flowers soon.
happy belated birthday — sounds like you are still recovering from the celebration — g’thud dood
Turdblossoms I assume?
Peggy-O’s great. Sorry to miss you LL.
hey et — always nice to see ya. recommended your diary dood
So I couldn’t get anyone of the media to ask my question at the News Corp Q2 2010 conference call.
And I could not get on the conference call because it was press only. Btw the whole “citizen journalist” thing is tough because the gatekeepers won’t let you in unless you are a “real” press person. Funny that Fox limits who is a journlist or not.
This is the question I was going to ask.
“The group Color of Change convinced 81 advertisers to pull their ads from the Glenn Beck show because of his race baiting. I know you won’t break out the numbers, but when can the NewsCorp shareholders expect Fox to provide the revenue the Glenn Beck show *should* be generating based on its ratings.”
crap spocko — that was a great question too
31 degrees F, calm, smelling like possible new snow. We need some.
Please photograph the delivery of said bouquet for us…? ;-)
so does bc — they are trucking in snow for the olympics
and then diary it :)
Are you serious…?
Nice Butterfield blues, Suz! Party music, this too
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9URZfqYf2o
I didn’t know Bill O’Reilly had a cat?!.
i wasn’t clear — then et should diary the photograph and story of the delivery for us
hey emerson — how’s the east bay?
Should be fine – 29 now, but 50 tomorrow. Fortunately, roads were pretty clear when the freezing rain hit, so just a matter of black ice melting off.
Kids are getting used to no school.
hahahaha
parents must be ready for the kids to return to school tho :)
The cold way they treated Amy Goodman last month, you’d think it would have snowed five feet.
Hi Sunny, CT, Larue, everyone.
So what happened with the groundhog? I heard 2 versions, one he did not see his shadow and one he did.
tis a dayam shame
Suz, I was actually asking about them trucking in snow for the Olympics…! 8-(
holy moly that was a cliffhanger (laughing)
For Sure! Whats next??
sorry ct — my bad. can i use my one lost excuse? *g*
nightline is all about lost tonight…
For any pups that don’t KNOW of Butterfields woiks, here’s the rundown:
First, There Was This
You can’t FIND any better blues work than this, and any better band.
This, Was The Game Changer, For Rock, All The Modal, The New.
And on East/West, besides the title track of 13+ minutes, Work Song is one of the best produced and played songs ever. It uses lyrics, harp, git one, git two, piano for intro solo’s, then they cut it in half, then they cut it in half again time wise, and wind up with a crescendo of all solo that makes ya wanna scream.
East/West was awesome, and the last of the original band (they changed drummers in the two first projects, kept the bass player(.
You can’t get much better with Butterfield, Bloomfield on git, Bishop on git, Naftlin on piano, Arnold on bass.
And then, it all broke up and Butterfield went this way:
PigBoy
Elvin Bishop stayed, and Paul added horns and a new band. If you’ve never heard One More Heartache, you don’t know Butterfield.
In My Own Dream Is Sweet, And Different
The run for Butterfield kinda ends with Better Days, where he has Amos Garrett and Geoff Mulduar from Jim Kweskin’s Jug Band in the band, and THEY kick ass in different Butterfield way, but one that’s lovely.
Saw This Band, In SF, Winterland
I saw Butterfield twice, in the same year, once with Better Days (with Boz Scaggs), once as the ButterField Blues Band.
Both at Winterland, circa ’74 or so?
With Better Days, he had Garrett and Muldaur and played a lot from Pigboy, In My Own Dream, and such.
In the second show, on the night with Michael’s Band, Elvin’s band, he was understated with his configuration.
Until they finished their sets.
Then, Paul, Michael, Elvin, Mark Naftlin and many others, took the stage, and recreated Work Song, Mystery Train, Thank You Mr. Poobah, MoneyMaker, and finished the night out with Got My Mojo Woikin.
Greatest show ever? Yeah.
But I’m shaded that way.
*G*
who woulda thought it’d be another old white guy?
lost reminds me of stephen king’s the stand. totally unbelievable but riveting.
work song *sigh*
My tea guy is. His daughter & a friend rode a sled into a wire fence, while he watched in horror – she’s bruised and her skin is a mess, but eyes and bones ok.
