Little Red Victim Hood and Other Conservative Fairy Tales
Ho hum. Another day, another prominent conservative setting up a conservative media organ to fight the alleged “liberal media”:
Online conservative media mogul Andrew Breitbart announced Thursday that he is launching a new website in January designed to report its own original journalism and take on “the Democratic-media complex.”
The site – to be called Big Journalism – builds on the “Big” brand Breitbart launched in September with Big Hollywood and Big Government. Both sites have made waves with stories exposing past controversial remarks by Obama administration officials and by featuring a series of videos of ACORN officials inappropriately offering advice to two conservative activists dressed up as a pimp and prostitute. He also helps edit the Drudge Report and runs the news aggregator Breitbart.com.
Let’s set aside the fact that Breitbart writer Michael Volpe has admitted in a Big Government piece that ACORN didn’t break any laws. Let’s even set aside Breitbart’s use of the term “Democratic-media complex”, which sounds an awful lot like my longtime term for the US press, the “GOP/Media Complex”. (Of course, Breitbart will say that he got it from Eisenhower, not me — but does he really want to point out that Eisenhower’s original phrase, “military-industrial complex“, is a warning against the very war profiteering and killing for killing’s sake that conservatives like Michael Ledeen adore? Or that Eisenhower, were he alive today, would have been drummed out of the party like Goldwater was for being too liberal? Not smart, bucko.)
No, what’s really hilarious about this is how Breitbart uses the same old cries of victimhood, long after their debunking. Or, as Bartcop said nearly a decade ago, in response to yet another conservative pitching the same “liberal media” whine as a way to make money:
If Goldberg had written the truth, that the media is nothing but right-wing pimps working for Bush,
if would sell about as many copies as Fortunate Son and be withdrawn from book stores right away. But since he’s selling the LIE that left-wingers control the media,
something very different will happen to Mr. Goldberg and his book. He’ll get to go on:

(MSNBC is the same network that gives us three hours a day of conservative Joe Scarborough and which, shortly after its inception, had cancelled its highest-rated program because its host, Phil Donahue, dared to oppose Bush’s invasion of Iraq.)
Whoop dee frickin’ dooooo.

“the same old cries of victimhood”
__________________
Didn’t detect any cries of victimhood. Just a guy starting an enterprise that caters to a perceived need. If he’s right, he does OK, if he’s wrong he fails. Kind of what freedom is all about. What’s the objection?
Good morning, everyone!
GOATS ON FIRE!
What “need”? As Bartcop showed nearly a decade ago, the “need” doesn’t exist.
“Breitbart launching journalism site”
I’m not sure it’s legal to use the words “Breitbart” and “journalism” in the same sentence…
you know, one of the most damaging things reagan did was remove the fairness doctrine
one of the most damaging things clinton did was not re-installing said doctrine
one of the most damaging things progressives have done is act like it doesn’t matter or “if we got it back it wouldn’t be enforceable”
Heh!
Meanwhile, speaking of ACORN: Can you say “bill of attainder“, boys and girls? I knew you could.
Let’s see if the wingnuts try to push this further through legal channels.
Robert Parry over at The Consortium’s been warning progs about this for over a decade. This is all straight from the playbook of William Simon, former Nixon cabinet member and head of the now-defunct Olin Foundation. His goal was to eventually have the Cons take over not just the US media, but also our colleges and grade schools, research centers and think tanks — in other words, all the groups responsible for defining objective reality.
And yet those liberals with dough snoozed while Simon and his Olin money set to work.
Useless Trivia:
The first customization to my new ’03 Civic Hybrid after I purchased it in Nov ’02 was an oval Bartcop.com sticker. It went on the trunk deck and is there till this day.
How come that feels like it was a million fucking years ago? And whatever happened to mediawhoresonline.com?
The GOP is polling below the Dems for months now the GOP needs to change that to win the up coming election however more talk about the Liberal Media controlling the Press is not going to help.
The GOP has never stopped talking about the Liberal Media they need something new to keep inspiring the Hate. Also there is a chance that by election day the 20%ers will be burned out on Hate.
Citadel, a paragon of crap, is in financial trouble. That’s some good news, huh?
Although the neo-cons claim their “long war” is against the “Islamic jihadists”, their real enemy are the lefties and libs and hippies. The Bushie wars are also directed against antiwar and anti-corporate dissidents in this country. Certainly the “free press” has been neutralized using taxpayer money. Mark Penn and Burson Marsteller and Freedom Watch and even Blackwater are all linked together to fight the “leftist menace” in America.
