Keep up the fearmongering, Republicans.
Opinion polls by two major U.S. television networks show that the majority of the country’s citizens have faith in President Barack Obama’s ability to protect them from ”future acts of terrorism”.
The survey results come despite a wave of strong criticism of the administration’s conduct following the recent failed attempt by a Nigerian national, Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, to blow up a flight from Amsterdam to the U.S. city of Detroit.
A CNN poll released on Jan. 11 shows that 65 percent of the 1,025 respondents said they had either a ”great deal of” or ”moderate” confidence in Obama administration to keep them safe from future attacks. The number is six points higher than a similar CNN poll in August 2006 when President George W. Bush was in the White House.
A better Terra Warrior than W.!
Maybe the GOP should go back to focusing on teh gays.

About Firedoglake
To win the War on Terra, the CIA needs to be reined in.
I thought the point was to keep the war going and make the CIA bigger. Not sure which comes first.
Mornin’, BT, pups
If the court in CA rules that Prop H8 is unconstitutional the Rethugs, and the Mormons, will go into a full gay bashing frenzy.
Agreed but a failed bomb plot the passengers took the guy out I’m proud. the GOP is terrified hidding behind Mom’s skirt and pissed Mom/Obama wore a mini skirt that doesn’t hide them better. We can’t keeo kilos of drugs off planes despite trying for decades just what chance do we have of keeping bombs off planes?
Reminds me of the old joke: the way to get a bomb on a plane is to hide it inside the marijuana bale.
True what do the experts say though I was not impressed by the arguments heck the Lake’s trolls come with better on a good day.
God said so would be their best argument but they seem to know that won’t work so they seem to be trying to everything else they can think of.
Conservative thinking seems to have died.
LOL Classic :)
An oxyxmoron?
Response to question 19 is curious.
19. If you had to choose, would you rather see the man who has been charged in that incident brought to trial in a criminal court run by the civilian judicial system, or would you rather see him tried by a military court run by the U.S. armed forces?
Criminal court 42%
Military court 57%
No opinion 1%
then we can spend the war money on getting rid of our dependence on oil. I suggest the GM Volt. Sure the price of Lithium in the batteries would skyrocket but maybe we could start recycling like Japan does.
Well I suggested Conservative thinking is dead so Zombie Moron?
He was caught red handed so I think people just want him punished ask about paying Afghans to round up people for money sometimes innocents as we have found out to be tortured after we invaded I’m sure the poll numbers would change.
Better still.
Wait what am I thinking Rush is literally an OxyMoron:)
If the war on terriers is more about playing Stratego then it seems likely that Xe and the CIA are critical. The number of
mercscontractors soared in Afghanistan as we create justifications for being in that part of the world. Once the Afghans are all obese from fast foods the world will be safe once more for corporations to do business. Protecting our way of living. The GOP are just trying to bend the justification for aggression curve and they have lobbyist dollars to show for it. Polls are just ways to refine the message not a reason to quit a high pay job.
I could only scan Teddy’s live blog yesterday so I’m not up on what transpired. Don’t know how he did it. Amazing job.
I would imagine the Prop H8 people will throw everything but god into their arguments. My gut tells me Prop H8 is gonna go down but then my gut also told me Kerry would beat Shrub in 04.
If you listened to Ed Shultz the other night he asked the question about
the possibility of rogue and covert elements of the CIA that are feeding
Dick Cheney info. and possibly still doing his bidding.
I thought that was ballsy of Shultz, and you could see his demeanor change
when he asked it.
Now if we can just figure out what Sarah is on I mean she was a newsperson so I assume she can read a teleprompter unlike our last President who did seem learning disabled and sometimes over medicated. But Sarah rambles and jumps from thoughts without connecting them like she were high?
According to Teddy, SCOTUS is gonna have to jump thru some hoops to overturn Walker’s decision. That’s my version of what Teddy actually typed, and involves a heavy layering of my cynicism and my projection.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Irak: 4,373
US KIA Afghanistan: 956
Iraki and Afghan casualties: estimates vary to over 1.5M
US MBS 2010: 1.488
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
I think prop H8 should go down but yes I felt the same about Kerry too:(
SCOTUS usually refrains from taking on most state constitutional issues iirc.
Namaste dude!
But this is not your father’s SCOTUS. 6 R.C. members, can’t have gay marriage.
I wish someone would change the teleprompter to read:I am a dumbass;Im sure she would read it with no hesitation,Kinda like the Anchorman movie

Not a one of the Talking Head Media Experts seems to have read Machiavelli in 8 years. Nor anyone in the WH in either administration.
