Yes, apparently we were talking to you

Idiocy, we all anticipate it by now.

Late Night: Andrew Breitbart FURIOUS at AP for Not Publishing His Full Rant on ACORN Report. Me Too!

By: Michael Whitney Tuesday December 8, 2009 8:00 pm

Andrew Breitbart is steaming mad that the Associated Press “whitewashed” his 118 word comment on the ACORN report. Readers really do need to read his comment, too. Really.

What If Global Warming Were A Giant Meteor?

By: Eli Tuesday December 8, 2009 6:01 pm

After reading this post by Bill McKibben at TomDispatch, I found myself amazed anew at the global warming deniers and cautious incrementalists who would gamble with the health of the planet rather than risk any reduction in corporate profits or wasteful excess. And I wondered, what would this resistance look like if the threat were something more obvious, like a giant meteor?

Public Option Grand Compromise Becomes a Grand Big Nothing

By: Jon Walker Tuesday December 8, 2009 5:07 pm

Well, that did not take long. Earlier today, I wrote how closely the new “grand compromise” on the public option at least seemed to closely resemble the theoretical alternative I wrote about several months ago based on several smart ideas. At the time, I predicted that these ideas would be no more tolerable to the conservative Democrats and Olympia Snowe than the public option. The reason is that these senators do not oppose the public option for ideological reasons. They oppose it because they will oppose anything that hurts the health insurance corporations’ profits. It appears I was 100% correct.

You Mean “We’ll Fix It in Conference” Was Just BS? No!

By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday December 8, 2009 3:15 pm

Circumventing conference can’t happen without the help of progressive members of the House. There are 83 members of the Progressive Caucus I believe.

It will present a whole host of interesting organizing opportunities that we haven’t seen before when rage in these communities allows us to put up reform challengers who will siphon off the strongest activist support over a health. Since those districts have no chance of ever going Republican, it would shake up the entire dynamic and pose the first real threat that many of these members have ever had.

Boxer Moves to Table Nelson’s Abortion Amendment (Update: Motion Tabled)

By: David Dayen Tuesday December 8, 2009 2:25 pm

[Update: Motion to table carries. 54 voting in favor.] Barbara Boxer has just offered a motion to table the Nelson amendment that would restrict abortion coverage access. Rather than requiring a 60-vote threshold or subject to a cloture vote, tabling the amendment needs an up or down vote to succeed. Tabling an amendment essentially kills [...]
