About Firedoglake
Morning all and thanks Elliott,
What in the h… makes ABC think that the war criminal’s
daughter has anything to add to a civilized discussion.
Yeah, but at least CNN is fair and balanced this morning. They have a Republican and an Democrat in Jerusalem. Can’t miss that one!
Good morning Elliott & everyone. Bottomed out at 3 overnight, up to a balmy 5. Brrrr is right.
Doesn’t the I stand for independent (though it could also stand for idiot or imbecile)
Must be cold enough to freeze typing fingers this morning.
I think it stands for “Insurance”.
Yeah, where is everyone?
Looks like another beautiful day here in Flint. We had a gorgeous sunny day yesterday, I went x-country skiing.
It was beautiful here too. I’m heading up into high country today.
X-country skiing will warm you up. Not enough snow here for that. Got 3 inches on Friday, but it was fluffy, settled down, on top of almost no snow, so grass blades sticking thru.
Good morning, pups, from arctic (23°) Savannah. It’s Dowd, Friedman, Kristof and Rich today. MoDo has extruded a POS titled “Captain Obvious Learns the Limits of Cool” in which she opines that President Obama is no doubt on top of the Christmas terror crisis in terms of studying it top to bottom. But his inner certainly creates an outer disconnect. MoDo is a bitch with daddy issues and should unknot her panties. The Moustache of Wisdom asks “Who’s Sleeping Now?” and says at the end of the first decade, the most important thing to happen was not the Great Recession, but China’s Green Leap Forward. Mr. Kristof discusses “Religion and Women” and says it is time for religious leaders to stop sanctifying existing social structures that oppress women and push for justice. No shit. It’ll happen when pigs fly. Mr. Rich, in “The Other Plot to Wreck America,” says the financial crash precipitated by the failure of Lehman Brothers was the banking industry’s 9/11. Without reform, another massive attack on our economic security is guaranteed.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got chocolate croissants because I thought we needed a treat given the way the beginning of 2010 has been going. Thanks, Congress, for increasing my taxes. Way to go! [snarl] I need a second cup of tea.
We have about 6″ of snow here. I hope it lasts a while. Here in Michigan what often happens after it snows is it rains and freezes, and everything is covered with ice. :-(
I have another sake that I just discovered. Will send it to you when I get around to it.
The snow on the pines sure is purtee. A winter wonderland. Hope everyone got a chance to see Moyers on Friday night. David Corn and Kevin Drum on the narrowing window of opportunity to make meaningful reform to prevent another economic collapse. For those that missed it. Would appear to dovetail nicely with Frank Rich’s column in the NYT.

I know that scenario. My driveway has a very minor upward slant. Years ago, in March, there was a freezing rain on top of plowed driveway. Not only could I not drive up the driveway, I also could not walk up it, that’s how slippery it was. Had to crab walk up on all 4s.
I agree, why in the hell do we have to listen to the same lying spin from the same characters every Sunday? The Corporate News Network is the new FAKE NEWS CHANNEL!!!!!
Poor Robert Reich
A worthwhile documentary on corporations that you will not be broadcast on the mainstream media in the U.S.. Of course it’s a Canadian production.
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/1371416
How can any news organization expect its viewers to think its credible when they have HATEMONGERS like LIZARDBITCH CHENEY spewing their RACIST BULLSHIT on national media???
There’s a panel of Gitmo detainee lawyers on cspan2. That, and what you type, makes me soooo ashamed to be a citizen of the U.S.
My wonderful spouse has been “getting into” sake this last few months so we have been doing a lot of taste testing. Lots of new and delicious tastes. I had no idea, until looking into it, that there were so many different sakes. Our new and incredible Japanese restaurant has been indulging us and the owners produce a new and different sake for us just about every time we go there (once or twice a week!). It is the only place that we go out to eat as it is the only kind of food we enjoy that is within our meager budget and that we cannot prepare better at home.
The temp here this morning is a brisk 2°f but I think I would rather strip naked and go for a walk than listen to the nattering nabobs.
