Ol’ Chuck Norris seems to have bitten off a little more than his punchdrunk brain can handle:
Lastly, as we near the eve of another Christmas, I wonder: What would have happened if Mother Mary had been covered by Obamacare? What if that young, poor and uninsured teenage woman had been provided the federal funds (via Obamacare) and facilities (via Planned Parenthood, etc.) to avoid the ridicule, ostracizing, persecution and possible stoning because of her out-of-wedlock pregnancy? Imagine all the great souls who could have been erased from history and the influence of mankind if their parents had been as progressive as Washington’s wise men and women! Will Obamacare morph into Herodcare for the unborn?
Okay, Chuck, I’ll bite. Your argument that Mary would have actively sought out an abortion if she had access to federally funded health care is, as those wacky LEET kids say, invalid. Do you really think Mary, who, according to Luke, was completely stoked when the Holy Spirit told her she was going to be the Mother of God,* and who had the emotional and fiscal support of her fiancé, would have been the slightest bit interested in an abortion after hearing that?
More to the point, the if there had been universal health care (and modern science) available 2,000+ years ago, Mary could have had given birth to the child she WANTED in a clean, comfortable hospital bed, instead of on a dirt floor, surrounded by barnyard animals, all the while facing the distinct possibility of not surviving the birth. Under your Teabagger Health Care plan, poor, uninsured, unwed pregnant teens would be relegated to giving birth in unsanitary conditions . . . assuming, of course, that they weren’t forced to resort to back-alley abortions and death by sepsis. And once all those potential Jesuses enter the real world? Well, that’s not your concern, is it. It’s always been about maintaining the tyranny of the fetus with you guys, never about the child, once it’s born. Too bad babies born to poor, uninsured, unwed mothers don’t come with bootstraps.
Yeah, Chuck, your teabaggers would have been really kind to Mary and her ilk. Jesus would no doubt approve.
*I owe a massive debt of thanks to peterr, who explained the Bible to me in about thirty minutes.
Addendum: I’d go so far to say that Mary would have been a complete failure as a teabagger. She obviously didn’t believe in abstinence, she sang about eating the rich and raising up the poor (and nothing about bootstraps), and she and Joseph shacked up in a freakin’ barn, because socialist hippie that she was, she didn’t bother booking ahead and got closed out of all the Bethlehem inns on Christmas Eve. Hell, even Joseph displayed a fair bit of hippie-esque compassion and got with the program, despite the fact that the kid wasn’t his. Go figure. A liberal-leaning couple choosing to have a child, instead of aborting it. That doesn’t quite fit the teabagger stereotype of liberals, now does it.

Great billboard from New Zealand!
watertiger!
okay, i admit it. i just wanted an excuse to use the billboard and the pun in the title.
Those Kiwis know how to stir up trouble…! 5 hours after it was put up it was severely vandalized…!
Walker, Texas Fraud.
They seemed like such quiet folks…
the ‘filler’ in between had me cracking up aquakitty…
Watch out for those Maoris…! ;-)
Terrific. Now i’m envisioning Chuck Norris performing a haka.
This does remind me of the “Robot Chicken” Xmas episode when all the animals are farting in Mother Mary’s direction as the baby jeebus slides out.
Actually Chucky we support a women’s right to chose Conservatives in Jesus’s time thought that stoning an unmarried woman for having sex was a Family Value.
Thankfully Mary had a Lefty family and future husband. Chances are Chucky the Anti Christ will be born in a red state where it will be to hard for the mom to get an abortion.
Watching Belushi and Radner on the SNL Xmas special now…
chuckles sure revealed a lot about himself with this statement:
is chuck really saying that he wudda ridiculed, ostracized, persecuted, and possibly stoned Mary Mother of Jesus because she was pregnant outta wedlock?
and since when were teens called women? was he trying to avoid the fact that mary was probably below the age of consent when she was impregnated?
Suz did you get a response from Obama yet I haven’t.
Pastors often wonder what happens after they are done leading a bible class. Did the students learn anything? Will it shape their lives? Will they go forth and be voices of peace and justice?
I guess I don’t need to wonder any more.
I was kind of surprised that UpChuck Texas Braindead didn’t bring up Mother Bristol in his HerodCare writeup, actually….
Heh… It is a fearsome sight when they do ‘em… Particularly, when they start waggling their tongues…! Not pretty…! ;-)
Wait, GOD has to get consent? Doesn’t NO mean YES if you’re God?
nope. two business days have passed and zero zippo zilch nada in response.
