Physicians React to Lowering Medicare Age: Good Only if Mandatory

By: Jane Hamsher Thursday December 10, 2009 6:07 am

We don’t know what the restrictions on access to Medicare will be, so I question why anyone is out there promoting a pig in a poke.

Late Night: 99 Grünballoons

By: TBogg Wednesday December 9, 2009 8:21 pm

Hey remember that Republican guy whose idea of “food, folks and fun” is wine, football, and beating and choking the shit out of his girlfriend so that she can’t say the safe word “green balloons”?

Public Option Remains Popular; Health Care Reform, Not So Much

By: Jon Walker Wednesday December 9, 2009 7:25 pm

It isn’t rocket science, Sen. Reid. The public option has managed to maintain its strong majority support among the American people even after having one of the longest and most expensive political campaigns in recent history waged against it. Yanking it looks like a terrible move for the Democratic Party.

Bank-Friendly Dems Revolt on Financial Regulatory Reform

By: David Dayen Wednesday December 9, 2009 6:51 pm

The House Rules Committee released a very tight rule, with basically no amendments, for the regulatory reform effort being headed up by Barney Frank. This did not please members of the New Democrats, who are notoriously friendly with banking lobbyists. So they threatened to vote against the rule. This is from Congress Daily (sub. reqd.): [...]

Ethical Interrogations or Torture with a Pretty Name? New Documents Expose Fake “Rapport” Schemes

By: Jeff Kaye Wednesday December 9, 2009 5:32 pm

Stephen Soldz has published a devastating critique of the work of the FBI and Criminal Investigative Task Force (CITF) on the controversial interrogation of Guantanamo prisoner 063, the supposed “20th hijacker,” Mohammed al-Qahtani. Entitled “Ethical Interrogation”: The Myth of Michael Gelles and the al-Qahtani Interrogation, the article seriously questions claims that Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) Chief Psychologist Michael Gelles, and other interrogators associated with FBI, CITF, and other agencies, had fought against the Rumsfeld/SERE-derived coercive interrogation of al-Qahtani, proposing instead a lawful and ethical approach based upon “rapport-building.”

Obama Fought Hard For Triggers – Why Won’t He Own Them?

By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday December 9, 2009 4:20 pm

Booman is right about one thing though — Rahm wouldn’t be doing this without Obama’s approval. Obama wants “triggers,” and has since Rahm started pushing them in January 0f 2009.

Why Won’t Snowe Use Her BFF Status with Obama to Get Americans Cheaper Drugs?

By: Jon Walker Wednesday December 9, 2009 3:30 pm

For almost a year, President Obama has spent countless hours trying to woo Olympia Snowe to support heath care reform. He has been willing to bend over backwards to give in to almost every one of her demands. It is very unfortunate that Snowe decided to use her new-found power for evil instead of good.

Obama Claims Victory Over THIS?

By: Jane Hamsher Wednesday December 9, 2009 2:30 pm

So far from what Obama promised when he announced his health care plan in 2007 it’s not even funny.

I wholeheartedly endorse Markos’s comments.
