Got up againsy my wishes and drove to SLO for hot yoga. Then I saw the sun on the still bay t-shirt weather. Kids playing hackysack and hangin out with their mates and dogs. Some playing music drinking coffee and enjoying the school break. No breeze a litle ripple of diamonds,,,hummingbird enjoying blossoms while darting and stalling.
The moon overhead and the sun in the southern sky after a cold night. While coffe shop customers and tourist strolled in and out. Mostly very very nice after a long yoga session to relax and breath in the pacific air. Probably sent by CT. How’s your bay?

clear and cold. Enough frost on the windshield to be not only annoying, but outright dangerous. I’m gettin a lump of coal in my stocking for even thinking of pulling out before I was defrosted, let alone driving the few blocks that I actually did before I could safely pull over again. Teh Stoopid, it burns. Me in this case.

Home safe and sound, though. And got to do my upstairs neighbor a mitzvah–his dome light was on when I pulled in, and the engine wasn’t even remotely warm, so I rang him to let him know.

Early to bed tonight after my all-nighter. But once it got to be 4am (wound up watching Xmas Carol…), I figured another hour wouldn’t kill me, so I stayed up for the HC vote.

I like the Air, but in truth, I can cope with much less screen for a lot of things… as long as I bring my glasses. The Air is 13″ and could be smaller.

i started carrying a gallon of that stuff in the car when i lived on the mt and was commuting. it really did help along with the windshield wipers (hint: get in car and shut door before turning on the wipers)

i kept it in the trunk (and in winter on the mt on the floorboard behind the front seat)

I want lots of pixels in the vertical dimension. To me, 800 is very marginal and this one I’m looking at is 768. The reason is that I like to edit stuff using an math typesttting utility called LaTeX, which I then display in pdf. And a page needs about 1000 pixels to fit entirely on the screen.

Right now I use a ThinkPad that’s 1440×1050. When I was using a Macbook, I turned it sideways when I wanted to read my stuff in type-set format.

Was a dutiful daughter and went with my mom to 10 pm church service. In town the roads are plowed and passable, but yech. i think it’s about 8 inches of snow so far in our little area, and coming out of church, it had started to drizzle. So the snow is packing down into MrSlurpee.

Holiday wishes,all. Sorry you have to adjust to the adjustments, dental wise, Suzanne.It was tough on my husband at first and now it’s not even an issue.
We had a really nice dinner with the youngbloods coming home with S.O.’s in tow. Very mellow. Our shopping rule was baubles,no big. My daughter came up with a very cool Female sign little metal sculpture for my kitchen window based on a pretty red glass. Red’s a fighting color. This will be the Year of Female Demands,again. It was a good feeling to have a daughter who understands the importance of the attack on our human rights with Stupak et al. Never underestimate the impact of social protest on the next generation. That is the only true civics teachings we can offer them at this point.

I have a friend who’s a very serious computer geek and extremely opinionated, and he and a bunch of his friends tried one out in a campus bookstore. To try it he wrote his name “Randy”, which the Newton echo back as “Rat ugly.” So he friends immediately starting telling people that the Newton could not only recognize handwriting but faces as well.

Wow, that sounds intriguing. I’m rediscovering my love of cooking again. After hitting burnout for a couple years.

(laughing) like any prosthetic, it takes some time for the skin tissue to get used to it. no signs of inflamation and he told me that when it gets sore to take it out (and i do). the gum tissue heals incredibly fast so the irritation is gone by the next day (and moved onto a new spot seems to be the m.o.)

Yes,it is a good feeling to feel pride. Last month, when 2 of our son’s friends went on a vodka induced Special Night and joy rided 4 cars, putting 2 in the ditch and one into a big tree with blood,injuries and gossip, it was less proud.
Thankfully, the woman sheriff who came to our door at 9 am Saturday morning because our son’s name came up was interested in finding out what really happened. He was helping friends move and got a call for help from his fucked up friend at 4 am, drove around seeing cars in ditches, found him unconscious in the road bleeding like a stuck pig .And chose that time to clean up the crash scene while keeping his friend answering questions as some form of onspot medical. I was pissed. Screw the legal ramifications, the idea of the injured going into shock was completely off their radar for 2 hours.
So, it’s good to have those mellow times of pride and joy. Knowing that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, together. *g*

I love those old cigarette commercials. I don’t recall my pediatrician smoking in the office during exams when I was a baby but my mom assured me that he did. Those were the days.