I’m guessing they need to hire more Public School kids we are the Liberal Elite after all.
That’s funny cause she’s real dumb.
Ok we need an electrical or computer genius to figure a way to jam or hack the signal probably an outdoor speech so we can get line of sight if we jam the signal and of course Cameras and or Press.
However the Katie Couric interview, Sarah’s resignation as Governor speech ( I’m still not sure what she said that day) can even I am a dumbass; top those famous bits of tv?
The question is not whether the Obama administration is better at thwarting attacks to the US hatched by people bent on killing Americans, the more relevant question is whether that administration is doing anything to ameliorate the hatred that motivates those attacks from being hatched in the first place. And the answer to that question is no.
Is anything being done to stem the onslaught by Israeli Jews against the Palestinian population, or the military invasion of the US into Muslim lands, or the US support of brutal Arab regimes? The answer to all those questions is NO.
There simply is nothing that distinguishes this administration from the prior one as to changing the US policies that antagonize Muslims and lead them to hate and hatch plans to attack and kill Americans when the opportunity arises.
Bush with the ipod in that Presidential debate sewn into the back of his suit we thought was giving him answers I expect Sarah to get one of those too soon but will the volume be louder that the voices in her head?
For the full impact of Machiavelli one has to read Discourses. The Prince was his resume for a job with the local pooh bah, sorta like a Reader’s Digest version of Discourses.
Sarah reads much better as blank verse. Go here and start the search on p 148.
Agreed I am not hopeful does Obama even have a peace plan?
Well said.
You heard it in his Nobel speech. War IS peace.
Here’s Obama’s peace plan
Healthcare first paragraph, taxes second, trade the third, little or no connection between ideas much less explanation how the ideas are related she is the Newt GOPAC version of the Nietzschean SuperWoman with her talking points.
(Sarah went to Newt’s GOPAC school for GOP political candidates where among other things she was taught to handle the media).
I really want to see just what the Genius Newt teaches in that school of his. His most famous student reflects like a broken funhouse mirror in a room full of colored disco lights on her teacher.
Orwell is his speech writer? I didn’t know Rahm knew how to use a Ouija board.
I feel safer already…
You make me laugh.
Blankfein’s up on cspan2.
Always meant to read it my copy is packed away though at my sisters place though.
Then my Lady I’ve done my job:)
Consider it your good deed for the day.
Dimon’s up on cspan2.
Dimon sez we should be brutally honest. Strange was to start a testimony which will be anything but. Another speech written by Orwell.
Angelides appears to be the last best hope we have to get some accountability. Let’s hope he kicks asses, and takes names…
So far, I’m hearing bullshit lipservice from the CEO’s.
If he had any integrity he would have declined the Peace Prize. He thinks he’s a “Star.”
This is kabuki. I’m addicted, even though I know that. Almost anything else I could do, like picking my nose, would be more productive than watching it.
Since Leave No Child Able To Understand Non-Multiple Choice Tests became the rule, I’m guessing that simply upping the public school kid count might not be very effective unless it targets the older population.
Yep.
new post up top…
This is kabuki. I’m addicted, even though I know that.
I hear ya..
Dimon’s getting arm strain by patting himself on the back.
Bwahahahaha!
The first question should be:How can any business hand out more in bonuses than they reported in profits???
Hard to see how he could have declined. Either he insults the committee, disappoints the public that wants the Nobel to be important or he convinces the everyone he is unworthy. The fault here lies with the people that thought they could turn him to their own using a couple hundred grand and a plaque.
First rule of acquisition: make sure you get your cut first.
yes!
can you imagine what the world would look like today if Kerry had won? History is a bunch of what ifs…
sometimes – right? We all hate war, but you gotta break a few eggs…
right?
These CEOs are all blaming the collapse on the lack of oversight on the amount of leverage they could use.
This is like the SEINFELD episode with the drycleaner who wore their customers clothes,Where Jerry says:”You need a drycleaners code that says never wear your customers garments”
Another example would be;The Bible telling us”Thou shall not kill”
There are some things you feel in your heart are criminal;Ya dont need to be told.
Thanks for highlighting this excellent interview.
It’s remarkable what two well-informed, thoughtful people can cover in very few minutes, eh?
Is this necessary or relevant?
Yesterday is was a racial slur about Sotomayor…
Dude, clean it up.
It may be fair to assert that Ms. Palin responds the way she does because she is somewhat incapable of linear thinking. That’s just the way she is, but a non-demagogic political dialogue requires linear thinking, the ability to identify a leap in logic, and a grasp of the essential facts of an issue.
Sarah Palin is not someone even remotely qualified to be POTUS.
