Went Nordic skiing in a serious way today – five miles – for the first time in four or five years. Beautiful day: mid-20s, no wind, the sun rising up a bit higher on the southern horizon every day.

Felt good, but my my thighs are sore.

I’m settling in with my dog [no fire or Lakers] and reading Matt Taibbi’s RS article from December on Obama’s sell-out to the bankers.

We had so many wonderful fires this week with the in-laws. The one thing I wanted to tell you is that last August when we visited Campobello Island, we saw so many eagles. In fact, at the Canada border, there was one sitting in the top of a tree, just looking for lunch!

I have 6 of 9 males in the military in that same description. My brother and a cousin are fathers of several of them and are still in the military.

Let me put it this way. In 1880 the Canfields and by marriage with others had over 2000 acres of ranch and farmland in WY. Today, my 2nd cousin Wallace, has 200, and lets cows out in Fed land. It’s his kids that are 2 of my 6 in the military. Why? ‘Cause they can’t make a living anymore off the land, and they’ve been really good stewards.

There’s a lot of these people in the Mountain West. And they’re clamoring for “their country back.” In a certain way, I really can’t blame them.

I really can’t blame them. That’s why I don’t live in WY anymore, and they throw that in my face constantly.

I totally long for a little green ranch, to have some privacy by geography, have some great horses, nice green crops, make some money…But it’s near impossible.

I tell ya, KC, I did it anyway about seven years back…. and I make a quarter or less per year than i did before… but most days without question it was the right thing to do. Life is much better this way (outside of the rat race).

She’s mostly hanging out in the NYC area, for all I know. The weather this winter fits within the normal parameters of our slowly warming series of winters I’ve witnessed here since 1973.

The only Polar bears I’ve seen that weren’t in zoos were from a tugboat off the North Slope, in 1982. They were way deep into an ice pack to our north, sleeping in the mid-day sun.

My “it’s not me” responses must have finally reached his agent or someone responsible, who took me off the list.

Oh, and Queen Palin was here a couple of weeks ago [this is where the picture of the visor with McCain's name inked out was taken], but she left because of too many paparazzi.
