Smokey Robinson and The Miracles — You Really Got A Hold On Me.
What’s on your mind?
maybe the best opening line in a pop song.
rats, missed it by that much…
hey mac — how ya doing?
Hey I’m popping in to offer my latest political analysis:
Sarah Palin = Anita Bryant
hey ct — how’s paradise tonight (go ahead — i wanna hear about sunshine instead of the rain here)
hey dosido — both play the god card and demean others they don’t like… works for me
Heh, You’re fraternizing with my thread nemesis…! ;-)
Another great link Suz, to another oldie but goodie.
Did I ever mention you always have the best links??
Never as well as your own self, Suzanne.
hey ofguy — you have but don’t let that stop ya (laughing)
how ya doing tonight?
Much needed rain is falling here… But, at least it’s falling in 70′s temps…! ;-)
IMO, you owe Anita Bryant an apoligy.
my joints would disagree with that dood (laughing)
You betcha, Tuttle, and I hope you get a chance at Derrick’s gig. He was good and you would be also.
just down dipped down to 49… been raining in the 50′s here
aint the same
I send a few good ones if you want.
How am I doing tonight?
Mmmm, you want the socially responsible answer or the truth?
Instead, I’ll ask, How are you doing tonight?? (And I want THE TRUTH)
rut roh…. i hear that’ll get ya into trouble dood
i’ve been better
i’ve been worse
Good call, but coming from the Anita Orange Sponsor days, Anita’s MUCH quicker on her feet in a PR situation.
Just as much a tool, just slicker. But I was young and naive and angry.
hey openhope — how ya doing tonight?
Always a good answer.
I think I’ll copy that.
hey ppd — young at heart is great…. the road to nowhere is on utube but embedding disabled :(
Love, loved this song. Summer dances in PA.
i stole it from my mom so feel free
hey ce — tis a classic belt buckle polisher — takes me right back to high school dances
True, much quicker brain at work. that’s the difference between OJ and kristol myth.
Hey, Suzanne. Hanging in, hanging on. Waiting for January to fucking be over !!
watching video of the devastation in haiti on my local news…. how horrible….
The latest It Girl.
Nice pick, Suz.
hey suz how are ya doing?? evening Pups..
hey margot — how’s ohio tonight?
Why thank you MM…! I appreciate that…! ;-)
hey emerson — how’s the east bay tonight?
Suz, thank you for this sweet song.
hey nahant — how ya doing tonight dood?
Still thinking young, are you? I’m talking catalog parts.
We’re watching Young at Heart
Ohio is fine, lotta nice snowy areas and clear roads, warming up a bit. Your area getting warmer?
laughing — ya caught me
How the HELL do you keep all those geographical locations with the right poster?
Damn, hurts my head watching you answer. Sometimes I forget where I’M POSTING from.
mac — i already have one metal knee yanno
former highly trained professional observer yanno
now … not so good as i used to be
nahant, ya gonna make Teddy some of your notorious chili…? ;-0
60 WTF and raining… must be from the Tropics… wood burner is almost too much..
She’d make a great politician, don’t you think?
It is a good ‘un isn’t it?
Bitter sweet though. The memories both make me feel happy and sad all at the same time.
We had dances at the local Sons of IT-Americans Hall — can this be true? I haven’t thought about this for 40 years. I may have the title of this very wrong, but remember how wonderful the dances were in the early sixties.
hell no too many skeletons in my background
and i don’t wanna
like in JAMS??
I think she’d most certainly be better than the 535 assholes we currently have in the two houses of Congress. And I KNOW she’d most certainly be better than that lying, mother fucking, asshole at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Sorry for the language. Guess you can tell I’m just a wee bit perturbed at our elected assholes officials.
Vision does help too, Bifocals don’t quite cut it…! ;-)
All I know is school sock hops…loved them!
we say fuck a lot down here on the dark side of the lake… no apology needed
Every now and then I drop hints about handles (if I know them.) Hi nahant-long time.
yeah, there is that… fuck
I hear you, I wouldn’t want to either. But preachers and politicians both need this kind of skill at remembering who’s from where, etc.
Evening and g’nite suz and pups.
Off to nod…..
i worked and lived in the same city — i used to wonder when standing in line at the grocery store if the person who looked familiar in the next line over was from my work life or my personal life — a bad guy or a dad from my daughter’s class at school… became second nature to try to keep track of folks
hope it doesn’t creep anyone out when i do that…
Not even readin comments yet, just watched the vid . . . . .
Suz, Smokey, this tune? *G*
Along with Tracks Of My Tears, Oooh Oooh Baby, and a thousand others, they were the angst strewn soundtracks of my pre and early teen years that lingered into my early 20′s and up until today.
