zed!!
Got the last one of the year and the first one of the year. Ha!
ES!!!!!
ES!!!
And congratulations, senator marymccurnin.
Eureka!
You’all are late. I have been deprived of my rightful zed. Just kidding!
My first act as senator will be to sponsor a bill for the funding of all activist blogs. The second will be to sponsor a bill for a six week double paid vacation for all Walmart employees. Just cause.
Got any plans for the DOJ?
I’ll be on your campaign committee.
At least I’d have someone to donate to.
Senate colleagues respond by mandating that interns spread newsprint on floors to protect carpeting from the inevitable leakage that occurs when Senator Mary thunders the place.
Like Ron says-”Don’t make my ex-wife mad.”
Now that we have no particular subject to discuss, are there any plans to cover the Prop 8 trial that will be starting in just 10 days? It seems that some of the pro Prop 8 witnesses are camera shy.
And my letters will be personalized, and answered!
Funny Ron!
ES Eureka Springs local boys screw the government before they screw you? The twangy banjo says it all.
You two are never going to run out of jokes about this.
Very healthy.
I was thinking about that as well.
Senator McCurnin. That has a nice ring to it.
Aloha and HNY, ES…! ;-)
My great uncle was the longest serving state rep in Louisiana. Tot McCurnin. My dad ran for state legislature but didn’t win. It is in the blood.
I like Hoodoo Man Blues, what a voice.
What are we waiting for?
I am getting sort of goofy. I got up early, early. So I am off to bed.
That reminds me of a joke. Mickey and Minnie were getting a divorce. The judge said “So, Mickey, you are divorcing Minnie cause she is crazy.” And Mickey said, “No, judge. She isn’t crazy. She is fucking Goofy!”
Good Night!
My feelings is to get back to our roots. I first found the Lake because of the Plame case. The Prop 8 case is going to the supreme court and I find it interesting that the people argueing for it don’t want to go on public record for it.
If my fudge turns out good, I’ll share the recipe.
An ad team and some money?
Nite Mary…
Got links?
I don’t see how they are going to avoid it really. I can’t imagine the California media isn’t going to be all over it.
Do it! Any peanut butter fudge in the mix?
Well, the ad team is huge and posts here daily. No agencies could touch the talent here.
As for the money, with all the foodies here-eternal bake sales?
Night Mary
Nope. It’s an old family recipe, sorta basic but temperamental. Haven’t made it for about fifteen years but got the urge.
Great joke ROFLOL Pleasant dreams Mary.
This I believe is what I meant.

Hah! G’nite Senator!
Wherever you are ES, “Screw the Government” is good stuff.
I’ve done lots of ads for many campaigns and have at least a dozen victories. I haven’t thrown in with anything for fdl though.
Perfect! I’ve got just the woman for you. And you can work from home, OFG.
Happy New Year all!
Bonne Nouvelle Annee Sunny!
It is not quite what I meant. The article that I read in my dead tree version stated that some of the witnesses in the case would not testify because of fears of threats from Gay supporters if it was televised.
HNY Sunny.
I read that in the Fresno Bee as well. Seem like it was a few weeks ago.
Happy New Year, Sunny.
Hey Sunny, happy new year.
Still, in a case that is certinly going before the Supreme Court, it would be a good idea to follow it closely.
In case anyone has questions, I recently lost someone I loved dearly who wasn’t allowed to wed the one he loved.
I haven’t had fudge in years. I’ve taken tiny bites of stuff that looks like fudge, but real fudge?…mmmm.
And my letter to the President addressed this… and DADT
Wow! Judge Walker to the rescue again!!! Thanks, drouse.
HNY, Sunny!
Yeah, and the thing is that wasn’t he a Bush appointee?
Good evening and Happy New Year everyone.
Oh, and… Screw The Government! I bought their t-shirt..)
What do they say? All hat and no cattle???
Accidents happen.
Hey ES!
Hey ES,
Happy New Year!
Sorry.
Happy New Year, ES. Was that at your friend’s club opening? Looked like fun.
Must have a rawking New Year for the folks in Eureka Springs and whereabouts.
How was the party ES?
George HW Bush. Not W.
Anyways I really don’t want to make this about me. I just feel that this case has the potential to change the entire political scene and that it would be good to keep on top of it.
You are very funny all hat and no cattle. My Colorado gave his straw rake before he went to the happy hunting grounds.
“The Government is screwed” thanks to sold out politicians.
Hey CT
Goodnight ES,
Best of all worlds.
Colorado cousin oops
Happy New Year ES.
What hat did you wear and have you had your black-eyed peas?
The hat was like the banjo player
The party was grand. And no, the video is from last Summer – I saw Mountain Sprout this evening and finally bought the t-shirt. I got some great party pics last night… will post them to flkr later on the week. My friend who will also be doing an FDL book salon in a few weeks will be doing a local article on last nights party later this week as well. Hopefully it will be online too.
I wore a blue sharkskin smoking jacket.. and a fine fur felt fedora hat. We had black-eyed pea shooters shortly after the midnight champaign..)
Slept in hungover don’t feel like blogging?
