Really funny. You gotta put up an Inhaler Alert! sign on funny stuff, Suz, I’m telling you!
hey newton — happy new year dood
First view thought it was one of them Drew Carey Whose Line Is It . . .
GREAT clip, Suz . . . still LMAO!
Best to you, critters, and family near and far . . .
DAMN that clip has it all . . . *G*
hey margot — happy new year hon. sorry about the lack of a spew/inhaler warning
hey larue — happy new year dood
My wife would like to thank ya’ll for the condolences downstairs… I had to go downstairs to the lobby to catch the wifi to send it…! I swear the wifi is acting up a tad too much since my recent postings…! Maybe they’re onto my rebellious attitude…! ;-)
nsa fuckery ct? check for a white van on your tubes
*giving our nsa minders the traditional one fingers salute*
Ma’am, and back atchooo . . . . still cryin at that vid you posted . . . geebuz, that’s out there!
*G*
must be your rebellious advocacy for Internet Neutrality — AT$T hates that
dood — you are supposed to be laughing *rolling eyes*
happy new year to you, Suz, and to all here.
Hiya Margot!
I waited and waited for the blue moon to appear… great cloud cover but NO MOON.
thought i would start off the brownies with this
*Salute* There’s a lot of vans around so it’s hard to tell…! ;-)
dang ce — can’t see the full moon here either i let this be my substitute
happy new year, Margot
*heh* AT&T is but one minnow amid the Corporate ocean…! ;-)
second full moon of the month was visible earlier – low clouds rolled in off the bay
Clear and unobstructed view of the blue moon in OKC.
LOL! I think I am beyond Poo Chi and have advanced to Pahn Chi. I am a bit late to the party because I was watching Inglorius Basterds and then decided I would stay and make sure this fucking decade actually ends.
hey dr dick — happy new year
hey ce — you get any snow?
AT$T is a very big playa in da tubes. This is the corporation that volunteered to spy on all of their data and voice traffic in violation of FISA in 2002 out of their SF center, and later pushed successfully for retroactive immunity from prosecution and civil liability.
If they can f-ck the Constitution, they can f-ck with your broadband connection.
Cryin, rollin eyes, on that vid, I’m not sure there’s a difference . . . lord that makes Firesign Theatre and SCTV status!!! Top shelf . . . and yet, I can’t avert my eyes . . . . lol
And a Meske Mucasa Afvkce to you. too.
love your shelf larue.. love your shelf
OK my dearest OFG — I’m putting on my rubber shoes and having a walkabout to see if the cloud cover is gone…
happy new year, DrD
The moon has just started it’s ascent here…! ;-)
I’m sure one of the cams up top has a pic…! ;-)
Oo-wie! I’m glad I’m not up there right now…! It’s freezing…!
Yeah, but they dumped Tiger Woods today . . . can’t be ALL bad . . .*G*
No, not at all! Let me check the moon and I’ll be back…
Spooky, my honey rented that today!!!
Have yet to watch it . . .
Wow . . . . wierd scenes inside the gold mine . . . .
Poo Chi ???
is that poon tang??
At least tell me what language, if not dialect, that is…! ;-)
Great movie if you like Tarrantino (which I do!).
nahant — didn’t ya watch the forking video???
Nope, north of there . . .
Yeah, I like Quentin . . . *G* He’s nuckin futz . . . .
Isn’t it always freezing at that altitude, CT?
happy new year, nahant
Muskogee, the language of the Muskogee (Creek) and Seminole Indians that I work with. Pronounced “MEE-ski Moo-CHAH-sah A-FUCK-chee” and literally translates as “year new happy.” Of course you have it all wrong becaus as any good Muskogee knows, the new year begins in July with the Apusketa.
What a great concert tonight from NY Philharmonic
I’ll bet!!.
Can’t help it, sometimes, Ya Gotta Have Some Old Bob . .
Again, The Bob
Can’t help it . . . . in love with this song, Bmin . . .
back at chA!!