Some of the FINEST music of our lives, that crossed decades . .
“I did you wrong my heart went out to play
But in the game I lost you
What a price to pay, hey I’m crying”
So, is this how Peace and Reconciliation begins? Would be a good thing.
I had to call eCAHNomics out on her slams to homeschoolers. I’m not real good at that stuff.I’m better at just going away. But if we’re going to “get it together” we need to have the arguments and respect each other’s person. IMHO.
no, I didn’t, but hope it’s more functional than my wooden head.
hey sunny and g’nite sunny
Suz – that is a great video.
*handing larue a tissue*
how’s sac tonight dood?
thanks newton — i loved how they had screws as the part of the set — sorta subliminal and edgy for the times i think
THERE’S a thread topic . . . covers all musics, all genres.
#68 was addressed to MM and CT.
i set off metal detectors now… another reason not to fly
Helloooo from Las Vegas! I managed to escape the crowd and am hiding in my hotel room!
Anita O Bryant would EAT Sarah Palin for lunch and I don’t mean in a familial way, I mean skinned, boiled, broiled, sauced and consumed to nothingness . . .
She’d wast Palin in a heartbeat.
Sarah Palin can’t CARRY Anita O’Bryant’s wardrobe.
We can always agree to disagree…! *g*
hey kelly — so how *is* lost wages tonight?
That’s enuff to ruin them, completely, if it’s near by . . . .
Sad, I’ve not seen images yet . . .
What are you doing there? DO TELL!
Sam Cooke was so bitchin it still hurts losing him and listening to him.
That’s one of his best . . . *bows*
hospital collapsed as did the presidental palace — prez and wife ok.
thousands of buildings damaged or destroyed… not good at all
local pbs station had a sam cooke special on last nite…. there are so few utubes of him….
Is it just me or are those guy’s really short?
Evening going to Huntington Beach tommorow for the coastal commission hearing. Taking a lawyer, 25 foot swells on some West facing beaches.
Wish us luck in a fair decision, WE want a full hearing (denovo) got unadressed issues.
jason has a sem diary up with about the quake and mason in the comments has updated with various links….
hey busted — i think this was stretched to fit wide screen when it was uploaded
how ya doing dood?
and of course there’s
hey bb — sweet — can’t wait to hear how it went dood
Schedule is wildly bizzy. Tomorrow runs from 7:00 am to 10:30 pm !
But they did a cool thing today. They had Gene Kranz (The Flight Director for Apollo 13 give his “Mission Control” talk.
It was very interesting hearing the firsthand account of a piece of history. He’s 77 but quite vigorous, very good form.
*big sigh* so sweet
Lemme look . . . .
Rained off and on, still in the higher 40′s lower 50′s . . .
Not cold, not wet enough, not enough snow.
But it’s SURE as HAYALL beats 110F in the summer!!!! *G*
Heh, the usual.
I also threw one up at The Seminal, NSFW warning included. I think I broke one off in the asses of Sarah’s base. Of course you all are always invited to peruse the Ornery Bastard at your leisure.
Yes !! Because we’re all in this together. It would be good to treat each other with care and some form of manners. Which isn’t the same thing as polite silence when confronting a BS attitude, because we are all capable of sliding into BS. That’s what separates humans from other life forms, I think. *g*
Hey CE! It’s my company’s 2010 planning/kickoff meeting. Me and 300 other idiots runnning amok. At least I don’t gamble though!
Met my new boss last night, and she seems to be the real article. I liked her instantly. But I’m going to have to travel from 50-75% of the time now. (frownie face!)
Are you kidding? It’s wonderful.
What goes on in Vegas stays in Vegas, I don’ need to know no more . . . .
Sorry for your travelin blues, hoss . . . home IS where the heart is . . .
Best to yas . . . ya phuckin mook. /s
So, How is Suzanne and Larue and the rest of the gang?
Must be yer screen . . . .:p
i’ve worried about that. it just comes naturally to me now and i have thought that maybe it creeps people out in a cyberstalker kinda way…
congrats on the 100 larue
and I now attract woodpeckers… not just flies.
I hate the constant travel — I don’t do it but my son does.
hahahaha how’s the big apple tonight (did i remember that correctly)
My PBS had one on Marvin Gaye last nite and had Smokey talking about Marvin at various times…!
oooo i’ll have to keep an eye out for that one. iirc smokey was in the sam cooke show
Goodnight all — see you this weekend.
Drive by – I’m traveling and have not been able to keep up with any of the prop 8 trial. How are things going.
