Welcome to the newest craze where old men get together for some arousing fun —
a Yemen Party:
“Somebody in our government said to me in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, Iraq was yesterday’s war. Afghanistan is today’s war. If we don’t act preemptively, Yemen will be tomorrow’s war”
It takes more than one old war mongerer to get themselves stiff enough with excitement for a good Yemen Party:

Senator Lieberman tosses out a fascinating idea when he talks about preemptive action. That’s a big, complex subject but one we ought to be considering.
Yes, fascinating is not the word I’d come up with, but these older gentlemen are tingling with anticipation. I guess the thought of bombing Iran just isn’t the turn on it used to be.

Arlen Spectre (Ct4LIE-PA) seriously needs to be retired. Pennsylvania, we’re depending on you. Don’t let us down.
I haven’t read the piece yet.
AWESOME HEADLINE.
I love seeing memes travel to the oddest places.
If you could suggest a third person involved, I will shoop the hell out of it.
We’ve always been at war with Yemen.
Is there a Muslim nation Lieberman doesn’t want to bomb?
What better time to start another war. With so many unemployed, we have a poverty draft. I’m sure there are plenty of social programs that are over-funded, if not I’m sure we can find the money somewhere; we always do.
What the hell did Yemen do anyway? I guess I haven’t been paying attention.
The corporate media have been beating the hell out of this big “terrorist” story that I’ve tuned much of it out.
Incidentally, didn’t the Bush administration always play the terrorist card whenever they were getting ready to break it off in us?
Hey Amerika and the MIC loves a bloody good war. All that killing makes sense if you want to make BUCKS and Liarman and his Senate cronies just loves them BUCKS. Guilt or innocence means nada when in comes to making big BUCKS and if a few hundred thousand ayrabs have to be expunged well its all in the name of making big BUCKS, Gotta just love those Amerikan BUCKS
Ole Magic Bullet to the rescue. We can drop him on (in) Yemen. By my count there’s only about 15000 troops that aren’t already deployed or in rotation. 9/11 was a Saudi attack; so we blow up everybody else and smooch it up with them. Or was it a Cheney attack?
Cheney and the baby bush were certainly complicit if not directly involved. One of these days, maybe 50 years from now, if America is still around the truth will be set free.
Good morning, pups. The NYT has given us a gift. Oh, finally! The Pasty Little Putz is off. Prof. Krugman addresses “The Big Zero,” and says let’s bid a not at all fond farewell to the Big Zero — the decade in which we achieved nothing and learned nothing.
Here he is.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. Yemen may not have much oil, but isn’t that all some Solons in our Senate need to hear? They have oil? LET’S GO!!! Cripes. Have a good day.
I’m still waiting to hear that H.W. shot JFK. That’s right about when he became a “CIA asset”.
From Krugman.
Well thank goodness these people who thought like the above are now out of power……..
Better to look at the names of the ships that were supposed to land with American troops in the Bay of Pigs fiasco.
“Poverty draft”. I do believe that’s the plan. Already it’s the only path out of the ghetto unless you’re 8 feet tall and shoot hoops real good. Some jobs program.
Uh oh, you got me. I’ll have to look that up.
We learned just how venal the power pricks are and we learned just how sheepish and compliant the American people have become.
As for achievements. We almost god rid of GM and Chrysler, we almost “succeeded” in Iraq (whatever the F*** that means), we almost got out of Afghanistan (and would have if we had a president that lived up to commitments), we almost closed Gitmo (see previous bracketed comment), we almost had a swine flu epidemic (well at least Rumsfeld got rich), shit the list of bloody failures is too long.
More than you could possibly imagine about the Bay of Pigs. Why was unsurprised to see the name Howard Hunt?
A preemptive war is just or not depending on two factors. The first is the certainty of the impending attack. In this case, there does not seem to be any massing of troops on the border or calling up of reserves. As a matter of fact, there are no troops, no reserves, no border.
The second factor is proximity in time. Is the situation so pressed for time that all other avenues have no time to be tried? Is the attack so imminant that we would be essentially launching a spoiling attack?
It seems that the Yemen idea fails on both counts. What might be called for is the arrest by police of a crimminal connspiracy, followed by a trial at which we present evidence that laws have been broken by the conspirators.
In fact, a conspiracy requires both an agreement between or among people to commit a crime, followed by a triggering act in furtherance of the plot. If anybody has done this, it is more likely us.
Check out the skull and bonesers involved while you are at it. from trying to foment a coup, to doing business with Hitler, to having “enemies” die in small planes, to selling guns for coke, to blowing up a passenger airplane, to starting a bank and doing business with Bin Laden, to creating the savings and loan debacle, to instigating a financial crisis…..the list goes on and on when it comes to those bushies
Geez !! Like we haven’t learned anything from our preemptive war with Iraq
It ain’t just the Bushies — John Kerry was a member. A thoroughly creepy “shadow government” if you ask me.
Yep, there was a reason John boy capitulated in Ohio so damn easily.
Oh, hell on earth with all the niceties….”fasinating”, indeed.
Put a uniform on him and let Lieberman lead the charge. Seriously, putting politicians in harms way would be one way of uniting the country.
Lieberman is likely to have a Yemenal emission.
Yemen-bombing is the new Viagra? Legs atingle, can Chris Matthews be far behind?
I like your list of “almosts.” It would be more biting and relevant if the “almosts” were converted to what they really were, “failures.”
We have failed each other not through the fear that pervades the right but through our own inaction.
Your discussion of the mechanics of conspiracy neglected one important aspect: always blame an aboriginal, stone age people for the crime especially if their country is intellectually barren.
If the CIA has been to this country, then one can assume safely that its bomb making skills have been perfected. The old trick of the exploding underwear, highly classified in the US, is taught in the madrasas of the Middle East.
Not necessarily.
Last night on ABC News, they interviewed Lieberman, and in the same piece: described Yemen as (1) “a breeding ground for terrorism,” (2) “a hornets’ nest,” and (3) “a largely lawless country.”
Did ABC’s alleged journalists interview anyone who has ever set foot in Yemen, other than Lieberman? I can’t believe the Yemeni government would issue a visa to that guy.
Washington is beating the war drums again, so loud we can hardly think.
when the jews speak america sends its money and soldiers.
that is genius with their lobbying efforts.
give credit where credit is due.
they are ten times smarter than most americans.
they have joe in their pocket.
and americans keep putting him in office term after term.
the real culprit american ignorance.