Nope, the summer months are mild… I only have to wear one layer of winter wear…! ;-)
why july dr dick?
Let yer senses be yer guide . . . *bows*
He is also a devotee of some of my other favorite directors, specifically John Woo, Ringo Lam, Akira Kurasawa, and Takashi Miike.
Kurasawa and Woo are a full length grad degree for their offerings . . . *G*
I don’t know the other two . . . .
Still, you lose one degree F for every 300 feet gain in elevation and those are major cones there.
Oy. You would ask that. The Apusketa or Green Corn Ceremony is a world renewal and ceremony which is also intended to insure a prosperous harvest. It is held when the long season flint or hominy corn (oce safke) has reached the green corn (roasting ear) stage, which generally is early to mid-July.
kurasawa is mentioned in this iirc
Btw, Dr. D… I would like to ask your opinion on some of the issues that beset the ME/AfPak region from sociopolitical instincts that reign in the region… Could you send me an email to Tuttle at xxx…? Much appreciative…! ;-)
Suz… Be a doll and scrub it in a bit…! *g*
thanks — thought it had to be agricultural or food based and was trying to figure out the july — too early for harvest
as soon as i get the got it i’ll start scrubbing… first the drapes now comments — i refuse to do the windows however
*heh* Major indeed… If you measure Mauna Kea, the tallest, but not the biggest mtn., from the sea floor… It tops Mt. Everest by 10,000 ft…! ;-)
Ringo Lam is another Hong Kong director similar to Woo and who has also used Chow Yunfat as a leading man a lot. If you ever get the chance, check out his Full Contact as it seriously kicks ass and is the debut of the trick of having the camera trak a bullet in flight. Takashi Miike is this absolutely crazy, over the top Japanese director who manages to bring a manga/anime sensibility to live action film and make it work. Yoyo and the treatment of O-Ren Ishii in Kill Bill both draw on Miike (the former from Fudoh. His best known film in this country is probably Ishi the Killer, which is pretty representative of his better work.
He was a master, it’s good others honor his place in the making of art!
*G*
Nice pick gal!
Heh, No windows…! …you’re a sweetie indeed…! *g*
shhhhh don’t tell anyone — twould ruin my carefully crafted reputation yanno
Location, location, location . . . . *G*
There’s a fine line between homage and derivative film making. Sometimes Tarantino is both.
You have mail.
Pretty much mid-season. They traditionally planted early May and harvest the late (flint) corn and pumpkins in early October.
Heh, The biggest rock in the most isolated spot on Earth… Also located in the Tropics… What’s not to love…? ;-)
scrubbing
Danke Schoen…! ;-)
A true cinematic god. I love his work and have seen all of his films.
*gulp*
Say what?
I sorta got the part about the Kill Bill thang . . .
Wow . . . I’m WAY out of touch with film, directors, and such . .
I kinda gave up keeping up with it all in the early 80′s, when I begin to leave broadcasting.
I don’t do movies, or much rentals of such, either . . . or tv . . .
This old fart is focused on dobro’s, dobro music, and the grasses and americana artists I follow.
Sadly, I don’t have it to follow much more . . . I used to be SO hip, now I’m so far from the inside hip I’m old and in the way . . . *G*
Yeah. That is probably what makes Basterds so good, he finally gets past the derivative. As much as I love Kill Bill, if you are familiar with the genres he is working from, it is all derivative/homage.
i think the last movie i saw at the theater was shrek 2…
and tis rare to watch one on tv
happy new year to the mt time folks
I am a serious film buff, if only in selected (and generally offbeat) genres and have rented thousands of films over the years. I got into Asian film as a result of Kurosawa and have absolutely fallen in love. Kurosawa and Zhang Yimou are two of the greatest director ever IMHO. Woo ain’t no slouch either.
Woohoo! The fucking Naughts are dead and gone. Good riddance to bad rubbish, as my momma used to say.
