Got up againsy my wishes and drove to SLO for hot yoga. Then I saw the sun on the still bay t-shirt weather. Kids playing hackysack and hangin out with their mates and dogs. Some playing music drinking coffee and enjoying the school break. No breeze a litle ripple of diamonds,,,hummingbird enjoying blossoms while darting and stalling.
The moon overhead and the sun in the southern sky after a cold night. While coffe shop customers and tourist strolled in and out. Mostly very very nice after a long yoga session to relax and breath in the pacific air. Probably sent by CT. How’s your bay?
I read today on a yoga site happiness is a choice Ratfood is an example with all his ailments he is happy. Interesting idea worth entertaining does’nt mean we have to accept the negative. Just keep healthy breathing and do our best. Happy hockey puck and merry christmas.
clear and cold. Enough frost on the windshield to be not only annoying, but outright dangerous. I’m gettin a lump of coal in my stocking for even thinking of pulling out before I was defrosted, let alone driving the few blocks that I actually did before I could safely pull over again. Teh Stoopid, it burns. Me in this case.
Home safe and sound, though. And got to do my upstairs neighbor a mitzvah–his dome light was on when I pulled in, and the engine wasn’t even remotely warm, so I rang him to let him know.
Early to bed tonight after my all-nighter. But once it got to be 4am (wound up watching Xmas Carol…), I figured another hour wouldn’t kill me, so I stayed up for the HC vote.
Hi Funny The Solstice was evident as the moon was abve early afteroon and the sun was in the low southern sky, The tide water was staying put most of the day, Thank for the Solstice wishes, Merry Christmas and happy New Year. wWe just keep getting better.
I like the Air, but in truth, I can cope with much less screen for a lot of things… as long as I bring my glasses. The Air is 13″ and could be smaller.
i started carrying a gallon of that stuff in the car when i lived on the mt and was commuting. it really did help along with the windshield wipers (hint: get in car and shut door before turning on the wipers)
Merry Christmas Suz and pups! Finished the glorious Feast of the Seven Fishes and just got done exchanging gifts and singing Christmas songs. For all that’s wrong in the world, there is still a lot of love circulating.
I think that’s what this site is about when you get right down to it.
I want lots of pixels in the vertical dimension. To me, 800 is very marginal and this one I’m looking at is 768. The reason is that I like to edit stuff using an math typesttting utility called LaTeX, which I then display in pdf. And a page needs about 1000 pixels to fit entirely on the screen.
Right now I use a ThinkPad that’s 1440×1050. When I was using a Macbook, I turned it sideways when I wanted to read my stuff in type-set format.
Was a dutiful daughter and went with my mom to 10 pm church service. In town the roads are plowed and passable, but yech. i think it’s about 8 inches of snow so far in our little area, and coming out of church, it had started to drizzle. So the snow is packing down into MrSlurpee.
Today I posted a diary that I thought cute but got No comments. It’s what Sarah P. could have written to get the “Lie Truth of the Year” award:
The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obamas their insurance company’s “death panel” so his its bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society profitability to the company,” whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.
Hah! My contribution was fried smelts with a little salt and flour. There’s baccala, which is cod and potatoes in a tomato sauce. Pasta with tuna sauce and anchovies. Scallops. Clams and mussels in red sauce over angel hair. Shrimp.
i’ve been wearing them enough to irritate some of those last extractions… now that i’ve got that glue stuff figured out, it is going easier. just gotta build up some callouses on my gums or something
Holiday wishes, all. Sorry you have to adjust to the adjustments, dental wise, Suzanne. It was tough on my husband at first and now it’s not even an issue.
We had a really nice dinner with the youngbloods coming home with S.O.’s in tow. Very mellow. Our shopping rule was baubles,no big. My daughter came up with a very cool Female sign little metal sculpture for my kitchen window based on a pretty red glass. Red’s a fighting color. This will be the Year of Female Demands, again. It was a good feeling to have a daughter who understands the importance of the attack on our human rights with Stupak et al. Never underestimate the impact of social protest on the next generation. That is the only true civics teachings we can offer them at this point.
You need to get the immune system strong and the gum irritation will subside ask the doc may need some anti biotics. Plenty of rest helps too. Where is the gum cop when you need one? G
I have a friend who’s a very serious computer geek and extremely opinionated, and he and a bunch of his friends tried one out in a campus bookstore. To try it he wrote his name “Randy”, which the Newton echo back as “Rat ugly.” So he friends immediately starting telling people that the Newton could not only recognize handwriting but faces as well.
(laughing) like any prosthetic, it takes some time for the skin tissue to get used to it. no signs of inflamation and he told me that when it gets sore to take it out (and i do). the gum tissue heals incredibly fast so the irritation is gone by the next day (and moved onto a new spot seems to be the m.o.)
Yes,it is a good feeling to feel pride. Last month, when 2 of our son’s friends went on a vodka induced Special Night and joy rided 4 cars, putting 2 in the ditch and one into a big tree with blood, injuries and gossip, it was less proud.