Sake is just not my thing, though I am a talented drinker in general. I brought a couple of bottles back from Japan in 1994 and they are still in my liquor cabinet. I sent one to Marion, who likes it and informed me that it wasn’t straight sake, but rather some rice concoction with a bigger punch. Then I discovered another.
It’s nice that your local Japanese restaurant is schooling you. Maybe if someone had done that with me, I’d appreciate it.
sticking my head out from the blankies long enough to say Good Morning Elliot and Firedogs – praying all are warm and safe
Does John McCain still like Joe after all the healthcare debate has shown that Joe is now more powerful than John McCain, Harry Reid and Obama.
Joe not John is the Republican opposition Sarah is the Future of the GOP, Rush is on the radio running things but if you want laws made Joe not John is the go to guy that even Obama bows too.
I wonder if John is jealous of Joe? I wonder if John has even figured out yet that Joe is the Man!
/s
Snark tag please don’t throw things!
What I missed that what did they say? No tv here.
No shit! Every week it’s the same bunch of freaks. Sure glad I don’t have a TV. And the cable companies expect us to pay for that punishment. All the good stuff gets archived online. Entertainment on Netflix. But inertia (?) keeps everyone staring at the idiot box being force-fed lies. I’m encouraged lately that the bad guys, no not al Quaeda, seem to be getting surrounded by Spitzer, Rich,et al; but even Rich ended his column in pessimism. Hopefully, in the next weeks the noose wil tighten on the bastards, and they will be inescapably trapped. Then I’d like to see some cruel and unusual punishment.
Where do you live that gots a cheap sushi joint? The price is worth it though:)
The noose is tightening, Geithner seems headed for a fall. Washington might have advanced word on another financial collapse. banks, insurance companies hedge funds, Credit default swaps, the media might want a bailot take your pick.
The thing is I think Geithner night be being set up as the fall guy.
Im starting to realise that Obama is not the Leader we have yearned for.I think that he is being controlled by those same factions that stole the White House in 2000.People need to know that the shadow govt. controls all in the shadows, and from 2001 to 2009 we had the leader of that shadow govt.(CHENEY),at the helm.OK NOW I CAN TAKE OFF MY TIN HAT
The lack of action on the financial industry is criminal to the nth degree. Even after Enron they pretended to do reform. Not even a pretence now.
No reform, noone hauled off to jail, the people that caused the collapse still in their jobs, old criminals recycled, bailouts continue for corporations,Cheney and company still walking free,Rethuglicants still have control of Congress,Fake News still in operation, still lying about economic conditions and numbers.HAPPY 2010 ALL!!!
How would we do a talk show pick topics, guests, etc? We could fact check guests statements in real time and have a board to select the best fact checking and have the host ask the guest rebuttal questions based on our research.
We could out accurate the media and use the hook of participatory interactive media to boost ratings never mind the shock value of seeing the media asking guests real questions and contradicting guests.
Plus we sell the show as something Darth, George Will, Cokie and Obama are afraid to go on. We can make a point of always asking the hard questions we can have people online submit questions topics etc and have people vote on them.
And these interests represent a huge percentage of our economy. If we ever get this mess sorted out, the next will be wireless communications. Microwave radiation (danger: tin hat area) is fragging our DNA; nobody wants to talk about that. Meanwhile 4 billion humans are holding those devices up to their heads every day. Who needs a gene pool anyway.
are they SERIOUS?
yup, that liberal media’s gonna get you every time
Before the Presidential election of 2004 we saw some being indicted and hauled off to jail,(ex. Enron exec.),but do you notice now that AG. Cuomo seems to settle these latest cases with cash settlements of pennies on the dollar compared with the BILLIONS they stole.Plus they stay out of jail, and are allowed to continue their operations.WTF!
what IS obama’s problem with doing his frigging job?
You might like this diary.
http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/21679
sounds interesting, will watch when I get a chance
They got to him.
