So, as this year draws to a close — talk about going out with a bang! — and we enter the 21st century’s even more obnoxious “Tweens” (yeah, yeah, argue amongst yerselves when the new decade really starts), I thought it might be a good time to reminisce. I do love a good list, so I have decided to create “Things I Won’t Miss About the Aughts”. As always, this list is hardly all-inclusive and in no particular order, except the first one; I’m sure I’ll smack my forehead later and think, “Jeezy creezy, how the hell could I have forgotten to put THAT on the list?”
So help a sister out. Please add what you won’t miss about 2000-2009 in comments.
1. The COMPLETE failure of the administration of warlord ventriloquist Dick Cheney and his dummy, George W. Bush. And anything and anyone even tangentially related to them.
2. Laura Bush’s unfortunate fashion choices. Cameltoes in the White House. Oy.
3. Fred Thompson in his role as “Grandpa Daddy.” Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.
4. Rudy Giuliani’s multiple runs for office (although they did make for very amusing blog posts around the country).
5. For that matter, enough with the “WTMI” about Rudy Giuliani’s personal life.
6. Donald Rumsfeld’s verbal kung fu press conferences.
7. People taking photographs of their babies in front of the smoldering ruins of the World Trade Center. Yeah, you’ll look back on that at future family reunions and think “Good times!”
8. The genius idiot box programming directors taking MTV’s “Real World” format and running it into the ground. Who the hell are the Kardashians, anyway?
9. Michelle Duggar‘s perpetually dilated cervix. I mean, granted, attaturk and I spent countless hours guessing which “J” name they were going to come up with next. They haven’t gotten to “Jazzhands” yet, but I’m thinking that poor woman’s uterus is screaming “JUST STOP ALREADY!” To be fair, though, Michelle Duggar seems incredibly well-adjusted, at least when you compare her to Octomom.
10. Killer sharks and missing white women.
12. The War on [fill in unwinnable conflict here]. Nothing says “neverending riches for the military/corporate industrial complex” like amorphous enemies.
13. Celebutantes and their sex tapes. Only in this country can little rich girls become media celebrities by having sex.
14. Assholes who think driving Hummers est muy macho. Buh bye, Hummers!
15. The death of Reason in this country.
Anyway, I’m looking forward to 2010, since it’s the Year of the Tiger.
So from me to all of you, happy holidays and may we someday get peace on Earth, campaign finance reform, real climate change legislation, and single payer health care? Please?

watertiger!
Hey Watertiger and Suz. Think I’ll remember this decade as the torture decade.
Ue-Kaca!
I don’t think there is much of anything I will miss about the aughts.
Happy year of the tiger!
(I’m one of the tiger-year people. Worked it out through a Chinese horoscope site that I’m a white-metal-tiger.)
i would wish the aughts hadn’t happened but then that would mean no fdl.
tis ’bout the only good fucking thing that happened in the aughts
i’m a green wood horse (edit: i think)
Merry Mithramas!
http://www.near-death.com/experiences/origen048.html
Best quote I heard about this: “it’s a vagina, not a clown car.”
So you’ll miss naught about the aughts?
Missing White Women stories instead of real news.
Celebrity drug stories either they are getting minimal sentences or they are dying because they never get a flashing blue light wake up call that ends with a few years in jail.
Well Water Tiger and I must be related, because I am a yang water dragon.
Also stories about atheletes or other celebrities behaving badly in any form. I frankly do not give a damn who Tiger Woods is or is not screwing.
the aughts — when news became info-tainment instead of news
Toyally Torture and white phosporus bombs on captive civilian population.
Agreed!
Bremer: “OK, so now that Fallujah is swept under the news cycle… NEXT!”
Our country ought not be bought by haughty naughty aught bots like Bush.
Or Replican booze stooges like Cunningham, Abrhamoff and Lott.
Also. AbuG, Sandra O-C, Darth Chay-nee.
Oh, pardon me.
I dunno, Watertiger, looks to me like most of the stuff on that list is still here.
I won’t miss having a President who can’t complete a sentence, though.
I can live without hearing how everything we want is politically impossible, to expensive and must be budget neutral but war heck no spending limits!
I can live without hearing how great the economy has recovered and how 10% unemployment and more people losing their homes doesn’t really matter…in a consumer economy.
Lanny Dee’s trolls! Happy holidays, Firefox users!

I just like Aimee Mann and Grant Lee . . . saw them at a fest in the early to mid 2000′s.
Moved me.
Bless ya ma’am, thanks for all you do.
May your stockings and dreams be full for another decade . . .
*bows*
Hi Suzanne,
Hiya, and I’m just happy to be here at FDL.
heya ce — me too :) tis my calm port during rough waters
I just spotted some chocolates left at my door stop that.
Newtonusr you are quick on the draw.