We’re Old And In The Way
God I miss Jerry and Vassar . . . . sigh.
i can’t wait — i’ve had bad years but never a forking decade
I hear ya, ma’am . . . it’s all gone for me . . . lost.
And still my background lures me back into it all at times . .
And I have NO clue anymore . . . sigh.
“They’ll never care about you, cuz yer old and in the WAYYAAAAAA!”
*G*
Fassbinder!
Das Boot!
Despite doing adolescence in the late 60s and coming of age (and getting fucking drafted by Richard fucking Nixon) in the 70s, this is absolutely the worst fucking decade of my life (and I really wish I* could work a few more fucks into that just to prove that I am fucking serious).
old dogs
Happy Snappy all! Now back to read.
hey loohoo — happy new year
I’m pretty ready to concede, it was a bad decade for me, post July ’03.
Really bad. Aside from the festing and picking that is . . . ;-)
Income wise, supporting my honey, it sucked.
I’ve become very adept at shopping and cooking and cleaning, though.
Windows, not so much . . ;-)
Good evening, Suzanne, and happy new year! Loved the video–I am not loving my shelf, which is why I’ve been working hard to get rid of it. Been somewhat successful, but still have a ways to go. Exercise puts me in a better frame of mind, and that is a good thing for me. Improv. artists rock! So damn challenging to do good sketch comedy.
Just a drive by, but I love LLN! Thank you for the great posts.
IT’S A FUCKITY FUCK THREAD!!!
Woot! *G*
Uh, if Suz let’s us . . . *mybad*
hey votus — good to see ya agan — happy new year and thank you
Peckinpah, Kubrick, Scorsese, Winders, Jarmusch, Bogdanovich, Herzog, & Eastwood.
You too? man.
Breakin my heart, I LOVE Tom T Hall!!!!
His music book is about 1,000 songs or more . .
LOVE Tom T!
*G*
fuckery! what kinda fuckery is this??? hark tis midnight and round yon window is fuckery!
Well, Fucking A… It’s fucking over…! Fuck it already…! ;-)
Oh Thank you for this, I dearly love this song.
Sergio Leone!
Although I’d put Fassbinder on a level WAY above most, up there with Kurasawa and the best.
fuck you by lily allen
Yeah, but you still have a few hours of suffering before you can bury this mofo. I am only 16 minutes into relief myself.
Damn gal, are you quotin Bill Shakes .. . ?
Wow . . . ;-)
I did love Leone, though most of his best stuff is a ripoff of Kurosawa (Yojimbo and Sanjuro in particular. Of course the Magnificent Seven is also a ripoff of Kurosawa.
Kill Bill was what I had in mind. Haven’t seen Basterds yet, but the trailers make it look like a shoot ‘em up Monty Python odyssey through the third reich.
forking guilty dood
*edit* sorry for the fork — old habits yanno
WTF
Hi Margot! I still love them songs, all from the early 70′s . . . a few dates at The Boarding House in SF.
Love that band . . . and lord, I miss Vassar and his fiddle, from the early 60′s and all he did.
Grass and newgrass . . . and more, Vassar did it all and set the bar.
Because he swang, and swung, off the bluegrass beat . . .
Grass, new grass, hippie grass, jam grass . . . it’s all so bold it makes me smile thru the years of it all.
*G*
Pretty much, but in a good way and it works. Of course you have to be into that whole over the top violence that is his hallmark (as well as Woo’s, Lam’s, and Miike’s).
hey smgumby– happy new year
Heh, another 2+ hours to go…! Fuck…! Btw, can you take a gander at my Seminal diary I posted earlier…? ;-)
Hmm, a sign in . . . can’t do that . . .
I didn’t think anyone could out tarantino, quentin — but then I saw No Country for Old Men. It wins my vote for bleakest existential vision on film of the aughts, hands down.
try it here
Every Eastwood Spaghetti Flick is, too . . . Leone or not . . .
I guess, the Dirty Harry flicks were, too . . .
