By: Spencer Ackerman Friday January 15, 2010 7:30 pm

Just out from the ACLU: a redacted list naming 645 detainees held by the U.S. at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan.

Asymmetrical Privacy

By: Eli Friday January 15, 2010 6:01 pm

Isn’t it funny how conservatives are suddenly all about privacy now? They don’t believe in any kind of right to privacy when it comes to abortion or gay sex or warrantless wiretapping, but God forbid that anyone should ever want to see what they’re up to.

Looking at the Labor Deal: Why Would Anyone Want to Move to the Exchange?

By: Jon Walker Friday January 15, 2010 2:35 pm

Why would anyone want to move from a large employer plan to the new exchanges? I honestly don’t know. My strong suspicion is that there is another very important part to this provision we currently don’t know about; I get the sense that there is much more to this moving-to-the-exchange provision than we know right now.

Major PR Push to Assure Observers That Health Care Bill is a Done Deal

By: David Dayen Friday January 15, 2010 1:15 pm

There’s a major push by House leaders today to judge the health care bill a fait accompli and ensure everyone that the deal put together by both chambers of Congress and the White House, which could be topped off in the next few days, will have no problem passing the House. Expect to see a run on words like “perfect,” “enemy” and “good.”

By: Jane Hamsher Friday January 15, 2010 12:20 pm

I’ve heard some chatter that the reason the House wants to delay passage of a health care bill is to get past many of the primary filing deadlines out of fear that a vote for these provisions will be unpopular and trigger enthusiasm for primary challenges.
