Hello hostess Suzanne CTuttle which means what? Neeed to clear up the semantics. Smirking while eating black bean rice soup with fresh horseradish, ginger and chili.
Gust of 70 mph here. Surf 30 feet West and Nothwesr beaches coastal flooding, Low tides will help. Sewer watchers (us) are camera teady for gravity collection overflows.Last week it was two earthquakes on in Eureka other Haiti. Wackos want a sewer collection in our only drinking water supply.
Fine, no problems here, feeling very guilty about all the times I’ve bitched about weather. God, I have it so good. Shelter, water, food, heat. And feeling glad to see you all.
socal is gonna get nailed… my mom said she’s gonna get rain in phoenix area from the storm as it blows east from la. said the 12 years she lived in palm springs they never had a forecast like this one
lot of Cal Poly kids here are from CV. I did a hot yoga class with 50 tonight. Most could not keep up with me it makes it hotter and muggier with all those lungs blowing and bodies perspiring. In fairness they recover quicker.
We’re getting forecasts of 65 mph winds tomorrow. Not good. The ground is soaked and that’s when trees fall down. It’s time to fill water reserves.
Oh my god, Ronald Reagan was right, “Trees are killers.”.
We’ve always had alot of kids from here go to Cal Poly. What’s not to like? live on the coast no parents and magnificent landscape. It beats this repubulikan mecha all to hell.
Great – we went to the movies to see “Up In the Air” today.” I thought that it might be a fun comedy. No way. I laughed at first like crazy, and wept like a baby near the end. What a great film and I can’t believe that it did NOT win Golden Globes tonight.
I’ve been good. Eyes tired from reading the liveblogging, of course, but SO proud of Teddy and Marcy. I’ve spread the word to my politically interested friends so they can get with the program. Also a bit of back ache from lifting 30 pound toddler boys one time too many, I think. But they are such cabbage patch munchkins that it is hard to resist just scooping them up.
“once you’re a jet”… I’m totally sucked into the “Oz” series from HBO, via netflix. Violent, ugly, fascinating in a dark soap opera kind of way. Rita Moreno is incredible in it.
Suz sent me a great detailed report . . . and all I’m reading, seeing at NOAA and on local TV has us in Sacto and Central CA and SoCal getting high amounts of rainfall, gusting winds, and tons of snow in the mountains thru at least next Sunday . . .
Pretty steadily since late last night, short periods of no rain, but sprinkles, light drizzles, and downpours all day.
Just looked out front door, no rain, but wind has picked up, I’d say at about 25mph, gusting more at times. Plenty black clouds to the south, comin our way, black clouds to the west, also . . . El Nino is in play, and it could get real hairy for all of CA at times in the next week or so . . .
As the info YOU sent me suggests, if Pineapple Express Jet Stream shifts in, it will bring warmer rains to all of CA, ‘specially SoCal in a week or so, JUST after record rains across the state and snowfall in the Sierra we haven’t seen in a decade or more . . . with that warm rain melting the snow . . . . reservoirs state wide could fill in a week or 10 days . . . then Da Pineapple Exp? Pressure on the rivers, levee’s, reservoirs, and of course, on the neighbor hood pumping stations and drainage systems . . . fun!
Last time we had these conditions water went over the Friant Dam and flooded the tiny city of Friant but also made it’s way along the San Joaquin River and flooded ALOT of land along the way. Lots of folks lots their homes.
looks like the west coast is gonna have a bumpy ride weatherwise. sure hope everyone has their emergency kits (just in case). wind and rain usually means power failures.
I picked Indy and Nawlins at the start of the year, but my Jets are really fun to watch..and OVERDUE! I think any matchup will be great at this point Larue, but I’m only going to Miami if the Jets make it.
It was the nadir of FDL . . . *G* More useless BS than I’ve ever read on this site . . . more names of folks here less n 6 months or even 6 weeks or 6 days, too . . . . Same with a thread or two today, fairly new names just completely dominating the thread, and hard to tell what many of them are actually rooting for or against, at times.
I didn’t see a LOT of regular names . . . Mauimom, Selise, Newtonusr . . . a few others.
That’s a shame, she’s an incredible actress, her PBS cop/detective series was one of the greats.