The neo-cons have been using taxpayer funds to sell their oil wars as early as 2002.
A Pentagon “spokesman” Bryan Whitman, was part of neo-con propaganda war machine. He is still catapulting the propaganda and being paid by taxpayers to lie. One would hope the Obama Administration would fire this traitor.
RE: MWO — I wish I knew. I miss them intensely.
Well, then his enterprise will be just one of the many that you’re whining about, just another rant, a bad business decision, another pizza parlor selling the same inferior pie, doomed to failure. Good for you, huh?
I think with unemployment at 10% the economy is the most important thing. The most important question about the economy as far as the election goes is which party do you trust more to fix the economy.
Next question is it Lefty or Blue Dog ideas that America trusts to fix the economy?
Thanks to everyone being worried about the economy now everyone is paying attention to the issues.
That is never good for the GOP.
I wish the Wolf would get Little Red O’Reilly.
I agree this is what they are trying to do. Still they are polling lower than the Dems the GOP must be getting nervous the expected Surge in groups like the Tea Party has not gotten bigger than the immigration rights marches a few years ago.
Remember Immigrants are a minority, the Tea Partiers are from the Majority yet the Tea Baggers can’t get crowds as big as the immigrants right groups could?
I think Blackwater is more prepared for a Coup than a media take over. Cause they already own the media.
and … who’s that conservative lady who said Palin was a joke? Her too.
Couldn’t get on much yesterday. Just wanted to say Harry Reid is a fucking prick.
make sense , man
Kathleen Parker
The government messing with the economy is the problem. The economy is none of the government’s business. But morons like you keep encouraging politicians, who don’t know anything about economics, to keep redistributing income. Works pretty good, don’t it?
You are right, of course. We should let Greenspan, Geithner and cohorts do their magic. They know what to do!
Note to self: Do Not Feed the Trolls.
But it’s so much fun, trying to make their heads explode!
That’s why St Ronny decided to let business run the country – into the ground.
you forgot “the government messing with fires and books and schools and roads is the problem! airplanes! also.”
of course without government, breitbart could assume his proper role of feudal lord. and maybe he’ll redistribute some of his income to nailheadtom and the media toadies. i guess that’s his plan… get back to the days when a man or woman with a boot on their throat stayed that way.
and tom’s hoping that breitbart will give him a pair of boots.
screw breibart and his stable of GOP sorority hookers. hes a punk, raised in the age of “reality” tv. welcome to the next century. the “American era” is over.
If you didn’t detect the cries of victimhood, you weren’t looking. Another exacmple of them crying victim in the sense that have to start up this new news outlet to get the “real news” out there because the librul media won’t report the “real news.”
And as far as objecting, freedom of speech is something to treasure, and I object when folks use that freedom irresponsibly to spread lies and distortions and call yourself a “news” organization. They’re free to do that, and I’m free to object to their irresponsibility.
And as far as the government and the economy goes, the 8 years of the Bush administration lessened government’s involvement in the economy to it’s lowest level in decades by deregulating, cutting taxes, and running up deficits to “starve the beast” of government so that it would be forced to do even less. And what was the result of eight years of the most limited government involvement in the economy in decades? Why, the result was The Great Recession of 2008/9.
But hey, why let facts and reality get in the way of any “morons” fantasy world? Especially when those “morons” can mislead others into believing the same fantasy and get ultra rich off doing so. And it’s especially rewarding for those “morons” when the getting ultra rich comes at the expense of everyday folks who then can’t afford food, shelter, or health care. And we all know we can’t be having the government interfere with THAT either to try and help out. Nope, those “morons” don’t want any government telling them they have some responsibility for others in their society. They’ve got there’s, and fuck everybody else.
I guess it must be a wonder why other can’t see what a wonderful way of doing things that is. /s
RECONCILIATION
So you’re the one that gets to determine “needs”? Do we need thirty-some professional football teams? Do we need 107 kinds of breakfast food? Are 385 cable TV channels needed? And how about 435 representatives, do we really need that many? But in your statist worldview, if it ain’t your thing, then it ain’t for nobody.
That was enough a hundred years ago. Now it isn’t enough, but that’s as many as can fit in the House chamber.
Which you should already know.
But then you live under a bridge.