Thankfully, the woman sheriff who came to our door at 9 am Saturday morning because our son’s name came up was interested in finding out what really happened. He was helping friends move and got a call for help from his fucked up friend at 4 am, drove around seeing cars in ditches, found him unconscious in the road bleeding like a stuck pig .And chose that time to clean up the crash scene while keeping his friend answering questions as some form of onspot medical. I was pissed. Screw the legal ramifications, the idea of the injured going into shock was completely off their radar for 2 hours.
So, it’s good to have those mellow times of pride and joy. Knowing that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, together. *g*
I love those old cigarette commercials. I don’t recall my pediatrician smoking in the office during exams when I was a baby but my mom assured me that he did. Those were the days.
When Jobs canceled Newton, I was floored. It was literally the only good project initiated under Scully-Amelio. But Apple was taking water over the side, prompting Jobs’ return. So OpenDoc (very, very cool early browser technology), HyperCard, and the beloved Newton had to go.
Carport at home. Street everywhere else, and this time of year, I don’t have to be out late to start freezin’ up of a frosty evening. Gonna go get me super anti-freezin’, de-icin’ washer fluid, though. And also just try to accept that the extra 5 mins waiting for the windshield to clear are actually a good investment…
I saw an interview with Mary Tyler Moore in which she said Kent gave the actors a complimentary carton of cigarettes every week, which she promptly took to a nearby pharmacy and exchanged for her brand.
Yes and no.
Recall the HP touch-screen computer? What was it’s colossal, major flaw (setting aside any internal technological problems, of which I am not aware)? You had to touch the screen to make it work.
Apple would never, ever do that. So when we see a touch-screen integrated into a full-blown desktop, it will have a wired or wireless (or both) pointing surface, probably roughly the dimensions of a mouse-pad. That tech – materials and programming – is evolving so rapidly right now that I think Apple will let the tech-dust settle before deciding on a format.
But then is when we will see handwriting recognition again.
Edit: this is informed, but entirely unofficial and possibly wildly inaccurate, since Apple seeds false rumors all the time.
I had a funny experience the other day in our tiny neighborhood market. They were playing music from the mid 60′s, back in the day I made money as a girl ironing. Those songs are burned into my brain. I told the young man cashiering, ” When this music was on the radio every supermarket had ash cans on every other isle end. Displays were on alternate isles.”. He looked at me dumbfounded. Could not comprehend.
But, as far as Womens Rights go, we’re right back there, baby!!
Unfortunately, I think the CIA wouldn’t hesitate to take out Santa if they thought he presented a 1% risk to their control over the national security superstructure.
Sorry, I don’t really know anything, just seen headlines. Might only be speculation but there’s a lot of it, so I’d be surprised if it doesn’t happen.
I kind of assumed it would be something like a touchscreen keyboard but only guessing. I’m not the targeted demographic in any event. My two antiquated G4s still get the job done. I think Apple will soon stop supporting Tiger though and they can’t be upgraded further. I’ve been eying the current generation of iMacs… tempted.
The trick is to find the right spices. I like the italian spices, otherwise it will taste bland. Most people overuse salt, which is not a good idea with cod.
Always a tendency to assume human progress is linear but it isn’t. There was a lot of racial tension and associated fighting as my brother went through school. My class, five years younger never really had that problem. Common sense seemed to indicate that it was a thing of the past but five years after I graduated I’d open the paper and read that it was happening again.
The current backsliding on reproductive issues, etc. is a little disheartening but hopefully the trend can be reversed soon. Things change surprisingly fast sometimes.
733 has 1.25 GB of ram, 1 GHz is an eMac, maxed out at 1 GB of ram. Don’t have iLife. Have tried encoding with Toast 9, which I have read is slow by anyone’s standards… takes days. If I had a faster machine I might consider getting Final Cut Lite.
Sounds like you have it figured out.
FC Express will run in your environment, but without enormous disk space and at least twice the RAM you have, speed will be a problem.
I’m excited about it because a commercial fisherman friend of ours just gave us a chunk of line caught Halibut, a chunk of line caught King Salmon and we live on clamming grounds. I feel kind of rich having such incredible fish for the holidays.
I matched him with home grown Dilly Beans, local grown/home canned Peaches,Pears and Dill Pickles. Yeah, that’s what it’s all about!! I had a good time putting up food in late summer knowing it was for the holidays. A first for me. I also kind of became a Tyra Banks fan, I’d time my canning for her afternoon shows. And I’ve never been into daytime TV, or most TV. Not all shows, some of them are just silly once you’ve hit a certain age.
Sweet Dreams. Quiche tomorrow for brunch with home grown eggs. It’s really not that hard to do a small garden and raise a few hens. Way better then grass and worrying about fucking dandelions!
Victory gardens for the USA, in yards, in court yards, on rooftops. I’ve personally expanded to a mini truck farm and gotten into different heirloom squashes that are hardy enough to preserve. And they grow on vines as awesomely attractive plantings. Lettuce likes to grow underneath them.
Food Happens.