When Jobs canceled Newton, I was floored. It was literally the only good project initiated under Scully-Amelio. But Apple was taking water over the side, prompting Jobs’ return. So OpenDoc (very, very cool early browser technology), HyperCard, and the beloved Newton had to go.

i remember the fred flintstone selling (iirc) winstons. and the dancing camel pack with girl legs.

Carport at home. Street everywhere else, and this time of year, I don’t have to be out late to start freezin’ up of a frosty evening. Gonna go get me super anti-freezin’, de-icin’ washer fluid, though. And also just try to accept that the extra 5 mins waiting for the windshield to clear are actually a good investment…

Yes and no.
Recall the HP touch-screen computer? What was it’s colossal, major flaw (setting aside any internal technological problems, of which I am not aware)? You had to touch the screen to make it work.

Apple would never, ever do that. So when we see a touch-screen integrated into a full-blown desktop, it will have a wired or wireless (or both) pointing surface, probably roughly the dimensions of a mouse-pad. That tech – materials and programming – is evolving so rapidly right now that I think Apple will let the tech-dust settle before deciding on a format.

But then is when we will see handwriting recognition again.

Edit: this is informed, but entirely unofficial and possibly wildly inaccurate, since Apple seeds false rumors all the time.

Which reminds me. Our own ET is writing some kind of an ode to the drones, “Predators and Reapers,” or something like that.

I had a funny experience the other day in our tiny neighborhood market. They were playing music from the mid 60′s, back in the day I made money as a girl ironing. Those songs are burned into my brain. I told the young man cashiering, ” When this music was on the radio every supermarket had ash cans on every other isle end. Displays were on alternate isles.”. He looked at me dumbfounded. Could not comprehend.

I think Apple will soon stop supporting Tiger though and they can’t be upgraded further. I’ve been eying the current generation of iMacs… tempted.

Always a tendency to assume human progress is linear but it isn’t. There was a lot of racial tension and associated fighting as my brother went through school. My class, five years younger never really had that problem. Common sense seemed to indicate that it was a thing of the past but five years after I graduated I’d open the paper and read that it was happening again.

The current backsliding on reproductive issues, etc. is a little disheartening but hopefully the trend can be reversed soon. Things change surprisingly fast sometimes.

733 has 1.25 GB of ram, 1 GHz is an eMac, maxed out at 1 GB of ram. Don’t have iLife. Have tried encoding with Toast 9, which I have read is slow by anyone’s standards… takes days. If I had a faster machine I might consider getting Final Cut Lite.

Sounds like you have it figured out.
FC Express will run in your environment, but without enormous disk space and at least twice the RAM you have, speed will be a problem.

I’m excited about it because a commercial fisherman friend of ours just gave us a chunk of line caught Halibut, a chunk of line caught King Salmon and we live on clamming grounds. I feel kind of rich having such incredible fish for the holidays.
I matched him with home grown Dilly Beans, local grown/home canned Peaches,Pears and Dill Pickles. Yeah, that’s what it’s all about!! I had a good time putting up food in late summer knowing it was for the holidays. A first for me. I also kind of became a Tyra Banks fan, I’d time my canning for her afternoon shows. And I’ve never been into daytime TV, or most TV. Not all shows, some of them are just silly once you’ve hit a certain age.

Victory gardens for the USA, in yards, in court yards, on rooftops. I’ve personally expanded to a mini truck farm and gotten into different heirloom squashes that are hardy enough to preserve. And they grow on vines as awesomely attractive plantings. Lettuce likes to grow underneath them.
