About Firedoglake
Good morning from chilly NW Indiana, pups!
Good Morning twolf,
Fine day we’re having here, hope yours is the same.
Listening to the video now, didn’t get a chance to see it last night.
Trying to move past the initial despair of yesterday’s PhRMA win and Emperor Lieberman’s grinning delight at sticking it to the left; even tho he got what he wanted, he’s not sure he supports the bill.
I understand the White House is quite mad at that vile obstructionist Howard Dean.
*sigh*
Change the Insurance Industry can believe in.
Was it over when the germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
Nothing is over until we say it is.
Germans?
Movie reference.
Good Morning twolf,
Did I hear Jane say “crappy”? And, I love how she leaves people shaking their heads.
It’s probably a beautiful day here in the City of the Angels too, but it’s too dark to tell yet.
Forget it, he’s rolling…
Palin Lieberman 2012
Please
I think it is over. i have no more faith left in the President. I cannot believe that he didnt even try to fight for the progressives, the people who voted him in. Morning Joe said that it helps him with indepedents, but what good is that if your base stays home next time???
I think someone other than Jamie should have been on. I question the core value by which he defends Lieberman.
Yes, “crappy” was said — though it’s no “blowjob.”
Mornin’, twolf, pups
Obama wants his insurance giveaway health care bill to pass in the next 9 days. I think we need to work to ensure that this bill gets broken off in Obama’s ass. After that we need to get to work on the real campaign for change in 2010. It’ll soon be New Year’s and we’re burnin’ daylight.
BTW swimmers, if you have not read EW’s latest post, please do. One of her very best ever.
Dick Durbin indicated that progressives would not defect on the health bill even without medicare buy in or PO. Well Dickie boy…the faux progressives in the Senate may not but dude you can bank that progressives will defect in 10 and 12 at the polls where at the end of the day it counts. Damn tired of being Corp Democrat road kill. You folks are destined to be the minority or as I like to call you the GOP legislative bitches for a generation. Enjoy.
Do you think if that revolting little weasel from CT runs as a Republican in 2012 that he will FINALLY be drummed out of the Democratic party? Probably not…
Yep, staying home and pouting is a sure fire way to effect change. I just love quitters.
I’ve determined Joe Lieberman is a mole. It makes the most sense of any to explain his inability to work on behalf of citizens of the United States.
(Would love to put a snark tag but I cannot bring myself too because as I read my own words, the words seemed personally enlightening and logical.)
Jamie Weinstein… wow, a corporate tool? Never seen one of those before. */s
So now the Dorgan Amendment fails. The corporations really have the country by the balls. Like the notion of breaking off the half-assed bill in the Great Pretenders ass.
For sure. And, I think David loves her (politics), so I’m sure it’s okay. It’s also no Go F*ck Yourself on the Floor.
And, thanks for the photo links. Got through part one. Stunning!
No, dear Marion. Why, that would not be Bi-Partisan!
How about traitor?
I wonder how much AIPAC is paying Weinstein to support Short Ride or is he just a blind faith follower of all things Short Ride? I have to watch the clip in segments cuz Verizon doesn’t maintain their equipment.
Mole, traitor all the same to me.
Obama thinks that it is necessary and sufficient to address the key symptom of the problem, the high cost of health care to the consumer, and he wants to do so by throwing another 100 billion per year to the corporations in the medical-industrial complex and tweaking the regulations under which they operate. But the underlying problem is that we have a broken system that our economy can’t sustain.
Health care is a 16%-of-GDP drag on the U.S. economy, which is a 60% bigger bite than health care takes out of other industrialized economies. And that drag on the U.S. economy is growning every year. And we still don’t cover everyone, our health care is shitty.
The inference is that the EU caved.
They won. Edit?
I would have to wonder with you.
Enjoy the hits folks.
Good article by EW. Americans will make the perfect serfs in the coming neo-feudalism, largely ignorant of the world around them, superstitious, distrustful of education and willing to put up with suffering and deprivation as merely the natural order.
they did drop the case, did you read the article?
It should go viral imho.
It’s the lord’s will
I believe you will find that GAtes finally capitulated.
A lot of that money could have gone to funding healthcare. Where are the putative “deficit hawks” on this?
so the EU dropped the legal case against them
Great catch!!! Domo arigato.
Agreed. It makes a nice contrast to Nate Silver’s claim that progressives would be “batshit crazy” to torpedo the Obamacare: http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/12/why-progressives-are-batshit-crazy-to.html
Both EW and Nate are excellent analysts, but Nate focuses on the symptoms, while EW focuses on the deep flaws in the underlying system, which Obamacare makes far worse.
Jane,
If you are reading here, do you have any possible way of getting the scoop as to why MSNBC selected Jamie as the opposing view? Honestly, there should have been someone else they could have gotten who would have been more legitimate.
so, I think I read obama gave himself a b+ for performance
I suppose that’s the “soft bigotry of low expectations” in a nut shell
Anata no kangei!
(Hope I got that close enough!)
and in 1930 Herbert Hoover gave himself a solid B+
Speaking of Microsoft
Obama
careObamahealthinsurancetrough
Fixed.
…because the “care” is now gone and insignificant.
WOW this administration is working out to be not ineffectual, but destructive and anti people.
We are seeing fascism emerge from the shaddows. We have our own puppet government.
Who woulda expected this?
My next question would be does AIPAC have a hand in this game or are they just standing up for Short Ride in return for Short Ride’s undying support for Eretz Israel?
New post up top…
Opposing what?
Regardless of Party the march to fascism is unabated as if there is an historical inevitability. Of course it’s a smiley face fascism but as soon as the people actually begin to resist you can bet that smile will morph into a bootheel.
Yeah, I wasn’t an ObamaPod during the primaries but even I didn’t think it would be this bad.
I hope any liberal Supreme Court justices who are thinking of retiring are paying attention– they may want to retire before 2012 if they don’t want to be replaced by a wingnut.
Ug, this health care thing has me really livid. It’s like they keep trying to come up with the shittiest bill they can possibly come up with. Anything that might actually help in even a small way gets voted down, but they still want to force us to funnel our hard-earned money into evil insurance companies.
And to be honest, I don’t see any way to salvage 2010 for the Democrats. The base is horribly demoralized and, to be frank, the argument that the scary Republicans will take over if we don’t hold our noses and keep supporting the sell-out Dems is hard to buy. I suspect if I hold my nose and support the sell-out Dems, the Republicans will take over anyway. So we’ll have the same tyrannical government, but I’ll also have lost my self-respect.
I think you have a valid question. If it is the former of your concerns, then my comment at 17 would be quite close to the truth. However, with either concern you question, we then have a legislator working on behalf on something and someone other than the People of the United States and the protection of the Constitution.
That’s a problem. A big problem.
What makes you think Obama won’t appoint even more conservative candidates to SCOTUS if any of the “liberal” justices retire before 2012?
second that. i also think marcy’s post is a great one, even for her and that says a lot.
He was the “opposing” view to Jane’s as I watched the clip above. He simply defended Lieberman on no grounds or sound facts I might add.
I think it’s been a big problem for a long time. Short Ride stands out in his support of a right wing controlled Israel but there are others who are less vocal but strongly support Israeli policies and not all of them Jewish.