But like I said, I’m WAY out of touch from about the early 80′s.
Last great movie I went to see was ‘Gallipoli’ . . . and that’s old . . *G*
Same thing I said about your cop habits last night, eh…! ;-)
What do you mean,DD. How could this become worse?
Oh shit, THAT one!!
*G*
hehehehe
*innocent look*
ya were expecting this one?
Loved that movie. The Coen brothers are also definitely on my list of favorite directors.
raising arizona
funniest chase scene ever
Two of my favorite films of the decade were Crouching Tiger (2000) and House of Flying Daggers (2004)
Unforgiven is an absolute classic, as is Million Dollar Baby and there are a lot of other really good films in there, like Heartbreak Ridge and The Bridges of Madison County.
No Country was too dark for me, but it was inscrutable enough to win the oscar that year.
Hi Baby, Happy New Year.
Ya have some serious things to be thankful for, so do I.
The last decade pretty much sucked monkey balls but I have found a home and a base to lob invectives at a high velocity to to some recalcitrant public servants thanks to my spotters here at The Lake.
RIP Katymine and God bless ya Christy, we miss ya.
The rest of ya’s, Tomorrow is another day and some winger asshole needs to be kicked in the nexus of a blatant lie.
Happy New Year.
Crap, Thank ya Janie, keep after the sonsabitches.
Busted
happy new year busted
Nobody suspended the constitution, they did not take down the entire economy, we did not have the rightwing hate talkers like Limbaugh and Beck, and there was not a largely apathetic public which laid down and said stick it to me again. Do you really want me to go on?
Another great flick.
Mine, too.
Must be my aversion to emotional manipulation — creating sympathetic characters within the story, then killing them off indiscriminately.
No Country reminded me of a hyper-violent Bergman film.
I hate to say it, but nothing is ever too dark for me. I loved that film.
Hippie Nude Gear! (to quote Krgman).
A reasonable assessment, but that pretty much matches my worldview (I am a socialist after all).
‘K, I surrender . . . I give up . . . can’t HANDLE the hard . . .
Sigh . . .
This Will Be Our Year
Coen brothers have created quite a diverse body of work over the past 20 years.
*blowing smoke off my fingers*
it had better forking be margot — great tune too :)
Unforgiven was incredible . . . I truly heart Mr Eastwood . . . I like a lot of his more subtle movies post Harry, as a writer or detective, but I don’t have names at hand like you would . . . the Granada Invasion one? Eh, not so much.
A magnificent body of work in my mind. Every bit as challenging as Jarmusch and Winders.
i can’t handle another year in heartbreak hotel
Just keep up with the foodie thing, the troops need to eat dude.
Remember the clams.
Watching No Country, I thought they were casting their lot with the anarchists — Mad Max takes San Diego.
Damn I love this guy like a brother . . . he’s twisted, but I KNOW I can change him into loving some folk and americana and bluegrass shit . . .
If not, well . . . suck on Smoke On The Water, dude . . . *G*
I’ll copy the Stafford poem into this thread, if it helps, Suz.
Marion and CE, Happy New Year! And happiest to everyone. Good night.
I’m off to make a phone call.
Long live this little cyber place I call home.
Happy new years pups.
twas a great poem ppd — please
happy new year busted — g’thud to ya
Another Hong Kong film you might like is Ashes of Time by Wong Karwai. It does to the wuxia genre of Chines film (Crouching Tiger & House of Flying Daggers) what Unforgiven does to the Western. It is also visually gorgeous.
night, LH – be well
FLICKS?
Sometimes A Great Notion!!!
One of the greatest ever . . . .
Sigh, I’m old. . . .
g’nite loohoo
Hippie Nude Gear to you as well!
*startfanstoclearsmoke*
Truly awesome as well.
SAVE THE CLAMS!!!!!
Love ya like a brudder, hoss . . .
Dawg help ya with yer cooking . . .
*spews*
Awesome video Suz!