Ok, fine, it’s funny in a mean and nasty HollyWood Gossip way . . . . they coulda picked on some of the idiots that were interviewed earlier who had a hard time forming complete sentences and thoughts, though.
Got my wood stove and more than a cord of cut split Almond.. heat..
Got plenty a propane for da gas burner.. got food… water stored.. set… at least in the short term..
Got batteries for flash lights and charged up my Coleman neon lantern. Getting gas for the generator. PGE will have a handfull with the wind. Got some vittles and the stairmaster is in the kitchen now.
Central CA? I think of Santa Cruz to SLO . . . I KNOW Santa Cruz is and will be getting hammered hard. You need water where you are at? (like all of CA, lololol)
everyone have gas in their vehicle in case they need to make a hasty exit… and a plan for where and when to go?
i used to use the water line on the creek as my gauge — i was told by an old timer there that if the water came up to a certain tree to head out and to higher ground.
I’m in the Central Valley. Cental california, but inland. We most definitely can use the rain. We are on schedule for the rainfall this year but that is following 3 years of mediocre rainfall. We need all we can get. We heard rumors about no lawn watering this summer.
Heh, my brother and his wife used to be rangers at Friant! Lived in Fresno. I used to go thru that region for backpacking access to The Sierra’s, a topo called Blackcap Basin . . . past Huntington Lake, out into Dinkey Creek, up to Wishon Reservoir, Cortwright Reservoir . . . Thomas Edison Lake, Shaver Lakes, know I’m missin a couple.
They were mostly at 6-8,500K, with parking. Scoot right on up to 10K in a half day or day easily, and boom, High Sierra’s right there!!! *G*
keep in mind that was the stuff that got through… mod squad was busier than a one armed piccolo player. some folks are really in touch with their inner ugly
i do that all the time with my girls…. i will purposely try to say jen and say steph and visa versa. if i talk to my sister on the phone i’ll start calling the girls sherry instead of the other wrong name.
Story of Mavericks, with a couple on a waverunner who were part of the saftey teams, JUST after contest was called off for conditions too grueling . . . rode out 3 100 footers and lived.
See Mav’s site . . . their accounts will make your hair stand on end . . . *G*
My father gave up early. Called each of us by all the names, e.g. Susan Mary Joan Patsy.
He traveled constantly on business and really didn’t know us well until his later years. On the weekends all he wanted was peace, quiet and yardwork. Refused to travel for recreation, so we all got sent to camp.
you bet I have some sweeties dad’s apple tree that died. saving the heart for smoking ribs and stuff… hmmm maybe after this week of rain I will just have to fire it up.
oh my stars how gross…. token insisted on going outside to do his business and came running back in with some critter’s entrails trailing from his mouth… i made him drop it out on the deck but ewwwww squeek and shrudder
sometimes that terrier side of him really comes out
He was doing well for the Jets last year until he got his shoulder trashed. I saw Montana and his family in Maui one year. I always had a thing about being underwater. Probably former life fears. Tried to beat it by taking scuba training at the hotel.
All these 7-year olds had no problem with it. I, of course, hated it, surfaced twice and then said this is not my thing. Montana’s son sez, “Daddy, what’s wrong with that man?” Everybody around the pool loses it and Montana nearly falls off the top of the slide laughing. I yelled over, Hey Montana, you looked pretty funny against the Giants last year, too.”
Gas in the wagon tomorrow morning . . . frig and freezer and pantry stocked with water, also.
Gas for the camp lantern, candles galore, and gas for the camp stove.
Flashlights, batteries, and music devices all charged up for entertainment.
Instruments, backpacking and camping equipment, foul weather gear, meds, first aid, computer and important papers in ONE large portable file cabinet all set to go. All plastic cards and any items of personal identity located and ready to shove into one container.
I guess we head East and look for higher ground . . . maybe in both cars . . . time to load? 45 minutes. Might even work in a cooler or two of food from frig and freezer in that time . . . honey has a dear friend in El Dorado Hills . . . guess we could grubstake her place, they’d likely put us up for a week or a month INSIDE . . . if needed.