I insisted he photograph her as a reminder. Each girl says it was the other’s fault;
The better half is making me watch ‘Lost’ as I type…! *g*
ohmystars sunny
What did they ask instead? “will there be a Sequel to Avatar?”
and since as a whole Fox did will make money they didn’t care. I was trying to use the greed of the shareholderthro get my question answered.
I get pissed how they give a monoply breaks. “sure lose money for years.” they would not cut a regular company slack. “we Want more money this quarter!”
this is the power of the monoply media consolidation.
Damn, he’s not old, or weak . . . that’s great . . . and other vids on the menu show him still strong in all aspects, despite of his habits . . .
That was fine, LL, thanks! *G*
One I’ve not heard of seen BTW . . .
we laughed about that one..
Aloha, Margot… I’d heard he saw his shadow… Sorry…! ;-)
how often do they have these meetings? once a year?
What did the candy bar say when it went thru the candy wrapping machine?
Curses, foiled again . . . (groans for all y’all)
Oh you poor poor kid CT..
Commented there, and elsewhere.
Keep the truth going, it’s all so convuluted, and we lost Studs Turkel and now Howard Zinn, to tell us the trughts.
Thanks for your posit.
Dayang!
*G*
forking kewl huh?
He thinks 50 is bad, wait for the next 5 years . . . ;-)
Good to have fun, though . . . thud!
Been there, did it . . *G*
Quarterly. Last quarter I contacted the financial analysts. This quarter I contacted the press but they didn’t ask. I was hoping that I could ask myself.
So suz… any idea if the charcoal background is a forever feature?
twas another special ad buy and should be down tomorrow morning is my understanding
any other shareholders you could band together with?
Thanks CT, kind of what I thought. :)
That’s some anthology, Larue. Agree with you on East/West. Got to know it a little later, but that was some band!
Not that worn out are ya? Or, yer schedule’s shot to shit?
LOLOLOLOL
Get package?
Hey spocko. Isn’t there some kind of local paper that could credential you? Or are they highly selective?
Read the diary once over lightly. Hugh made an interesting revelation of the facts.
i started out looking for some bloomfield and ended up with butterfield
hey bb — how’s the bay?
PA Phil sez 6 mo weeks . .
Other states, includink Sarah’s, wanna emu late, or moose a late . .

Hugh always does…! ;-)
congrats on snaggin the 100 sunny
Thanks, I’m a bit partial to Paul B, and his bands . . . *G*
yea.
almost went with this one but the video sucked
Life is rough, eh…? ;-)
don’t think you are gonna get any sympathy dood (laughing) wish i could watch it again
in paradise
Thanks. Small bills please.
sorry sunny — can’t get them into the forking modem….
Well I did ask Rayne of FDL. Here is another problem with being a blogger trying to get onto a call.
“I’m Michal Spocko calling for Fire Dog Lake.”
“you are who calling from what? This call is for press only unless you are a member of the media we can’t let you on.”
“But I’m a blogger. A citizen journalist!”
“yeah right. The public can listen to the call if they want, but we can’t open it up to every person with a laptop and blog. You need to be a journalist or financial analyst.”
Are you getting cabin fever?
(Chocolate and mystery novels are good when that happens, I’ve found…)
Let me reiterate… Life is rough…! 8-P
really .. been up the mountain lately?
Good LORD that’s a great song, and THAT version is as good as the studio version, off of East/West.
Great live version, I see the FLD vid issue . . . .
Dayam Paul growls . . . so fine.
hmmmm marcy and bmaz might know a thing or two about getting press credentials. i know teddy and david got them for the prop8 trial — you could ask them also.
This past Wednesday nite and Friday nite… The moon was an awesome sight to behold…! ;-)
yup and yup :(
One of Palin’s last official acts was to sign into law Groundhog Day in Alaska becoming Marmot Day. The Marmot is supposed to check on his/her shadow today.
Only problem – all the Marmots in Alaska are still asleep for another seven to nine weeks.
The bill was introduced by Sen. Linda Menard, who many regard to be the mother of the true father of Palin’s older son, Track.
Given all that Spocko has done for the prog cause, it would be GREAT if he could get some FDL creds for further adventures . . .*G*
Heysoos marimbas, who would be the father then?
Damn, what a cozy little community, up there . . .
I am jealous CT.. do ya ever get to see any of the astronomer’s work??
geez louise et
They do let you listen? That’s interesting.