Temps, Smokey, 4 Tops, Impressions (god I loved Curtis Mayfield), and a few hundred others who were one hit wonders . . . . soul time, REAL soul . . . early to mid 60′s.
The soundtracks of our lives then . . . and now . . . right up there with all the rock.
I can STILL cut the rug with half the dances then . . . *G*
Lum de lum de lum I. *G*
hey tbsa — plaintiffs are still presenting their case. second day of testimony went well. teddy’s live blogging it and reading it is like being in the courtroom.
Yer killin me, but I’m laffin . .. *G*
you know you did and it’s co-old here
You know, I may still have that 45 of Smokey and The Miracles – Tears Of A Clown.
YOU are . . . go to sleep . . . you’ll need it at yer age being on the road this much . . .
Hi Suz – thanks! Will have to catch up with that tomorrow when I have time to read. I knew the FDL coverage would be second to none. I heard the supreme clowns overturned the decision of judge walker to air the proceedings. What a shock. NOT.
You frozen still?
busted’s seminal diary link
LaRue, my concern is the next Sarah, younger, firmer, less baggage. You know there’s some young “Sarah” in a village out there being groomed to take the second wave. Sarah’s getting past her sell-by.
Night night CE!
Good Lard, I’m just catching up with blogworld aside from Teddy’s Prop 8 coverage and I see the Gruber shit is just broiling!
hey cujo — how’s seattle tonight?
Clicking on the ‘reply’ does work…! ;-)
Treat one another as one would expect to be treated…! Fascinating concept…! Yer right tho, FDL does a great job in discarding the chaff and the detritus…! ;-)
anytime you want to throw that post up, I’ll look for it.
another ruling expected wed from the supremes re video….
It was never my intention, had I been nominated, I would have not run, had I been elected I would have not served.
But the ‘phuckin mook’ thang was pretty bitchen, I thought . . .
sometimes ya have to let the page fully load in order for the reply thingie to work
Hey, doesn’t creep me out. Except the part where you don’t know if the people are the bad guys. Cause, I like the fantasy that cops know the bad guys. Just saying. *g*
Rainy and sorta warm. I can actually walk around in it without getting cold. That’s unusual for this time of year.
Naw, all thawed out for now, still waiting on that old music you keep threatening me with.
Don’t make me break out the clams again.
They’re like wars, there’s always another one coming along.
*laughing* twas a matter of being in mommy mode and not cop mode…. twas the down side to living and working in the same city… having to always be on guard and remembering faces and how i knew the faces…
The girl groups were hot
oh lard not the clams….
Thank you. It’s a rant but it has facts, something they can’t handle.
I recall all the music, the bands, the singers, the lyrics, the little hooks.
Then, ya think about what Barry Gordy DID in that little room, all them folks and players and sangers stacked up on one another, all the spill over from the mics, and his arranging . . .
Magic. Pure magic.
Like Spector and the wall of sound . . . magic.
Incredible. N that’s why we loved it when were were kids, and why we love it now.
Obama used Sam Cooke “A change is Coming” in his campaign last spring. Uses the echo chamber to make it melancholy….”I went to my brother and said brother help me please and he ended up knocking me back down on my knees.” Pretty prohetic!
I’m glad the background has gone back to matching the text boxes – that dark color was making it hard to read, and claustrophobic as well.
Dayam, Busted…! I learned a new one today… “Fux You”
Bwhahaha…! I always learn a new one from ya…! ;-)
smooth…. iirc they opened for the beatles at candlestick
My sisters’ favorite song. They played it constantly. :-)
Nah, too much work for me, I’d rather smile dreamily and let my fond and few memories do their thing with me.
twas the banner ad up top… was only run for 24 hours
posts are hard work — the book salon one wiped me out — i was so fried by the time lln posted *eyes rolling* i was in bed before 1am — a very rare event
A Regency law school valedictorian drafted and groomed by Heritage Foundation, no doubt.
It was rather annoying…!
Thanks man. How y’all been? I am usually long asleep this time of night, gonna pay tomorrow.
Oh, CTuttle, clicking on the reply only works if you have high speed. It would take me 15 minutes to click reply on dial-up. FDL is getting less user friendly for dial-up as the mothership grows. Progress always comes at a cost. Internet cost is rural people without access to high speed. We got a Mac but it’s not helping.
My problem is I forget to signal who my comment is for because I think it’s going to boot up all the way for me to click Response, but it never does, and I hit submit in frustration.
Sorry. I have to learn how to tailor responses.
There’s nothing like a little cunning linguini . .
Crap, it’s sittin there, next to me, waiting to post and ship.
