Some years ago, I attended the Woman’s Campaign School at Yale Law School. Since then, I have been to campaign training sponsored by EMILY’s List and another sponsored by Eleanor Roosevelt’s Legacy Committee. The goal of all of these organizations is to give women the tools they need to run for and win elective office.

At events supporting organizations like this the talk often turned to ideals like real gender equity with 50% representation in the legislature, as well as women elected to office from big Electoral College states. It seemed like such a far-off dream.

Well, it looks as if some of those dreams may be coming true. Right now there are three woman mulling runs for United States Senator from New York State. I’m a New Yorker, so I pay attention to stuff like this.

Obviously the incumbent — appointee Kirsten Gillibrand — is working towards being elected to the seat she occupies. Former Congresswoman from Staten Island, Sue Molinari, is considering running on the GOP ticket. Most recently, Katrina vanden Heuvel, publisher of the “The Nation” magazine, tweeted that she is considering entering a Dem primary.

The race for Senator from New York has three women? Booyah!

Oh, and some guy said he might run, but that’s so yesterday.