I begin to weep thinking of the stuff I’d leave behind that I’d lose to 4-6 foot of water in our cave . . . stuff I’ve had since 4 years old, stuff and momento’s from parents, books I got thru my life I’ve held onto . . .
hehehehe i’ve always wanted to try scuba diving or snorkling. the one time i was in hawaii i was dealing with morning sickness (the oldest) the entire time and wasn’t in the mood to try.
funny how that works… speaking of family my sis from Boston came visiting with her son wife and two kids… was great to see her again… made two beer can chickens with Yukon gold taters and salad.
I love the Jack Cassidy’s, Jack Bruce’s especially, and Bill Wyman . . . he’s well rounded with his craft.
But yeah, The Ent, he had the insanity of Jack Cassidy who toured with James Brown before the early Jeff Airplane, and then the second Airplane . . . The Ent had the thump and rock of Jack Bruce, and he had the stoicism of Bill Wyman, and Wyman’s sense of jazz influences . . .
The Ent . . . hard to think of another rock bass player (I don’t count Sting as a picker) that tops The Ent.
surprising us all. she is fading fast and has good days and bad days but everytime the doc says she’s not long for this world she makes a liar outta him. her dementia is getting much worse and she is living in assisted living.
There were all SORTS of rumors in CA this past summer . . . and I garentee if we don’t have reservoir fillin rains and snows this winter, shit’s gonna get REAL hard . . . . for us all . . . from daily usages of people, farms, fishes, and the general environment . . . blow the economy out, any NUMBER of ways, top to bottom. And that will only add to the unemployment pic state wide that exists . . . .
just let it rain smart. breaks so the ground can dry out before more rain. those breaks are so important. its the continual rain for days on end that causes trouble.
Heh heh heh, I wondered about that fleetingly at times, when RGB had to step in . . . thanks for reminding what I see is only the TIP of the iceberg!!! Sigh, great folks you backstage folks are . . . .
Send some good old Makers Mark to them all for me, will ya? And those that don’t, some of my green pork chili. *G*
Sigh, I so miss the Sierra’s . . . but without working out for 6 months, I’d die my first day on the trail up there!! lol
I’m completely jealous you are so near to a piece of CA that is a big piece of my heart . . . *G*
Thanks for taking care of it all for me while I’m away!!! lol
There are blog sites of backpackers I’ve read over the years, when searching for info about the places I walked back in the 70′s.
Some have reports and pictures galore, of places I actually walked thru . . . that’s such a shock to be scrolllin thru someone’s trip, knowing where they are and where they are headed, and suddenly see a campsite or lake I’ve been at . . . some lower, some up above 12,000 feet . . . spooky, and sad and mournful.
But man the thrill comes rushing back, fast, and I’m 20 something, and I can do anything . . . ya know . .. ;-)
something we’re all going to face on an intimate level. Doesn’t make it any easier. Personally, when I lose it, just pull the plug. My mom told me the same thing.
Me and mine are talking about it . . . how do we deal with it . . . when one loses it . . . at what point do we cave in and accept it’s time for intervention? Our parents, they continue to teach us, from cradle to grave . . . even as they pass.
I actually think, that’s one hell of a grand and noble existence we all get to take part in . . . . and yet, we all have to confront our mortality.
At some point . . . . what do we leave behind, and to whom? How do we go? If with a spouse, how do you handle that history of being together? How do you care for the other, when you are slipping or going, if there’s no other family? What do you have to do legally?
Don’t mean to bum the thread . . . sorry . . . . slipped off into stuff . . .
It’s the action question of our time, IMO. I have seen many cases where a spouse dies and within the year-the mate dies. It’s otherworldly to me, yet comforting, in that humans can still decide if they want to be here or not. I’m probably not the ideal one to ask because I’ve never married. But from a parent/offspring POV, the idea of my parents not living with one of we four is crazy, but that is the emotional reaction and not the practical one, perhaps.
Aloha, Suz…! ;-)
aloha ct — how’s paradise tonight?
Wet and dreary…! ;-)
wet and windy here — picked up .22 inches since 8pm and the winds are getting stronger.