Back in the day, when you had your first period, you were a woman. Roughly speaking.
[laughing uncontrollably]
i do thank you for your patience!
I like that Chuck makes no sense.
true — i hadn’t considered that.
i still think chuck’s statement shows how he thought she should have been treated for being unwed and pregnant.
Oops… Aloha, Water tiger, Suz, Teddy, AZMatt, etal…! *g*
Chuck relies on the “Chewbacca Defense” to bolster his argument.
I think Chuckie misses the point Mary wanted Jesus. Chuckie seems to assume all women who are unmarried don’t want to have their babies but they must be forced too? I am unsure of his thought process.
Abortion is for when the Mom does not want the child for health, financial whatever reason.
Why would anyone want a kid to be raised by a Mom who did not want and may never want a baby is beyond me.
Some people never men and women never get the parenting thing.
OK, please ask him if he can help me with my VCR.
“Well, that’s how we treated them in my day.”
Categorizing me, are you?
“I am unsure of his thought process.”
Assumes facts not in evidence. ;-)
Oh, you’re probably right about how Chuck thinks unwed teenage mothers ought to be treated. At least that’s the sense I get from his rightwing TheoCon rhetoric.
That might be the problem I have trying to follow his line of thought the line is cut into pieces:)
Sorry. That kind of miracle requires the laying on of hands.
Whenever I hear some pseudo-Christian, like this clown, preach that conservatives are Godlike, I think of this Vonnegut quote:
Chuck’s modern interpretation of Jesus’ sermon on the mount is that the meek, who shall inherit the earth, and the pure of heart, who will see God, don’t need health care now since they’re “covered” when they die, (which won’t be that far off for 30K at least if we don’t reform health care!)
You mean the “Chewing Tobacco Defense”?
He needs to stick to the ‘Eastern Arts’ and leave the rest to others…!
Hey CT! How are you keeping?
Actually, Chuck Norris’ version of the Sermon on the Mount is “the meek shall be armed with NUNCHUKS and CHINESE THROWING STARS and shall smite their oppressors!”
Enjoying ya’ll’s witty repartee on a regular basis…! A godsend…! ;-)
Nor any explainable by any known science.
Off to bed. G’nite, all!
Me too. But, still, does that mean we can’t get an answer to a question?
Aloha, Rev…! *g*
peace, peterr! and thanks again.
Sometimes, a moment of reflection with The Manual Of The Users focuses the mind on the truly important things.
g’nite peterr
Heh… I’m alive…??? ;-) Rhetorical ya’ know…! *g*
In this conversation anti-choice people love to have, the question is always about the great loss to humanity that would occur if women/girls abort pregnancies they don’t want.
I’ve never seen anybody wonder about the great loss to humanity that occurs because women/girls are encumbered in mothering when they wanted to do something else with their lives.
Excellent point… Maybe there’d have been no Jeffery Dahmer, etc…
That subversive Jesus would be in Gitmo getting his swarthy ass beaten, except nobody would hear about it this time.
the cognitive dissonance is too great for even the anti-choicers.
Alive is good! Healthy is good too since the administration doesn’t seem to be too worried about the crap that might get passed.
But he would get free health care.
good point.
Hi WT.
Did you go ahead and order the R. Crumb Book of Genesis awhile back?
I have a signed copy!!!
Very true.
Encumbrance is what it’s all about. Social conservatives don’t care about the unborn, they just want to keep women in their place. The Pill accomplished more to empower women than any invention in human history. There are a lot of people who would like to put that genie back in the bottle.
Chuck Norris (I’d never heard of him before he campaigned for McCain) is an intellectual lightweight.
But like most republicans, he likes making outrageous claims to get attention.
it is all eve’s fault yanno…. if she hadn’t eaten that apple….
Really? An R. Crumb autograph or are you just making me green with envy for the fun of it?
Yep, except it wasn’t an apple, it was the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge. The subtext of Creationism is, “Don’t ask questions, if you’d kept your f*cking mouth shut we’d still be in Paradise.”
It’s interesting that I’m embroiled in an heated argument about what’s left in the Senate bill is worthy of passage…! I say strip the mandate and pass it… They say it’s a must, and we should be thankful…! Their main question is ‘Why’re they still fighting the bill if it’s so detrimental…’
I said… Because they’re still unhappy with their largesse…! 8-(
A real R. Crumb autographed copy. Wound up running into a Barnes & Noble, and they were offering signed versions. No difference in price, either!