Been two months now, I guess . . . blame the holidazed?
Lesigh, maybe tomorrow?
You are correct, again. Loved Ronnie Specter.
bygones (as that guy on ally mcbeal used to say– laughing) — is over now
*Gasp* Monica Goodling arising Phoenix-like…? ;-)
the banner ad up top being gone should help ya load faster now openhope
suz you know you can do that stuff.. child’s play after what you have done…
One Of MY Favs
They were all awesome. Walls Of Sound, Spector, Barry Gordy’s Place . . .
So many . . . . I recall Santa Cruz, CA in ’62 n ’63 and a transistor . . . am radio . . . 3rd and 4th grades.
Girl groups and girl leads owned the airwaves . . . . *G* When the Beach Boys weren’t on . . . lol
He’s got it ALL wrong, as I TRIED to ‘splain to the bachelor . . . . . ;-)
dood that post took me a solid week of reading, researching and writing to write — and then there is that whole me writing about a published author’s writing that was totally forking up my head….
Sporadic wifi here, I fully empathize…! However, it is better than dial-up…! ;-)
One of mine liked musical soundtracks. I probably have every Rogers and Hammerstein song memorized.
Monica Badseedling, she’ll do.
Dude, everyone bunks this shit, but I love the way YOU do it . . . well done, dammit.
You da hoss, hoss . . .
Hey, if John Yoo can be a law professor, why not?
Paul Revere and the Raiders anyone?
i loved soundtracks to movies… and plays… i had a very well rounded musical education between my mom (pop and standards) and my dad (country) and my peers (rock and roll).
laughing — i knew that would be kicks dood
that’s one of my favorites…words, harmony, they’re perfect.
What can I say, it’s bedtime.
Excellent! Forgot about the Crystals.
suz…. you CAN do it!! you be quick and by the way you did great on the book salon… right pups??
a week is quick???
Heh, one I had forgotten.
Love the side burns.
Any time my parents went to a Broadway musical, they’d bring the album home. My dad played “My Fair Lady” for 6 months.
YUP!!! you can handle it Suz!!
we used to shop at thrift stores all the time — i could pick up a 45 for a nickle and an soundtrack album for usually 50 cents or less. i would sit and go through the records while mom was looking for clothes for us kids etc.
One of my favorites too. Don’t hear it too much, so it sounds even better. *g*
Can’t argue with that one . . . . anti drug message!!!
Killin me . . . . . lol
dood i’m still recuperating from that one — plus hosting late late night that same nite. was a long ass day on the pooter.
I bow to your memories!
I haven’t heard that in decades!
heard it on my local ‘easy listening’ station recently…
Forgot I had mutton chops in 72, until now.
how do ya make that little violin on the computer? ya know the one that goes squeek squeek as suz runs the bow back and forth….
Goin all folkie are yas?
Don’t GET me lookin for old Jeff Airplane cuts . . . or Dylan, or Weavers, or anyone else . . ;-)
I had a big-time crush on girl seeker. I think it was the bangs.
Don’t feel bad, somewhere I have a very large picture of myself with long hair and mutton chops too, back when I had hair.
Good to see you.
G’thud Y’all, see ya on the next big job and Aloha.
setting glare to disrupt
g’thud babe — smooches
Perfect timing on my part, thanks for the diversion Nahant!
i think of them as a girl group but they aren’t…
i won’t mention doc either
Maybe that was the “New Seekers” Or was that the same group?
congrats on the 200 emerson
Dead Nahant Walkin . . . . at least partially browned, anyhoots . . .
Foolish man . . .
Foolish Little Girl
The soundtracks of our lives . . . cont.
the seekers vs new seekers per wiki the later born outta the first
Oh, you CAN mention Doc, Merle, and Norman Blake . . .
Anytime, gal . . . *G*
But goin all folkie might take days . . . ;-)
we got tonight
Not sure why they go with the Spanish sound for a couple of bars.
Yay! My first ever.
wasn’t there a lotta other music coming in around that time… that french singing nun, herb alpert and the tijuana brass.. maybe trying to capture some of that?
I’m wounded!!! Teh Glare! The LQQK! I’m dyin! Aggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!
I give. I hate that, I REALLY hate that music . . . I’m wounded . . . you win.
You always do . . . ;-)
*blowing smoke off fingers*
your chain is so easy to yank dood
“…and there’s not a single thing that you can do.” Sassy!
disrupt??? OMG now what will I do?….
Oh sure, suck up to me after that hip hop, wango tango, be bop till ya drop Euro Hindustani tangential pop 40 mess of a basement production . . . . and use BOB, too . . . the other Bob, that is . . .