Wow, sounds like The Rachel Maddow Show. And she does it with such grace. Only problem: it’s on MSNBC. Preaching to the choir. People I know just watch Fox all day, and talk about what a smart guy Glenn
Beck is.
that’s a good read, thanx for re-posting it, shame comments are off
I agree with you. It is so obvious. When candidate obama was running for prez., I was impressed with his authenticity. His face seemed to show his feelings. When his grandmother died, his face was sad for several days. When he had to throw Rev. Wright under the bus, same thing.
But most of the time Obama seemed to be a genuinely happy man. Now pres. obama’s face looks tired and strained. I still like that about him. No smily faces like bush when the country was going to hell in a hand basket.
Obama’s choices for his administration was a clear signal. clinton appts. …who gave us NAFTA, 3 strikes and you are out, welfare reform and the repeal of Glass-Stegall. An effective repub. if there ever was one.
NH. My spouse and I can have a nice dinner with appetizer and sake for about $60 -$70 including tip. A relatively cheap indulgence around here.
Do you know when WE had to start protecting ourselves from our govt.?
Our environment is filthy. Our food supplies are the same.Fertilized with human waste sludge. The latest is ammonia in beef. Our water contains all sorts of pharmaceuticals and industrial waste. There are no jobs. If you are lucky enough to get something, it is like working in a third world country .
At least Hitler advocated physical fitness. As he went about killing his political enemies…he wasn’t killing his people at the same time.
It’s congress too. Sen from the credit card state will take over from sen from hedge fund state as guardian of financial oversight. And as kt2kelly points out, the AG from financial state lets them get away almost scott free. It permeates the whole system.
I’m pretty sure obama could embarass anyone he wants into doing their jobs
he’s on board, thus bernanke re-hired
ROFLMAO. That’s soooo unO.
*stretch*
Good Morning, everybody (sipping hot chocolate and munching on a chocolate croissant)
Fox is all over Harry Reid’s “Negro dialect” comment.
yes it is
that is my point though
yeah, we may get rid of Geithner and end up with worse! hard to believe there is worse but…
Must be the most important thing that happened in the last decade. /s
Ok new show from the Left we fact check Glen Beck, O’Reily within an hour of his broadcast we argue against their points, fact check his lies, and point out everytime they appeal to hate.
Yes it sounds like what KO and Rachel do but we devote the entire program just to debunking the lies and wondering how Fox can keep its FCC license when they don’t serve the public interest.
I think almost every spree killing since the election has been a right wing nut who listens to one or all the hate mongers on tv and radio.
Why the FCC doesn’t pull licenses is beyond me just how do lies and hate which leads to spree killing serve the public interest?
Thanks Perris:)
Glad I teased it out then, as I had missed it.
That is a very good price. Damm now I want some sushi but nothing is open.
Yeah, I’m in OK. All the food is poisoned. The “health food” store just sells pills. Lambsquarters is the farmers’ greatest enemy. Of couse the farmers just grow cow food. Can’t eat the fish; they’re full of mercury from electricity and Monsanto runoff from the farms and golf courses. Only been here two years and bailing soon. Thinking about migratory bicyclism.
I am doing my panera thingy, forgot to live blog though;
started the day taking my beutiful car down to the park where everyone with beutiful cars go to appreciate everyone elses beutiful cars
bitter cold, ears freezing off but the sun was shining brighter then a summer day and captree has some of the best chile you’re gonna have this side of texas, it’s so thick they could serve it as pudding
today was a bitter sweet day as it was probably the last sunday I can show it off, I am going to but rhyus millens daily driver for the same price I’ve will sell mine (the same car with 40,000 fewer miles and almost ten grand in mods)
rhyis millan is a famous drifter and pontiac sponsored him with the solstice for professional use and an additional daily driver
hard to pass that up but I love the one I have…sad face
so after the park I hurried to panera bread for some elliott acttion, had my heart attack, kosher special (sausage, egg, bacon, swiss, gorganzola, heated to melt everything over the eggs, yum) and am now live blogging it
GOOD MORNING FIRE DOGS!
this makes you a tease then
False news is just waiting to get the ok to start calling Obama a negro!!!