Hi Watertiger may all your wishes come true and you keep offering these interesting political ripostese. Thank you ever so much for interesting and thought provoking pieces. 1979 at U of Oregon I attended a vagina lecture. Wonderful anatomy awesome producer of billions of mamals. Imagine a whale vagina.
Condi saying nobody could have anticipated! My blood pressure still goes up everytime I hear it.
Heh, he fucked himself, what more do we need to know?
Another person, set on the precipe of history, only to fall off, far, and deep.
Sigh.
Mighty rough waters of late…! ;-)
I do keep telling the ‘Newbies’ that the Lake’s waters do run wide and deep…! ;-)
Yes, indeed. I’m having a hard time using MrCE’s IBook. I can’t back up to delete, blah, blah complain…no mouse to guide me…
Oh Dell, why have you abandoned me? That said, Hi Suzanne, How is your Christmas Eve?
tis a quiet one — a good thing :) token and i are kicking back — we’ve each licked off our eggnog mustaches, and are settled in for a long winters night.
I’ve seen Mz. Hamsher, Jon W, David D, WT, Other Front Pagers and then Hugh, Teddy P, Kelly~!, you!, and more many more Pups take it to the invading hordes and hand them their soiled underwear in their teeth.
I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it all.
*G*
I was born in the Year of the Ox, which I guess makes me a cow-pie or something.
Mine too, TCU. She was such a glaring example of bald-faced lying…some gall she had.
I’m glad you’re here, and Christine, WT, Suz, and everyone.
Ain’t it a thing of beauty…? ;-)
Watertiger!
I clicked that Laura Bush/cameltoes in the White House link with great trepidation but I simply HAD to know. Thankfully I am not left with scarred retinas.
That’s like Bush telling the CIA folks that they’d covered their asses. Revolting.
the cameltoe song
I just talked to my sister in Norman, OK. After hours of sleet it started to snow there. At last report they have 14″ with high winds and drifting. Makes the cold rain we got all day seem pretty good.
Dear Suzanne,
Christmas Eve here in Pennsylvania is snowy, calm, beautiful, and just cool, not cold. We went on a snowy walk this morning, surveying the tops of hills and following the fox prints off into the woods. We collected greens and holly, and decorated the house. It was wonderful to spend it with MrCE’s family.
I’m a Fire Horse according to the Chinese Horoscope…! The implications are profound… The ‘Fire’ sign only grace’s a sign once every 64 years…! ;-)
Jeebus! They won’t know how to handle that. Here in the northern Rockies we just have a light dusting of snow.
Glad your here too Merry X-mas!
*sigh* sounds wonderful ce
OKC’s snowfall made the local news up here — yikes
Hugh’s List over 300 unaddressed by Obama Military Commissions Act and much much more. http://www.theleftcoaster.com/archives/011620.php
She was supposed to leave this morning to join my niece and her family on the Gulf Coast but put it off because of the sleet. Don’t think she’ll be going anywhere soon.
she’s got a white christmas whether she wants it or not
Third that Condi’s lips move spinning the moments. Very Bad.
Just checked and it looks like there is a blizzard warning for where my son is north of Tulsa. I lived in Oklahoma for 35 years and never saw a blizzard warning there.
LOL! I have a new favorite Beach Boys song.
When I was 12 I spotted a Volvo while delivering newspapers. They were pretty new in these parts so I mentioned it to my family during dinner. Apparently I was a little unclear on the correct pronunciation. I can still recall the look on their faces when I announced that I’d seen a vulva.
Nope. Unlike Illinois and Montana, Oklahoma does not have the equipment to clear the roads.
Did I mention love, peace and happiness with dramglasses full and Slainte Mhath to all Pups lately?
If not, then now, I have . . . love this town, love these people of all types . . .
Thanks for all the chats, rants, and rambles . . . . each and every one.
Really, and I MEAN that . . . ;-)
They are really old, at 89 and 86. It could be the last Christmas, so we wanted to make it special. And the kids came from New York, too. But, hey, we brought gin, too!
hahahahaha
Peace and good tidings to you and yours, Larue.
They get 14 inches of snow and they have no plows?
the lake is a very special place and a large part of what makes it special is the community down here in the comments section.
Slainte Mhath back atcha dood
I resent this administration the “Hope for Change” was con and that is worse than criminal it is the stuff that Benedict Arnold did. Not the left it was his base that was double crossed. Is there an honest candidate. Obama is giving away our farm. Treachery. I hope the trolls are reading because it is the truth. He is not supposed to sell out the climate because the senate wants him to he is in a leadership position but is following.
And of course nobody down there owns a snowblower. My sister is worried that her elderly neighbor will head over with a snow shovel. She said there is a drift in front of her garage about 5′ high.
That’s just it, they never get that much snow down there. Six inches is a heavy snowfall for most parts of Oklahoma.
Weather patterns changing with global warming maybe?
Good god! When you normally only get 3-6″ at a time, you don’t need much equipment. I never saw drifts more than maybe 2 feet in the 12 years I lived in Norman.