Ignorance is bliss?
Dang, that is too kewl!
Don’t know about bliss… but I’m reasonably content.
Seriously, I think Genesis and the Creation yarn are where the “ignorance is bliss” cliche originated.
He must have been there the day before. Missed it by thiiiiiis much.
Btw… This is really must-see teevee…!
Reality TV on steroids…!
It was a truly historic moment on numerous levels…! *g*
Would I lie to ya’ll…??? ;-)
uh???
Gad, I had no idea he ever left France at this point.
Back in the ’80s, a former school chum (who idolized Crumb) did a radio interview to promote the short-lived TV series in which he had a role and got to meet Crumb at the studio. Said he was just as you would expect, carrying a sketch pad and drawing as he walked (IIRC).
*sigh* I thought ya had my back, nahant…! *g*
LOL! i can’t imagine him walking without seeing the “keep on trucking” guy.
This variation on WWJD is pretty sad.
Mr. Norris’ “what if” is anachronistic and wholly out of context of both the story and sociology of the period. Had Mary been, say, a village Jew who believed herself raped by a godlike Roman emperor or a Hellenic Zeus in the form of a bull or swan (commonplace tales) – as opposed to being miraculously impregnated by an incorporeal God – she might well have preferred an abortion. But I know no more than Mr. Norris. I do know that the ifs and twists and turns he builds his lament around become increasingly absurd.
Mr. Norris should admit that he finds a woman’s control over her body and her sexuality to be threatening and repugnant. He should admit that he advocates changing and disobeying the established law of the land and that he would prevent all he could from exercising their rights under that law. At least then he’d be more honest and less manipulative.
Yeah, well done.
But srsly, this is a thin valued post as it is.
I mean, Chuch Norris gets play at FDL?
Nah. Bad form, IMHO.
The snark is weak.
Unlike most of the conservative spokesnuts, I get the impression Norris actually believes the idiocy he spews. Must have broken too many bricks back in the day because he’s way short of a load.
We’ll see as you progress through the thread, Larue…! Aloha…! 8-P
Dood… I enjoyed it. I was in serious need of a respite from the Traitor Joe posts.
Same here, and no reply from my Rep Matsui since I asked why she wasn’t part of the Prog Caucas . . .
They’re all pigs and that’s an insult to swine.
of course, we wouldn’t know we were in paradise, not having eaten of the tree of knowledge . . .
Heh… I know I’m in paradise…! *g*
Does that apply to blowjobs and swollowing?
Good point but we’d be able to ride the unicorns.
I know this song called Them Bones Gonna Rise Again.
My favorite part is where God asks who ate the apple, and Adam says,”Twasn’t me, Lord, musta been Eve.”
There really is nothing new under the sun.
Literally, not figuratively…! ;-)
I imagine that’s all in the mouth of the beholder.
LOL… but but…
Hey! I know I stuck my neck out being critical . . . I stand by my posit it’s a waste of fonts.
R Crumb stuff is kewl . . . *G*
Giving me the entry to not be OT.
Has anyone pinned who it was that got Monica Lewinsky her job as a WH intern? I’ve heard Rahm, but I’ve also heard Lanny Davis. Neither one mght be the case. I don’t know.
Them’s good eatin too . . . . ;-)
it would be irresponsible not to speculate
In the Mad Magazine parody “2001: A Space Idiocy” that song was playing as the bone leaves the man-ape’s hand, flies up and turns into an orbiting missile platform. I still have that around here somewhere. As you can see, my cultural references have become a tad dated…
Edited to include the parody title… doh!
I appreciated your referring to velcro earlier today, cracked me up and I was about to blow a gasket. And I don’t have any spare gaskets.
Watchin is NOT doin . . . .
How would any of us know who believes what? Rachel’s discussion of yesterday’s prayerfest was too much for even right wingers, I would think!
I’d rather have it pinned down.
Good forkin dawg, a set up blow job?
This is up there with the grassy knoll.
And totally believable.
Damn, never thought of this, never seen anyone MENTION it!
Yer good!
i have an r friend down in hollywood that watchs fox regularly and has done so for years. i’ve gotten her to watch rachal yesterday and today…. she does like rachel –says she is smart and polite
That’s right…! We can always read the menu… Right…? ;-)
May all yer velcro fail at the WORST possible moment . . .
;-)
Enuff Already!
I think Chuck believes his crap because he becomes visibly angry. He was part of a TV panel discussion with Arianna in 2008 and got so pissed when she spoke I thought he might become violent. Real whacko, probably has Ted Nugent on his speed dial.
