The Manufactured Outrage of Joe Lieberman

By: Jane Hamsher Tuesday December 15, 2009 9:31 am

Joe Lieberman is going to jam through the PhRMA deal that the White House negotiated. It will be of tremendous financial benefit to the pharmaceutical companies and achieve the objectives of the lobbying shops who have paid his wife. Responsible journalists should be asking serious questions about this connection.

Rep. Gutierrez Sponsors the DREAM Act as He Prepares to Unveil His Immigration Bill

By: kyledeb Tuesday December 15, 2009 9:09 am

At long last, Representative Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) is set to introduce his version of comprehensive immigration reform, tomorrow. The last time I wrote about Rep. Gutierrez introducing this bill, I chided him for failing to co-sponsor the DREAM Act. The fact that Gutierrez wanted to include the DREAM Act in his bill, but failed to co-sponsor it before, is just one of many ways the voices of migrant youth are stifled, used, and taken for granted in the U.S. immigration debate. I commend Rep. Gutierrez for finally showing migrant youth the respect we deserve by co-sponsoring the DREAM Act.

This Isn’t Health Reform; It’s Extortion for a Protection Racket

By: Scarecrow Tuesday December 15, 2009 8:01 am

The health reform debate is no longer about “reform.” It has now become a hostage rescue effort for more than 30 million innocent victims. Every decision from here on must put the victims’ interests first, and whether we pay the extortionists’ ransom demands or not depends how that serves the victims’ safety.

The Fire This Time

By: TBogg Tuesday December 15, 2009 7:09 am

If Rahm Emanuel is all he was supposed to be, we can safely assume that the Obama White House never gave a shit about health care reform — or they managed health care reform so horrifically and incompetently that they are now willing to settle for a “win”,” no matter how meager.

By: Cynthia Kouril Monday December 14, 2009 7:11 pm

Domestic violence is not about anger; it’s about power, coersion and control. Sentencing judges, victims, and even abusers need to remember this.