Norman was where my grandparents lived and lots of other aunts and uncles and tons of cousins. I remember it fondly from brief visits when I was little, but one uncle wanted me to go there to college. Nuh-uh.
Probably. One of the things global warming does is produce more extreme weather of all kinds. It also changes the storm paths, which may have happened here.
isn’t the tornado warning center in norman… they are gonna get busier
OU is actually a pretty good school and Norman is (or was when I was there) a pretty liberal town. I did my graduate work there.
The National Severe Storms Laboratory is located there. Yeah, they have already been busier than usual. I hear that the twisters, like the hurricanes, are getting stronger.
That makes it super special, Christine. Enjoying every minute. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
CE, I recall my folks last XMAS with us all when they were fully with us.
Bittersweet, ma’am . . . and we love them then and now . . .
*smooch*
Me and mine to ya . . .
Nancy Grace.
That is all.
Merry Xmas all on FDL, from a newbie who is happy to find a home for liberals with backbone. The end of the beginning has finally arrived.
I know, my mom graduated there and I thought it was a good school, but the thought of 10 sets of aunts and uncles closely observing me was more than I could take.
welcome mibhunter and merry christmas
?
There is that. Fortunately I had no relatives in the immediate area.
Thank you Larue back at cha.
Merry Christmas back atcha, mibhunter.
Thanks so much, Loo Hoo.
My dear FIL got out the family silver, the china, and set the table, at 89. We helped with food and sides. We had a wonderful ham based meal ( my joke to him: what is the definition of eternity? Two people and a ham… heh, heh.
Merry X-mas mibhunter:)
dammit teddy — i had finally scrubbed all traces of her from my brain
Bloomfield, Kooper, Brooks. Super Session. Tower Of Power Horns Added In Post Production
Lord Bloomfield’s git . . .
nice catch of reid telling the truth upstairs
Oh Chris. What a beautiful scene.
My dad died in early ’95 and it’s two years since my last Christmas with my mom. Holidays aren’t quite the same for me now but you have to make the effort for the kid… Bob insists. :-)
Cherish them while you have them. My father died about two weeks after I had been down to see him at Christmas. I am really glad I had that time at the end.
Hattip, hoss, hat tip and best wishes . . .
Thanks for being part of it all . . . . one day we meet and smile and shake and howdy.
Tonite, we smile.
*G*
Give Bob a Christmas peanut for me. 8-)
Welcome mibhunter, happy yule.
Lots of love hoss, for now and then, yours and mine.
Tweet and chirp to Bob, crackers to all.
And with great sincerity, bless ya hoss . . . yer a stalwart amongst us all.
Bless ya.
Bob says, “Thank-ya very much!”
Margot,
We had such a wonderful time tonight! The windows were sprinkled with white and red lights (half price from Walgreens) and the sang and sang Christmas carols to lots of recorded music. And then worked on the Christmas jigsaw puzzle (me, making everyone do it).
Ahhhh, Christmas.
Time for me to toddle off. Take care all and a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Cheery Kwanza, Frolicking Festivus, and Super Saturnalia to everyone.
Stall wart? Like Larry Craig? No really, I just have a wide stance…
Seriously though, thanks a bunch. FDLers are the bestest!
Time to get Bob in his jammies, maybe see some of you at LLN.
Happy holiday and PROGRESSIVE New Year to all!
Hi y’all! Bye y’all! Just snuck upstairs for a minute.
I hope you all have a great Hollandaise!
Smooches!
Sorry it took so long to reply — welcome mibhunter@69. We are a contentious lot!
I have my dobro out and I’m movin thru songs in my puter’s library, I just did Kooper’s ‘I Can’t Quit Her’.
And I’m gonna bust out bawlin like a baby as I toggle from pickin, listinen, bloggin, and smoochin my honey.
This IS our honeymoon, only we can’t recall when it happened!!!! Only when we met, in ’84.
So, here’s to honey’s everywhere, here’s to pickers everywhere, and here’s to you Pups who listen to old music from the 60′s and such . . . . Bless ya one and all, I gotta turn up my music and pic, some bluegrass just came on. WELL, actually., it’s newgrass . . . .
Yeah, LIke This, Camp Jam Material
May we all camp jam till dawn . . . .
Hey Kelly, emailed a reply to your reply.
Katrina and Barbara Bush’s Barbaric comment in Huston.
Hugh’s list http://www.theleftcoaster.com/archives/011620.php and all the things that were Changes that we can believe in:
So why did they decide not to Health care reform?
Why do they wanr to grow the homeless population?
Why do they want to make the people who destroyed the global economy rich at taxpayers expense?
Why do they want more people to lose their homes?
Why do they want more people to lose their jobs?
Why do they want more people to stay sick?
Why are they leavjng all the Bushco appointees in government?
I do not want any of this next year or the next. Why do they ship jobs overseas.
Why do they spy on us?
Why is the USA have the highest prison population?
Ask you critter why.