I am good. I sure enjoyed Lisa’s Golden Globes liveblogging post earlier; it reminded me of when we used to do that with Christy.
boa and tiara blogging *sigh*
Indeed. I heard we’d be getting more however, mr tbsa told me the wind is blowing the storm that was coming in tomorrow further south.
Fine, no problems here, feeling very guilty about all the times I’ve bitched about weather. God, I have it so good. Shelter, water, food, heat. And feeling glad to see you all.
socal is gonna get nailed… my mom said she’s gonna get rain in phoenix area from the storm as it blows east from la. said the 12 years she lived in palm springs they never had a forecast like this one

bitching about the weather was about the only other thing i do that wasn’t in this video (laughing) well i do remember to put on my pants
Anyone risk their life in them? To windy I bet. Hawaii has awesome surfer people.
Sigh, yes.
Looks pretty substantial on radar. I know we need it, but with all the fires, there have been really knarly mud slides in la.
hey ce — how ya doing tonight?
*sigh* hope they’ve had time and money to prep the hillsides to try to prevent the worst of it
We’re getting forecasts of 65 mph winds tomorrow. Not good. The ground is soaked and that’s when trees fall down. It’s time to fill water reserves.

Also a bit of back ache from lifting 30 pound toddler boys one time too many, I think. But they are such cabbage patch munchkins that it is hard to resist just scooping them up.

Back side of wave? Or the face? If I recall, doesn’t the face measure taller?
Wonder how many millions of acre feet it is carrying ACF= 325,000 gallons and it comes with a lot of embedded energy. Right in the shipping lanes

http://www.accuweather.com/index-radar.asp?partner=netweather&traveler=0&zipcode=93711
I enjoyed what they did to the Chargers today, Sanchez is a delight to watch.
But don’t they have to beat Peyton and Da Colts?
I’m REALLY pullin for Old Man Favre, what a day HE had, the whole TEAM had, today!
IF their defense can hold Brees to mortal stats, and their DFence is GOOD, a Vikes Old Man Win is in my cards.
Something like 38-31 . . . we’ll see.
Hard for me to think Jets can get past Colts, though . . .
I’d LOVE to see Old Man Favre and Manning in the StuporBowl . . .*G*
Larue yep that fall!
My Fair Lady (behind the scenes w/Julie)

I’m in the Central Valley. Cental california, but inland. We most definitely can use the rain. We are on schedule for the rainfall this year but that is following 3 years of mediocre rainfall. We need all we can get. We heard rumors about no lawn watering this summer.

Let It Rain was one of my all time favs . . . still is . . . man that song rocks . .

Just saw the video Suz. *G* I like the bit about, “…the taller one- you know- the one who still lives here.”
Incredible it was filmed and preserved. Life beating art…. or something like that.
i do that all the time with my girls…. i will purposely try to say jen and say steph and visa versa. if i talk to my sister on the phone i’ll start calling the girls sherry instead of the other wrong name.
No chit. My house definitely moved in 89.
I wonder why nobody ever filmed the stage production? Maybe someone did and its in boxes in their attic.

Story of Mavericks, with a couple on a waverunner who were part of the saftey teams, JUST after contest was called off for conditions too grueling . . . rode out 3 100 footers and lived.
See Mav’s site . . . their accounts will make your hair stand on end . . . *G*
Once my grandmother hit 90, all bets were off. After a while, she just gave up on the whole idea of identification.
Me: “Nonni, what did you do with newspaper?”
Nonni: Oh, I gave it to …thing.”
my grandma turned 94 yesterday
does it smell like toasted almonds? She asks hopefully.
Colts will be a challange . . . . way to root for YOUR team, though, mine are still in development stages.
One’s developing, the other is in rehab and relapse at the same time . . . . sigh.
I’ve always like Favre. I’ve clung to him post Montana for a hero . . . I’m in SUCH withdrawl locally, alas.
Let It Rain, Although, Not Delaney N Bonney In ’70 . .
Duck! And Cover! lol
It reminds me of elementary school.
Good, then we ain’t old yet . . . *G*
Course, I don’t have gam’s like Rita and Julie do . . . prolly a GOOD thing, I guess . . .
not quite… but good try…
My father gave up early. Called each of us by all the names, e.g. Susan Mary Joan Patsy.
He traveled constantly on business and really didn’t know us well until his later years. On the weekends all he wanted was peace, quiet and yardwork. Refused to travel for recreation, so we all got sent to camp.
just like applewood doesn’t smell like apples yet has its own smokey smell.
email has made my life so much easier. i still screw up when talking to them on the phone but…
you bet I have some sweeties dad’s apple tree that died. saving the heart for smoking ribs and stuff… hmmm maybe after this week of rain I will just have to fire it up.
oh my stars how gross…. token insisted on going outside to do his business and came running back in with some critter’s entrails trailing from his mouth… i made him drop it out on the deck but ewwwww squeek and shrudder
sometimes that terrier side of him really comes out
my dad used to burn oak and madrone — i love the smell of those two woods burning — reminds me of dad
I yelled over, Hey Montana, you looked pretty funny against the Giants last year, too.”
good guy.
ewwwww.
45 minutes. Might even work in a cooler or two of food from frig and freezer in that time . . . honey has a dear friend in El Dorado Hills . . . guess we could grubstake her place, they’d likely put us up for a week or a month INSIDE . . . if needed.
I begin to weep thinking of the stuff I’d leave behind that I’d lose to 4-6 foot of water in our cave . . . stuff I’ve had since 4 years old, stuff and momento’s from parents, books I got thru my life I’ve held onto . . .
Raining again, was POURING moments ago! Fun!
hehehehe i’ve always wanted to try scuba diving or snorkling. the one time i was in hawaii i was dealing with morning sickness (the oldest) the entire time and wasn’t in the mood to try.
exactly!
strongest gust so far has been 52 on the cape. my plan for tsunami warning is to head up the cape — 800 ft elevation.
my parents are mid-80′s and they both call me by my brother’s name half the time.
Wow-beat the odds, big-time. How is she doing?
funny how that works… speaking of family my sis from Boston came visiting with her son wife and two kids… was great to see her again… made two beer can chickens with Yukon gold taters and salad.
Good call . . . .
surprising us all. she is fading fast and has good days and bad days but everytime the doc says she’s not long for this world she makes a liar outta him. her dementia is getting much worse and she is living in assisted living.
And that will only add to the unemployment pic state wide that exists . . . .
LET IT RAIN!! *G*
just let it rain smart. breaks so the ground can dry out before more rain. those breaks are so important. its the continual rain for days on end that causes trouble.
That includes beer busts of yours of your kids? *G*
I’m in the central valley, the north end . . *G*
Que?