I’m sorry, I love ya like a brother . . . but you need a menu?
so for all these distinguished people – politicians, clerics, infomercial actors – who would sabotage hc reform of they don’t get their abortion ban – how many innocent patients of unrelated conditions do they think it’s justified for them to kill in order to get what they want? What kind of religion would find these killings to be morally justifiable?
Happy to provide a helpful distraction. :-)
Actually, today it wasn’t a reference to you but if the crusty thong fits… “g”
heh…..
Maybe “good,” but – even better – my daughter just told me one of her friends called me “my favorite crazy dad of all my friends’ dads.” What an honor!
None of this is about morals, religon or anything else other than power, control and dominence.
Yer reading the wrong script, Rove wrote that one . . . . it’s a distraction . . .
That’s a great start, Suz…! I started my Hanai Mom watching KO awhile back before Rachel and Ed and she was always a staunch R prior…! Needless to say her fave is now Ed Schultz…! And she’s changed her tune…!
Crusty, velcro . . . yer a crafty man, Ratdude . . . ;-)
You have cache, hoss, milk it amongst the young one’s and use it wisely . . *G*
I don’t think members of either party or their surrogates would know morality if it bit ‘em on the ass… “g”
Heh, I don’t think the ass biting is what any of them want . . . other than fore play . . . ;-)
Saw Bob’s toy earlier today, nice playhouse!
Will he adjust quick, or slow, any indication?
Deranged.
Well, just carrying the box through the room today scared the hell out of him. After it’s assembled I’ll roll it into the room and gradually ease it closer to his domain. He’ll adjust pretty quickly. He already has about 36 square feet of amusement area, this will be a new subdivision.
He ain’t spoiled (much) though.
Why does Chuck Norris hate Mary?
She’s taller than he is.
Time to put the kid to bed. Might drive by later. Splendid evening to all.
hey tsuki — welcome to late nite :)
She is very clever and polite. I really like her style, and if they’d get her on Meet the Press more often two things would happen. The ratings would go up as they do when she’s on, and more people would hear the smart.
Wow, hope he’s kewl soon, seeing a box scarin him and all . . . way to take care of him . . . poor dude . . .
Truth. Obama need only make one speech.
Congratulations, CrazyDad!
g’nite rat (and any other leaving sleepyheads i may have missed)
I always miss the Bob news…
Aloha, RF… and tsuki…! Always a pleasure to see new faces…!
Agreed, and I’d LOVE to see Mz. Hamsher and Mz. Wheeler (and a few others) on more extended segments . . . without others to distract from the dialogue . . I’m not liking this short segment Spy v Spy shit the TV MSM has taken to.
Hardball sucks, and this is NOT hardball in any sense, when the mouthpiece in charge determines who he or she shuts up and when . . . the progs are always losing that game . . . even Dylan Ratigan is talking over the messages at hand, not letting the prog view state its piece.
Good point, thanks for sharing it . .
I’ll leave you all with Junior.
Bob got a a new playhouse today, the box scared him.
Rat’s gonna assemble it and wheel it in by increments.
The Playhouse is like a bird version of a kitty kondo . . . with moving wheels, swinging perches, ladders and layers up and down to play on . . . hope that helps?
This is what I got Bob for xmas. I wanted something I could roll into other parts of the house. He misses me when I’m out of the room. :-)
That is one spoiled bird…!!!
Hi Suzanne, Do you still get products from Healin Hollers?
Love that guy, but oh the stories I’ve heard from men and women about his abuse of his wife, women, and devoted female fans and such . . . .
Like James King, he’s just a leech and user of women . . .
I guess, if they throw themselves at men like they do it’s none of my business.
But when women get involved and part of the band or the life of the band?
And are abused? Physicially, mentally, emotionally? Does it not become ALL our business?
Discuss . . . . .
There ya go . . . thanks Hoss, the picture is kewl.
Well, heck yeah that helps! Thanks. (and now to peek at ratfood’s link…)
Consider the history of Christianity, for example. Consider its modern interpretations. About twenty percent of US Americans think that killing Muslims (on their own turf, no less!) – women and children – is justified in the name of Christ.
Pretty much wide open territory. Take the Tea Baggers… Christians, most of em. Some of em insist that America is a Christian Nation.
What? I got one for my wife! She got one for me!
A playhouse!
Ok, fine, we don’t have swings, ladders and all that shit . . . but we ain’t that VIGOROUS in our needs, either.