Geebuz, just finished it . . . Mikey B was on fire . . . as was all the band . . . thanks!
not sure if fdl cred will get him Fox Corporation press credentials but the names i mentioned might know how
Dayam, ET, what a wicked web indeed…! ;-)
That I do, in fact Friday’s was an amorphous ball of flames…! ;-)
Dr. Curt Menard, Jr. He was a wonderful guy. Killed when the engine on his Cessna 182 died mysteriously about 8 years ago. He was my kids’ orthodontist.
More here.
can ya get electronic copies for an amateur to drool over??
i’m hoping this year will be the year i get up to alaska. will depend on april 15th and if i have my teeth paid off in time to save up. if not this year — next for sure.
All proprietary, dood…! 8-(
Chocolate doesn’t last 24 hrs @ chez sunny.
But I’m working my way through Tim Dorsey’s crack-up funny Florida mysteries. Those FL journalists write insane books. Finished a Hiaasen marathon a while back, discovered Shames and now I’m scrounging for more Dorsey.
in reading a between the numbers — plum spooky
We’ve got the light on for you and a nice room, Suz.
Oh, wait – we don’t need the light on in the summer…
Geebers, darker and darker it gets . . . .
Hah! Next time I see ya. *g*
They do offer some meager pittances tho…! ;-)
McConnell Fighting Effort To Block Political Spending By Foreign Corporations
Thanks Missy McConnell.. Freak of the Senate..
For Suz . . . Mikey, Al, and Some Guy Zimmerman.
Old Schoo!
*laughing* well do i just fine at night but then your winters have all that snow. all those years of working nights and now sunlight hurts.
Suz, I’ve long had a hankering to take the ferry up there.. Betcha it’s a blast.
that’s sweet dood — always been partial to tombstone
ferry or a cruise — i’ve thought about a one way cruise to et’s and maybe another cruise home. i’ve not flown in years and see no reason to have to take off my shoes and get a body scan to go on vacation.
its something and bookmarked for later… thanks CT.
Our summer sunlight does not hurt, my dear. It is all-embracing, but seldom too overwhelming, because it comes through the atmosphere at such an indirect angle.
sweet — sounds like my kinda place already (during the non-snow seasons)
We are fucked from the outside, from the inside, and from the roots of our own party.
And I never got a kiss, or a stick of buttah.
Go figger.
this kinda buttah?
Bog and Butterfields guys did lots of stuff on a few projects, along with Kooper.
I miss it all . . . thanks for the reply.
Howzit up there, weather wize? You gettin rain WE ain’t gettin, I noticed recently . . .
Lesigh.
not much — only a wee bit more than a half inch. supposed to rain off an on all week — but not storm.
Tell us about the ice cracking in the early spring . . . like I saw on Northern Exposure!
Do you people REALLY build machines to launch grand pianos???
/s
*G*
Yes. The public can listen in. Rupert was going on about how. Content is not only King But Emperior. He talked about how they get money from affiliates and from cable rates.
Because of the way the corporation is set up I knew that even if I got
y question asked he did not have to answer. Corporations can hide the subsidizing of a money losing show under money making shows.
With the new supreme court decision fox will make more money on political advertising.
Must see the Northern Lights, Suz. Other-worldly.
I’ve got Plum Lovin and Plum Lucky here. Plum Lucky may be yours. I’ve also got Metro Girl, 13, 14 and Visions of Sugar Plums.
Way past due getting the Suz box out.
true dat..
Uh-oh, The summer is the time of the Midnight Sun, M’dear…! It would play havoc with your schedule…! ;-)
Heh, yer killin me . . . ya sordid artistic type vagrant, ya . . . ;-)
I missed those episodes.
Bob, BOB and Butterfield’s guys, I meant . . . sigh . . . spellin counts . . . *rollseyes*
i’ve read all but 14 — i think — which one was 14.
yup — i hoped when i moved up here this was north enough but…. *sigh* they are on my list
WHO dat?!?!?!?
WHAT dat?!?!?!?
WHY dat?!?!?!?!
Where dat?!?!?!?!!?
Soon to be answered . . .
GO Colts! Dat who!!!!
;-)
Sorry If it seemed I was busting yer chops . . . .
oh crap
Nope Saints… ask BFL..
Four hours of darkness is not conducive, eh…? ;-)
i’m gonna have to go up during the winter if i wanna see the northern lights eh?
We saw them in September. I think it was around Denali? Can’t remember now.