IT AIN’T OVER TILL WE SAY IT’S OVER!

But man the thrill comes rushing back, fast, and I’m 20 something, and I can do anything . . . ya know . .. ;-)
We ain’t OLD!!!!
you’re right Larue. Still good to know there are edifices older, though. *g*
You BETCHA, winky, winky . . . *G*
something we’re all going to face on an intimate level. Doesn’t make it any easier. Personally, when I lose it, just pull the plug. My mom told me the same thing.
Damn, Suz, that’s the whole shebang, the whole enchilada, the whole weather truuuts!
NICE! Special, bookmarked . . . dang, yer good . . .

Easier said than done – unfortunately. I’ve a warm spot in my heart for the Hemlock Society.
Yeah, I’ve READ about ’62 and Crescent City, and others . . . . not you, but . . . . .
{{{{{{sad}}}}}}}
Lost my mums to that, at 79 . . . it’s hard and brutal . . .
Hang tough . . . .
g’nite Suz and nahant.
Yep . . . but so far, we’re talking 7 to 10 days of straight rains . . . .
And then The Pineapple . . . . perhaps rum, Myers Rum, and some Planters Punch . . . fruits, juices.
THAT’S what we’re missing in our survival stash!!! ;-)
My bad . . . sorry Mac . . . Suz . . .
I can think of NO other better consideration . . .
Killer. You nailed it.
I’m all about the early years, but The Ent is doing things on the 4 string, that likely aren’t allowed.
Great, great call . . . *bows*
Is that right? I thought if it was in a signed and witnessed living trust, it holds up, no?
That word ‘edifices’ can be a mixed bag of understanding . . . . ;-)
I’m out. Gonna take advantage of the weather while it’s here.
now that you mention it, I’ve seen the Who 7-8 times and all with Entwhistle. Who could possibly replace him?
You mean good sleeping weather, I presume. g’nite Sunny.
Don’t mean to bum the thread . . . sorry . . . . slipped off into stuff . . .
*smiles*
Better n beer floods . . .
Great linky . . . I hope others avail themselves of this info . . . . good to have! *G*
I could go on about rock drummers, genres and more . .
But The Ent? On Bass? In rock?
I’m convinced . . . . and I’m a BIG Jack Cassidy fan . . . Ent gets the nod.
Ok, it’s fading . . . . . nite all . . . thanks to all for the chats . . . . be warm, dry and well fed and happy with family . .
Nite Larue.
oh a late thank you to the great suzanne for that video~made my morning! Now to sleep…….(oh those night workers)
you are most welcome ruffian — glad you enjoyed it