Panera is good food I never had a piece of just bread that filled me up like a quarter pounder before. Plus it stayed with me 1/4 ers normally pass quick through me.
Should Harry Reid resign? asks Mike Wallace
The Onion soup is the best….
I’ve been accused of worse. *g*
So sad you giving up your favorite car
you driving around witih the top down in this cold?!
Jane’s letter with Norquist last week got me thinking about a petition for a bllot initiative to revoke some corporate charters. Every state’s attorney general has the authority, but none of them do it. CA almost revoked UNOCAL’s charter back when they were genociding in Burma for a pipeline; now they’re doing the same shit in Afganistan, and not a peep. Found a coupla interesting sites on charter revokation: poclad.org and ratical.org. Hell, Thomas Jefferson was ranting about this, and still, here we sit.
He quit his job years ago.
Thats right, plus Harry Reid is another one of those closet religous wackos.
Not doing one’s job is different from resigning.
too cold today, ears falling off cold, I never wear a hood ever but today in the park I had to grab a shirt I had in the car and wrap it around my head
Interesting.
Could you flesh that out into a diary to get the conversation going?
that is great stuff jack, definately worthy of it’s own post, I agree there with elliott
it’s good enough to make front page me thinks, go for it
*Pokes head outside Igloo* … Is this frikkin’ winter over, yet ?
It’s so cold, CNN had to chisel Lindsay Graham off HoJo’s leg …
G’morning all !
This sounds like a great idea Blackwater, Hal, KBR, between them they got killing Iraqi civilians, electrocuting our troops and raping an American woman. If corporations were people in some states they would lose their right to vote.
What if we pulled their charters instead or at least forced them to no longer lobby Congress or give money to politicians?
Just what does a company have to do to get its chartered pulled? In a country where missing White Women stories are 24/7 stories for months KBR rapes a blonde white girl yet nothing happens!
On top of that Bush’s State Dept *cough* looses the evidence and nobody is fired at the State Dept ( I was surprised Bush didn’t give the employee a Medal of Freedom).
Who cares Joe not Harry runs the Senate, Harry is Joe’s poodle, Obama is Joe’s other poodle.
I can hardly wait to see the O medal of freedom recipients.
Why must we always add tin foil hat to facts? The Supreme Court stopped the vote for Fl. giving the 2000 presidency to gbush. Their role is to set precedent. They themselves declared they were not setting precedent with that vote.
Remember conspiracy is when two people set about to commit fraud. There is more than ample evidence that our US govt is a conspiracy…not the other way around . Words are important. Don’t drink the Kool=Aid.
I just added the tin hat comment for those Kool-Aid drinkers on this forum
Not that there are any.DOH!
We could start throwing out names just who is the worse crook in Obama’s team?
Good Morning, Elliott and Firepups.
It’s nice to see The Canadian this morning. Hello, Petro.
I won’t talk about weather, ’cause I don’t want anyone to feel bad that it’s so glorious here. *g* But, maybe you all saw it on the news anyway.
So, I guess we Californians are going to witness a very important Federal Trial starting tomorrow and we’ve got some FDL celebrities traveling to blog it. Wish I could afford to take some days off and bus up to Sacramento, but I guess I just have to settle for watching from my toobz with my FDL brothers and sisters.
Geithner’s my pick.
Was there a decision on televising it? If so, I missed it.
Id say Summers is a leading candidate for that,he did for Harvard what he did for Wall Street.Only they called them Interest swaps where he took Harvards Endowment from approx.30 billion to 18 billion during his tenure, all the while making millions for himself and friends
{{{ demi }}}
A friend moved to LALALand in the fall … keeps texting me the daily temps. *g*
Who’s going to Sac for the trial ?
Geithner, Summers, how to choose?
Helicopter Ben gets my most stupid award in my world stupidity is a felony:)
Close your eyes and point.
Eric
thePrinceof PersiaLast I heard is that they are going to tape it and put it on youtubes. The attorneys for the Prop 8 side said they feared for the witnesses because of the emotional flavor of the issues. They should have worried about that before. When you spread hate and fear, yep, people might have an emotional reaction. Ya think?
