“As an American pastor,” Warren said in his statement, “it is not my role to interfere with the politics of other nations, but it is my role to speak out on moral issues.” He told the Ugandan pastors that the bill was “unjust, extreme and un-Christian toward homosexuals.” [...] “Because I didn’t rush to make a public statement,” he said, “some erroneously concluded that I supported this terrible bill, and some even claimed I was a sponsor of the bill. You in Uganda know that this is untrue.”

From Krugman this morning. 300,000 jobs a month. Right. You know the administration doesn’t want to hear this. They wouldn’t create that many jobs in a year, much less a month. Wall Street wouldn’t want that kind of money spent on worker ants, it would cut into the endless bailouts provided for in the financial overhaul bill.

This time the plan is go after Social Security and Medicare. The Wall Street crew knows that members of Congress are not likely to vote to gut these two hugely popular programs under normal circumstances. These programs are essential to the economic well being of tens of millions of retirees, disabled workers, and their families. In fact, these programs are now more important than ever, since the collapse of the housing bubble has destroyed most of the savings of middle-income families.
Under normal circumstances, members of Congress who voted to cut these programs would be looking to an early retirement: hence the hostage-taking route. The plan is to hold up legislation for raising the debt ceiling unless a provision is included for establishing a commission for the purpose of cutting future deficits. This commission in turn would be stacked with people who want to cut Social Security and Medicare. “

man oh man, this guy could have been regarded among the greatest presidents ever to serve had he only been a real student of our economic history, what has gotten us out of these economic issues in the past, that being progressive economics NOT concervative
he’s turning into “worse then bush” through his continued endorsement of george’s depraved model for “economic stimulous”
a “free marketeer” masquerading as “a democrat” with a democratic congressional majority and a democratic senatorial majority is going to be far more dangerous then anyone here can yet imagine
obama is not going to “come around”, he is the wolf disquised in our cloth
funny how this guy actually uses “we lost fewer jobs then last month” as some kind of barometer of his “success”
the more jobs lost the fewer jobs less to lose, I guess this math eludes the man
this economoy could have been turned productive inside of 6 months if he put out those “help wanted signs” we were all expecting, instead he just decided to give those funds to those same criminals who caused the problem in the first place

I got over it LONG ago. It’s YOU who needs to get over the fact that I’m not about to stifle myself when it’s a matter of life and death for me and mine!
I was in Uganda for 10 days last December/January, and it is indeed 66% Christian, with many of those being evangelicals. What doesn’t get reported in the media, because it doesn’t offer offal and viscera, are some of the extraordinary accomplishments of some Christians there. I am a Buddhist, so I have no particular affinity for Christianity, but when I witnessed the work of one organization in particular — Medical Teams International (medicalteams.org)– I was amazed that some Christians apparently believe in putting the actual teachings of their spiritual leader into practice. MTI is having a stunning and powerful positive effect on the lives of hundreds of thousands of Ugandans, Congolese, and others.
