About Firedoglake

Oh, Elliott, thanks for the warning about face the Nation. The sound of Lieberman’s voice is enough to make me leave the room, but combined with Miss McConnell’s I’d probably drive knitting needles into my ears just to make it stop. Off to find out what fresh hell is in the NYT.
Thanks, Elliott, for all your work.
Poor Christina Romer and gov. Granholm, look at the slavering bunch they’re pitted against. At least, hopefully, Greenspan will start off with acknowledging that he was abysmally wrong not to use his power at the Fed to head off economic disaster when he was aware that AAA ratings were being used to decorate toxic bundles of worthless subprime loans, and that he therefore was majorly responsible for the meltdown.
Gay mayor in Houston!
I see the corporate media has their usual line-up up whoring bastards. I’ve heard it all before-far too many times. Don’t these fine, upstanding,
god-fearing members of society ever go to fucking church on the Sabbath instead of blowing shit on Sunday morning?
Guess I wil have to find something more contructive to do until football starts. Like pick my nose and scratch my ass.
Chris Matthews review, sorry to take up so much room but here it is;
Reality bites yet to chomp on Pres O; Tweety. And the Greens are getting a lot of flack.
Leads with address on armed conflict vs. Nobel prize. also contradiction of WS recovery without jobs. throws in compromise on real health care.
Rather; has work to do, some have succeeded, and it’s still early. Some ‘win’ needed, under Tweety goading.
Cooper; address problems head on, evolution under realities,
O’Donnell; withdrawal a contradiction (Tweety, within a contradiction)
Sorkin; Disconnect with jobs, not going to feel like improvement soon. Employers can be counted on not to pass on gains, just ask for more from the workers. Building infrastructure works gradually.
Rather agrees with Tweety, perception is has taken care of WS, big problem must be taken on, but how???
Cooper gets pitch for WS guilt, throws back to Sorkin – Biggies not doing their part.
Sorkin; do we cut taxes to spur job creation? Tweety; make right wing happy – Sorkin, but doesn’t do the job
O’Donnell; share…Tweety, socialism…O’; public option opt out
Tweety to Sorkin, moving forward with health care bill at all, Cooper yes, Sorkin No, Rather yes, medicare the example, Wingers fighting so hard because they know it’s the camel’s nose and the tent is gone.
Tweety; Liberals don’t know they’ve won.
O’Donnell; not enuff behind PO
Rather; without it, loses the left. Hard choices for smart man.
Panel agrees greatness still possible for Pres O, lots weighing him down tho.
No one mentions what he inherited.
On to Tiger. Gotta win some majors, go for the kill, tiger never does anything that makes him look ridiculous – a lesson to Pres O.
Good morning, pups. It’s MoDo, Friedman, Kristof and Rich this morning. In “A Game That’s Not So Great” MoDo says that Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates may have wanted to warn the Afghan president about the consequences of corruption, but Hamid Karzai called his bluff. (Nice allusion to Kim in the title there.) The Moustache of Wisdom addresses “The Do-It-Yourself Economy” and says the Great Recession has forced companies to get leaner and more efficient, but without credit these companies can’t grow. Mr. Kristof is having another “Win A Trip” contest. The fourth “win-a-trip” contest gives a student a chance at reporting about global poverty — and the solutions — in Africa. Mr. Rich discusses “Hollywood’s Brilliant Coda to America’s Dark Year,” and says rnlike in Washington, the movie “Up in the Air” attempts to salve national wounds that continue to fester in the real world.
Here they are.
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got blueberry waffles with maple syrup and/or confectioner’s sugar. Another drizzly day, so I guess I’ll stay in and bake more cookies and swear while I try to get the lights on the Christmas tree. Ain’t tradition grand?! Have a great day.
Some of the homophobic ads probably helped her win.
Please tell me you’re joking. Getting caught with your figurative pants down around your ankles doesn’t make you look ridiculous? Puh-leeeze.
thanks, you spared me the time and hair tearing.
I wish that weren’t taken right from moving lips on a tweety. Yeh, he sees that manly smell.
And after that spiel I stopped listening.
Morning all and thanks Elliott.
Sounds like a wasteland ont TVs this AM, What time does foot ball begin?
one of the biggest points the progressives keep missing is how many quality jobs global cooling is going to create
morning dawgs!
