First, she gives aid and comfort to Joe Lieberman, chalking up his hijacking of the health care bill to a good faith policy disagreement. And to make that case, she uses the GOP’s frame: the reason Lieberman objects to the watered-down progressive elements proposed in the Senate bill, you see, is because they would “eliminate health insurance companies in America.” Great.
To top it all off, she claims Obama didn’t campaign on public option. Which is more bullshit.
Can’t wait to donate to her primary opponent in 2012, can you?

Is it 2012 yet?
a good faith policy disagreement
WTF?
Luckily, there is never any consequences for lying.
Isn’t being a Senator grand?
I am utterly disgusted with the democrats on this issue. better no bill at alll than one that cspitulates to the right wing and kowtows to the insurance industry
See my prior comment in today’s prior “Landrieu is a Liar” tread

She’s a prick, in my view.
She also just plain looks stupid.
The problem is there are so many people I’d like to primary, and I only have so much (little) money. Nonetheless, she is particularly offensive and dishonest.
What you said.
Improving the health and safety of Americans – and the public health of America – is clearly not Ms. Landrieu’s goal, or Joe Lieberman’s. It is the health and safety of American insurance companies. Why isn’t that pointed out or laughed at as an absurd, sociopathic priority? I wonder how the good folks in what used to be New Orleans feel about that.
And now we have Nelson out there AGAIN running his mouth about the abortion issue. I suspect Reid will cave in on that also so we’ll have an even more crappy bill than we do now, if that’s even possible.
How fortunate the insurance industry has a Senator to force people to walk the plank into their greedy maw. Will someone please ask her the simple question of who she should protect–the health insurance industry or the people she will force to buy their shitty, overpriced product?
From a news desk comment “Can someone tell me whether a conference report can be passed with 51 votes in the Senate and can it be filibustered?”
anyone?
Can anyone elaborate on the 24 times that Lieberman made the Senate vote count total = 60?
The Senator said “dozens and dozens” of times, so can she be more specific? In particular, has the Senate passed more than 24 bills this year? And how many of those came to a total vote count of 60 for their passage?
I think that she is lying on that point.
I’d rather donate to Obama’s primary opponent.
She looks like a smart-alec.
Better than that, several HUNDRED grand.
Desperately making shit up on the spot, assuming nobody will fact-check her.
She really needs to change parties, don’t she?

this is mary landrieu. this has always been mary landrieu. this is exactly the person that louisiana elected. it is not like she held out on people. she is, by any estimable standard, so far over her head in a discussion with howard dean that she can’t see the surface. you all may as well find something else to discuss because she represents that constituency.
Blue Dog mantra for 2010:
No need for her to change, there is really only one party, albeit with two names. The actual platform (as opposed to the phony ones they pitch to voters) is based on robbing the poor to give to the rich.
And the Post Office led to the demise of Pony Express contractors. What a loss.
Is Landriew saying that the Public Option is a “gateway drug”? LOL That kind of argument is always such horses**t. So people who are only interested in maximizing their profit won’t see insurance as being as profitable as before. So Mary’s admitting that the people running the private insurance companies aren’t in it to help anyone but themselves?
Once again, hypercapitalists bump up against the notion that gigantic corporations only want what makes them money, and that trying to get anything done in this country today constantly exposes you to this idiotic minefield where you have to stop what you’re doing if someone, somewhere, makes a suggestion that some corporation might change its behavior in response… and that the solution is therefore to do nothing, rather than to neuter corporations so that they stop holding us hostage.
You have the power.
Demand congress fix the prescription drug benefit
go here http://bit.ly/drug_benefit
Send a message to traitor Joe Lieberman demanding he help enact a strong single payer public option into law.
http://bit.ly/traitorjoe
Send this message wide and far. Thank you.
The conference report can be filibustered, definitely. No amendments though (not too sure about that last one).
Landrieu was just reelected in 2008 with 53%. She’s not going anywhere.
What’s the difference between a Democrat and a Republican?
Lately , I’m having a hard time telling ‘em apart
Need to join in support of SEIU and AFL-CIO big time, now!
What do the people of Louisiana think of their Senator?
They can’t be too happy with her these days
The Nebraska Beef industry and Omaha Steaks donates money to Anti Abortion Ben Nelson. Tell the Nebraska beef industry and Omaha Steaks that you refuse to do business with them and you will get many other people to contact them unless Ben Nelson gets every antiabortion language statement out of the health care bill.
Conservatives appear weak and vulnerable at the cash registers of those companies that give money to them.