Hi peeps!
G’night peeps!
[waving night night and happy hollandaise to all!]
Mz Julie has already burned me out on that stuff for the last 3 weeks… it is on all the time…
Evening friends: A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Cool, clear so far, very pleasant in fact.
Sons and dog and I will go visit family at nursing home tomorrow.
you not gonna get hammered by that storm hammering the midwest?
thanks, yeah, in spite of myself.
I keep forgetting that even a thin, frosty film is impossible to see through under streetlights. Frikkin’ duh!
Hope you’re hangin’ in with the new choppers and you get adjusted soon. Can’t wait to see that dazzling new smile!

it’s a pretty nice smile if i do say so myself. patience isn’t one of my virtues *sigh*
My friends are very impressed with Windows 7. And I’m thinking of looking into the Asus eeePC 1201N as sort of a poor-man’s Macbook Air.

Hi Suzanne, Margot, Funnydiva2002, Kelly, Newt, Nahant, bigbrother, sunnynobility, and CT.
hahahaha i’m so stealing that line funny
Right fine.
And I’m enjoying commenting on the threads of outrage about Jane teaming up with Grover to call for an investigation of Rahm.
I carry a gallon of wiper fluid, the expensive kind that will melt ice faster, and slosh it on. Makes it a little easier and faster.
Mele Kalikimaka, wigwam…! ;-)
i’ve gone through several bingo cards myself this week.
I like the Air, but in truth, I can cope with much less screen for a lot of things… as long as I bring my glasses. The Air is 13″ and could be smaller.
Hey, Wigwam. Merry Merriness.
i started carrying a gallon of that stuff in the car when i lived on the mt and was commuting. it really did help along with the windshield wipers (hint: get in car and shut door before turning on the wipers)
Sounds good if that is what you want, Windows 7 will run great on it… I have been running W 7 for a bit and like it very much.
Hi Wigwam and everyone!
i’m running 7 and have had less problems than i did with xp. or earlier win systems.
Ooooh, thanks for the tip. I could even poke little holes in the foil seal so it sprinkles like a watering can!
Fortunately, I don’t have to deal with this terribly often…only leaving friends’ houses on a cold evening. I looooove my carport!

Merry Christmas Suz and pups! Finished the glorious Feast of the Seven Fishes and just got done exchanging gifts and singing Christmas songs. For all that’s wrong in the world, there is still a lot of love circulating.

I appreciate each of you.
merry christmas emerson — sounds you had a great evening. i appreciate you too
i kept it in the trunk (and in winter on the mt on the floorboard behind the front seat)
I appreciate you a little. But I would love to know: Which seven fishes?
Nice to remember him and some of his melodic praise of his savior, Thank you He will be missed died. Bono was very good as well.
Taking dog to the nursing home….. wonderful!
my upgrade on my laptop went real smooth.. been happy with ever since. some small app issues but easy to fix.
Things here are sentimental and mellow.
Beat up on some greedy bankers today, good fun!
The better half is miffed that our eldest’s packages produced only clothes from three packages sent… She wanted the Fudge…! ;-)
i’m gonna have to hunt down some peanut butter fudge. been thinking about some all week.
stopping by to wish all of you a joyous holiday!
Was a dutiful daughter and went with my mom to 10 pm church service. In town the roads are plowed and passable, but yech. i think it’s about 8 inches of snow so far in our little area, and coming out of church, it had started to drizzle. So the snow is packing down into MrSlurpee.