That makes more sense!
Tres soignee :)
No hangover… except from the Hotel air and central heating system (yuck!). We went to yoga class at noon on the same floor we danced last night. It’s a diffent kind of Feel Good Lounge…)
One fun thing last night.. live painters on one side of the dance floor. I think this photo might work well in the newspaper article.
Sunny, I forgot all about black-eyed peas. My mother used to make them every New Year’s.
DId she call the recipe Hopping John?
Thank you for all the wonderful comments last year Loo Hoo. Christmas and New Years in SD must have been fun.
Oh, I’ve got a Honey Baked Ham bone. Think I’ll make Navy Bean Soup. I already made a split pea, and it was delicious. I simply followed the directions on the back of the package. Too good!
Do you mean 2008 or 2009? I do love living here. I was raised in Bemidji, Minnesota, and I just don’t like the cold. Love the beauty though, and have lots of wonderful memories.
I’m going for creamy split pea soup with my extra ham.
Nice idea good energy in that painting.
Love black eyed peas
I was just trying to figure out the ham bone thing! I think I’m going with navy beans and kale.
You are one of the more eclectic commenters. 2009 What were we doing in 2008…hammering BUSHCO.
Oh, ES. Make a big batch. It freezes really well.
Good idea…)
Well I am calling it a night… cold cold cold night… down to 10!
Good night fabulous firedogs.
Yes. That and the BIG election!
Sweet dreams, Eureka.
Oops, should have reminded y’all. Have a bowl of b-e pea caviar going here. It’s quite good.
Creamy. I did that with my home grown butternut squash keeps in freezer Good base for lots of stuff. I still have nice chard in the garden might try mixing it’ Used walnuts in it. Pretty taste.
Good night ES. Have a bowl of Butternut squach with french lentils and slice organic 9 grain.
Pea caviar???
Is Malia a beauty, or what?
Kinda wondered about that myself LOO Hoo as I wander of to sleep for tomorrow go rowing
Good night. Enjoy the rowing. You must live somewhere warm.
Sorry, Loo Hoo – lost my connection.
black-eyed pea caviar is a dip of sorts. Peas mixed with onions, chiles, tomatoes, cider vinegar, sugar and cilantro. Served with tortilla chips and sometimes sour cream. Good stuff. Benefits from sitting in the fridge for a day or so.
No idea why it’s called caviar.
What kind of peas? Frozen? Are they mushed up and used in place of avocado?
Here’s a recipe that’s online.
I’d not add avacado until I was ready to serve it and I’m a purist about avoiding canned peas, but that’s just me.
Dried black-eyed peas. Soaked over night. Whole not mushed – they are really quite small. It’s chunky, perhaps called caviar because the peas resemble huge caviar eggs.
I’m not finding a great recipe online and I just kind of do it. I’m thinking lime juice, garlic and oil are also right. I’ll dig around for a good recipe. If memory serves, the chef at the Mansion at Turtle Creek has a great one.
Hmmmm. Sounds good. No oil, though. You think?
Learned this from a friend who is a great cook. I tend to wing it. Will check with her and get back to you with specifics – this one is a keeper.
You might try googling Texas Caviar. You should find plenty of recipes. It’s also known as Cowboy Caviar.
Here’s one recipe from dallasnews.com
Thanks for that link. Now in the plan for today and the menue for tomorrow.
Wow! thanks for the link. Helen Corbitt was an expert.
Do you ever sleep?
You’re welcome guys.
For the record, I hate hip-hop. But I gave this one a try. It seemed fitting.

You might need flash for it.
nope
Good morning, pups. It’s just Collins and Herbert today since Mr. Blow is off. Ms. Collins has prepared her “Year End Quiz,” and says it is time to take the challenge. Test your knowledge of events and quotations from the last year. Mr. Herbert seems a bit frustrated. In “The Miracle That Never Happens” he says time and again the New York Jets offer their fans hope that something wonderful is about to happen, only to revert to their perennial ineptitude.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got banana pancakes this morning. It’s been chilly and damp for days and days and days and days so I think I’m going to make a big pot of beef stew. It’s comfort food for weather like this. But I’ll feed the porch kittehs and have another cup of tea before I start. Have a great day.
Good morning everyone.
eCAHNomics, that was some amazing liquid you sent! It’s not really a sake, but is a rice “wine.” I’m using wine in quotes because it is some powerful stuff — definitely to be sipped in moderation. It combines the subtle flavor of a good sake with the kick of distilled spirits. Many thanks!
Oh kewl. So glad you like it. I’m a talented drinker, but that just wasn’t my taste. So it ended up in a good home.
Good morning, everyone. Today’s high is going to be zero, with wind chill values of -30. I’m staying home (again) and making an enchilada casserole.
I can’t get two separate events out of my mind: the ruling that let the Blackwater monsters go free and the handcuffing and shooting of children in Afghanistan. I feel numbed by these events.
I missed the story about the Afghan children. What happened & who did it?
Moving upstairs to PUAC.
Jacob Freeze has a diary on it. Sorry I couldn’t respond right away. I was searching for a good link.