Got a kick out of Markey saying in the Dem presser yesterday that he’s delighted Inhofe is going to Copenhagen, a great learning opportunity on both sides, and the world will see what they’re up against in trying to get positive work done. Nice.
In a somewhat similar vein, christianists get their knickers in a twist because an atheist was elected (*and* sworn in !!!) as a member of the Asheville NC city council:

Good Morning….I’ll try to sign off before I get there..Has he been paying attention?
Just sent an email to my Houston friend, asking what she thinks of the new mayor. My friend is involved in Houston D politics so I’ll get a substantive answer.
Good morning all and thanks for your work Elliott.
It’s frigid & icy outside, so no outdoor work excuse for avoiding Sunday talking heads. However, I have another good excuse. Going to go hear the head of the “secular” lobby. See if there is any there there.
Ohhh, Im glad I was still there to hear the comments were all quotes from the irony of a January Magazine…chris was cracking up. ;))
There’s cookies at The Seminal, for anyone who’s hungery.
Morning all *licking syrup off my fingers*
Cookies!!
Hey, you. Are your ears burning? I mentioned you in my diary.
I just posted a list of the cookies I plan to make. No time to post recipes, as I’m off in an hour & must get ready in the time available. I made fruit cake (white batter, not the brown gooey stuff, people like it) and pumpkin spice bread yesterday.
It’s like Christmas morning!
I saw your comment. Whatever you are doing, or wherever you are going, I have only one suggestion. Try not to lose your gloves. *g*
Sung to the tune of 12 days of Christmas:
It’s only twelve days to Christmas,
And what you get from me.
12 gingers snapping,
11 shortbreads shorting,
10 rices krisping,
9 brownies fudging,
8 snickers doodling,
5 golden grahams (for those dieting)
4 chocolate chips
3 french twists
2 caramel turtles
and a huge fudge cake googled by Rat!
At this time of the a.m., I will just pass on something my kids loved to do for special brreakfasts, to wit;
open a cylindrical biscuit package, separate the biscuits and poke holes in them and drop into hot cooking oil,
brown, toss into paper bag containing a goodly amount of sugar n’ cinnamon.
shake up and eat hot.
classic!
Not fair!
Is it okay to wipe away the drool now?
MMMMmmmmmm. Sounds like donuts. It’s still o dark thirty here, but as soon as the sun comes up, I might have to make a run to the local donut shop.
And, virtually calorie free.
It’s all Elliot’s fault. She started it. I am a mere puppet.
And, thank You! Excellent choice. I feel so authentic.
Tastes really lovely, while hot. Not so hot when cool.
She started it.
Funny, I tho’t it was me, and began with getting up ready for breakfast.
My daughter has done exactly that with my granddaughters. They luuves them!
I’ve had a friend of my daughter ask if I will teach her mom to do that. Guess that makes me a bad friend, tho.
Here’s a recipe I just picked up that sounds just amazing; http://klavierzimmer.blogspot.com/2009/12/baking-black-cakes.html
Gotta watch Christina Romer trying to treat Dave Gregory like he’s not a total moran now, and she’s really having to work at it. bbl
Your ears should be burning too.
I missed it but what do you think Gore was thinking when Andrea Mitchell asked him to comment on Palin’s view of climate change?
Here’s something that definitely WON’T be talked about on the Sunday meat puppet shows — or anywhewre else outside of Rachel.
harry reid.
asshole.
I could have gone all day without seeing that creeps face. I wish the media would cover the story, but considering the ties to the moonies, it probably won’t.
d
wha’???
i tried callin’ Harry Reid a name but I can’t get it posted.
Ass.
H
Ooooooo
l
e
Are you alright, dear?
yeah. fine.
you??
I’m fine, I think. Don’t understand your comments. Well, I get #40.
Franken and Rockefeller introducing amendment to force healthcare companies to spend 90% on medical care costs, as it was before the runamok years we’ve now been in. Blanche Lincoln supports also.
Heard Franken interviewed on MPR Midday last week. He is so far head and shoulders above dolts who’ve been in the Senate for years. Minnesota and we parttime Minnesotans and the rest of America are blessed.