He took a cut of the profits even after he lost money or was he just given an outrageous salary justified by previous wins but never adjusted for his losses?
Any Political friends get in on the Con he ran on Harvard?
Marcy and David. There’s a bit at the top right of this post regarding this.
Geithner, Summers, Bernanke, how to choose? Certainly a theme there.
As for war hero recipient, Petro suggest Eric Prince. To that list we could add Petreaus and several other generals.
Damm Straight!
Petro!!
if they had a camera showing the scene under the table… *g*
Thanks.
Kiddies are up … time to make Breakfast.
Hashbrowns & Weiners, Bagels & Cream Cheese along with Peppermint Tea or Tim Horton’s Coffee for anyone who wants some.
Have a great day … Go Packers !
That’s a scary thought; I was hoping to give Jane or bmaz or someone with some expertise an idea. All I know how to do is fuck shit up. The neighbor has to crank up this computer for me (she charges a nickel); I’ve only had electricity for 2 years. But I definitely think a ballot initiative would be faster than normal government channels. And time is definitely short.
Would you mind running that sentence by again? I don’t understand….you are selling a car to someone? A rhyus millens daily driver? What is that? Are you buying another? (sorry, don’t know much about cars…)
And I was wondering where your breakfast blog was! I’ve never been to Panera for breakfast, but I get their Greek salad a couple of times a month at least
Ben Nelson gave the play by play … grudgingly ! *g*
Elliott!! It’s freaking Sunday morning. Oh, my poor little beautiful mind. I’ll just have to keep looking at the beautiful hummingbird at the top to cleanse my brain. Thank you for the picture, btw.
Good morning everyone. I think I’ll watch Michael Steele. He’s always entertaining.
ECahn, did you follow the tracks. Coyote or dog?
yes
The only guy who could beat Prince is who ever told the Army to torture people at Abu Graid and that guy would be Rummy. Of course if the human trafficing rumors about Prince turn out to be true I’ll change my vote.
Still just what does a Bushie have to do to get investigated by the Justice Dept?
can’t wait to watch the show tonight, sounds like some incredible filming
Here in Sunny South Bend it is 8 degrees and there is at least a foot of snow on the ground. HUGE icicles hanging off my roof, one is at least 7 or 8 ft long. And the worst of winter still awaits us.
((twolf!))
Once, I was standing in the back yard, turned around and there was a hummingbird hovering about 18 inches in front of my face. She stayed there for about a minute before zooming off. It was a spiritual moment, truly.
Linky no worky for me.
Do NOT stand under those icicles, please.
http://www.mercurynews.com/bay-area-news/ci_14134134?nclick_check=1
The longest is hanging off the upper story, and I haven’t tried, but I don’t think there’s enough room under it for even 5′ 3″ me to stand under it. But thanks for the caution.
How was your trip to Washington? I must have missed your report on your adventure.
Just tried to go to the next item in my FDL RSS “Deliberately flouting securities law or grossly derelect in his duties” and got 404 not found. I suspect there was a substitution, no?
[Modnote: yes, sorry]
Good golly. Do you actually go outside when it’s that cold? Do cars start? I just can’t even imagine, spoiled brat that I am.
That didn’t work for me again. Got a page not found both times. But I went to the Mercury News site & am reading up on their coverage.
If it is as cold as it is and you are forming icicles do you have any insulation in your attic?
I posted pics on my FB page. It was interesting, but I think more meaningful for our choir director. He’s African American and went to DC for Obama’s inauguration. He had a piece commissioned and performed at Clinton’s first inaugural, so having a group perform inside the WH was a wonderful thing for him.
We sang for more than an hour. Evan Bayh’s wife came by and talked to us and had her picture taken with us (I mentally bit my tongue and smiled). When we finished, we toured the State Floor and saw all of the decorations. It was some sort of public open house with lots of people streaming through and snapping pictures.
When I’ve seen clips of Obama’s comments on the underpants bomber, he is speaking from where we sang.