Happy New Year to everyone at the lake!
I’m old . . *G*
Movie wize . . . haven’t seen Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, even . . .
But I’ll chat about OLD movies, all night long . . . .
clams?
glad ya liked it smgumby
Hell, I am approaching 58, and I have seen that stuff (of course I got hooked when I was much younger). I have not seen, and likely will not ever see, most of the blockbuster hits for this year.
New Year’s Zed?
(I know, not the first of the post, but trying for the first comment of 2010)
happy new year west coasters!
hippo gnu deers everyone!
hey felix — how ya been dood?
by jove i think you got it
Happy New Year, Suze and all the other Left Coasters.
Well, the neighborhood firearms brigade is having their fun tonight
poor ct still has to wait for the naughty aughts to be over
Living on a beautiful tropical island — don’t cry for him, Honolulu.
good-holidays were good. lotsa family.
It has been surprisingly quiet here this year. Usually there are lots of fireworks, but not this year (part of the reason I decided to stay up tonight).
WooHoo! Mom will be so proud!
(funny how it’s the little things that keep us going)
in boulder creek there was gunfire every 4th of july and new years — glad that is not what folks do up here
It only lasts about 15 minutes here.
how wonderful felix :)
Yeah, but in boulder creek most of the gun fire is from muzzle loaders.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, Y’ALL!
It is kind of funny, but that was the case in Chicago, where firearms are basically illegal, but I have not seen that here in Montana where everybody has enough weapons to equip a small third world army.
happy new year that guy
I do like me some Delbert.
And what better way to ring in the new year than with you know who? :-D
lots of civil war re-enactors in the santa cruz mountain
hi tech geeks with muzzle loaders — pretty much describes a boulder creek redneck
WTF?! Y’all got too many Okies out there? California played no part in the Civil War. Of course Oklahoma (where I grew up) was home to the last Confederate governments to surrender.
Oh, dear dog. That sounds like a patented recipe for disaster.
you got it, Suz — callin’ out the posse to ride down to the people’s republic on the bay and raise some hell
they have a big reinactment annually in felton… the santa cruz mts were settled by lotsa civil war vets — working in logging. they also have a big highland games every year in ben lommond.
Oy.
ya never knew what was gonna happen next up there — and who was gonna be involved (laughing)
plenty of okies in our area, but today’s silicon valley wasn’t developed out of the dust bowl migration — the geeks live in the mountains and drive into Santa Clara Valley or work remotely by broadband from home or the beach.
All the best to you in 2010!
OK, time for me to head to bed. I went through half a bottle of merlot and most of a bottle of rioja and I need to depart while I can still sort of type.
happy new year bbfly
hey dr dick — ya got the 200
Happy New Year pups! Have to get back inta writin’ in ’10 since I have so much spare time!!!
g’nite dr (pause) dick

Back at ya Suze!!! Now it’s time ta snooze!!
I did indeed. Take care and good night.
snooze away dood — and then start writing
And always remember what I told the folks tonight at my gig, when we were done…
If you can’t drive safe, drive backward.
ya had a new years eve gig? most cool dood
Fill in thang, we opened for someone. Nice to be home before the amateurs start driving and running into each other.
ok — time to turn in — happy 2010 everyone
g’nite ppd

So thanks, and take the compliment . . . *G*
We just had hand gun fire in our apt complex . . . sigh . . .
peaceful (albeit stormy) here at the coast dood – only time i hear gunfire is the from hunters and i watch the birds scatter on the bay

(Sherman)
*G*
egg zachary
Yeah, you and Suz are ok, it’s all over now . . .
Still, it was WIERD to hear it . . .

zzzzzzzzzzzz
sorry folks — not gonna make it to alaska’s new year nor hawaii’s.
thank you so very much for spending time with me — for all the music, conversations, and hope. thank you for letting me hang out with you on a regular basis — for making our family here at fdl a family.
may your best day of 09 be the worst day of your 10
g’nite all