Suz, just when you think it will never be ok, the last adjustment will work.
Takes more diddling than seems reasonable.
But, once it’s done, it stays done :-)

Hey Newt, does the “Newton” in “Newtonuser” refer to the hand-held Apple Newton?
Kudos! Well behaved rottweiler I hope… :-)

Yeah, she likes going there.
It does. Or rather, it did. But I still love that device.
LOL. No, a medium sized tri-color beagle.
Thanks. That’s what I was hoping.
It does have to do with Sir Isaac Newton and an apple…! ;-)

Ratfood, yeah, hope springs eternal. LOL!!!
Merry xmas and fabulous New Year, Funnydiva!
*laughing* bet she didn’t let the kent folks know that……
Very sad. On a related note, I keep hearing rumors of an Apple tablet device. Do you think such rumors are correct?
Love those gams…! :-)
I love those lessons I learned the first time, rare as they were.
Hey Santa — watch out for those CIA dronesssssss — oh oh …
I think it’s pretty certain. Probably out in the Spring if I’m not mistaken.
ya think santa would dare to put coal in the cia’s stockings for buzzing him?
Bear hugs and kisses, Sunny!
I thought of that. The Predators aren’t equipped for air to air combat so I’m confident the reindeer could whup der butts.
Thanks. Do you know any of its specs? Built-in keyboard? Resolution? Etc.

I would really like to see some effective replacement for the keyboard. I don’t know what it would be, but keyboards are too clunky.
Unfortunately, I think the CIA wouldn’t hesitate to take out Santa if they thought he presented a 1% risk to their control over the national security superstructure.
Well, they don’t call them predators for nothing, RF.
tis like watching a twilight zone episode or something — watching our rights moving backwards in some weird time warp or something.

Apple has been screwing with a foldable and/or rollable keyboard forever.
Anybody who can make reindeer fly has to be a threat to national security.
Hey emerson – Merry Christmas – sounds like a feast of the fishes.
*sigh* twould be the only offense they could do that would create enough of a shitstorm that there would finally be some accountability
Wait.
And Tiger is no slouch.
I’d like something that didn’t tie up two hands.
The trick is to find the right spices. I like the italian spices, otherwise it will taste bland. Most people overuse salt, which is not a good idea with cod.
Same.
Here is a somewhat cute technology that I read about a couple of weeks ago: http://news.cnet.com/8301-17939_109-10037202-2.html
It requires only one hand for typing, so the other can hold the device.
Oops! I have to turn in now. Merry Christmas, everyone
Merry Christmas PPDCUS. I’m enjoying your posts alot these days!
cool stuff.
nite wigwam
g’nite wigwam — hoping all your christmas dreams come true
I do too. Lucky Strike Goes to War.
Thanks, I’m in no hurry. As I said, the G4s meet my needs.
I’d like to be able to encode video for DVDs, not practical with a 733 or 1 GHz G4 but it’s not critical, more of a wish list kind of thing.
Be safe everyone, and enjoy your holidays. G’nite.
Merry Christmas wigwam.
merry christmas everyone – time for me to head out.
thank you for all the music, conversations, and community you create by being here.
g’nite
Happy holiday emerson.
Thanks and Merry Christmas to you, Suzanne.
10.4 on a 1ghzG4… iLife what – ’08?
How much RAM? Single or dual 1ghz?
nite emerson
nite suz
I don’t know. If they remade Miracle on 34th Street, no doubt Scalia would end up as the judge, and send Kris Kringle to Guantanamo Bay.
Anyone who thinks people come before commerce and corporations is too subversive for a successful Christmas merchandising season.
take care, emerson – merry christmas
Thanks for the input.
Is that in the Pacific NW, openhope?
Merry Christmas to all friends old and new…
It’s been a long time.
Nate
You bet.
nite, and merry merry you guys. i have to start cooking in a few hours.
Wow, what time is dinner? :-)
Time to head out. Wishing everyone a safe and splendid holiday and may 2010 surprise us all in GOOD ways.
Food Happens.
night all – have a great holiday
Mele Kalikimaka… To one and all…! Sweet dreams of sugar plums, ya’ll…!!! *g*