What’s that you say? The clownmedia would rather continue the face-offing crossfiring combat that passes for debate on the teevee than talk substance that might actually, you know, help people learn something besides screed and spin?
Meant to give a nod to solai@38 when I used the clownmedia label.
Jon Stewart’s takedown of Gretchen Carlson for dumbing down for the perceived audience and the ability to manipulate it is all too often matched by the dumb-blonding such as Andrea Mitchell asking Gore about Sarah Palin or Tweety being, well, Tweety.
Isn’t Jon the best? He’s about the only thing that makes me lol these days.
Like black man in the White House, this sort of first is little to crow about unless it brings with it real change in governing.
I still think it’s important to have all kinds of people in power positions. Gives the younger generation something to shoot for.
Just getting light out here in the Frozen North Left Coast region and all I’ve been able to torture myself with is Gregory and his guests. Sometimes I think Gregory and his type do nothing but try to point out how every sentence that Obama or anyone they are attacking this week are actually different. The only answer is to retreat to ONE SENTENCE to fit every question and occasion perhaps!
The most sickening individual (even more than Gregory himself) was Mittens Romney – it is scary to think that he even thought (and a certain amount of others thought also) that he could be president of the United States. I’d almost rather have him at my doorstep trying to turn me into a Mormon if he could shut up about how the Democratic Party (Nancy, Harry and Barry) are destroying the United States. Somehow he manages to neglect to mention that almost a half century of Republican rule (including 8 years of repuke lite under Clinton) has brought the country to the current state Obama has his hands full trying to deal with.
I have to hand it to Gov Janet of Michigan for trying to stay optimistic with the hand she has been dealt! Even Mad Man Kramer seemed sane and non-psychopathic compared to Mitt the Sh**!
Thank you, Elliott :-)
“CBS’ Face The Nation: Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT), Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE), Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV).”
That looks like a Fox lineup. Oh, wait, it’s Schieffer’s call, yes? He looking for a big spot at Propaganda Central ala Beck?
It looks a little one-sided: Jay and three GOoPers, even if two of them are mislabelled.
“I still think it’s important to have all kinds of people in power positions. Gives the younger generation something to shoot for.”
:-) Agreed.
These days I’m wondering if it is shoot for or at…
“These days I’m wondering if it is shoot for or at…”
You’ve been reading my mail!
Of course it wouldn’t be Sunday without Joe Liberwhore. Why not make him the host of a Sunday show. Hell why not give him the network and the keys to health care and put his wrinkled puss on the dollar bill?
Hey, maybe ABC’s considering signing him up for This Week.
(Wouldn’t surprise me)
George Will is so full of himself that I wonder if he has EVER taken a crap in his life, or if he just saves it up for gravititas!
I’ve been puzzled by the Repukes and their sudden conversion to deficit hawks as part of the platform of the No Party. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t it the previous administration – Cheney/Bu$hCo – that began selecting which banks and financial institutions would survive or fail and didn’t Bush the Lesser intitiate TARP 1?
But my head cleared this morning as I watched the No Bodies like Cantor, Gillespie and such – The Repukes have no problem with deficits as long as the money goes to Banks, Big Pharma, Insurance Companies, tax breaks for the already rich and of course first in line, the Military/Industrial Complex -only regular people need consider and avoid moral hazard and unless they are members of the above groups there are NO HAND-OUTS. The Elites are above accountability!
I simply cannot believe how retarded the bulk of Americans seem to be when I hear the specious arguments in your ongoing Health Care Debate – What do you guys not get about the fact that you have the most EXPENSIVE health care system in the developed world yet have so many people with NO ACCESS to health care and also enjoy WORSE OUTCOMES than some countries you wouldn’t even consider developed. As one who was raised in the Great Empire to my South but has now lived in a saner country, Canada, the majority of my life – I just don’t get it!
There are problems with health care here, mostly because of right wing influences (Harper, Campbell in BC ) in many cases partially financed from the Repuke legions to the south, trying to degrade our system to make private medicine seem attractive – but your system is completely sick, and I’m starting to doubt that Obama’s reform is going to make much difference.
Of course John McPain has had his GOVERNMENT GOLD PLATED HEALTH PLAN for his entire life – why isn’t that good enough for other Americans?