Eye shades and ear plugs . . . common camping and coping materials for late night people, in any sitch.
;-)
Got a nickel? *G*
hmmmmm
I heard March and September were the best times.
Dood, the Ain’ts will prevail… Like I said on an earlier thread… “Fat Tuesday will be especially special this year”…! ;-)
i can sleep fine in the daytime — in fact my fav time to go to bed is as dawn is breaking
Northern lights, they don’t light up in the summer?
Has to be winter don’t it?
S’heah, without dark velvet drapes and windows covered up to hide the reality of Ra?
*G*
And I can’t sleep now, with all that . . lol
never been a problem. only time sleeping in the daytime sucks is when it gets hot and there is no ac. the heat will wake me up — not the light.
found this:
http://gocalifornia.about.com/od/ak/a/nlights.htm
I got problems with both light and heat . . . yer lucky!! *G*
time for turning in see ya Pups.
above 60 degrees north and during the equinoxes… how cool thanks emerson my 45 degrees north don’t come close
g’nite nahant — waving to julie and tucker
This is correct. Saints 38-35. Brees is MVP.
Wow, twilight, not the midnight . . . I stand further educated!
Thanks Emerson!!!!
i carry my own personal summer around with me — i don’t need extra
We saw them for 20 minutes at about 1 am. If you’re on a cruise, head for the bar on the top deck, grab a drink and enjoy! I never saw anything like it. Pull an all-nighter and you’ll see glaciers. *g*
Aloha, nahant…!
UH, wrong.
Yanqui defense WILL hold Brees and his offensive line, to less.
NOLA defensive line, will NOT beat up Manning, like they need to.
The end game will be defense, turnovers, special teams.
As in all playoff football.
Colts got better defense, turnovers are unpredictable, and special teams?
Well then, perhaps that’s where the game turns.
Or Manning picks apart the Saints D, the Colts offensive line protects him till the cows come home, and it’s 45-3.
Who was DAT?!?!? OMFG??????
*G*
No, we saw them later, Larue. Maybe that’s another time of the year?
that sounds like the way to do it. i’ll have to consider that when thinking about how to get up there and back — i also thought of driving the alaska highway but i do like the idea of being on the top deck with a drink in hand watching the show in the skies…
I think it’ll be a wider margin than that, but, Brees will be the MVP if Reggie Bush doesn’t post 150+ yards…! ;-)
Hah! I think you forgot a crooked number in that score Larue.
Dood, I need some of what you’re smoking…! ;-)
Suz at the very beginning of the summer they have re-positioning cruises for a couple of weeks – very (dirt) cheap. We took one from Juneau to Vancouver years ago.
For the first couple of weeks of the season the ships are full going up, but passengers stay to do tours – deals are to ensure the ships don’t return empty.
They flew us up from Seattle on Air Alaska, we kicked around for a while, then returned on a cruise ship down the inside passage. At that time all the cruises ended in Vancouver… dunno if still true. Not a huge fan of cruise ships so one way was enough for me.
Because they don’t want to compete with themselves, these repositioning voyages are usually limited to left coasters and advertised locally. Seems word got out and they are currently more careful about ensuring the passengers truly *are* left coasters. There is an online site that follows this stuff.
I think they do the reverse at the end of the season. Not sure if you can do this through a travel agent.
Geebuz, you just SAID it was twilight, I said I thought it was always midnight.
When is the time for the Northern Lights?
I always thought it was in the deep of winter, when it was DARK all the time, virtually NO sun but for a few hours a day at most if any . .
And you said that was wrong . . .
I’m confused, Em, totally confused . . .
Talk to me day after, hoss . . .*G*
I might hafta push a drinkie yer way if I’m wrong . .
*G*
I don’t THINK so, homie . . . *G*
All the way around…! ;-)
thanks sunny — i’ve never done a cruise so figure a one way is the way to do it first time out. if i like it, do the return the same. if i ever win the lotto, i’m gonna travel in style instead of looking for bargains.
Oh, sorry, too many for NOLA?
Who DAT?
Folks dying in Morelli’s basement.
sunny snagged the 200 :)
trying to dig it up? i think i read that one
Great, I got an Islander from the South Pacific, tellin me I’m wrong about the Northern Lights, and when they occur, and THEN, has the noive to tell me, NOLA will beat Colts . . .
Love ya hoss . . . bless ya . . .