Yes, of course we go outside! You get used to it. My sister who lives in SanFran thinks it is “cold” when it gets into the lower 60s and I’m going without a coat at that temp.
Foothills Mike, yes, there is good insulation. But I have overhangs and the ice gathers there and drips over the edge and forms icicles. I might have a bit more insulation blown in (the house is 22 years old) but it was very well constructed so I think the insulation probably is adequate.
Good morning Dogs,
Perhaps I will get censored again today by the progressive, tolerant and liberal web site.
So another Sunday morning of talking heads of blather. The same old Left vs. Right false paradigm.
When are you dogs going to wake up and realize that both parties are controlled by the Wall Street puppet masters. I voted for President Obama, I bought into the change concept but all I have left is change in my pocket.
You need to understand why our country is so messed up. There is a movie out called “Fall of the Republic” go to YouTube and view it and lets discuss it together. http:www.youtube.com/watch?v=VebOTc-7shU
LOL yes cars start, and my little PT Cruiser goes like a champ.
I think I have never seen Baby Cheney try to express a thought….What a whiner. Who promotes her?
Well, I was kind of kidding about going outside. I’m more acclimated like your sister, I’m guessing. *g* Is she politically bent like you? If so, is she going to head over to Sacramento to glimpse the trial?
G’mornin’, Bev.
She is creepy, isn’t she? Serious question here, really really why does ABC have her on? No snark.
oh how wonderful! Will have to sign in to FB and look at your pictures, thanks msmolly
weird, because it worked for me,
well glad you can read up there, there have been some appeals
I have a silver solstice gxp with 45000 miles on it, I am giving it up for exactly what I am paying for a car with 4000 miles on it and it is currently owned by a famous driver.
the panera I go for breakfast is in long island new york, if you live near by we’ll meet and blog together!
Like Kay Bailey, she’s the ’50s Cheerleader….
But, she’s so young. Must be insulated like msmolly’s attic.
She can’t help it….she was born with Dick & liz as her parents;)
Finally a few people I find here that I agree with. Obama has turned out to be controlled by the same folks that stole the election in 2000. Obama is Bush III.
So what do we do???
I agree, but I wasn’t taken in by the messiah. I am however a pist off democrat.
Panel takes her to the cleaners for her comments about Harry’s comments about the President….finally.
Yay!
I went off to shower and just got back, so you may not see this. I am in South Bend, IN. I wonder if we could live blog our breakfasts virtually?? And thanks for the car clarification.
And Demi, yes my sister is liberal like me, but she is still “clinging” to Obama as the “best President in my lifetime” and thinks I am a far left wingnut. Which may be true. *g* I doubt she’ll be going to the trial, but I’m sure she and her hubby will be following it. They have some gay friends, so I think they’d be interested in the outcome.
as someone else dubbed him, Obummer
Ye gods, is there no escaping Liz Chee-knee? Now she’s coming up on CNN. Something’s coming up here, too. My breakfast. As I listen to Lie-berman talk about people being held accountable.
Yep. HGTV Channel here I come.
It’s called state media. Terror and fear to keep our minds off the high jacking of our country by people who never get on the TV.
Don’t pay taxes and don’t buy their health insurance. Very circular. That is the way this country got started.
Woud you say vapid? Maybe it’s the blond Breck girl thing. Absurd; is she an authority on anything?
Q. Is she an expert on anything?
A. Covering daddy’s ass.
yep and today is no exception.
Wow, that’s a big job. Thanks for the explanation….
postscript: I’m stakin’ my claim to CDA=covering daddy’s ass, as in Liz Chee-knee, today on whateverbuzzshow, CDA and g-droppin’ talkin’ about swizzlespin….
Yes, I did change back the channel a moment too soon and caught the tail of Chee-knee’s CNN CDA time.
I believe that would more likely be, “incontinent”, as in suffering from diarrphooey of the mouth.
just finished sending happy new years’n'years greeting to relative hoopsie known ta’ use-ta’ dabble in day-trading whoops ta’ rather recently.