*G*
yup — ordered some as xmas gifts for family (and me)
Well of course he does. He’s going to love his portable home.
Sorry to hear that, hope it isn’t actually the case.
Generally, when I enjoy an artist’s work I try not to learn too much about their personal life.
Great! I think it was you mentioning it that made us try to Lemon Hemp Cream, which has now become a staple in our home. Thanks!
Still need to try the soap, which I think you also recommended.
Suzanne, I listened to those Hendrix CDs from the Oakland Coliseum. I’ve probably heard hundreds of Jimi’s concerts and I am not kidding, you saw one of the very best. He seemed relaxed and playful, like he was genuinely having a good time… and mostly IN TUNE. Great performance.
WWJRK: Who Would Jesus Roundhouse Kick?
it was a great forking performance… right after i gave the cd of that show to my at the time beau we broke up. my regret was that it didn’t end before i gave him that cd…
lemon hemp cream is among the stuff i ordered — my girls love it.
Tell me about it . . . it’s real depressing to learn what goes on behind the scenes . . . .
Some are fine, most . . . lots of baggage . . . .
I watched Junior abuse his wife on stage, live, at a fest.
It was obvious. Just a duet.
The two of them.
He was abusive.
James King, I’ve seen in action at fests off the stage in camps.
Fests give ya access to musicians, if ya know where they park RV’s or camp.
Most of them want folks to come by and pick with them.
Some of them, should just stay in their RV’s.
‘evenin’ all-
Not much has changed for some of these people since the First Crusade, when the crusaders exterminated the Muslim population of Jerusalem.
Onward Christian soldiers.
onward indeed…. hey rond
Excellent. To top it off, the owner reads FDL from time to time and saw the company being mentioned here. She tracked me down just to thank me for recommending their products. Very cool.
evening, Suz
hey ppd — how’s the south south bay tonight?
Odd couple of days — haven’t been able to access FDL. I thought maybe Plouffe was messin’ with Jane. Not a smart move in my book.
Well, otherwise
LLN is upstairs…!
some folks had problems after the server update — solution is clear cookies cache and reboot
Been getting lots of victory emails from right wing friends about how the left is eating its young by turning on Obama. Let the hilarity ensue.
I still order from Healin’ Hollers too, mostly the ointments.
Thanks — I finally tweaked the correct buttons and …. here I am
For the first time ever on my MAC, I had to reset cache, cuz I was not able to acces it either.
The ONLY place I had that problem with.
Next time, if there IS one, I’ll just reset my cache.
BTW, REbooting did NOT solve problem . . .
Welcome back . . .
Right on. We have shelf that almost could be used for a photo shoot for the company with all the products on it.
I left a post on the Al Franken tells Lieberman to STFU thread:
Now appearing at your favorite comity club, Al Franken.
Poor McCain & Lieberman — the Sunshine Boys get the Dangerfield treatment.
thanks — I delete Temp. files regularly along with cookies, etc.
Chucky Cheez isn’t making any frankincense.
Yes, not exactly a newsflash there. Now Senator Al today, and almost always is making A LOT of frankensense.
This shows the double standard of the right. If a progressive movie star had implied that the Virgin Mary might have wanted to abort the Baby Jesus, like a young unwed mother might today, you can bet the Republicans would not be laughing.
About abortion today. I wonder how many are paid for in cash by women who have insurance that covers insurance. It is as low as $350, according to the Planned Parenthood website. The young mother does not want her father or husband to notice something on the bill, or to ask her mother if abortion is covered under her insurance plan.
I don’t think the Republican plan to prevent coverage could prevent many abortions in America. Even if they make abortion more expensive, it will still be much cheaper than having a child.
Chuck Norris is, what they say in Yiddish, a klafte.
Joe Sleazeberman is also a klafte mit ayn shmuck.
May their names and memories be erased from the Book of Life.
I’m just glad America is a still a free country and not some kind of Chucktatorship. Sen. Snowe and Sen. Collins are empowering Sen. Nelson.
When their pro-choice supporters contribute to Sen. Snowe or Sen. Collins they are helping Sen. Nelson. I don’t think they can count on pro-life money. In fact, it probably will not be long before the tea party figures out those two have made orphans of themselves.
You would think one of them would try make a deal before Sen. Lieberman does, to protect the rights and freedoms they claim to value. It also might keep the tea baggers at bay if they thought one or both of them had a chance, even a small one, of getting elected as a Democrat.
