And they are honkin on it, and makin it fun . . .

G is the easy key in bluegrass . . . it’s like the piano key of C, using all the white keys only.

And this band is woikin it, solid and fine . . . the BASS Player is rippin and thumpin and slappin it.

Me too. We were in Ashville about 15 years ago. The town was just getting back to life with an artistic community of potters and carvers. The Grove Park Inn is the annual site of an Arts and Crafts Conference every February. MrCE and I want to tour the south to see decorative arts in old houses, but it will have to wait for a few years.

Emptywheel and Bmaz and the reat of legalese of Firedoglake wade through a lot of legal cases. I have been too the last week or so. A morass of opposing decision in the upper court from the lower ones.

I agree. The terrace at the Grove Park is spectacular – huge and fabulous views. Great place for lunch or drinks. Also, the enormous walk in fireplaces are breathtaking. The structure is gorgeous.

Perhaps not the best rooms in Asheville for a non-group stay, imo. Really good B&Bs in the area. A’ville is likely the most liberal city in NC, and proud of it! Perfect place to stop on a Blue Ridge Parkway trip.

HA! My daughter is making an absolutely beautiful gingerbread house. She’s using-and I’d never heard of this before, chocolate and candy covered sunflower seeds. They are the Christmas lights decorating the outside of the house. Perfect.

On our way down the Blue Ridge Pkwy, we stopped in a tiny town, maybe Little Switzerland?, and had a great meal, just like in the real thing! We visited Grove Park Inn for the Friday seafood buffet — OMG it was wonderful.

Hi Sunny… so glad you have the speed needed to listen in nowadays.

Spice it up, buckshot. demi made me get out recipes today, so here’s one for you.

Caramel Popcorn

1 c. popcorn
2c. brown sugar
1 c. butter
1/2 c. corn syrup
1 t. salt

In saucepan, combine sugar, butter syrup, and salt.

Heat to boiling and cook for 5 min, stirring.

Remove from heat and add 1 t. baking soda

Mix the syrup onto the popped popcorn

Spread it on a baking sheet

Bake at 200 degrees for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes

Cool. Chomp.

I’ve been dousing the fruitcake with Famous Grouse, it is smelling oh, so lovely. Baked chocolate bottom coconut squares and made melted Bissingers chocolate bark with cranberries and toasted almonds today, and that is THAT. I’m done.

One Nice Duck. I asked Oliver’s (my local cool butcher) to get me a 7 pounder; it’s on the way .

I shall parge this duck, you know, shove an herb butter under the skin. I shall smush (if that’s a word) our plum jelly on the outside of this duck, and bake it in a medium oven at 350 degrees. It should take about 2 hours.

So what the hell else you want to know?

It is indeed *very* pricey. I’ve not been inside the house since they started up a winery and opened a hotel on the premises.

Historically, the grounds have been open to all. Hope that’s still true. Even with that, it’s hard to imagine how the place could be self-sufficient.

I call Sarah Palin ALMA GANTRY. She realizes what she’s doing and unless she accidently spouts it through a microphone and loudspeaker, like Elmer Gantry did in the movie THE LAST HURRAH, she will continue this scam she plays on America.

People need to ridicule her and use heavy sarcasm and shame her supporters who appear the modern version of the know nothings who accuse others of acting elitist.

If caring about the less fortunate, which she does not, appears an elitist then call me an elitist.

She continues to attempt to shift blame away from corporations and their underpaying and union busting policies and towards the poor and the disabled and the elderly and the taxes that help these less fortunate.

If the rabble that follows her would realize that their cheap labor employers put them in this position and the poor, and the less fortunate do not threaten them she would lose her base.

However she appears a clever deceitful woman who continues the myth that her elitist corporate friends are pissing all over her supporters and she tells them that it’s raining high taxes.

On my mind tonight; My little brother [51] died somewhere between tonight and tomorrow…it’s so plurry in international time zones. He was the immigrant in the family that went BACK to Finland as a young man. Much to his mother’s and aunts’ fear and pride. He had the finest healthcare, with a focus on the seriousness of his conditon and the need to rest, even while in ICU.
We need to rethink what we are willing to compromise on with Healthcare.It is so different experiencing a HEALTHY health care community than reading about it. Fuck. It makes me sob in gratitude for all the quiet time the Finnish Health Care Providers had to actually provide health care.
In terms of Health Care in an Advanced Society…..we’re kind of like the English guys in Shogun. Barbarians, actually. There is no reason the United States of America can’t have the same community driven, socialized healthcare that focuses on neighborhoods and community. It creates jobs if you throw the fucking Insurance Slime out of the Equation.
Maybe we should have a Group Hunch Poll. Tell me what I should think now that there’s inklings the 2009 Health Reform Package coming down the American Pipeline is pure shit, I’m so confused. I think Kill The Bill, again, swung around on this bill because they were planning on throwing Womens Rights under the bus. That’s not a compromise issue. That’s a Fighting Thing. Another non- issue in Finland, Socialist Democracy.