If I’m wrong on either, I’m cookin for you and family . . . ;-)
This South Pacific ‘native’ has seen the Northern Lights live and in stereo…! ;-)
We took this one, Suz. Looks like you get a discount! RC is kind of staid, but pleasant. You can find party ships too, and they’re cheaper and younger.
Sunny’s right about leaving from seattle and returning to Vancouver. Spend a few days there, it has a SF feel and is easy to get around.
http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/ships/home.do;jsessionid=0000P8ePVODyprOm_Vf5CsO9GFX:13hldio7n?dest=ALCAN
Dood, if you take a shot every time NO scores, you’ll wake up Monday! *g*
thanks emerson — the main draw back to a cruise is i travel solo so would have to pay extra for not being a couple. and not being able to take token — is why i’ve also thought of doing an rv on the alaska highway.
Oof, that’ll leave a mark…! ;-)
looks like 2 discounts — for age and retirement emerson. i do love to save money when i spend it.
well, she said it’s at twilight, but we saw a helluva show at 1 am. Damndest thing I ever saw.
Yeah, I figgered that, with yer experiences . . .
So, when do they happen?
Most SB fans will, too . . . how am I gonna be different?
*G*
The drive alone, would be a thrill of a lifetime . . .
Yer so bold . . . GO for it!
You did.
Dare ya!!!!
I saw them when I was in Pine Point, NWT, in April…! It’s the latitude more than the time of year… Obviously, you have a slimmer window of opportunity in the Summer months…! ;-)
dang — still waiting for the next one to come out in paperback then. i think i heard 16 will be out soon so 15 should be released in paper shortly thereafter.
I’d bet the Lights are after midnight!
So far, no one to tell me different!
And from what I’ve seen in pics and youtubes, they are incredible.
One in a lifetime . . . . which makes you and yers a lucky and happy human!
*G*
Carnaval is the party boat. Don’t take the one with “Dutch” in the title. There’s alot of price comparisons to do when you know when you want to go. I was on a few of them (working.)
Sorry, what’s NWT?
long drive for just me and token in an rv. not sure i wanna spend that much time driving.
i’ll be in touch with you for tips when i eventually save up the $$$ for the trip.
Hah! As Rosalind Russell said to Cary Grant in “His Girl Friday”–”AW, there you got me.”
Northwest Territories…! ;-)
I hear ya, and that don’t account for Bailey, either . . .
Two weeks there and back of driving? Or more?
You’d have to be happy to do so . . . . and enjoy that ride.
If me and mine were rich, we’d go with ya, and you’d bring the pets!!!
And we’d cook and clean, and pay for gas, and food, and . . . and . . . and . . .
*G*
Alas . . . .
Deal.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj2yikTmfKE
’bout time for me to head out. thank you for all the music and conversations tonight (and putting up with my watching lost while hosting). it will only be on those rare tue nights between now and end of may when lost is a 2 hour episode that will happen.
g’nite all
Oh . . . thanks, hoss . . . loved yer recent posts on Israel, btw . . . said so below, and at your dairy’s.
saw this as i was leaving. bailey doesn’t like riding in the car. she tolerated the move but she did express her disapproval multiple times during that drive.
taking emerson’s deal and poofing
Aloha, Suz…! *g*
Damn, aside from Lauren Bacall to Bogey, “You DO know how to whistle, don’t you? You put lips together and blow.”, your pick is one of the all time classics!!!
*G*
Now that’s a classic . . . one I’ve heard from the Band, and Jerry’s Band, as well, in my time.
Thanks!
Nite Suz, nite all Pups, always a pleasure to chat, be well, may your family’s be well.
May we waken to a better dawn and time.
Namaste, FIrePups, one and all . . .
I’m all about Cary Grant, Roz, Irene Dunne, Hepburn, Fred McMurray, Bogart, Cagney, George Raft, Bette Davis, Stanwyck. Named my cat Spence after Spencer Tracy.
We harmonize to that one!
g’nite Suz, larue, CT and all other pups!
Aloha, emerson, larue, etal…! *g*
We enjoyed Vancouver so much, we went back from another (business) trip to Seattle, then took the Canadian ferry over to Vancouver Island – probably my second most favorite place evah!
The flight/cruise back trip we took was nice because we were just ahead of the season – things were pretty relaxed, but the weather was great. If memory serves, we were on RC. Trip down the passage was phenomenal.