I’d rather picnic on Greasy Lake . . . ;-)
lmao — dood that is so forking funny
tis a (hahahaha) fine rant dood (btw token now thinks i’m nuts – woke him up laughing)
The Orlons had attitude. Loved “South St.” too. Good one, Margot!
Hey, just cuz it’s there, you gotta hit it?
My heart bleeds . . . .
God I HATE that music . . . lolololol
I opened the door, you drove the tractor/trailer thru it . .
nahant — when does lost start again — this month?
Wow, I know that song and group!
Goin WAYYYY back . . . good, too!
could be. The Dominiqua, niqua , niqua phase.
See, I always wanted to be a backup singer. Love harmony. So I loved the doowop and girl groups…sigh
i would sing either depending on my mood and the song… and i loved the harmonies of the r&b artists… so forking smooth and seamless
Yeah, yeah, that was a good one . . .
More Girl Power
Not the best version but, likely one of my all time fav songs and the artist in my transistor radio in the 60′s who melted me . .
Damn… Pumpkin Time already..!!!
Not too late. I went to this church cuz I thought it would be fun to sing in the Christmas song program. Really fun.
hello stranger is a classic swoon song dood… big grin from the memories of that one
So, I’m so angry and so sorrowful at our Obama’s new cuts to military families under the Hope and Change Crap.
I have time to volunteer to help military families in a Grandmother Role. I’m in a void of energy. I think they call that Empty Nest Syndrome. It’s frigging weird. Never thought I’d experience a void of energy in my life. Of course, I never thought I’d ever be without serious Estrogen. Yeah, Newly Aged.
I would love to be a part time, yet always constant source of support for a military wife/family. Like a Big Brother/Sister thing. Only Big Grandma. I’m not actually a grandmother but I’m willing to whore for the Cause!!!
Also, we need Meals On Wheels for military families on a smaller scale. They need a pressure release.
Whoa, somebody shot and killed while driving on 80 west in Rodeo. Thats about 2 miles from here. Pretty rare.
You and Margot got that goin . . . . the harmonies and backups are what drove me to the bluegrass and all grass variety and now I get to play, sing some lead, sing backup and harmony and I’m happier than a clam in the REAL recipe Ornery Basterd had to think about once I schooled his cooking self . . . *G*
Ok, fine, it’s the harmony and backups that slay me to this day . . . . I luvz that thang, motown to grassy.
the wrongs being done to our military families makes me so forking mad. they are the only ones paying any price for these horrible wars
Still melts me . . . as do all her three hits . . .
hey sunny — how ya doing tonight?
Ok, time to go sand man . . . honey has me DOIN thangs tomorrow, dang it . . . .
Best hugs to Suz, and all LLN Puppers near and far . . .
Always fun in here . . *G*
Be well ya folks . . . warm and dry, too . . . .
Zzzzzzzz . . . .
power naps, Sunny?
g’nite larue and honey
great suz – not missing the grey screen.
i don’t know why that ad slowed things down so much — the similar one we had up last week didn’t do that…
Time for me to bail, ladies. G’nite.
are ya just getting up when ya get here sunny?
It would be good to see FDL do a thermometer for our brave War Resisters. No one even knows they’re out there, just a few of us. Probably not FDL’s agenda/curriculum in these heady Congress Times.
Jeez, a group of true leaders like FDL grow to power and I want them to save the whole fucking planet.
Support our military – help their families.
that is where the diaries come into play openhope…. writing a diary will help raise the awareness of what is going on — and diaries do hit the fdl front page — not every one but diaries do also get promoted to the seminal front page. each is an opportunity to raise awareness of the issues we care about.
Sweet dreams, all. Time to battle with sleep.!!. Man, insomnia sucks. Just saying…poor me..poor lots of people.
I always thought an interesting poll of the American public would be their sleep patterns in times of national angst. I’m thinking a huge swath of the country is awake and fretting at around the same time every night.
That said, goodnight.
sorta huffpoesque ;
g’nite openhope — sweet dreams
Suzanne, I just read your suggestion and I’ll take it to heart. I’m not comfortable posting like that but I know an awesome young Iraq Vets Against The War veteran who is.
would love to read what he has to say — as would others here i’m sure. hope your insomnia eases….
This morning, yes. Not usually. I like the dead of night so long as I can sleep til the crack of noon.
’bout time for me to head out.
g’nite all and thank you for all the music and conversations tonight.
ha! crack of noon is my fav time to get up
That’s an amazing insight. Wow.
One possibility is in Missouri now. It’s always hard to know the person from a distance, so we’ll have to wait and see.