Believe it or not, when she served in the La. state legislature, Mary Landrieu was a liberal. In fact, in her first U.S. Senate race in 1996, retired archbishop Hannan made a statement to the press that any Catholic voting for ML would be committing a mortal sin. Her GOP opponent that year was a rabid right-winger not above race baiting. (Side note: this same Hannan created a controversy in 1969 by granting Catholic burial to segragationist Leander Perez, who was excommunicated in 1961 by Archbishop Rummel).
I had hoped that her election would have shown the rest of the country that La. had some progressives. She was a big disappointment. I was planning to sit out the 2002 election as a protest. But during the last week of the campaign, Bush came to campaign for her opponent. Holding my nose, I voted for her, hoping (once again) she would get the message. It wasn’t to be.
In the 2008 campaign, she actually bragged about voting with Bush 87% of the time. In that election, I voted for a “minor” candidate. No way was she getting my vote then, or ever again.
So what’s wrong with the idea of eliminating the health insurance companies anyway? If you had leeches all over your body you’d want them eliminated, wouldn’t you? Same goes for intestinal worms or any other life-threatening parasite. I don’t see how the parasitic insurance corps should get any special consideration.
has AFL-CIO made a statement today ?
The pretense that Mary Landrieu and Lieberman are worried about anyone but their own asses is now crystal clear. This woman blatantly lied on national television. These people have no shame, and show the disdain they hold for their constituents. Question is, are their constituents so dumb as to continue to support these corporate toadies or their republican brethren who feed at the same trough, or are these people finally going to wake the hell up, turn off Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Fox news and finally elect a real progressive or liberal who really does care about their best interest. Will these people finally start voting in their interests or will they continue to vote in the interest of big business.
when you good “landrieu loves bush” interstign results come up.
For example, the freepers say “ALL of Landrieu’s ads–every one of them–gushed how she loves Bush and supports him on every issue imaginable. Her ads also stated repeatedly that she is “pro-adoption, NOT abortion.” She ran as Ronald Reagan. She ran as a Bush Republican. His coattails carried HER, thanks to a clever campaign by her handlers.” (sorry about linking to freepers, but it’s good ammo against the nasty little woman).
or how about when ,a href=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsuRCXiYGO4″>anderson Cooper took her to task fro defending the federal government’s handling of katrina? good stuff! cooper talks about seeing a woman’s dead body get eaten by rats, and landrieu stands there like he’s talking about how great the bargains are at wal-mart. seriously, it’s a must watch how utterly disconnected she is from the disaster. “the president of the united states knos those details, and i’m not angry at anyone.” that’s verbatim. “i want to thank the president, he will be here, tomorrow we think…
so why should it be any different when thousands die from lack of health coverage, it’s not like she gave a shit when thousands died from a hurricane.
here she is, all grateful to the pweznit for letting her constituents drown.
thx. I see David has the full statement up at the News Desk
shit, i hate these soft touch keyboards. that should be: or how about when anderson Cooper took her to task fro defending the federal government’s handling of katrina?
one these days i’m gonna get a keyboard with the buckling spring.
So can anyone argue that the party itself has not taken a hard turn to the right and pressures its national-level officials to follow suit?
There is nothing wrong with destroying health insurance corporations. Many years ago, they inserted themselves between us and our healthcare, for the sole purpose of skimming money from us and from the true healthcare establishment.
Death to them. That’s what I say: Death to them.
And this woman, Landrieu: She looks into the camera and tells us Obama never campaigned for the public option!

My letter to Mary Landrieu. Send you own:
“Dear Senator Mary Landrieu,
“I am one of many out-of-state Democrats who contributed to your campaign when you were the top Democratic target for Republicans and the NRSC, because like many I believed the “expand the map” and “50 state strategy” slogans that unified Democrats all across the country. You accepted that money, and sent me plenty more fundraising requests before you won reelection.
“I and many more like me rallied enthusiastically to the majority we dreamed we could create–despite our differences.
“Now I have buyers remorse because, while Democrats from all quarters of the country were willing to stand with you, you have not been willing to stand with the Party when it comes to reforming healthcare. Worse, you can’t even claim to living up to the ideals of the Democrats and Independents who voted for you.
“Your recent comments that a strong public option would destroy private companies is a bald faced lie that will empower the Republican’s to kill meaningful reform…and empower them to try and kick you from your seat the first chance they get!
“If the 60 seat majority can’t stand up for Democratic values, then I won’t stand up for the majority. Should you continue to paralyze real reform, I hope you see a strong primary challenger in 2014. And god willing, I’ll help make that challenge a well funded one!
“Extremely disappointed, Lukejoe”
Per Senator Sanders office, the conference cmte. report cannot be filibustered AND it can pass with just 51 votes.
Speaking of Sanders…! err… Sanders speaking…! ;-)
I tell’s ya that was a truly historic moment and speech…! 8-)
It doesn’t look as though it was Obama’s, either.
For them to bash Dean while blowing kisses to LIEberscuzz is unconscionable, and speaks volumes about how fucked up Washington is.
There is no logical reason a strong public option isn’t in this final bill.
Except that when push came to shove we (the public) weren’t as important as their corporate masters.
Democrats pretend they care about you before they screw you, Republicans just get to it.
No more putting up the bullshit “at least 30 million more people would be covered” selling point. We would all be covered by a health care system — public at that — if we were imprisoned too, right? And Tweety, go kiss Sen. L’s ass in private. It’s just gross on tv.
It was surreal to watch the senator last night on Hardball. The fake smile, the measured speech, the “I’m bending over backwards to satisfy you” tone, all the skills Bush and his ilk were masters at, are now found in these so called moderate democrats. These are moderate republicans really. Those GOPers who think associating with a party that used to stand with the middleclass will cast them in a populist light as well.
Howard Dean is the real moderate: the ones who want to do more than paying lip-service to reform and yet have fiscal restraint.
Addition by subtraction.
Whether her seat is filled by a Democrat or a Republican after her next election (for it won’t be her), we’ll be better off. Getting her voice out of the caucus can only do good things, especially if we retain the majority.
She is losing popularity for supporting the abomination. You probably won’t even have to donate to primary her. She is imploding.
The crazies are pillorying her for supporting the abomination. The Dems are going to pillory her for supporting the abomination.
She is done. She probably has a cushy job lined up with Billy Tauzin at PhArma or at a health insurance company. Well she should if she has any sense.
